Two mates met on a rugby pitch, became accountant and client, then bought an office building in the middle of lockdown, when no one else was buying. In this episode, Ollie speaks to Rhys Jones (The Online Accountant) and Olly Ladbrooke (Moose Studios), business partners behind the Bristol Office Hub, about going from corporate life to running multiple businesses side by side. They get honest about the mindset shift from employee to serial entrepreneur, the brutal moment a down-valuation left them scraping to fund a leaking roof, why complementary skills beat codified roles, and how community and referrals (not contrived networking) quietly built everything. Plus, we explore AI in accountancy and marketing, and why "just show up and take action" still wins. Whether you're a solo founder feeling the isolation or weighing up a big risk, this one's for you. LISTENER TAKEAWAYS 1. Resilience isn't a trait; it's a position. Their first building ran "like a dream", which is exactly what gave them the confidence and cushion to survive a brutal down-valuation on the second. 2. Cash buys you calm. Build six to twelve months of runway in the first two years, keep it lean, and you stop pouring energy into chasing bills instead of growing. 3. Action beats overthinking. No scaremongering about AI, these business partners just show up, make the call, and move forward. 90% of success is being there and taking the next step. GUESTS Rhys Jones, accountant and co-founder of The Online Accountant and The Property Accountant. Left corporate life to go solo, took on Olly as client number one, now runs a six-person practice. Olly Ladbrooke, chartered surveyor (ex-BNP Paribas) and founder of Moose Studios, a marketing agency with offices in Bristol and London. Together they own and run the Bristol Office Hub. Something in the migraine research stopped me cold when I was putting this episode together. The percentage of people who get migraines has been flat for 30 years. Same 18% of women, same 6% of men. But the percentage of those people losing significant days to their condition nearly doubled between 2005 and 2016. Same number of people. Twice the suffering. Researchers are baffled by this combination. I'm not. In this episode I walk through exactly why migraine disability is rising while prevalence stays flat, why the conventional neurological framework cannot explain it, and why that same data confirms everything I've been saying about what migraines actually are and what drives them. I also talk about why Migraine Awareness Month, as well meaning as it is, keeps raising awareness for the wrong problem. This one is for anyone who has been told their migraines are just their neurology, their genetics, their wiring. The data tells a different story. In this episode, mindfulness meditation instructor and high-performance coach Aaron Hendon explores the powerful connection between meditation, performance, and sustainable success. Aaron shares his journey from running a successful real estate business while silently battling constant anxiety and "Jaws music" in his chest, to discovering how mindfulness transformed both his personal life and professional results. Through relatable stories and practical analogies, he explains why hustle culture often traps high achievers in a cycle of stress and overworking — and how slowing down can actually increase clarity, confidence, sales, and fulfillment. The conversation also dives into why women are often more open to seeking support, how meditation physically changes the brain, and why flow consistently beats force. Aaron also breaks down the biggest misconceptions about meditation, explaining that it is not about emptying your mind or becoming overly spiritual, but rather building mental fitness and emotional agency. He compares meditation to going to the gym for your brain, helping people become less reactive and more present in everyday life. The discussion highlights the science-backed benefits of mindfulness, Aaron's nine-week meditation cohorts, and the remarkable results his students have experienced — from doubling business performance to improving relationships and emotional regulation. The episode closes with a thoughtful conversation about empowerment, loving-kindness, and what it truly means to live a peaceful, intentional, and meaningful life in a fast-paced world. In 2015, she launched Twenty Two Media Group and started building two media outlets into lifestyle brands focused on food, travel, and culture. What began as a one-person operation has since grown into a media company spanning print, digital, events, and now shortform video. In a recent interview, Faist explained how she landed major advertisers before the first print issue even launched, why she still believes premium print magazines have real value in a digital-first media landscape, and how Twenty Two Media Group is expanding into vertical video and creator partnerships while keeping print at the center of the business.

Everyday Business Problems
How a Client Doubled Throughput With Fewer People

Everyday Business Problems

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2026 27:25

Most leaders feel capacity tight and immediately start writing a job description. Dave Crysler pushes back on that reflex in this solo episode, drawing on a recent client engagement where synchronizing manufacturing flow more than doubled throughput, cut lead times from weeks to four days, and dropped work-in-process to almost nothing. The team got smaller during this period, not larger, because natural attrition was not backfilled. The capacity was already there, hidden behind a system nobody had ever synchronized. Dave breaks down why the hiring reflex is so strong, why most "capacity problems" are actually synchronization problems wearing capacity problems' clothes, and why the constraint does not migrate between departments on a weekly basis the way most leaders think it does. If your bottleneck has been moving for six to twelve months, that pattern itself is the diagnosis. What You'll Discover: • Why the hiring reflex is older than the problem it tries to solve, and how operations training reinforces a local lens that misses system-level constraints • The three kinds of problems every "capacity-constrained" company actually has, and why synchronization is by far the most common • The bottleneck-chasing trap, and the conversation Dave had recently with a leader who had been moving people around for over a year without ever synchronizing flow • The counterintuitive reality that every touchpoint outside the constraint needs to be deliberately less efficient by design • A real client case where throughput at the control point doubled (and then doubled again) while the team got smaller through natural attrition • What the shop floor feels like when chaos becomes calm, and why the operations leader at this client said "I don't even know what to do. It's so quiet." • The three conditions where hiring really is the right call, instead of synchronizing first • Why this is not a job you can self-diagnose from a book, and what to actually do this week before writing another job description If you are about to write a job description because capacity feels tight, this episode is the conversation worth having first. The lens of experience says you have a hiring problem. The lens of experience is almost always wrong about that.

As electricity demand grows and states debate how to pay for new infrastructure, questions around affordability, customer choice, and financial risk are becoming central to the future of the power sector. Consumers across the country are seeing rising electricity bills, while policymakers face increasing pressure to ensure the grid can support data centers, manufacturing growth, and electrification without placing excessive costs on households and businesses. In this episode, Chris Ercoli, President and CEO of the Retail Energy Advancement League (REAL), joins EPSA CEO Todd Snitchler to discuss how competitive retail and wholesale power markets can help address affordability concerns while expanding customer choice and encouraging private investment. Chris explains why REAL believes traditional utility models are struggling to keep pace with rising demand, evolving customer expectations, and the growing need for flexible energy products. He breaks down the differences between vertically integrated utility systems and competitive retail markets, why long-term structural infrastructure costs are driving prices higher, and how retail competition can give customers more control over price certainty and risk. They also discuss why states like Missouri are debating retail choice, how data centers and load growth are reshaping infrastructure investment, and why REAL believes private capital—not ratepayers—should bear the financial risk of building new generation. Topics include: Why electricity affordability has become a growing concern for consumers and policymakers,  The difference between traditional utility models and competitive retailpower markets,  How customer choice can provide flexibility, price certainty, and customized energy products,  Why states are reconsidering retail competition amid rising demand growth,  The role of private capital versus ratepayer-backed utility investment,  How utilities recover infrastructure costs through the rate base,  Why large energy users are seeking direct access to competitive generation,  How states like Missouri are debating energy choice and new generation investment,  The risks associated with CWIP (Construction Work in Process) and long-term infrastructure cost recovery,  And why REAL believes competitive markets can help balance affordability, reliability, and investment needs. Host: Todd Snitchler, President and CEO, EPSA Guest: Chris Ercoli, President and CEO, REALLiked this episode? May 10, 2026 - Sunday PM Sermon   In this sermon-style episode Neal walks listeners through Luke 13:10–17, the account of a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years and was miraculously healed by Jesus. The message examines the biblical story in detail, drawing on cross-references from Hebrews, Matthew, John and other passages to illuminate Jesus' compassion, authority, and the proper human response to God's saving work. Key topics covered include three practical takeaways: (1) the importance of assembling with God's people even while struggling, (2) the truth that Jesus calls, touches and sets the bound free — demonstrated by five actions he takes in the text — and (3) the natural response of immediate glorification and ongoing service after being healed. Neal also highlights scriptural themes such as desperation turning to faith, the immediacy of Christ's healing, and the call to repent and be baptized. The episode unpacks notable scenes and reactions in the passage — the woman's desperation and faith, the synagogue official's indignation, the opponents' humiliation and the crowd's jubilation — and uses contemporary illustrations (including a cautionary anecdote about delay) to urge listeners not to postpone coming to Christ. Practical applications include resisting excuses that keep you from worship and community, seeking help when needed, and responding to grace with gratitude and obedient service. Listeners can expect biblical exposition, pastoral encouragement, and a clear invitation to come to Jesus for freedom from what binds you, plus guidance on next steps like confession, baptism, and joining the church community.   Duration 30:23

He highlights CNBC analysts recommending viewers sell gold stocks as a perfect contrarian buy signal, dismantles Trump's proposed ban on corporations buying homes as socialist policy, defends Jeff Bezos against critics who blame him rather than consumers for disrupting small businesses, endorses Thomas Massie's congressional primary fight, and promotes his new 10-minute FOIA evidence video exposing the IRS conspiracy to destroy Euro Pacific Bank.Chapters:00:00 Cold Open Montage00:55 Show Begins Tech Issues01:27 New Fed Chair Firestorm03:26 CPI Breakdown April05:24 PPI Shock And Stagflation07:59 Trump Inflation And Politics09:43 Bond Yields Debt Trap13:20 Fed QE Dilemma15:39 Ad Break NetSuite AI17:01 Markets Misread Inflation18:38 Real Rates Gold Silver23:12 Metals Boom Copper Oil24:51 Tariffs Beef And Constitution29:09 Ad Break Outskill AI31:42 Stocks Ignore Inflation Bubble32:18 Bubble Mentality Critique33:10 CNBC Chart Pattern Trap34:30 Gold Stocks Contrarian Buy35:38 Mining Stocks vs AI Hype36:15 Trump Housing Ban Backlash37:46 Why Rentals Need Investors39:19 Backing Thomas Massie42:25 Trump Grip on GOP43:08 Trump China Summit Skepticism45:05 Defending Bezos and Amazon46:20 Consumers Drive Competition49:07 Living Wage Reality Check53:35 Rigged Playing Field Factors55:31 Puerto Rico Inventory Tax57:36 FOIA Bank Conspiracy Video59:05 Demanding Government Accountability01:00:35 Wrap Up and Next PlansFollow @peterschiffX: https://twitter.com/peterschiffInstagram: https://instagram.com/peterschiffTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@peterschiffofficialFacebook: https://facebook.com/peterschiffFree Reports & Market Updates: https://www.europac.comBook Store: https://schiffradio.com/booksSign up for Peter's most valuable insights at https://schiffsovereign.comSchiff Gold News: https://www.schiffgold.com/news#PeterSchiffShow #Inflation #GoldInvestingOur Sponsors:* Check out Fast Growing Trees and use my code GOLD for a great deal: https://www.fast-growing-trees.com* Check out Plaud AI and use my code GOLD for a great deal: https://plaud.ai* Check out Quince and use my code quince.com/gold for a great deal: https://www.quince.com* Check out TruDiagnostic and use my code GOLD20 for a great deal: https://www.trudiagnostic.comPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

If expired listings not working is something you're feeling right now, the problem is not your script. It is your strategy.I did 100 deals a year calling expireds. Then the market shifted and that number got cut in half. I threw a temper tantrum, kept grinding the same lead source, and kept going backwards. Then I made a decision to stop calling expired listings and do something almost nobody in this industry was talking about. Four years later I was doing real estate 200 transactions per year with zero expired listings. 55% of my business came from one lead source. This talk covers everything:✅ Why expired listings not working is not a skill problem, it is an environment problem and what that difference actually means for your pipeline right now✅ The three lead sources that are producing at a high level in this market, including why probate real estate leads are the biggest blue ocean opportunity most agents have never seriously pursued✅ A complete probate leads real estate strategy built specifically for the market we are in, including the demographic tailwind that makes probate real estate 2026 one of the most undercrowded and highest-converting niches available✅ The exact real estate listing strategy that works when transaction volume is at a 30-year low and you need to be more intentional than ever about where you stack your time✅ The skills you need to develop right now to get your unfair share of real estate business when there are fewer deals to go around✅ A complete real estate pivot strategy for agents who are done playing defense and ready to build something that survives no matter what the market does nextThis is not motivation. This is a real estate market shift strategy with real numbers behind it. If you are ready to stop competing in red oceans and start winning, this is the blueprint.

There was no way to have a bad weekend when you went home with Fievel Goes West, Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle, and a bottle of Yoo-Hoo. We rented games mainly from NES, SNES, and N64, but I have the fondest memories of the SNES era. I remember renting Final Fantasy 3 for a couple weeks when it first released, knowing full well that I was about to get it for my birthday a couple months afterwards. Well, I got to a point in the game where it seems like it's the end, but it's really just the mid-point, but I remember being so mad thinking I was about to beat the game right before I get it for my birthday. After opening up the second half of the game, I was so happy that there was more to it, that I stupidly rented the game for another week, but still didn't beat it. I then got it for my birthday and tried to trade my copy for the rental store's, but they wouldn't do it, so I spent the entire Christmas break playing through my new copy and beat it in 2 weeks.   Thanks for listening to the RetroLogic Podcast! Are you stuck in the hourly billing trap, racing against the clock while your clients pressure you to go faster, cheaper, and more? In this episode, Jonathan Stark, the "Ditching Hourly" guy, joins Carly and Joe to break down exactly how solopreneurs can escape time-for-money pricing and switch to a value-based model that benefits both you and your clients.Jonathan shares the surprising moment he realized hourly billing was the root cause of nearly every frustration in his business, from scope creep to client tension to capped income. After making the switch, he doubled his income in year one and watched his client relationships transform almost overnight. This isn't abstract theory. Jonathan walks through his exact process for determining what your work is worth to a client, including his "why conversation" framework, a series of strategic questions that uncover urgency, business value, and what a home run looks like before you ever quote a price. He also explains how to structure a three-option proposal, why he defines scope last (not first), and how to handle scope creep without awkward confrontations. You'll also hear Jonathan's take on retainer pricing, why he doesn't send "rates are going up" letters, when hourly billing might still make sense for newer solopreneurs, and why he keeps contracts minimal even though any lawyer would call him crazy for it.In this episode, you'll learn:Why hourly billing creates a self-fulfilling cycle of scope creep and client tensionThe "why conversation" framework: three categories of questions that reveal what your work is actually worthHow to build a three-option value-based proposal that practically sells itselfWhy Jonathan prices first and defines scope last, and how that changes everythingHow to handle scope creep requests without damaging the client relationshipThe difference between project-based value pricing and retainer-based advisory pricingWhen hourly billing might still be appropriate (and when it's a trap)Why getting paid upfront changes the entire dynamic of client workHow to raise your prices over time without losing existing clientsResources mentioned:Jonathan Stark's free email course: valuepricingbootcamp.comJonathan's website: jonathanstark.comDitching Hourly podcastIf you found this episode helpful, share it with a solopreneur friend who's struggling with pricing. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:03:36] Philippines Declares National Emergency — Fuel Supplies Measured in Days, Not Months The Philippines has declared a national state of emergency due to war-related supply chain disruptions. Jet fuel reserves are down to 38 days, LPG to 23 days, with the IEA confirming the current disruption already exceeds the combined supply losses of both 1970s oil shocks. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:09:25] US Only Has Two Months of Rare Earths Left — Trump Cut the Supply Chain Before Securing a Domestic Source China's rare earth embargo following Trump's tariff war has left the US with approximately two months of the materials needed to manufacture precision guided weapons — the same weapons being consumed at record rates in the Iran campaign — with no domestic replacement source established. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:14:24] The Real Strategic Goal: US Control of All Major Oil Export Resources Outside Russia Analysis presented argues that the war's actual objective is to use Iran's destruction of Gulf State infrastructure as a pretext for the US to seize control of Middle Eastern oil resources — giving Washington the power to turn energy on or off for any country that resists its economic agenda. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:18:13] Bank of America Warns European Gas Could Jump 17-Fold — Mortgage-Sized Monthly Energy Bills Ahead Bank of America has warned that European natural gas prices could surge from 29 euros to as high as 500 euros this winter — a 17-fold increase — which would produce monthly energy bills potentially exceeding mortgage payments and trigger a full economic emergency across Europe and large parts of Asia. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:22:05] NASDAQ and NYSE Moving to Tokenize the Entire $126 Trillion Equity Market on Blockchain Wall Street's two largest exchanges are partnering with crypto platforms to tokenize the entire US equity market, with analysts warning this adds another layer of abstraction between investors and actual ownership — and that in a crisis, token holders would be last in line behind brokers and the Depository Trust Company. ──────────────────────────────────────── [00:37:38] US Treasury Officially Declared the United States Insolvent — Media Missed It A Forbes headline reports that the US Treasury's own numbers amount to an official declaration of insolvency, with real debt estimated at $143 trillion rather than the reported $38–39 trillion when unfunded liabilities like Social Security are included. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:01:49] Trump Reversed on FISA 702 — Now Pushing Warrantless Surveillance He Campaigned Against Trump, who called for abolishing FISA Section 702 warrantless surveillance during his 2024 campaign, is now pushing to extend it — described as part of a broader pattern of paving the way for a police state, AI-driven technocracy, and permanent emergency powers under war conditions. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:20:00] Trump's FDA Chief Seamlessly Moved to Pfizer Board While Simultaneously on DoD Biodefense Contractor Board Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who approved COVID interventions under Trump, transitioned directly to Pfizer's board while simultaneously sitting on the board of a DoD-subsidized biomanufacturing firm — cited as the structural model now being replicated with glyphosate immunity and AI deregulation. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:23:04] Joe Kent's Resignation Torches the Bridge — FBI Investigation, Graham Calls Him a Traitor Joe Kent resigned from the National Counterterrorism Center directorship amid a firestorm, with Lindsey Graham and Laura Loomer immediately branding him an anti-Semite and traitor. The segment frames this as a loyalty litmus test revealing who in Washington serves Israeli interests over American ones. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:32:17] United Airlines CEO: Jet Fuel Has More Than Doubled — $11B Extra Annual Cost on Best Year of $5B Profit United Airlines CEO reports jet fuel costs have more than doubled in three weeks, projecting an additional $11 billion in annual fuel costs against a record best-year profit of under $5 billion — making current ticket prices structurally unsustainable and signaling imminent airline sector collapse. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:46:50] Scott Ritter: US Military Bases Across Seven Countries Are Being Evacuated — This Is a Military Collapse Former military intelligence officer Scott Ritter details the systematic evacuation of 13 US military bases across Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria, with Iran having destroyed the billion-dollar radar array that was the heart of the anti-missile defense system — calling Pentagon language about "strategic redeployment" an institutional deception. ──────────────────────────────────────── [01:41:09] No Authorization, No Goals, No Plan — $200B Iran War Supplemental Sought With Zero Congressional Oversight The Iran war has entered its fourth week with no congressional authorization, no declared war, no stated strategic objectives, and no clarity from the Pentagon — while the White House is now requesting $200 billion in supplemental war funding that Republicans in both chambers have already voted not to weigh in on. ──────────────────────────────────────── Money should have intrinsic value AND transactional privacy: Go to https://davidknight.gold/ for great deals on physical gold/silver For 10% off Gerald Celente's prescient Trends Journal, go to https://trendsjournal.com/ and enter the code KNIGHT Find out more about the show and where you can watch it at TheDavidKnightShow.com If you would like to support the show and our family please consider subscribing monthly here: SubscribeStar https://www.subscribestar.com/the-david-knight-showOr you can send a donation throughMail: David Knight POB 994 Kodak, TN 37764Zelle: @DavidKnightShow@protonmail.comCash App at: $davidknightshowBTC to: bc1qkuec29hkuye4xse9unh7nptvu3y9qmv24vanh7Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-david-knight-show--2653468/support.
