Hello to you listening in Sayville, New York!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The other day I was talking with my longtime friends, colleagues and brainstormers, Tania and Leanne, about times when we set out to achieve X but an unintended, better-than-expected Y happened. You know what I mean: the mystery of unintended consequences that turns out to be amazing! Here's one: The Scottish biologist Alexander Fleming was working on a project on Staphylococcus bacteria at St. Mary's Hospital in London. He took off on vacation leaving behind an uncovered petri dish of bacteria. When he returned he saw a blue-green mold (like what you might find growing on bread exposed to moisture) growing on the dish and that the Staph bacteria were being killed in the area of the mold. Fleming - knowing a good thing when he saw one - identified the mold as the fungus penicillin notatum, and Shazaam! developed penicillin as an antibiotic. Fleming's unintended discovery of penicillin revolutionized the treatment of infections.Click HERE to learn more about the Discovery and Development of Penicillin 1928-1945Now, as to the moldy bread in your kitchen. Yes, penicillin is an antibiotic produced by a fungus called Penicillium notatum. Yes, this fungus is commonly found on moldy bread. Yes, when the fungus grows on bread, it releases penicillin into the surrounding environment.Let me caution you! Not all moldy bread contains penicillin. Moreover, eating moldy bread is a very big “No! No!” as it can contain harmful substances. Having said that think twice before you toss out what might be an unintended answer to a problem. Question: When did you set out to achieve X but an unintended Y turned out to be what you were looking for? What happened next? You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" The podcast, hosted by Dan, marks the relaunch of the show after a break, announcing that future episodes will feature solo content, interviews with business leaders, and segments with "Becky," focusing on business growth, professional development, and leadership. The core belief driving the show is that everyone is a leader with a purpose, even if they don't realize it. The show is also expanding from audio to full video production. The main topic of this episode is addressing a common concern among business owners: employee retention and motivation. Dan argues that businesses should strive for employees who "buy in" to the company's vision, as this leads to above-and-beyond work, citing Walt Disney's ability to cast a big vision as an example. The host then presents a list of seven key strategies for motivating employees and encouraging greater participation:7 Ways to Motivate Your EmployeesRecognize Employee Achievements: Go beyond simple gestures like a pizza party. Praise and encourage good work specifically and personally. Consistently pointing out flaws (as one of Dan's past managers did) leads to discouragement; acknowledging success is vital to making employees feel noticed and valuable.Provide Opportunities for Growth: Business owners, especially small business owners, cannot afford not to invest in their people's growth. Citing the "Law of the Lid" (from John Maxwell), the leader must grow first to be able to elevate those beneath them. Offering growth opportunities shows care, acknowledges talent, and enables the business to grow through its people.Create a Positive Work Environment: A positive environment is achieved through both emotional and physical means. Emotionally, it means being supportive even when times are tough. Physically, it requires a clean, tidy, and well-maintained workspace (no broken equipment or clutter), as a messy environment automatically spikes stress.Promote a Healthy Work-Life Balance: While employers don't have to "babysit," providing adequate time off, vacation, and sick leave is a powerful motivator and shows the business cares for the individual. Burning out employees with excessive hours and minimal time off will destroy morale and lead to high turnover.Provide Autonomy: Avoid micromanaging, which increases mistakes and frustration. Once an employee is properly trained, a leader should let them do their job. Granting autonomy is an acknowledgment of their competence.Foster a Culture of Collaboration: Move away from a top-down structure and involve employees in the process. The key is to teach them to be problem-solvers, not complainers. Leaders should initially present a small problem with a pre-prepared solution, opening it up for discussion and buy-in. By repeating this process, teams learn to offer solutions instead of merely complaining, which builds a collaborative and motivating culture.Be Respectful and Honest: Leaders must be honest about their own mistakes (i.e., admitting when a business decision didn't work). When coaching employees, be honest about facts ("You were late 5 out of the last 10 days") rather than using generalizations ("You're always late"). Treat employees, who are the helpers and the backbone of the business, with respect. The episode concludes by encouraging listeners to use these strategies to lift up their people, who will, in turn, lift up the business.Have a question? In this episode of Motivate to Move, we chat with Savannah Awde, a Fredericton-based adventurer, journalist, and all-around powerhouse. When she's not working as a reporter and editor for CBC, Savannah can be found pushing her limits — on the trails, in the mountains, or halfway up a frozen waterfall. Savannah recently completed 85 km at Loonie Loops, her longest distance yet! John met her there in the middle of the night — she was smiling, chatting, and moving strongly while he tried to keep up (and didn't). In July, she took her energy to the Québec Mega Trail, and when she's not running, she's out rock climbing, scaling cliffs, or ice climbing in the winter. We talk about what drives her, how she balances a demanding career with her passion for adventure, and the funny, unforgettable moments that come with exploring wild places. From late-night ultrarunning conversations to epic photos hanging off icy cliffs — this episode is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

The CopDoc Podcast - Season 9 - Episode 163What happens when a former DEA executive takes the helm of a major city police department with a promise to be the most proactive force in America? We invited Dallas Police Chief Danny Comeaux to walk us through his playbook—why leadership starts with empower, inspire, motivate, how quick wins build trust, and why showing up unannounced at stations can change a culture faster than any memo. From the first 90 days of look, listen, and learn to a clear target of 4,000 sworn officers, his approach blends federal-scale thinking with deep local roots. We talk strategy that bites: a relentless felony-warrants push with the U.S. Marshals, stronger ties with DEA and FBI, and a precision focus on repeat violent offenders. Then we zoom out to the backbone—evidence-based policing—through partnerships with UTSA for the city's crime plan, Prairie View A&M for juvenile pathways, and SMU's VR training to sharpen cultural competency and decision-making. Crime is down five years running, recruitment is surging, and a 10-month academy turns cadets into street-ready officers prepared to act with confidence and restraint.Technology isn't window dressing here. Drones as first responders become a triage engine for low-priority calls, freeing officers to move to real emergencies and cutting response times. Inside the department, accountability is strict yet fair: discipline with context, truth over politics, and promotions tied to peer respect and proven experience. Wellness sits near the top of the operational stack because the job demands it—support that keeps good officers healthy and effective. And across Dallas, collaboration with city services turns quality-of-life complaints into quick fixes, reinforcing that public safety is a team sport. If you're curious about modern policing that blends community engagement, transparency, data, and decisive enforcement, this conversation lays out a blueprint you can put into practice, listen to Chief Danny Comeaux on The CopdDoc Podcast. Hello to you listening in Warsaw, Poland!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I am deeply proud of my Polish heritage and being a lawyer. These times are unprecedented; but especially for judges, the last line of freedom's defense. Attacks on the independence of the judiciary are sweeping our country taking various forms ranging from court capture to direct attacks on judges. The cowards behind the attacks know that the independence of judges - the judicial branch of government - is foundational to democracy.“Judicial independence is fundamental to the rule of law. The rule of law is fundamental to freedom. Freedom is fundamental to the protection of every citizen.” [John Macmenamin - Judge at the Supreme Court of Ireland]Those are not my words. Those are the words of John Macmenamin, a judge at the Supreme Court of Ireland who joined with Polish judges at the “1000 Robes March”, an unprecedented event held in the name of judicial independence.1000 Robes March was the greatest demonstration of judges in contemporary Europe, with more than 30,000 people, including hundreds of judges from 22 European countries marching in solidarity with their Polish colleagues in the fight for judicial independence. The silent march in January 2020 was a reaction to proposed laws that threatened to undermine the judiciary's independence in Poland. "A Thousand Robes" is a short (12 minute) documentary film directed by Kacper Lisowski. The story is about mutual gratitude, focusing on the positive interactions between judges, lawyers, and the public. It highlights citizens who are moved by the judges' defense of their rights and lawyers who have experienced solidarity from ordinary people and European judges. The film serves as a warning against what dismantling the democratic mechanisms of the state leads to.Documenting this touching episode of the dramatic struggle for the rule of law that still lacks a happy ending in Poland, Kacper Lisowski also talks to the European judges participating in the march of a thousand robes. Particularly poignant is the voice of a Turkish judge who knows from experience what happens when such a struggle is lost.Click HERE to watch A Thousand Robes the film on YouTube.CTA: Maybe like me you will be moved to tears at what We the People can accomplish when we heed a call to action. This is what democracy looks like! Take Hope! Take Heart! Take Courage from all the good work being done by our federal judges who are in solidarity with our Democracy, our Constitution, our rule of law without fear or favor! You'll learn: The #1 mistake business owners make when designing incentive plans, and what every compensation plan should start with instead How to structure incentives so your team can earn 6 or multiple 6 figures while the business remains profitable The 4X Method: how to ensure every hire brings in 4x what they cost Timestamps: 01:16–03:10 – Why every compensation plan should be designed one year at a time. 03:11–05:20 – The “simultaneous promotion of interests” principle: good for the team, clients, and company. 05:21–07:00 – The biggest mistake leaders make: constant salary increases instead of incentive pay. 07:01–09:00 – Why one-time bonuses protect your profit and performance. 09:01–10:30 – Start with your profit plan: reverse-engineer roles that bring in 4x what they cost. 10:31–12:15 – How to cap salaries like a sports team to sustain profitability. 12:16–13:45 – Transitioning old incentive models to fit new business offers or pricing structures. 13:46–14:45 – The power of creating multiple income streams for your team tied to performance. 14:46–15:15 – Invitation: Join the October 30th 4X Method training + March Legacy Leaders Immersive. Hello to you listening in these still indivisible United States of America!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I've been following Parker Palmer's work since I bought a copy of his book, Let Your Life Speak - Listening For the Voice of Vocation, in 1999. You might be familiar with this quote which has become a guiding light for me: “Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent.” Over these past months We the People have turned occasional protests into protest projects coupled with growing political power to heal democracy. How else do we need? Palmer's book, Healing the Heart of Democracy; The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit (published in 2011) draws on our human instinct to choose hope, creativity and action for the common good over conflict.Following are five “habits of the heart” that can help us restore democracy's foundations as we nurture them in ourselves and each other: • An understanding that we are all in this together • An appreciation of the value of “otherness” • An ability to hold tension in life-giving ways • A sense of personal voice and agency • A capacity to create communityChange arises out of chaos; but we have to learn the root causes of the chaos in order to shepherd our way to change. If it's true that a nation gets the government it deserves, I believe it is also true that We the People are shaping the government we desire with truth, values and heart work: a democracy of the people, by the people, for the people.Question: What truths and values do you represent that will help heal our democracy? And thank you for listening. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" This actually came across my “news wire” yesterday just about the time where I got off the phone with my buddy Coach Dave Ruekert (@CoachRuekert). It connected with Dave and so many others in my life. The post came from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) and the post was this powerful reminder: “Surround Yourself With People Who - Empower you, Believe in you, Support you, Uplift you, Motivate you and Appreciate you.” I am reminded about so many people that help me in so many ways. The list is long. I take something from each of them and I hope I gave them much more than I took from them. My wish for you? Think about those that are connected to this list. Then, go out of your way to let them know & thank them. Thanks for listening. Open Enrollment Reactivation: How Clinics Turn Past Patients into Six-Figure Months (with Jeremy Dupont) In this episode, Doc Danny Matta sits down with Jeremy Dupont (founder of Patch) to break down the most reliable campaign in cash PT: Open Enrollment. They cover simple and advanced playbooks for reactivating past patients, the offers that convert (and why), how to mobilize your team, and what realistic results look like for a growing clinic. Quick Ask Help us move toward our mission of adding $1B in cash-based services to physical therapy—share this episode with a clinician friend or post it on your Instagram stories and tag Danny. He'll reshare it! Episode Summary Low-hanging fruit: Reactivation beats cold lead gen. Past patients already know, like, and trust you—bring them back with a clear, time-bound offer. Timing that works: Run Open Enrollment mid-September to early November to avoid competing with Black Friday and holiday noise. Proven offers: Classic 12 for 10 pack (two “free” visits or a clear $-savings) and a higher-commitment 24 for 20 pack (often on a 3-pay plan) to grow LTV and stabilize MRR. Clinical cadence: Frame packages for twice-monthly visits (habit & outcomes), not “stretch it for a year.” Families often share bigger packs. FSA nudge: “Use it or lose it.” Encourage spending FSA dollars before year-end; HSA rolls, FSA often doesn't. Manual > fancy: Individual reach-outs (text, call, in-person) outperform gimmicks. Emails nurture; humans convert. Team power: Involve providers in personalized follow-ups. Incentives like a Christmas week off can crush goals. Results you can expect: A clinic with an owner + two staff PTs commonly sells 20–30 packages when they execute well. Lessons & Takeaways Offer clarity wins: Know exactly what you're selling and how you'll message savings and value. Context is king: Choose channels and scope based on capacity. Don't flood a full schedule. Nurture all year: A warm list responds; a cold list ignores asks. Give value before you ask. Plan the calendar: Open Enrollment → Black Friday → Holidays → New Year. Map campaigns, staffing, and hiring to demand. Mindset & Motivation It's an ecosystem: Reactivation is part of your hiring, space, continuity, and cashflow strategy—not a one-off promo. Follow-up is a skill: Segmented, human follow-up turns “maybe later” into revenue now. Give, give, ask: Consistent education builds reciprocity. Then earn the right to sell. What Works (Tactical) Simple path (solo or lean): Pick one clear offer (12 for 10), email your list, text/call past patients, and have providers invite current patients who are nearly out of visits. Advanced path (bigger teams): 5–6 email drip over 2–3 weeks, landing page specific to Open Enrollment (not your contact page), track opens/clicks and manually follow up with “warm” engagers. Personalization buckets: Current patients with 2–3 visits left, past patients who finished care recently, old leads who inquired but didn't buy—each gets tailored copy and a direct ask. Motivate the team: Group goals (e.g., hit X packages = Christmas week off). Time off > small cash bonuses. Avoid time wasters: Fancy video email “personalization” tools didn't move the needle. In-person and 1:1 messages did. Notable Quotes “Reactivation is the lowest hanging fruit—people who already trust you just need a clear reason to come back.” “If the last time you emailed your list was last Open Enrollment, don't expect fireworks.” “Less is more: pick the right window, keep the offer simple, and follow up like a pro.” Pro Tips for Owners Define the offer: Choose 12 for 10 or 24 for 20 (with 3-pay). Set the clinical cadence (2x/month). Own the landing page: Dedicated Open Enrollment page with a single CTA—don't dump traffic on a generic contact form. Mine your analytics: Build manual follow-up lists from people who opened multiple times or clicked the CTA. Right-size promotion: If you're at capacity, keep it tight (email + in-clinic). If you're feeding 6–7 PTs, amplify everywhere. Think families: Position bigger packs for active households who'll share visits across the year. Action Items Pick your Open Enrollment dates (target mid-Sept to early Nov) and one offer. Spin up a simple landing page with FAQs and a clear “Talk to Us” form. Segment lists: current (low visits left), past 3–6 mo, old leads. Draft 3 tailored scripts. Schedule a 5-email drip and build warm-engager follow-up tasks for your team. Set a team goal & reward (e.g., holiday week off) and daily scoreboard. Programs Mentioned PT Biz Part-Time to Full-Time 5-Day Challenge (Free): Get clear on your numbers, choose your path to full-time, and build a one-page plan. Resources & Links PT Biz Website Free 5-Day PT Biz Challenge Patch (Strategy Calls & Implementation) Follow Jeremy on Instagram: @_jeremydupont (marketing deep dives & Open Enrollment tips) About the Host: Doc Danny Matta—physical therapist, entrepreneur, and founder of PT Biz and Athlete's Potential. Hello to you listening in Kokomo, Indiana!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Each year at this time my Camino de Santiago memories come back to life as I retrace my pilgrimage steps through the pages of my journal. Why this annual ritual? It's a witness to my life: how I lived life before Camino and living it after Camino. In truth I want to relive the memories like strolling down a cobblestone village street, entering a small bar for a glass of vino tinto, and savoring it outside with a view of the Meseta, the vast plains I traversed. I recall an elderly gentleman joining me, finding peace in the Meseta's tranquility. After returning my glass the bar owner proudly displayed a yellowed article: the Tempranillo he served me had earned recognition in The Wine Enthusiast. He was so proud of what he had produced in his vineyards.I revisit these experiences because they've become a guide emphasizing the wisdom of looking back when unsure of the way forward. Looking back at where you've been can reveal the future of where you should go.Question: How do you reflect on the past to navigate your future? And, if you could use a guide what's your Project?
