Today I'm speaking with the sculptor, ceramicist, artist Paul Smith. I first came across his work many years ago and have always been struck by the powerful quality of compassion that, for me, sits within the pieces he creates.Since then I've (joyfully) brought two of his pieces into my home - you'll hear more about what they represent to me... and how Paul keeps his own interpretation of his work open, so each person finds their own story within them. It was a joy to speak with Paul and I'm delighted he accepted my invitation to join us here.In our conversation, we explore the profound interplay between compassion, creativity, and masculinity. We touch on how true human connections, such as heartfelt hugs, are mirrored in creative works and the concept of gestalt, where intertwined figures symbolise both unity and individuality. And Paul shares his insights on the importance of compassion in our relationship with the natural world and the critical need to protect keystone species. His reflections highlight how creativity can foster a closer connection with our environment - as well as with our own emotional landscape. Toward the end of the episode, we come to understand this conversation is really about balance: balance in the beautiful work Paul shares, the importance of balance in nature and how we create balance across the different aspects in our inner and outer lives.I loved speaking with Paul. I hope you enjoy listening.MEET PAUL & see more of his work:INSTAGRAM: @paulsmithsculptureswww.paulsmithsculptures.co.ukREFERENCES:Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, by American psychoanalyst Clarissa Pinkola Estés (My enormous apologies for getting her name wrong in the episode!)Sign-up for everyday ♡ compassion - (almost) daily messages of love https://hennyflynn.ck.page/everyday-compassion Explore Henny's coaching, books, retreats, courses & events https://www.hennyflynn.co.uk/
The wild has been banished, pushed to the edges of civilization, pushed to the edges of psyche. Wolves and coyotes, bears and bobcats, rage and sexuality and messiness and imperfection have all been relegated to the outskirts. We long for wildness. We long for freedom and aliveness, creativity and authenticity. And yet, we might also fear wildness—the way it can control us. The way we can burn others and be burned by it. How do we get in touch with our wild parts, and integrate them with the rest of us? How do we find healthy containers in which to explore our creativity, our dreams, our true voice, our boundaries? This is what we are exploring in today's episode. In this episode, I delve into the topic of connecting with our inner wildness, specifically through the archetypal figure of the wild woman and the symbolism of wolves. Drawing from my personal experiences and insights gained from the book "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, I discuss the importance of reclaiming our wildness to heal from trauma and reconnect with our true selves. I also cover the work of the nonprofit organization Wolf Connection, which rescues and cares for wolf dogs and offers programs for underserved communities to connect with the wisdom of wolves. As always, be mindful of cultural appropriation and spiritual bypassing in our attempts to connect with animal symbolism and archetypes. Join me as I share my own journey of reconnecting with my inner wildness and explore ways to embrace your own wildness. → Watch the Full Video Podcast Here! · The Wolf Connection · "Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype" by Clarissa Pinkola Estés · Follow Simon Moya-Smith Topics/Triggers: • Wolf Connection • Our Inner Wildness • Lack of Freedom in a Patriarchal Capitalistic Society • Reclaiming Power • Listening to the Call of the Wild • The Wolf Connection & Retreat • How You Can Connect to Your Inner Wolf • Cultural Appropriation & Animal Spiritualism • Life, Death, and Experiences • Mindful Approaches to Animal Archetypes • Survivors & the Wisdom of the Wolf ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ If you took anything away from today's podcast, please share it with someone who may need to hear it. I wanted to share some thoughts that I had today on the so-called terrible twos and how it connects more broadly to issues that we see in our culture. A few weeks ago, I went to a coffee shop and someone asked me how old my son was. When I told him he was two, he replied, "oh, the terrible twos." But are they really so terrible? If culture is the culture of families, how does intergenerational dysfunction show up at the society level? Does this explain why the world is made up of adult children? Let me know what you think!mentions: The Unconstrained Vision: https://petermcculloughmd.substack.com/p/the-unconstrained-vision?publication_id=1119676&isFreemail=trueWomen who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman ArchetypeBook by Clarissa Pinkola EstésBarry Brownstein Substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/mindsetshifts?r=8somb&utm_medium=iosCarl Jung: The Undiscovered SelfCreators: Kate Wand & William GervaisFB: https://www.facebook.com/VeryOpinionatedShow Odysee: https://odysee.com/@VeryOpinionatedShow:5Twitter: @katewand | @wg_gervais Kate's Musings: katewand.substack.comVERY-OPINIONATED.COM

Sit back and relax into this guided Loving-Kindness meditation led by Julie Potiker. She completes the meditation with a quote from Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Ph.D., poet and author of many books, including, Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype.“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. When being right is more important to you than being in relationship, difference and questioning become something to fear. And fear shuts down connection and curiosity.Unattended grief and rage are fertile ground for fear to have a party with our capacity to stay curious and welcome the discomfort of doubt and questions. And trust cannot exist without the ability to share and question the norms and beliefs of a community. When we lead or are led this way, questions become a threat to belonging and status quo. And when you are in the public eye, there seems to be even less room for doubt and more momentum for digging heels into being right, at the sacrifice of relationships and dignity.Today's Unburdened Leader guest and her husband lost friends, community, and much of their livelihood when they started to question some of the foundational tenets of their beliefs, which were deeply intertwined into their community.Instead of their doubt and curiosity being welcomed and honored, their questioning came at a great cost that reflected that many in their community were more invested in being right over their relationships.Lisa Gungor has been scribbling down songs since she was seven years old. In this episode, Nicole and Rootz discuss The Lovers and how this archetype plays out in our journey here on earth. They also get vulnerable and share the shadow work they did or are still doing in their journey to a healthy, loving relationship. Akin to the conversation we had, Juliana is nothing short of a bright, invigorating spark of a human being that I am beyond grateful I got to cross paths with and now call a friend, ally and cheerleader on this journey of being female and migrants to the country we live in. Originally from Brazil, Juliana has spent the past 5 years living in 2 vastly different countries, relocating as a result of her husband's career. In addition to navigating huge transitions moving across countries, she also navigated through marriage and having a baby in the midst of it. Having walked through the path of feeling lost and alone herself, she has now acquired the mindset and skills to live out her purpose and create her own success story in her new country and she is ready and passionate to help you find and create yours. Here are the takeaways:It's not the environment that create the life that you want; it's what you decide you want and then use the environment around me as tools to create this life Americans are like a peach; sweet on the outside, hard in the inside whereas Europeans are like coconut, hard on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside Often times, it's less about you; don't lay the entire weight of adapting to a new country, culture or society on yourself; be patient It's normal to feel overwhelmed when undergoing major changes in your life Consider talking and getting support from a therapist or mentors to walk with you through this process Connect with communities that are available; local, international, those from the similar countries/culture/language Be open to connect with others; start small In current times where the pandemic is still a real thing, consider checking out Facebook groups to connect with like-minded individuals For women living abroad, this idea of ‘distancing' is not foreign; we already have the skills to maintain connection with people who are physically afar You are resourceful; often times, you already know the answers Be present; each moment is an opportunity to learn a new lesson There is power in the now Don't be afraid to create the connections you want We attach our value to the things we are or the work we do but the real work is about finding your purpose and reconnecting to your values Be willing to let go in order to create the person you really are Juliana's current mantra: “Be the kindest person to yourself.” In this episode: Connect with Juliana and stay in touch with her life abroad in France, her upcoming website and group coaching program through her Instagram @coachingwomenabroadConnect with Juliana through her Linkedin Juliana's currently reading: Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype - Clarissa Pinkola Estes Connect with me: Instagram: resilient.and.rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring meaningful & intentional connection and community with others like you? Episode 017 is your intro to the Divine Feminine. This episode is about learning how to tap into the part of us that is playful, sensual, creative, soulful, deeply connected, fierce, and energized. As we've discussed on the show, both men and women have masculine and feminine energies in us. In this episode, we talk about what happened to the divine feminine; where did it go? Why is it so uncomfortable to talk about? How do we get it back? On this episode of Woo Me, we interview Kiana Love, Wild Women Healer. Kiana, founder of Be Wild Women, helps overwhelmed women, survivors of childhood complex trauma to feel free in their bodies and wild about living. In the episode Kiana talks about how she found Wild Women, through her own healing journey and connecting back to her female energy. We talk about how easy it is for women to feel disconnected to their bodies, have self doubt, feel safe in their body, or have a hard time feeling heard. Kiana encourages women to trust in themselves, connect back to nature. As Kiana states, “We are not separate from nature, we are nature.”These are all ways of connecting to Wild Women Energy. Kiana also leads listeners through a short guided meditation to bring us back into the body.
