We return to our sit-down with Kevin and Ann Marie Gianni, of burgeoning skincare giant Ann Marie Gianni dot com. In this episode, they discuss exceptional stories of surviving crisis. They explain a management tool that has improved their relationship at work. They talk about Ann Marie backing up a 36-foot diesel pusher (she recommends it for all women). And finally, they explain company culture through brand integrity in a big way. As Slow Burn Marketing, we did branding work for Ann Marie Skin Care, creating the tagline “Honest, wild, beautiful.” Just as the interview is over, Ann Marie unleashes a brand whammy that spun us around. They used that tagline as a launching pad to the moon and beyond.
We’re talking to one of our first favorite couples of entrepreneurism. Kevin and Annmarie Gianni of Annmarie Gianni dot com have been working together for over a decade. They have been personal trainers, raw food gurus, and now run a wildly successful line of organic skincare products. We love these two for all kinds of reasons, not the least of which being that they once traversed the nation, running their business from an RV—which offered some interesting lessons in couple cooperation. They’ve also built some useful boundaries between work and family. They have built their skincare line in a big way—but when Annmarie took time off to have kids, then returned to work, she was surprised to find the business with her name on it had changed. And we’re going to hear about Kevin’s unique mastermind session with his marketing guru buddies. Seems he needed a way to first ask out Miss Annmarie.
Amanda Gates always felt like a weird kid when she was growing up. Her mother was a full-on hippy who made her own clothes, soaps, etc. All Amanda wanted to be when she was growing up was ‘normal.’ However, when she built her first dream home, she was unhappy. Nothing felt right in her house, and that’s how she found herself getting into Feng Shui and slowly becoming a closeted (and then out in the open!) hippy. Find out more about Amanda’s journey on this week’s show! Key Insights & Aha Moments: *How did Amanda become a woo-woo hippy? *What was Amanda doing before she became an interior designer/Feng Shui hippy? *Amanda explains what it was like wearing her mother’s home-made clothes. *Amanda realizes that her husband, David, is an absolute saint for putting up with all her ‘hippy sh*t’! *Amanda was such a closeted hippy for so long that when she was finally free to express herself, it was time to focus on her legacy and how she can serve others to the best of her ability. *As women, we tend to push down our gut reactions. We want to ‘fit in.’ *When you start getting haters, that’s when you know you’re doing something right. You are living your authentic self unapologetically. *What is Feng Shui? *Amanda has been doing this for 20 years; she can see everything from financial issues to affairs just by looking at your floor plans. You bring your energy with you no matter how many times you move. *On Amanda’s podcast and website, she shows you how you can read your own floor plan. While I was on vacation, some fears were coming up inside me that I simply could not ignore. What’s the next step for me and my business? I kind of have an idea, but at the same time, I’m not 100% sure. I believe fear has really been the root cause as to what’s been holding me back to get to the next level. Having fears is extremely normal and it happens at all business levels, so what can you do about it? Key Insights & Aha Moments: *This episode is all about fear. It’s been on my mind a lot lately. *I just got back from my vacation in Costa Rica! *Kevin Breeding wrote a post and it really stuck with me while I was on vacation. *Do you fear you’re going to be a failure? *Do you fear you’re going to be successful? *Are you not fully committed to your practice? *I am struggling with all three of these things. *What’s the next step for me? I don’t really know. *What’s holding me back from getting to the next level? *These fears will not go away. Please, please check it out! *Typically, Lisa tries not to work on Monday mornings or on Fridays. *Next-level leaders understand that it’s about working on themselves that’s going to get them results. *The journey, not the results, is the fun part. *Why did Lisa decide to write a book? *Lisa believes you should always ask for help. She definitely couldn’t write this book on her own and is so glad she found someone knowledgeable to help her. *Lisa already had a local following, so when she launched her online business and course, and literally heard crickets, it was discouraging. *The road to passive income is not passive. These things take time. *Lisa was constantly searching for her worthiness in her business, but she realized that her business would never fulfill that hole for her. *How do you want to feel every single day? *Lisa hated asking for help and she knew she had to challenge herself on this. *Stop hiding, stop trying to be a perfectionist, and put your work out into the world. *Have the courage to strip down your personal story, question your beliefs, and allow new information to rise above you. Challenge yourself. *We are unique and smart individuals, but we are avoiding the things that are making us uncomfortable, and this is why we struggle to grow. *Have any questions for Lisa? Feel free to reach out to her! *And don’t forget: Be kind to yourself. On this week’s show, it’s just yours truly! Hello! Over the years of running a business, there’s something that keeps coming up again and again — there’s a process to all of this. Like baking (something I love to do), you don’t just go in blind and throw in a bunch of ingredients together and hope it works. No way. You follow a recipe and the same should be true with your business. Today, I want to introduce to you and announce my Hustle & Flow Framework™. It’s a recipe for your wellness business. I’ve made a lot of mistakes over the years and there’s no reason why you should go in blind and re-create the same mistakes. This is why I’ve built a framework to help you get those dream clients the smart way! Key Insights & Aha Moments: *I’ve been podcasting for the last 2.5 years! Wow. Time flies! *I try not to re-record something. I believe the first time is the real time. *The cat’s out of the bag. I want to announce the Hustle & Flow Framework™! *After listening to this episode, go to my Facebook page and please, please tell me what your favorite type of cookie is! *I love, love Annmarie Gianni skin care products. *I really enjoy to bake, but I don’t like to cook. Do you have a preference? *I love following the recipes. It’s relaxing and you don’t have to do all the guesswork, which leads to my second point… *When it comes to your business, you gotta follow a recipe! *Don’t reinvent the wheel. *The recipe for success is out there, the only catch is you gotta get out there and do it. *In the Hustle & Flow Framework™, I give you the recipe and help take all that guesswork out! *I learned the hard way through trial and error and there’s no reason why you gotta do the same mistakes too. *You need to hustle to grow your business, there’s no shortcut to that, but you can’t consistently hustle without burning out, which is where flow comes in! *After hundreds and hundreds of client interactions, I know what works and what doesn’t. *Everybody wants to jump directly into the flow and completely skip the hustle part. Doesn’t work that way! *I’m sorry if I sound like a Debbie Downer, but believe me, this is not hard. However, if you’re struggling, you might be following only one section of the recipe and that’s why things aren’t raising for you. *I’m sick of seeing you fail. Don’t overcomplicate it. Just make sure you’re following the full recipe! Mentioned in This Episode: MichelleMcGlade.com Stay tuned for the Hustle & Flow Framework™ Michelle on Facebook Annmarie Gianni products
In this episode of Food, Sex & Life for the Modern Woman Podcast, Abby Jean, in-house esthetician at Annmarie Skin Care, talks to us about adopting a simple, natural, organic skin care routine. One that will prevent and help reverse the visibility of the wrinkles starting to appear on our face. We talk about the major culprit contributing to those wrinkles and how to put an end to that, creating the soft, glowy skin we all long for. HOW TO PREVENT AND REVERSE WRINKLES Yes, we asked the burning question and Abby Jean delivered! Unfortunately, wrinkles are inevitable because skin gets dryer, thinner and less elastic as we age. Through sun damage and lifestyle choices like smoking, drinking, partying, stress, genetics, facial expressions (smiling, lifting brows) and worry. The best way to prevent and reverse the look of wrinkles is to be persistent and consistent with the products we use. It takes at least two weeks to see the results from the products we use, so it’s hard to determine what a product will do for us with a 2 or 3 day sample. Sun protection is a must. Sun damage is the #1 cause of wrinkles and aging. BASIC SKIN CARE REGIME Start simple. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many steps. Use natural, botanic products with no added chemicals. Basic cleanser Exfoliate 2-3 times per week Serum or facial oil / moisturizer SUN PROTECTION– most important step. Reapply sun protection throughout the day if you’re in the sun longer than 1 hour. No need to reapply if you’re working indoors. ADVANCED SKIN CARE REGIME Basic cleanser Exfoliate 2-3 times per week Toning mist Serum or facial oil / moisturizer SUN PROTECTION Masks 1-3 times per week. There are many types available: moisturizing, hydrating, clay, etc. Work with an esthetician even if it’s only once very 3 months. Professional facials Non-invasive, non-surgical treatments like fruit acid and enzyme peels, micro-dermabrasion, etc. Tip: Put your products on your counter in the order in which you will use them, so it’s easy and effortless. Abby Jean talked to us about some of the skin conditions women who are pregnant may encounter and what to do about it, even after child birth. And what about breakouts in women in their late 20s, 30s and even 40s? Hormones are the culprit in this case. It’s best to work with a naturopathic doctor on thyroid and adrenals to learn more about hormone balance and possibly treat with natural herbs and a guided nutritional diet. ANNMARIE GIANNI SKIN CARE A wildcrafted, certified organic skin care line. It’s non-GMO, cruelty free and they’re committed to truth in labeling. If you’re not sure what type of skin care you might need, they have an quick and easy “What’s your skin score?” quiz you can take right on their website. Their cosmetic line includes Earth Minerals Foundation- can be used dry with a brush, or blended with serum, facial oil or sun protection to go on as liquid foundation.
