Sarah Wirth has had a strange path because she is a lawyer by training but does not practice. But her life's passion became studying leaders. She has been studying what makes a great leader. What they do with their teams to make them more effective, the best practices they employ to help their team members excel and succeed in their work. And she is sharing some of that knowledge with us here today. Getting promoted for being a good individual performer does not translate into being a good leader. Plus, you need to learn new skill sets to be an effective leader. Dealing with the uncertainty in the world right now with the global Coronavirus pandemic that is affecting all industries worldwide, there are ways in which leaders can tap into empathy. Specifically for women, to lead teams both at home and in the work force. At Ecsell Institute they refer to leadership in terms of coaching, because a coach is not just going to make sure you're going to get your work down. A coach is there to manage people as a person and not just as an employee to motivate Sarah breaks down coaching into 3 key principals : 1- Building good relationships 2- Establishing order, so they know what they're supposed to be accomplishing. 3- Putting people in complexity so they feel challenged to grown and achieve a higher level. Sarah and Jennifer go further into unpacking what makes a great leader and how that can come into play in a transitioning timeframe when we might quite possibly never go back to normal business as we once knew it. Listen in to get some great tips, where leaders can take action, how to tap into empathy and giving their team a sense of control in these days of uncertainty. And towards the end of the year, we want to get our goals for the year accomplished. Today's show is about meditation. Whether you're a seasoned meditator or you're just starting out, this story will serve you well today. Meditations helps us live on "island time" and help us destress. This week on Finding Success in Life for the Modern Woman, we are interviewing Menno Henselmans. We are talking all things weightlifting and nutrition for women. He’s super geeky (in a great way ;-)) and uses only evidence based data to backup his training and nutrition protocols for weightlifting, healthy eating plans, losing weight and burning belly fat. www.UnlockYouMovie.com www.FSLModern.com
Talking about MANIFESTATION. The Law of the Mind states that everything you experience in life is done in pictures and words. When you feel it in your body it becomes a reality. What we most are missing when trying to manifest is faith. In today's episode I'm taking you through an exercise to very quickly prove this phenomenon. It is quite amazing and you will want to tune in to try this. www.FSLModern.com
Talking about relationships today. Relationships are a hot button for women. Whether it's with our partner, kids, girlfriends, coworkers…What can we do about having better relationships? Here's a key tip: INVITE CHOICE. instead of expecting something from people, we have to invite choice back. Maybe making the choice of holding our tongue and keeping our side of the street clean. Listen in to hear more about this tip and my recent experience with it. Visit us at www.fslmodern.com

By accident, Chris Holder blended QiGong and Chinese medicine and realized that it has a great amount of efficacy for very ill people. Chris started exploring the possibility of using the same protocol for athletes at Cal Poly Pomona University, San Luis Obispo who might just need a “tune up”, and they saw great results. They started to see athletes getting stronger and faster. Bring inflammation down. Clearing their mind. Sleeping better. Having a peace of mind, and being prepared to perform. Qigong is still fairly taboo, so other universities are not picking up on it yet, and seeking Chris to expand his program into other universities. What is Qigong? Traditional Chinese medicine revolves around 4 main pillars: Qigong Acupuncture Herbs Massage Qigong is the mother of acupuncture. Everything that goes on in acupuncture (meridians, vibrating energy, movement, chi movement, breath, etc.), happens in Qigong but without the needles. It helps you move through the energy through a series of physical exercises and breathing control. You learn to control your energy. It does a woo-woo feel to it, and most of the information you find on it online has cosmic type costumes and backgrounds. Chris’ goal is to normalize it as much as possible, it doesn’t have to have that “weird” look and make it look as comfortable as possible. When you take your first breath as a newborn, and you take in the energy of the room with that. So your line beings to move around. When it moves too far to the side, that’s when you see illnesses. Qigong helps realign that line down the middle of the body, and this is where people will feel their best. Who are you treating with Qigong? Chris does no advertising or marketing. He became a Taoist priest and sent it out to the divine that he is here to help those that need and want to be helped. He sees a lot of people who are getting their funeral arrangements together. People who are dying of cancer and other types of diseases. For a period of time, all he would see is women who had been abused. It’s the Universe responding. He sees people who usually cannot get a solution through Western processes. Chris shares amazing stories of how Qigong has changed and saved many lives. A very interesting episode! One woman's amazing story through the struggles of becoming a mother and how the very same struggles shaped her positive outlook on life. Shelley is married to her high school sweetheart. They started dating at the age of 16, at which age she also learned she couldn't carry her own children, due to a unique genetic condition. It was devastating but also was not the worst news at that age when other girls her age were having abortions. Somewhere in her 20s, it really hit her, because she decided she really wanted to be a mother. Finally, in their 30s, they had a surrogate lined up. So she had the oven ready and just needed the bun to put in it. She never imagined that the real struggle would be getting the bun vs. the oven. This is where her IVF story begins and where she related to so many women who's IVF process was not successful. She shares her loss with their first try with the surrogate and all the other circumstances around that time period, from losing her dogs to a home purchase falling through. All the chaos kept her and her husband together and getting through all the losses. Today, her and her husband share an amazingly strong bond. Shelley, unabashedly, shares the struggles in her relationship having gotten married at the age of 21, their struggles, their losses, their growing up and the lessons they learned along the way that kept them together for two decades. The one thing that Shelley has learned through this all: Gratitude- the gratitude journey is the way to reduce the static in life. It's a unique space that has enabled her to live in today, with a gratitude for today. Your future will thank you for your gratitude today. Meditation is a huge key to practicing gratitude because of what it does to your awareness. Shelley considers meditation the most critical habit she has developed. Before your feet hit the ground, tell yourself that something wonderful is going to happen today. Spend the whole day looking for that awesome. Challenge your partner, husband or friend to do the same. The 4 Habits Shelley Has Developed to Ensure Her Health Habit: Walk everyday Loads of daily gratitude Drink enough water Take deep breaths FSLModern is now sponsored by Marriage OS. Lynne McTaggart discusses with us the miraculous healing effects of small groups with us and how we too can achieve this from home. Award-winning journalist and international bestselling author, Lynne McTaggart plans scientific study of the power of group intention, accidentally discovers the miraculous rebound healing power of focusing on others rather than on yourself. From causing seeds to grow faster, to reducing the effects of PTSD in people. She has done numerous studies and experiments of groups of people gathered to think about the same intention and focus for about 10 minutes at the same exact time, even when these people were in different parts of the world, and has witnessed and discovered that the power of intention works. Powering Up is the program she developed for group intentions. It is mind-blowing that this works, but it’s not the big story. Lynne is now running huge experiments with big world issues, like violent crime in certain areas of the U.S. and peace in Jerusalem, and is seeing great results, by having groups of people focus on thinking of those areas and what the outcome they want to see. They have not only seen great results for the area and intent in which they were focusing, but also in the participants that are doing the focusing and intention. Participants reported their lives and relationships were improving after their participation. The beauty of these intention group is that it doesn’t matter the size of the group. They have seen results with 7 people in the same room and with thousands of people worldwide, and it works virutally too! Her book The Power of 8 is all about harnessing the miraculous energies of a small group to heal others, your life and the world. She talks about the positive effects that doing a good deed has on ourselves like improving our nervous system. This is truly a fascinating episode to listen to. They're offering a COMPLIMENTARY Breakthrough Session to all FSLers. Click HERE to book your Breakthrough Session today! And now….our guest David Cottrell. What makes a great leader? The million dollar question!! There are a lot of factors. Surround yourself with good people. You're only as good as the people you have working with you. Once you have the team that will help where you want to get…you need… Clarity- Sometimes people are really good at getting to the wrong place because they don't know where they're trying to get. This can be developed with your own people. Communication- Being able to deliver with clarity what you're trying to accomplish and have everyone understand why it's important. Empower others- Allow your people to do their job, allow them to lead where they are. If you don't allow them to, you're stifling your opportunity for better results. What hacks do you have to help overstressed leaders? It is always changing and evolving. The difficult part for people today because of the vast amount of information that is hitting us today, is discerning was is true and was is fiction. What is the truth of what we have to deal with? Determine that vs. what is a perceived truth of what we think we need to be taking care of. This is where clarity comes in. What is really important and how should I spend my time? There will still be conflict and things we do not have the time to do. But once we are clear on the truth of what must be done and not just to try to please everyone, we will actually be more fulfilled. What Are Some Tips to Reach Clarity and Determine What is Important? People make assumptions without asking questions. If we as leaders in any company communicate better, be direct, we will have a shortcut to reach clarity. You have to leave the feelings of inadequacy or feeling like we will be reprimanded for asking questions so we can reach the goal quicker. Everyone is trying to reach a goal, so let's start asking the questions that feel uncomfortable. People's time is valuable and the more we can respect that by asking direct questions, the better it's going to be for all parties involved and we can manage everything better. A Tip for People in New Roles at Work. If you're just accepting a new position, the worst thing you can do is go in and change things because you don't have the right perspective yet on what the culture is. For anyone who is taking on a new role, it is best to do nothing, look, ask evaluate. Find out why things are done the way they are. It might not be a good reason, but there's a reason. Do this before any changes are made. First, develop trust with your people, get them involved, then make changes. You need trust to develop people, which you will need to make changes. Don't just tell people what to do, when they're involved they feel like they're accomplishing something as well. What to do to Surround Yourself with the Right People? Most people are promoted to a position because they were good at their position, not necessarily because they have the right skills for that position. The first thing that promoted person learns is that not everyone cares as much as they do for the end goal and that no everyone is really skilled to be where they're at. Before you actually hire someone for a position, do the following: Find at least 3 people who are qualified for that position- a lot of people don't want to do this because it takes time. What it means is that if you hired just one of these people, the job would get done. Get help from HR if you have to do perform good interviews. Interview them 3 different times- if you're going to have someone working for you from 8 to 5, you need to know as much as you can about those people. Once in the morning, noon and after work on different days, so you can get as much information as you can from them. When they're in interviewing with you, they're all smiles. You have to understand you're going to lose some of that enthusiasm. So if you're stretching it to get them to fit that position, you're going to lose some of that and it's going to be worse. Get at least 3 other people to interview with you. Get some people on your team. One of the things that will make a valuable team, is that there needs to be a fit with what you currently have. Get the superstars on your team, so they also have some skin in the game, and they will help the chosen person be successful too. Mistakes will still be made, but if you do the above, you'll have a lot better chance of getting the right people on your team. Such great tips!!! This is really profound!! First answer, what is the one thing that your team can bring to the table? When something from outside the box comes in, you can evaluate if this is something you should be working on and spending time on. You are there to accomplish that main thing. So many great nuggets of information and tips to being a great leader, forming a great team, gaining clarity and communicate! A must listen!! And can you really develop that trust and relationship via email? No, really? Take a listen and give us your thoughts in the comments. Todd White started biohacking a few years back to eat better and become healthier. He quickly discovered that he could no longer enjoy his wine without feeling sick and getting drunk easily, or have it affect his body negatively (living just outside Napa Valley mind you!!!) He realized that the same mass manufacturing that is happening to food….is happening to WINE!!!! And it's a very well-kept secret that wine is not being grown in vineyards in chateaus in France…but being mass manufactured with all kinds of dark, dirty secrets. Check out this article Are Wines Toxic? to learn more about it. There are very few natural wine makers in the world. If we're going to be life-long wine drinkers, we have to be careful about how much we drink and what we drink. Most of us don't sit down and have ONE glass of wine, or one margarita….we have several. So Dry Farm Wines begins with a lower alcohol product, so we are able to have more servings. They don't have wines over 12.5%. Standards on the shelf contain over 14% alcohol and contain sugars and other additives. There are 76 additives approved by the FDA to be used in wines across the United States. They spend tens of millions of dollars to keep labels off of wines and keep this all a secret. Dry Farm Wines procures wines from small vineyards in Europe. No wines in the US meet Dry Farm Wines criteria. Dry Farm Wines are pure artisanal, and deliciously clean: Sugar free Low sulfites Low alcohol Mycotoxin/Mold-Free No additives Dry-Farmed Organic and biodynamic Old Vines Hand harvested Wild Native Yeast Small productions Gluten-free Paleo-friendly Keto-friendly Low carb-friendly Mouthwateringly delicious If you're paleo or keto or following a diet protocol, commercial wines will not meet your requirements. No more hangovers and no more headaches with Dry Farm Wines!!! Dry Farm Wines has very generously offered all our listeners a bottle of wine for a penny!! Today’s episode is a RELAUCNH of one of our favorite episodes of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman. We welcome Dr. William Davis to talk about why we’re seeing so many everyday diseases and conditions, how grains have changed from what they were only decades ago, how these are contributing to our health (or lack thereof), and how to regain control of our health. Dr. Davis is author of the book Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You And How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor. Undoctored seeks to set you free from the predatory practices of the healthcare industry by helping you achieve ideal health, weight, and day-to-day functioning. Americans face daily struggles with ballooning costs, unsatisfactory outcomes, and over-whelming frustration with the U.S. healthcare system which aims to address illness but rarely accomplishes real health. Instead, we have a healthcare system that promotes a vicious cycle of illness followed by unnecessary medical procedures, expensive and counterproductive drugs, and disastrous health outcomes. We’re often told that we need grains to be healthy. This is nonsense. Grains actually cause a number of nutritional deficiencies. The most common everyday diseases like migraine, IBS, rheumatoid arthritis, plantar fasciitis, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, etc, go away when following Dr. Davis’ 6 step plan that you can do without your doctor. When dealing with our body, our health wellness and our illnesses, we are the most educated person in a room with our doctors. We make it our business to learn what is going on with our body. Doctors make it their business to increase their bottom line, through MRIs, and chemo, and all the revenue producing activities they’re generating. But we are now living in the information age, and we can take our body’s health into our own hands. “The enemy of healthcare is not sickness. The enemy of the healthcare system are healthy people.”- Dr. William Davis 6 Week Program to Take Control of Your Health Dr. Davis starts with trying to make people skeptical about their doctor and the “health” in their “healthcare”. It is wheat and grain elimination, sugar limitation, iodine/thyroid stabilization and some other key steps. It makes you healthy, stronger and slender. This is not gluten free. You will have astounding, healthy control of your health and that of your family’s. The results of Dr. Davis’ 6-week program are superior to solutions provided by the conventional healthcare system. You will be equipped to manage your own health and sidestep the misguided motives of a profit-driven medical system. How do you Collaborate with your Doctor on this Program? Tell them you don’t’ want to talk about medicine and drugs, tell them you want to talk about nutrition. If your doctor tells you they’re not interested, or that’s not how it works, walk out. You may have to find a functional, integrative doctor, naturopath or a chiropractor who can refer you to other like-minded practitioners. But keep at it and you will find the right doctor to work with. Dr. Davis’ 3 Habits to Ensure His Health Eat no grains and no sugar. Take vitamin D and get in the sun. Dr. Michael Ash goes into detail explaining the correlation between gut health and chronic illnesses. He provides some very good tips to prevent and reverse illnesses and talks about one very specific fruit we should all be consuming (and is probably sitting on every countertop in America right now). He's scientifically explains everything, but in a way we can all understand. What should we know about the mucosal immune system? The vast majority of people in the world will die of inflammatory chronic illnesses. The primary mechanism for making those conditions develop is an up-regulation of the immune system. And the largest part of our immune system is the referred to mucosal immune system. In simple terms, it's all the tissues in our body that are wet: eyes, mouth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys. All these have fluids over the surface performing roles. We share all the cells in them with creatures like bacteria, viruses, worms and sometimes parasites. Some are helpful and some are problematic. The outside world reaches in to us primarily through the mucosal immune system. The better that system is to interpret the outside world, the more reliable we can be in terms of our health. The mucosal system is our body's diplomat, taking charge and care of our body. What can we do to prepare our mucosal immune system to be the best? Look at our digestive tract first. What we are putting in our body is very important in terms of how our body is going to act. First what we eat is important. Consume foods that have messages that our body recognizes. And then, what we drink. If our system does not receive foods that our body recognizes (plant based foods grown in good soil), our body's response is to produce inflammation, acting as a defense mechanism. Simply getting older we produce more inflammation. So we should consume counter regulatory defenses as we age. So what foods should we consume? Plant based foods carry messages that animal based foods do not. So the more plant based foods we consume, the better prepared our bodies will be. Vegetables that are slightly bitter in their content are more densely packed with those keys that our immune system is looking for than those that are sweeter. Crunchy veggies like brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, parsnips, etc. which are stiff. Can be cooked or steamed, 3 to 4 times a week. These are remarkable! They are miraculous to our body to protect us against risk. If we don't consume these foods, we can survive but we cannot survive effectively. Therefore, other risks and challenges to our immune system are much more difficult to turn off and take under control. This then manifests into chronic ill health like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, dementia, Alzheimer's, eye dysfunction, problems of reproduction and lots of gastrointestinal issues (IBS, bloating, diarrhea, cancer). Fruits that contain those good messages for our bodies, like the veggies mentioned above are apples. Eating apples can be medicinal. Cook them by cleaning them, peel, cut into cubes, drop in a pan and cook with cinnamon and raisins and water, simmer (about 6 apples), soften and loose shape but not completely disappear. Referred to as stewed apples or applesauce. You'll see a gelatinous fluid called pectin. Pectin is a raw material for bacteria inside the gastrointestinal tract. When fed with pectin they manufacture fatty acids. The organisms look for the pectin and produce a substrate, the most powerful anti-inflammatory chemical a human can produce. A study done showed that consuming 3 apples a day was the same as taking 10 mg of prednisone in the treatment of inflammatory gut problems, preventing illnesses that can ultimately create cancer. Recommend 2 to 3 apples a day cooked, if you're ill. For prevention, 1 a day. Raw is not the same as if it's cooked. Make it for dessert and feed everyone!! Get your FREE download here, Review Article: Is This a Perfect Functional Meal for Mucosal Tolerance, provided by Dr. Michael Ash to learn more about apples, the scientific rationale behind it, allergy protection, antibiotic impact, phenolic compounds, apple skins, inflammation control, the brain benefits, his applesauce recipe and more. What other things can we do to prevent inflammation in our body? Avoid additional sugars. Anything that has been refined, for example sugar, corn and other sources, the less you consume of them the lower your risk of developing long term chronic illness. Vegetables and fruits can convey benefits. So can meat, it does have a role in humans, but make it grass fed proteins. The Mediterranean style diet receives high votes because statistically it proves to be successful. Fats comes in many forms. Simplistically, fat has been vilified and is wrong. There are fats that will never find success in human health. But high quality fats will benefit the health of our brain. Our diet should contain a reasonable quantity, which is a conversation for another day altogether. PROBIOTICS Two ways to identify the consumption of probiotics. Ecological consumption is when you just pick up something at the store with a mix of strains. When a type of organism, species and strain are identified to treat a certain type of illness. Many studies have clearly shown that even if you just use a healthy strain of probiotic, you generally enjoy some improvement in overall health, by reducing inflammation. If we're over the age of 40, it is most advantageous to consume probiotics. What are the benefits or probiotics? There are 7 things that probiotics do for our health. Dr. Ash spends some time explaining what these all are, as well as the dosage recommended based on body size and age. [et_bloom_inline optin_id=optin_4] About Dr. Michael Ash: Michael Ash DO, ND, BSc, DipION was in full time clinical practice for 25 years during which time he founded and developed the largest Integrative Medicine practice in the south west of England, incorporating the philosophy of functional medicine from 1991 onward. He is no longer in full time practice having sold his practice in 1997, but devotes time to research, writing and the management of complex immune mediated illnesses through the application of natural and pharmaceutical interventions. He has specialised in the role of the wet tissues (such as the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts) in human health for over 20 years, through the application of food and lifestyle based interventions aimed at the remediation of dysfunctional bacterial communities and associated tissues essential to a healthy mucosal immune system. The manipulation and alteration of these commensal bacteria and tissues through changes in medicine and lifestyles over the last 100 years has seen a profound move away from acute infectious diseases to more chronic complex illnesses. The changing microbial landscape including decreased diversity and loss of key stone species and their associated impact on the creation of non-resolving inflammation are increasingly causally linked to many of our burgeoning health problems. An author, researcher and presenter with skills in business development as well as clinical care, he has also been an adjunct member of the Institute for Functional Medicine’s faculty for many years, and provides a unique set of insights into the application of often complex and intersecting immune patterns for the resolution and restoration of loss of homeostasis within the framework of analytical and clinical application. In this episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman podcast, we talk with Gary Taubes about sugar. He provides a wealth of information on sugar including the effect it has had on our society for decades and some of the biggest "diet" myths. He explains the correllation between sugar and cigarettes…you must here this! And we discuss why sugar is so addictive. This is one of those episodes you will want to download and save in your podcast app to listen to over and over again. It's no fluff, all science, just the hard facts. Gary has brought a lot of scientific nutrition information to main stream media….with a lot of resistance. There is too much information out there and most of it is misguided. Even from BIG authorities we tend to trust. How do we cut through the clutter to get to the truth? Obesity and diabetes epidemic is higher than ever before…and growing. What we've been told in the past is wrong. People are eating low fat diets, whole grains, fruits and vegetables and they're still obese. The tendency then becomes not believe the authority figures providing this information. They're following protocol and they're still sick, what gives? So they start following other sources. Being other doctors promising diet miracles. They try everything: The Zone, South Beach, the Ornish diet, vegan, paleo…they become desperate because they can't shed and keep off the excess pounds. A journalist, like Gary comes in, and tries to figure it out by looking at all the data and starts determining who is right and who is wrong, based purely on scientific data. Then people have to decide which journalist they're going to believe. So what is the solution? First, you read all these books available and decide what makes sense to you. Like doing research to buy a new car. But you're always going to wonder. You will have to experiment and try different approaches. A diet is not something you can go on, lose weight and go back to the way they were eating. You expect to keep the weight off. Not going to happen! If you lose a lot of weight and feel healthy, that is probably the way you need to live your life. You have to make sure you're not starving yourself or working out 6 hours a day. If you change the way you eat again, however, you will gain the weight back. So it's a lifestyle change…not a diet. This process of experimentation is crucial. What do you see as some of the most significant bad nutritional myths? There are 3 that are very wrong, according to Gary's research: Low fat is healthy. Science does not support this. That you get fat just because you eat too much. This is naïve and simplistic. Fat accumulation is determined by hormones. Mostly plant diet is the healthiest diet. This has not been demonstrated. Gary goes into some detail on each of these, so listen in. What is causing the obesity and diabetes epidemics? The fact that it is everywhere, in every population means it is the same thing that is being added to everything. Sugar is the prime suspect. It is metabolized differently, by a different organ. It causes insulin resistance which is leading to obesity and diabetes. Gary makes a very incredible correlation between sugar content in cigarettes! Did you know that every cigarette in America has a blend of sugar in it to make them more inhalable? Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has exploded in recent years. It's often diagnosed in children and is associated with obesity. Sugar plays a role. Why is sugar so highly addictive? Is sugar a food or a drug? When you consume sugar it triggers a response on the part of the brain, the "reward center". This is the part of the brain that manifests pleasure and reinforces behaviors that are good for the race (food and sex). Dopamine is triggered and results in added pleasure. Other addictive drugs do the same thing, like cocaine and nicotine. Other things like sex become less rewarding when the "addictive" drug is taken in larger amounts. What moderation means? How much is still too much? For many it is best to not have any of it at all than to have it in moderation. This applies to sugar, tobacco, alcohol, etc. It's easier to keep the switch off than to try to turn it on temporarily. Gary's 3 Habits to Ensure His Health Journey: Stay off the internet. Workout in small doses every day, all he has time for. Stay away from sugar and highly processed grains. Dr. Grace Liu, the Gut Goddess is on the podcast with us today. We’re exploring how having a healthy gut can lead to having a great butt. Dr. Grace Liu was in conventional pharmacy with drugs and prescriptions. Like a lot of her patients, she was following the SAD (standard American diet), and was getting fatter and fatter every year. She ended up having some very bad medical problems due to birth control, adrenal dysregulation, Hashimoto’s (but naturally reversed it), and became very overweight, fatigued and tired. She figured out that pharmaceuticals were not helping her health, and completely dived into bugs vs. drugs. We have good and bad bacteria growing in our guts. Dr. Liu teaches a microbiome protocol and brings back what is missing to regrow our tissues, all these things we need to restore our health. What do ladies need to know about the gut microbiome? Dr. Liu works with a lot of female executives, multi-tasking moms and athletes, sharing how to have the perfect microbiome. Our microbiome builds our health, and diversity is always better. She looks at what is a liability in the gut with testing. Technology is in its infancy, it can only tell us so much. At least the cost is coming down, but it’s still at around $5,000 for this testing. She looks at what is dragging the gut down. Antibiotics can wipe out a lot of good things and we need to replenish with probiotics and foods that contain lots of probiotics. Same with exercise. We need to go hiking, go to the gym, different things in nature where there’s different types of soils and bacteria. Many executives now work from home and may never leave the house. So our immunity isn’t helped when we are not exposing our guts to these bacteria. People used to care for ranches, and grow their own veggie gardens, weed their own yard, mow the lawn and not add stuff to water. Not anymore. Dandelions are a superfood and yet we have created a bunch of pesticides to kill them. The Biggest Mistake We’re Making to our Microbiome in Modern Day There is a strain that most of us don’t have. We can only get it from the legacy of our mother because we get it through vaginal birth. So many people today are missing this because of regularly scheduled c-sections. This same bacteria makes us happy and keeps us in a good mood. This bacteria, if we have it can get lost over time, but we can resurrect it with the right probiotics. Autoimmune conditions, cancer and diabetes are just a few diseases that start in our gut. Top 3 Tips to Improve our Gut Health We need to move. Most of us are very sedentary, especially those of us who are working from home. We’re talking aerobic infusion, get to 60 to 80% of heart rate. It makes our microbiome happy. Take a probiotic. Doesn’t matter what time of day you take it, just take it. There are some that are better on an empty stomach. Our ancestors took probiotics too…it’s called DIRT! Fuel it. Bad flora likes sugar. Dr. Grace gives us a list of superfoods that make our gut happy. Great Superfoods for Good Gut Health Brown or red rice or quinoa, these become fibers for us. Lentils or beans when they’re combined with rice. Red potatoes, yams, root/tuber vegetables. Lemon juice, or vinegars with green salad. Berries, multicolored vegetables and greens. Spirulina, chlorella and sea weed (algae) are also GREAT for the gut and awesome source for minerals. Check out this interview with Catharine Arnston, all about algae and it’s benefits. In this article you can read all the nutrition you can find in spirulina algae tablets, ENERGYbits, helps eliminate fatigue and hunger instantly, improves energy, wellness and your waistline all at the same time. What is SIBO and How do You Recognize it? SIBO is an acronym for Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth. It means the small intestine has a lot of overgrowth in it. We can clean it very slowly over time. We can tell we have it with cravings because we’re not absorbing our nutrients when we eat. How to Cure SIBO – Dr. Grace’s 7-Steps Step One – Eat Fermented Foods Step Two – Eat Resistant-Starch-Rich Tubers, Grains, Legumes and Pulses Step Three – Eat Soil-Based Probiotics Step Four – Eat BIONIC FIBER and Burn Body Fat Step Five – Exercise low-moderate intensity one hour daily continuously (10,000 steps) Step Six – Avoid allergenic foods (corn, soy, gluten/wheat, dairy, nuts, egg whites, etc). Avoid GMO products and livestock/poultry fed GMO crops (corn, soy, etc) Step Seven – Heal hormones and immunity — take adrenal support, liver support, antioxidants etc SIFO- Small Intestinal Fungal Overgrowth. No one is talking about it yet, but this is far worse. People who have had antibiotics have a lot more overgrowth than other people. They don’t necessarily have symptoms. It comes up as mental fog, PMS, cystic ovarian disease, fibroids, acne, schizophrenia, etc. Does Wine and Alcohol affect our Gut Health? Studies show that even a little bit of alcohol can hurt the gut if it’s already unhealthy. If gut health is good, then it’s no problem. Alcohol can cause brain fog. Dr. Grace offers some ideas of what you can take to protect yourself before you drink so you don’t feel the effects in your stomach and head. Same tips can be applied when eating gluten and dairy, especially when traveling. Check out this interview for more information on organic, non-toxic wines, and this article to find out what the toxins in wine does to our bodies. Dr. Grace’s take on Vaccinations Babies don’t have an immune system. Babies immune system is mom’s milk. So there’s no sense in giving babies vaccines from day one. Studies show that flu vaccines are not effective to do what they say they’re doing, compared to the placebo. When we inject all the mercury and aluminum that is in the vaccination, it’s really bad for our bodies. Sometimes they even contain allergens that some of us are sensitive to like dairy and gluten. To protect from flu, have a great microbiome. There’s a lot we can do to fix it. We can even do it on our own. Dr. Grace uses a lot of mushrooms, it’s good fungus and are super anti-candida and anti-fungal. Dr. Grace’s Ebook, Magic in Your Microbiome offers some great insight. 3 Habits the Gut Goddess has Developed to Ensure Healthy Gut Microbiome Lost of fiber Probiotics- Control is a great one that helps control weight as well Workout daily- tries for one hour a day, even if it’s just walking the dog, gym, lifting, running, kickboxing, dance to music and meditation.
Through the process of researching and helping her sister find a way to alkalize her body, Catharine Arnston found the huge benefits of algae, including to help cure and recover from breast cancer. The most nutrient dense food in the world, very highly used in Asia. There are 15,000 strains of algae, most of which kill you. So you can’t just stick your finger in the algae in your swimming pool. The two algae that are edible and very good for you are spirulina and chlorella. Spirulina is technically a bacteria. It has the highest concentration of protein in the world. Very high amount of iron. Each spirulina tab has 1 calorie and 40 vitamins and minerals. Satisfies your hunger and gives you a lot of energy. Her spirulina pill is called EnergyBits. A second type of spirulina is called SkinnyBits. It helps you lose weight because it controls your hunger and gives you more energy, and mental focus. Chlorella is the other algae and it is a plant. It pulls toxins out of your body and has the highest concentration of chlorophyll. Chlorella has 1000 times more chlorophyll than greens. They’re called RecoveryBits because it helps recover from strenuous workouts, or too much wine (because it pulls out alcohol/toxins). Also increases melatonin and serotonin in the body. How To Take Algae Pills Can take with food or not. Can have them with breakfast or as snacks when you need a bit of energy. They can be swallowed or chewed. Catharine eats them with macadamia nuts (likes it for the fat) and it becomes a crunchy snack. She also has them at night because the body goes into a natural detox cycle at night. She takes her EnergyBits before her workouts and her RecoveryBits after her workouts. Algae for Cancer Treatment Scientists have started to use algae for delivering chemotherapy. They have been using algae as a delivery vehicle. They inject the algae with the chemotherapy. The algae finds the cancer and attaches itself to it, and the chemotherapy delivers only to those tissues. This is quite amazing!! This means that everything else doesn’t get destroyed. Algae for Kids In Japan, they have found that what keeps babies who cannot digest milk alive, is spirulina. Spirulina has the same nutrients as mother’s milk. That’s how safe spirulina is for kids to take. Start your kids slowly because they may not like it initially. Try to make a game of it. They will turn their tongues green, so you’ll need to try to make it fun. Algae also helps the brain with conditions like ADHD, Alzheimer’s prevention, depression, inflammation reduction and other conditions. Catharine has offered our listeners a 20% DISCOUNT with code FSL at check out!! Go to www.energybits.com to place your order. 3 Habits Catharine has Developed to Ensure her own Health Journey Go outside daily with some sort of exercise Algae daily Glass of water with lemon every morning Catharine’s Bio: Catharine started ENERGYbits after her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and was advised by her oncologist that an alkaline, plant-based diet would help her heal. In the process of helping her sister, Catharine learned about the health benefits of a plant based diet and felt it was critical that others learn about it too. She gave up her 25 year corporate career to return to school to study nutrition. After graduating she discovered algae, the greenest, most alkaline food in the world. Algae is endorsed by NASA and the United Nations as the most nutritionally dense food in the world. It has more protein than steak, more iron than spinach, more antioxidants than blueberries, forty vitamins and minerals and just one calorie. The only trouble with algae is that it is virtually unknown (outside of Asia). Catharine decided to devote her life to making algae safe, easy to understand and easy to use. She founded ENERGYbits to make that happen and loves introducing algae to everyone she meets. What is Intuition? Our intuition speaks to us in many different ways. It could be a gut feeling. Especially for women….we get a deep sense about something feeling right or not. Some of us get it through visions. We get information through a vision that can help us make decisions. Another way for intuition to come in is through sound and vibrations. Sometimes we can hear our own voice that speaks to us. It’s living in the senses. All our senses are information gathering. When we tap into our senses we are able to connect with our spirit, to help guide us. How do we stop and get in touch with our intuition and learn to trust ourselves? The holidays are a perfect time to let energy push us. The main source is meditating and energy work. Learning to put our attention where we want to put it. Wherever we put our attention, that is what becomes our world. When the attention is on the hustle and bustle and that energy push, we get swept into it and that’s what we manifest more of. We get scattered, and we’re not grounded and centered. When we stop and have that time to meditate, ground and be in the body, we can be aware of the energy that we’re holding in our space so we can release it and separate from it. Then we can see it separate from us and know what is ours and what is not ours. We become aware of that energy flowing around us, but we don’t have to give our attention to it and not suffer the effects of it. Most can see themselves meditating on the beautiful mountaintop, in the quiet of nature. But it’s really in the subway that we need to learn to meditate. In everyday life. When you practice meditation at home for the real world and you find yourself in a stressful situation at the grocery store, or the subway, then you can pull from that practice to help deal with that situation. What is Energy? Energy– our energy is our own unique vibration. Vibrations can be high, or low. What is empowering is when we start to realize that we can set our vibration. We decide what other energies can be in our space or not. What are Chakras? Chakras are part of our energetic body. We have our physical body which is matter. And we have our energetic body, called astrobody and many other terms. The Chakras are kind of like the organs of our energetic body. They’re energy centers within our body. They’re shaped like ice cream cones. They spin. And sometimes they’re more open than closed. And some say they have colors. But Aimee does not believe or see them in color. Everyone sees them in their own way. They run from the base of your spin to the top of your head. A Brief Explanation of the Chakras 1st chakra- located at base of spine. It’s about survival. 2nd chakra- located at naval. It’s about emotions and feeling energy. 3rd chakra- located below the wrist at the stomach. It’s about the energy distribution. Our confidence and self esteem. 4th chakra- located at your heart center. This is about your affinity with yourself and with others. 5th chakra- located at your throat. It’s about your ability to communicate. 6th chakra- located at your forehead. It’s about clairvoyance. This is where you can be most neutral. 7th chakra- located at the top of your head. It’s all about you’re knowingness. This is when you know something off the top of your head. You just know it without any intellectual reasoning. There are minor chakras as well. Two minor ones at the bottom of your feet and two in the palms of your hands. Let’s talk about wanting to CONTROL everything Many of our busy FSLers in career and as moms, want to keep everything controlled. Before we can take any action there is a vision that we have. Every amazing CEO and entrepreneur, any creation started with a vision. Whether we’re conscious of the vision or not. That vision turns into a thought. From there we take action and we create it. When we seek out to create something, the body starts to look at these visions. Sometimes it can be overwhelming for the body. Because the body can die and has limitations to it; time and space. But the vision lives and it becomes real that minute you visualize it. Sometimes we want to give the reigns over to the body and we feel like we have to make it happen. But this actually hingers the energy. When we have resistance the energy can’t move through it. When you’re neutral and not trying to hold on (take control), it flows naturally. Aimee explains this beautifully in the podcast. Listen in so you get the details of what she has to say about this. Aimee has provided our listeners with a special grounding meditation AND a journal prompt workbook for the meditation It’s 9 minutes, but listen to it and start paying attention to what is happening in your body. It’s hard to sit in silence, or quiet the mind, but you can start by becoming aware of your thoughts. Make it a goal to listen to it daily for a week. After your meditation, you can take your workbook and start journaling by following the prompts. Meditation and journaling can be a transformative experience! Download it here and come back and tell us how it went. Would love to hear about your experience. To start a meditation practice, you can start with just 2 minutes and grow from there. In this interview with Michelle Chalfant, we talk about starting a meditation practice and it will be the perfect place to start to learn and grow your meditation practice. What are you doing to help you deal with the hustle and bustle of the holiday stress? Feeling my feet in the grounds Imagine all of my intentions behind my eyes. I own my space and realize when I’m part of the story. Energy readings. Reminds me and validates me of where I’m at. Meditation Amusement. Don’t take everything so seriously. Amusement is a high vibration and will bring positive energy into your space. Jay Papasan, National Best Selling Author of The ONE Thing, talks to us about finding our purpose in life, narrowing down our priority, taking the steps to maximize it and ultimately reaching our goals. He also talks about the difference between willpower and discipline, and gives us research based evidence that multi-tasking is not effective. What is The ONE Thing? A book about asking yourself that question and giving yourself the time to answer it. Focus on the question “What is the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” So identify the one thing, not two or three. That you CAN do right now, not could or should. Powerful! 3 Steps to Find Your Purpose and Maximize Your Life (or health, or career) Learn how to identify your #1 priority. Commit to the activity. Learn how to make the activity a habit. Jay explains that once you find that activity, to time-block it in your calendar. Preferably first thing in the morning, when willpower is still at it’s peak (more on that below). When you make that appointment with yourself in your calendar, you are 3 times more likely to achieve it. Listen in to get Jay’s tips on how to protect that time block, finding your bunker to do it in and enlisting help from others to hold you accountable. “The minority of what we do brings us the majority of what we do.” Two out of 10 people have identified their purpose. If you haven’t, if you can’t articulate it yet, just pick a direction. Whether it’s to help people or do certain types of activities. Start walking in that direction and start exploring and zero in on what your ONE thing is through trial and error. Willpower vs. Discipline Willpower is the ability to say yes to what you need to do and no to what you don’t. We have a limited supply of willpower daily, with it being at it’s peak in the morning and as the day goes by, willpower is depleted. Ever feel like just grabbing quick, easy, “bad for you” food at the end of a long, tough day instead of deciding to have the salad? That’s because willpower has been depleted. So what do you do? Instead, focus on forming habits through discipline. Discipline is training yourself to do something until it becomes a habit. People fail because they take on too many things or don’t do it long enough. Research shows that it takes on average 66 days to form a habit. There are many number of days out there, but based on research, it’s 66 days. Is Multi-Tasking Effective? Do the most important thing first. Most people want to cross the easy stuff off the list first. Then they want to do two or three things. Researchers call this switch-tasking. Your brain is not really multi-tasking, it’s bouncing back and forth. Research shows that the cost of switching and refocusing daily is 28% of our day. We are losing more than a quarter of our day “multi-tasking”. What would you do if you could get a quarter of your day back? The book identifies 6 areas of life (including IQ) that are affected by multi-tasking. Listen in to hear more, and pick up The ONE Thing to read all the details. Jay’s Bio: Before Jay Papasan co-authored the bestselling Millionaire Real Estate series with Gary Keller, he worked as an editor at Harper Collins Publishers. On today’s episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman, Dr. John Day shares the journey that led him to find the Longevity Village, which inspired his years research and ultimately, to writing his book The Longevity Play: Seven Life Transforming Lessons From Ancient China. These lessons, obtained from a seven remarkable centenarians in Bapan, China, helped Dr. Day turn his own deteriorating health around. The principles Dr. Day teaches his patients and the readers of the The Longevity Plan are profoundly simple yet elusive to many Americans: Eat Good Food, Master Your Mind-Set, Build Your Place in a Positive Community, Be in Motion, Find Your Rhythm, Make the Most of Your Environment and Proceed with Purpose. Al of these concepts are wonderfully illustrated in the stores of the seven remarkable centenarians of Bapan (The Longevity Village) their families and their community. What was found in the Longevity Village and what is now in the book? The book breaks down the seven principles focused in living in tune with our DNA, the way we were designed to live. Starts out with nutrition and eating real food. In this village, there was nothing processed. No sugars or oils. Everything was real food that they foraged, a simple lifestyle. Nothing exotic. Just the way our bodies were supposed to be. Food should be nourishment. How Can Busy People Start to Make the Switch to this Lifestyle? Busy moms and career woman are making their families a priority and running around time pressed. Introduce healing foods with each meal is a good start. Most families are starting the morning with sugar: cereals, pastries and high sugar coffee drinks. Try to introduce vegetables regularly and eliminate sugar. It’s so addictive. Provide kids fruit, vegetables and nuts first before the cereal. People are time-strapped and this can be challenging, but it can be done. One great way is to batch food. Make more than usual over the weekend so you have leftovers to use during the week. Focus on Nightshades Lots of controversy on this. Should I? Shouldn’t I? Some believe they’re the root of many autoimmune diseases and inflammation. Dr. John Day has a thorough blog post on his website about this very subject, referencing research studies. It has been shown in rats that nightshades create inflammation, but it has never been proven in humans. There are no credible studies or science to prove that and rule out these wonderful foods. If you find that your joints hurt when you eat tomatoes, then don’t eat them. But most healthy diets like the Mediterranean diet and Japanese diets include nightshades and these groups have the lowest amounts of autoimmune conditions. 7 Tenants in Longevity Plan 1) Nutrition- eat real food. Eliminate sugars and processed foods. 2) Mindset- this is critical. Every centenarian he met in their home, all shared that they are living the best days of their lives. Each day is an honor and it is an honor to grow older rather than trying to hang on to their youth. Optimistic people live 7 to 8 years longer. Those with gratitude live twice as long. Those that embrace their stress rather than complain about it live 17 years longer. To practice positive mindset, Dr. Day embraces everything that life throws at him. Even stress and challenges, and look at them as obstacles to overcome. 3) Community- something that is not well understood in the medical community. The power of being connected. And we’re not talking technologically. People who feel isolated or lonely, is the biggest predictor of early death…more than smoking and obesity. These communities are very tight knit. Living in multi-generational homes…4 generations in one home! The concept of being connected giving a feeling of belonging and someone to talk to. 4) Physical Activity or Being in Motion- too many of us think that exercise is a swear word….”I gotta go to the gym” and people don’t want to do it. But centenarians know nothing about driving to a gym to move. They live intentional lives and physically active throughout their lives. They are in motion all the time. Exercise doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym. So if you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it. Do other things like walking, dancing and gardening. Studies show that even if you go to the gym and sit at your desk all day, going to the gym cannot undo the damage of sitting at your desk all day. Re-engineer movement back into our lives. Sitting is the new smoking. To Learn More About EnergyBits Click Here Join our private Facebook Group to find other women just like you and find the support to manifest your superwoman powers. Jennifer Knecht talks how to stop, breathe and break through the overwhelm. Ever spend time worrying about the unknown. Spend time looping over a ruminating thought over and over again….even when they’re not reality. We then make them a reality by thinking about them and putting our focus into them. We all operate on deadlines. When the feeling of overwhelm starts to set in and keeps us up at night, we have to stop it in that moment. Like snapping our fingers. Meditation Meditating is not so easy for everyone to sit there and eliminate all thoughts and focus on your breathe. Jennifer is more of a moving meditator…going for walks or runs. Listen in on our meditation podcast here with Michelle Chalfant on How to Start and Build Your Meditation Practice. She even made several customized meditations just for our listeners. Here’s one on Setting Goals and Achieving Success. Daydream There’s research about the need to create intentional day dreaming space. The ways in which you create this is you focus on the really big, hairy a** goal. That vision that you want to achieve, and let your mind wander away and be intentional with that vision. Movement Doing some yoga to help clear the mind. Going on walks or runs. Get your body moving. Take things in bit sized pieces. Rather than worrying about all the things that need to get done at one time, chunk them out. Jennifer likes to calendar them out in “campaigns”. Spend some time every month and look at the big projects we have every month and write them down. EVERYTHING. Work, home, life, health, career, etc. And prioritize them. Determine if these things really need to get done in the next 30 to 90 days. Prioritize them, calendar them out and then….LET THEM GO. Yup, you read that right. Let them go until it’s time to think about them. List out on your calendar when you’re going to focus on each. This may sound simple, but when you apply it…it’s a life changer.
Today’s episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman, is one every lady out there will want to tune in to. Our guest Orion Talmay teaches us to attract our partner or reignite our passion with our current partner, by learning to first love ourselves. We talk forgiveness of our past, acceptance of our body and our stories, and ultimately to be in a place of self love and self acceptance, to open ourselves up to attract not only passion and love, but success and all things positive. It’s a great one ladies!! According, to CDC, in 2014 there were just over 2 million marriages, and nearly 1 million divorces. Statisticsbrain.com states that 44% of the American adult population is single today. Orion’s role is to focus on helping women to live an empowered life and discover the love that they want. We start with how you reignite that passion How can we REIGNITE our relationship? After so many years, we forget that excitement we used to feel in the beginning. As humans, it’s natural to look for danger, and we tend to look for what’s wrong, what’s missing and how we can protect ourselves. We have to consciously work at not thinking and behaving in that manner. Here are Orion’s top tips to reignite: With your partner, every single day, say 3 things to each other that you really liked about your partner. For example: I really appreciated that you washed the dishes. Or, I really liked how you praised me when you were talking to that person. It’s a great way to go to sleep if you do it right before going to bed. Another tool is imago dialogue. You can print out the structure here. It helps you communicate and feel that you are really appreciated when you’re in a fight, disagreement or in a place of frustration. DATE NIGHT!!! Every week or every other week, prepare a date surprise for your partner. This can be a date time event. A hike, a café, a massage…doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s a matter of spending time together. Sex labs- When people are together for a long time and when they lead a busy life, there is no time for sexploration. Set some time in your calendar to explore each other sexually. It’s a dedicated time to explore different sexual activities. It can be silly, and stupid and funny, but many times it’s very hot. Leave your judgement at the door and have no expectations. Be open minded. Tips for Great Communication in Relationships? A great tip in communication is to not dehumanize your partner. Words like bitch, or dog. It may seem harmless, but our subconscious mind does not understand humor. Not even for ourselves, we should not say “I’m so stupid”…because our mind believes it. How to Attract the Perfect Person We attract from our point of attraction. If in our mind we think, all the good men are gay or taken, or all men are dogs, or I’m not good enough, I am intimidating to men…this will be in our energetic field and will not be in alignment with the person we’re looking for. Our “person” can be in the same room and we won’t be able to see them. First and foremost we have to love ourselves, including our shadow parts, and be a goddess to emit high vibrations. How to Get Past Relationship Pain? A healing alchemy- mending the broken pieces. When a women is healed she is ready for the real deal, to be in a great relationship. If a woman does not heal herself and finds a great man, she will sabotage that relationship. Taking ownership of our body, as it is now. Having self-love on a physical level and fall in love with it. Orion teaches women how to tell stories, because that’s what our subconscious understands. So she does guided processes and hypnotic processes to embrace their shadow parts and teach them to take care of themselves and love all those shameful parts of themselves. To accept themselves just the way they are and the open themselves up to accepting the good that is available. Forgive yourself by talking to your younger self and meditating. Tell yourself and your younger self that you love her and you are there for her. Once you forgive, you are in a place of acceptance. When you accept yourself, you not only attract the right person in our life, we attract success and money and other positive things. Todd White started biohacking a few years back to eat better and become healthier. He quickly discovered that he could no longer enjoy his wine without feeling sick and getting drunk easily, or have it affect his body negatively (living just outside Napa Valley mind you!!!) And it’s a very well-kept secret that wine is not being grown in vineyards in chateaus in France…but being mass manufactured with all kinds of dark, dirty secrets. Check out this article Are Wines Toxic? to learn more about it. There are very few natural wine makers in the world. If we’re going to be life-long wine drinkers, we have to be careful about how much we drink and what we drink. Most of us don’t sit down and have ONE glass of wine, or one margarita….we have several. So Dry Farm Wines begins with a lower alcohol product, so we are able to have more servings. They don’t have wines over 12.5%. As woman we find it very difficult to say no to any request that comes our way. We have been taught to be helfpful, and kind and be yes women. And so we have been trained to want to please everyone and put everyone else ahead of our own needs. Even when we don’t have the time or the desire to do so. Sometimes we even feel our body resisting, but we don’t listen! All this people pleasing…leads us to a live a life we may not have wanted. In today’s episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman, Katie Hendricks talks to us about learning to tell the difference between the yes and the nos….by taking our cues from our body. Living and loving consciously. Creating the life we truly want to live. It’s amazing that her teachings are in tune with our guest from last week Aimee Eoff, about listening to our body…our intuition. If you didn’t catch that episode, make sure to listen to it next. What is Conscious Living and Conscious Loving? Conscious Living is being able to fully participate in life by choice, so that we are fully understanding what we really like and don’t like, what we want and don’t want. It allows us to make decisions from the inside out as opposed to from the outside in. The way that most humans are raised is from the outside in, with structures, laws, rules and shaming, to police our behavior. When we live consciously we don’t need all that because we are living in alignment, the way life is flowing. So that if we agree to do something we do it. And we know how to express our feelings and experiences and thoughts. The basic benefit is that we get to be awake and alive. We get to participate fully in our life while we are in it. How do we Start Living Consciously? So how do we live our life responsively rather than reactively? Where we’re creating our life rather than leaving to the effects of circumstances. Katie’s team has developed the 4 Pillars of Integrity which have to do with healthy responsibility, impeccable agreements, emotional transparency and communication skills. These have recently been created in a deck of cards to look at what skills we have already integrated and which we still need to practice. This would be a great place to start. They can be found on Katie’s website. Type in impeccable, the integrity deck. Also found in her new book: Conscious Loving Ever After: How to Create Thriving Relationships at Midlife and Beyond Your experience of living consciously happens choice by choice. When you feel that you’re really stuck, make just one good choice at a time will give you the confidence to keep learning and growing. It’s never too late in life to make new choices and to start building a life that works for you rather than one that was given to you. How to Understand a No or a Yes When You Ask Yourself a Question? As a beginning exploration, remember a recent tine when you were asked to do something or made a choice and you can feel a contraction in your body, that’s usually a no. When you really don’t want to do something you will feel it on your neck or teeth. The experience of yes in our body experience it as an uprising, expansion feeling through your chest. It feels like champagne bubbles. It has more of a “hah” quality. Women don’t really hear those signals because we have received so much external information. We have to start trusting our own inner signals. It creates a flow of harmony. New FB page The BQ Hub is a page created with classes and tips for how to open up your body intelligence even more. There’s an assessment and lots of information so people can learn to be at home in their bodies. “Use your Body Intelligence to feel the Yes and No” – Katie Hendricks How Do You Reconcile the Opposition With Your Spouse? When your spouse or partner wants to do something but you really don’t want to, how do you reconcile that feeling in your body? Compromise is a relationship killer. When people have to think of a relationships as settling for less, it’s not going to appetizing to anybody. People keep tuning into “what do I really want?” If one person wants to eat one thing, and their partner wants something different, what emerges is a solution not a compromise. It’s more of a synergy. Start practicing with your choice of clothes, or restaurants before you start listening to your body on big decisions like whether you want to marry someone, or whether you want to buy a house. Tips to Start Engaging With Spouse Toward Conscious Loving Communication is a game of toss. Think of yourself as a toddler in the realm of communication, like tossing a ball back and forth will allow you to be at ease with yourself rather than critical. Say to him “Tell me more” and you’re tossing the communication back on his court. Then you can use “Ooh, then what happened?” And you can also use “What interests you most about that?” Also use body sensations. Katie explains how to do this and how it will evolve over time with practice. It’s quite powerful and effective. You will learn that your conversations will be about discover as opposed to about blame. Why Goosebumps are an Important Body Signal? Goosebumps is a rush through the skin and the whole body. It lets you know that you’re in the presence of BIG TRUTH, of something of big value, and maybe a signal that you’re on to something important. If you find yourself with goosebumps, give attention to it. Notice what is happening and what your body is trying to tell you. What you give attention to, develops further. Aimee Eoff of Soul Happy teaches us how to sit in our emotions and get in touch with our intuition, to trust ourselves and our bodies. She provides quick tips for women with a lot of noise on their minds. Ever find yourself saying “I knew it”? That was your intuition calling! Listen in to learn how to find your own answers within yourself. Aimee has always been intuitive since childhood. But she really didn’t know it. In her 20s she started to realize she was really different and felt there was something wrong with her. She could feel what other people felt, she could hear what other people were feeling. With the advice from a therapist, she took a 4 week meditation class and it completely changed her life. She recognized that her intuition was a gift and helped her to identify what her energy is, as opposed to what other people’s energy is in a room. She is passionate about teaching people to connect with their intuition and their intellect. What is Intuition? We all hold energy. Every word we use has an energy attached to it. We all visualize the word differently, based on experiences we each have had. Aimee created a fun little quiz that is available on her website. It allows you to see what way your intuition speaks to you most dominantly. These are intuitive essences. Check it out…we did! There are 4 that Aimee works with : Feeling from the 2nd chakra- Creative Sensual– when you feel the energy in a room. Clear audience, at the throat/5th Chakra- all about communication and sound. The Vibrational Muse. Where your intuition speaks to you, where you hear your own answers, or you hear other people’s thoughts. Clairvoyance, right behind your eyes, where your 6th chakra is- you can see the energy, but you don’t become it and you don’t become the emotion of it. She calls it the Sovereign Visionary. You can see a picture when someone is telling you something. The top of your head, your 7th Chakra- she calls it Wise Soul. You just know off the top of your head. Without reasoning you just know things to be true. We all have these 4 essences. There are more, but these are the ones Aimee works with. Even just thinking about the way in which we are connected to our essences, and listening to this podcast, will help us get more in touch with the essences. What do you need to do to get better in touch with our intuition? It’s an act of being mindful and aware and curious. When we start getting curious, it brings it out to the surface. When we feel tense or any emotion, stop and ask yourself why are you feeling that tension or emotion? Your body will start answering. Get curious with your senses. Follow the whispers you hear, and the butterflies you feel in your happy. Intuition is not always happy, because it’s about getting real. It’s work to peel the layers and we start to face whether what we believe in is our own belief. We start to discover what is real to us and what it is not real. It will lead to a happy place, but the journey may not be a comfortable journey. How many times have you said “I knew it”? These are the times when we know a feeling that came within us was real. We can learn to read this more and act upon it to make real decisions. When we meditate we are making a statement to yourself into the world, we start to connect inward and learning to determine if what we are feeling is real or if it’s fear or noise. It’s a practice. The more we do it, the more we can get better at it. One quick exercise to recognize if it’s intuition or noise. Ask yourself “does this feel expansive or contractive”? Does it feel like your emotion is making you feel expansive and excited? Or, does it make your body contractive and tense? Tips for women with a lot of noise on their mind Stop and feel your feet on the ground. Recognize that right here right now, your feet are connected to the earth. That will help you get connected to the moment. Creates a dialogue between body and spirit and brings you back in. Breathing. Taking 3 to 10 deep breaths. Feel your breath first and see if it’s in its natural rhythm. Imagine what color your emotion is. You may see it, feel it or hear it. The moment we give it a color, we start to disconnect from the emotion and create separation from it. Our energy systems are like sponges and we absorb a lot of other energy, and we will take on other people’s stresses. The body gets overwhelmed, and when that happens, that is all we can here. The body is like a child, and us as the parent, need to guide it. How to learn to trust your intuition We learn the hard way many times; we ignore it and pay the consequences later. This is when we say “I knew it” and “I should’ve listened to myself”. The more we listen to it and act on it, the louder it gets. This is a relationship we have within ourselves. How do you really understand what your heart desires are? Feel your body emotions. How does your body react when you see something, or hear something. Does it make you feel expansive or contractive? Try a fun exercise: Make a vision board on Pinterest with images of what you want in the next five years or whatever an occasion is. Those images that make you feel happy…that’s what you should be doing. Aimee’s 3 Habits to Ensure Her Own Journey Meditation Healthy eating Physical movement CELEBRATING MEN, SATISFYING WOMEN! This week on Food, Sex & Life for the Modern Woman…Living Primal Podcast, we are interviewing Menno Henselmans. We are talking all things weightlifting and nutrition for women. He’s super geeky (in a great way ;-)) and uses only evidence based data to backup his training and nutrition protocols for weightlifting, healthy eating plans, losing weight and burning belly fat. Differences Between Men and Women in Weightlifting and Nutrition Much of the discussion revolves around the differences and advantages women have on weightlifting over men, and some of the things we as ladies should know to fully take advantage of these evidence based data to fully reap the benefits, sculpt our bodies and achieve our full healthy living potential. Differences aren’t huge between men and women in lifting weights. The fundamental principles still apply. But there are a a couple key metabolic and physiological ones to take into account: Women have higher estrogen levels- making women a lot more resistant to muscle damage and are able to recover faster after training. Women can generally take stronger and more frequent weight training than men. Women respond better with higher rep sets and can usually do 2 sessions per body part per week. Cadence for optimal performance for women is lower than men. Women don’t really need to count their reps, but focus on intuition with a bit of explosive movement. Weight vs. Cardio Menno’s proposed protocol for ladies for weight training vs. cardio will depend highly on each individual women. Their existing level of training and how much time they’re willing to put into it will play a role. So there is no one size fits all protocol he follows. He goes into some detail between steady state cardio vs. HIIT, and explains how most women’s bodies prefer steady state cardio (if any cardio is included at all) over HIIT because women have a more difficult time recovering from explosive movements. His recommended steady state cardio exercises are either cycling, rowing or swimming because they are low impact. Although swimming in cold water increases appetite and when you’re trying to loose weight and burn fat that may not be ideal. Runners tend to have high levels of cortisol which interferes with muscle building, so running and jogging is not recommended. You’ll notice that cyclers have a much different physique composition than runners. Many runners start their running career with weight loss in mind. But if you’re looking to look and feel great in a bikini and improve your physique, weight lifting will have the best effect on the body. Cardio is highly overrated and used mainly for calorie expenditure. It is not necessary, unless you enjoy it. And if it’s the runners high you enjoy, weight lifting will also provide some of that feeling in addition to having a higher calorie expenditure than cardio. Nutrition and Carb Tolerance Menno goes over the nutrition protocol, and general macro nutrient breakdown he recommends for women. He also discusses how he tests for carb tolerance ( (the extent to which the body benefits from carbs) when he first begins working with women on a training and nutrition protocol. General nutrition protocol for women on a 2,000 calorie diet: 1.8 g/kg (0.82 g/lb) of protein per day 40% of calories from fat the balance of the calories if there are any left, should be from carbs. Women react very well to high fat diets and their ability to build muscle mass. Ketogenic is a plus if your body can take it. Working Out While Traveling- Tips for Success Planning. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Smart food choices can also mean not eating. You don’t have to eat if all there is available in that moment is junk. You can wait until a smarter food choice is available. Occasional fasting for up to 24 hours is fine. Us the hotel gym, or if there is no gym available, bodyweight exercises are very easy to do in a hotel room. Take resistance bands with you in your suitcase, do pushups and leg exercises. If you want to connect with a man ask him what he’s focused on; what is important to him now. Some of the ways we can get to know our sons is asking what they’re focused on. Women crave intimacy and they don’t know that men crave intimacy as well. And intimacy has everything to do with being seen. Ask the question: how can I support you? It means EVERYTHING to them. For men, there is a limitation to energy, time, resources, connections, respect, everything. Whereas women don’t think we have limits especially in energy. So everything is about a return on investment to men. This is confusing to women because we try to get men to do the things women want them to do. It’s frustrating because women don’t realize men aree calculating ROI. Men will calculate what is the value of the result…not what needs to get done, but the value of what needs to get done. If they do something for you, what else will they not do? What time, energy and other resources will be used up? “What difference will it make?” is what men ask themselves to decide if something is worth doing. How do we come together with men? Alison is getting us the latest and greatest on this! She just filmed the latest on her Queen’s Code workshop and this is some of the info in it! Both men and women think their view of the world is correct…forever. Men actually need to do nothing to build testosterone and keep the energy to go out and conquer the world. So do nothing, sit on the couch, sleep and have nothing to do. It’s a cycle of building and spending testosterone. If we don’t honor it, our man will feel weak to us, and women will sense this weakness and we will feel burdened and feared. We will question if we need this man in our life, and it will happen if we don’t let him build and spend his testosterone as it is mean to be. Can you see the vicious cycle? What we need to do is honor our differences instead of expecting the other to be like us! When we see him sitting on the couch, we need to find that sexy. We as women putter around the house, put things away and do everything we want to do, and we give ourselves a deadline. And we become a better me when we’re done. We keep trying to get men to do things to be like they should be. We keep trying to get them to invest in zero ROI. Not going to happen! To women who think we have unlimited energy and time, if it gets us to zero ROI, it’s OK for us women. Men don’t believe on acting on feelings. They are an insufficient motivators for them. Men spend their whole lives training themselves to not act on feelings, but facts. Facts are observable, feelings are not. Facts are information from trusted sources. Becoming a trusted source is the game in interacting with men in all contexts!! How does this happen? This is the SECRET ladies!! The short version is how you become a trusted source is when the words and the feelings match. And this is what they are incredibly sensitive to. If you say thank you and they don’t feel the appreciation, that is insincere to them and it will not register. To become your man’s trusted source, to get to the source of their sensitivity: Say what you mean and mean what you say. Consistency. When we change our mind, we erode their trust. It’s best to say we can’t answer their question at the moment, or we have not decided, than to blurt something out just to change our mind later. Listen in on our amazing interview with Alison. Successful, smart and ready for love? Then listen in now! We often times think, WHY is it that men are wonderful in the beginning and then change? What if we told you that men are responding to women? This episode is for all the ladies out there who want to understand men. But before we understand men, we have to understand ourselves! We had an A-MA-ZING time chatting with Alison Armstrong, author of The Queen’s Code. In this episode you will learn how to shift your perspective, cherish yourself and learn relationship tools for smart and successful women. This is part 1 of a 2 part series with Alison Armstrong. Let’s start with women, so we can understand ourselves. In next week’s show, we will talk about how to succeed in love and the secrets to have men say “there is something special about her”. As women, we can use understanding ourselves, to understand men. The biggest mistake that women make is that we dishonor ourselves. We are so instinctually compelled to be pleasing and appealing and agreeable and likeable in order to survive, that we sell ourselves out all the time. This is where we will start. Alison did not intend to “understand women” in her journey, but it happened in the process. And then men started begging for her help to help them understand women. They so want to connect with us. They adore us and are mystified by us. We are magic creatures to them, and we can absolutely drive them crazy and bring out the worst in them. Part of the confusion is that every woman is at least 2 woman, and potentially 4. I think most of us probably already knew this If we’re a morning person or an evening person….that’s one of our personas. It’s a different mood, and mindset and we take experiences depending on that mood. Then our hormones levels determine who another persona is, as it has a tremendous effect on our emotions. Perimenopause and menopause bring out different personas in us. So we grow through different stages of “women” throughout our days and our entire lives. Depending on how much estrogen we have, will determine how quickly we can switch out our system, the hunter operating system or the gathering operating system. Women are both hunters and gatherers and we can switch from one to the other in a moment’s notice, depending on how we’re perceiving the world. Effects everything we think, do and speak without even realizing we’ve switched over. What determines what system we’re in is whether or not we are committed or uncommitted. What matters is our intention on a specific result, specific goal, destination, feeling, etc. that fires up the hunter operating system. It’s a system that is committed and focused and usually has a deadline attached to it. Both men and women hunt. Most men AND women are in hunting mode most of the time. Women try to be everything, to be perfect at it all. Whereas men tend to focus on their strengths. Women’s success in business has everything to do with our learning to be a part of a team and respecting other’s people roles in that team, instead of trying to do it all ourselves. This is when we’re in hunting mode. We are focused, build on people’s strengths and have deadlines. How do we switch from being in hunter mode to being in gatherer mode when we go home from work? Part of hunting mode is deciding what other people need and going about providing in without checking. A part of being a mom is being a hunter, because there are deadlines involved. In gatherer mode time shifts. It’s a natural and spiritual connection that happens. We see and feel things, and this is when men describe women as magical. This right here…is the key! To have the best relationships, we have to start with you first. Honor yourself first, then honor others. How do you define your best self? How much am I a better person when I’m in gathering mode? And how can I bring the gatherer to the workplace? Let’s build gathering mode into our day…plan for something to take twice as long as it usually should so we can take the time to connect with the man in our life. It needs to be decided who is the biggest and strongest in a relationship, and that person should lead. But we may not agree who that person is. And this is where the conflict comes in. That’s why getting on the same page is so important. In next week’s podcast episode, we will discuss understanding men. But before we do that, make sure to take the time to listen to this episode a few times and take in Alison’s information. This only graces the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Alison’s work and to get a full understanding of who you are as a woman, and a full understanding of men, so ultimately, you can have the best relationship. If you are interested in fully understanding yourself and/or understanding men, we HIGHLY recommend Alison’s programs. Jennifer has taken her course a couple of years ago and it transformed her life. *For the month of August, we are bringing back our most popular episodes to date* On today’s episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman, we welcome Dr. William Davis to talk about why we’re seeing so many everyday diseases and conditions, how grains have changed from what they were only decades ago, how these are contributing to our health (or lack thereof), and how to regain control of our health. Dr. Davis is author of the newly released book Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You And How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor. Feeling exhausted? Icky? Gaining inexplicable weight? Maybe there’s a mineral imbalance. In today’s podcast episode, Wendy Myers talks about minerals and mineral hair analysis. How to detox the metals in the body and how to begin the mineral restoration process. Tune in for her supplement recommendations and some very interesting information about the water we are showering ourselves in daily! The 101 on Minerals Most people are mineral deficient in magnesium, zinc and selenium. If you’re taking a multivitamin, it may not be enough or the right form to be absorbed into the body. Even organic food is mineral deficient. The soil and pesticides are killing the minerals in our food. Stressors, emotional, nutrition, EMF contribute to nutrient deficiencies. When we think about our supplements we really need to focus on minerals because they power our body. How do we figure out what minerals we’re missing? #1 Start taking magnesium. Will most likely need to take it separately from a multivitamin. Wendy goes over which types of magnesium we need. Avoid magnesium oxide…it’s garbage! It has about a 4% absorption rate. We need about 5 times our body weight in pounds, in milligrams. If you way 200 lbs. you need 1,000 mg of magnesium. A multi-mineral is great. Oceans Alive Marine Phytoplankton is what Wendy takes because it has a good absorption rate and has amino acids, omega 3 fats and 180 nutrients in addition to all the minerals. Iodine and selenium are big deficiencies. Iodine being the 2nd most common deficiency. And selenium is much needed to support the thyroid. Mercury toxicity is one of the main reasons for low thyroid function. We actually need both iodine and selenium for proper thyroid function. What Contributes to Mercury Toxicity? Coal burning. The fossil fuel burning to keep our lights on, releases mercury into the air. The toxic air settles into the ocean and gets into our food. Mercury is also in the air because of burning bodies in crematoriums. Mercury amalgam fillings, get them out of your mouth! How can we detox some of the bad minerals out of our body? You have to know your source. Test your water for metals. All the water in California has uranium. Get a water filter. People are drinking filtered water, but they don’t think about what they’re showering in. Iron toxicity is a big problem. Refined flours are enriched with iron. Carbs, white breads, can promote high sugar levels and diabetes, and interfere with pancreatic function. Minerals also detox metals. Minerals help the body function better, but some minerals will help pushout metals from the body. Zinc helps to detox aluminum, cadmium, copper and mercury and nickel. Selenium helps to detox arsenic, cadmium and mercury and silver. Magnesium is amazing to detox many metals. This is why she calls her program Mineral Power. We need a highly absorbable nutrient. It doesn’t matter what we take, it matters what we absorb. What is hair mineral analysis? Wendy likes to start with a hair mineral analysis because it gives her a good idea of stress levels, adrenal functioning, thyroid function, and mineral levels in the body. This will give her most of the information she needs to individualize a mineral detox program. Also likes to do a urine and stool test. What can be expected from a mineral program and detox? She first recommends a couple of products for detoxing. Will then recommend best products for each patient based on their health history and metals in their body. Will retest in about 6 months. Course correct and adjust based on new results. Also likes to do infrared saunas, and coffee enemas have helped Wendy in how she feels. Lots of ideas on her website on Loving Your Liver, aside from coffee enemas Taking milk thistle is paramount if you have fatty liver. Liver Life she recommends to her clients. Sweat out toxic with infrared sauna. Reduce sugar, fine grains and alcohol to be good on your liver. How do we start a mineral program? Just start taking a higher end multivitamin (not Costco or drugstore or grocery store). Get them online or at a good health food store. Pure Formula Multi Vitamin/Mineral is a good one and Liveto110.com has a lot of good ones. Also start taking the Oceans Alive Marine Phytoplankton. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. You will receive access for instant downloading. In today’s podcast episode, we explore the inner world of movement and unconscious intentions in your body. How does that show up? Explore the relationship of what is going on in your body and what is going on in your mind. Katie Hendricks talks body intelligence with us. Cutting edge information you’ll want to know more about. “The way to change your mind, is to change your body.” – Katie Hendricks What is body intelligence? Body Intelligence is opening up to this vast interspace that we have in our bodies that is just as vast as the consciousness in our minds. We now know that our consciousness doesn’t just exist in our mind. We have a gut brain as well. An intuition. We are all oriented from the outside in. We want approval from others on how we look and how we act, and how others see us. The messages that come from the outside. But we rarely pay attention to the messages we are getting from the inside. Explore your inner yes and your inner no. This comes from your body. This is your feeling flow and your intuition. The intuition comes from your body, not from your mind. If you change your posture, it has more power than a whole lot of prescription drugs. Body intelligence allows you to be more in touch with yourself. Your body intelligence thrives when you are able to give it non-judgmental attention. What are the first steps you’re teaching people to get in touch with their body intelligence? Go ahead and notice something going on in your body right now. Then she’ll notice to how they react to that. And the key move is to bring the awareness inside our body, rather than looking at ourselves from the outside in. Look at the shape of it, its texture, its color…from the inside. Then she’ll have their hands paint or sculpt, match their inner sensation. Or she’ll have them notice their breathing. If they’re in any kind of distress it’s going to change the flow of movement and the flow of breathing. This happens in relationships when there’s conflict. 4 Fear Melters When we’re in fear: flee, freeze, flight or faint, we are not able to be present in life. We’re more reactive out of a fear state, where we consider others our enemies, including our bodies. We don’t want our body to feel out of control and embarrass us. Katie teaches us to be more in touch with ourselves to jump start our alignment so we get out of our cage. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. Molly Kroeker starter her career in skincare having spent many years exposed to the sun. Not a better time to have this conversation than in the heat of this summer. In today’s podcast, Molly talks to us about what you need to know about skincare, what is the basic regime to follow, what ingredients are a MUST to avoid, how to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and achieve a healthy glow, and what are the current skincare trend do’s and don’ts. Did you know that you should start wearing eye cream at the age of 13? Neither did we. Listen in for great info on how to take care of the skin your face and your entire body. “Skincare Trends- The Hots and the Nots” What do we need to know about skincare? Before hitting the pillowcase take your make up off. And in the morning, take your pillowcase off! People need to know what ingredients to look for on the back of the bottle. This is where we need to start. Avoid these ingredients: -Parabens make product last 20 to 30 years. There are many types. Three of the top ones are in Cetaphil, and methyl paraben is one of the biggest one you’ll see out there. -Propyl Glycol (anti-freeze) is in most products. -Mineral oil- has many names. It’s a carcinogenic a byproduct of petroleum. It’s allowed in the US but banned in European guidelines. What you put on your skin is absorbed in 26 seconds. How to Maintain a Youthful Glow Cleanser- you need a cleanser that will remove dirt and makeup, for both men and women. When you rinse off the cleanser you want to keep the skin PH balance. If you just soap and water, you’re leaving your face in an alkaline space because soap is highly alkalined. That’s why we need a toner. Toner- to restore PH of skin back to a 5.5, with no alcohol in it. Eye cream- start using it when you’re 13. Dot it on the orbital bone you feel below your eye. Don’t touch beneath your eye or pull on it. Moisturize- use a day moisturizer, it’s your protector. Use one with SPF in it. At night you need something that is going to correct your skin, so it replenishes the water you lose during the day. Facial serums are an added punch. They’re typically more expensive than the other items, but they do the most work for wrinkles and lines on our face. How to wash your face? Keep the product on your hand and don’t put it on a washcloth because you lose a lot of product. Get a little bit of water and little circles all over your face. Just rinse it off with a cheap wash cloth, it helps exfoliate when you wash. What if you work out? Twice a week use an exfoliator to remove the skin cells and the sweat. Sweat is a toxin. It’s good to do even if you don’t work out and sweat. Something with microbeads. Nothing that will scratch your face. Can we erase wrinkles, or minimize them? In a natural way, a lot of products will minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, so that you do not see them. They usually have a stable form of Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. This is a really hot product in skin care right now. Trends in skincare: The bad: Injectables are being used at a very young age…teens and early 20s! They’re quick to jump on the bandwagon of different things. Diet has a huge impact on our skin, so go that route. Tanning bed usage is huge, don’t do it! Over exfoliating is also being abused. Use it twice a week, not twice a day. The good: Anything with hyaluronic acid. Orange stem cells. Skincare For Your Entire Body…Lotions! The bad: For your entire body, watch out for lotions with parabens, and propyl gylcol, Sodium laureth sulfate. The sun, stay out of it and use protection. Smoking. Even if you say you don’t smoke, the rest of us can tell if you do. The good: Exfoliate your skin twice a week. Make sure they’re natural. Drink half your body weight in water. Superfoods improves the appearance of your skin like avocados, berries, kale, spinach and mangoes. Helps your skin glow more. After washing use a body oil with a moisturizer in it. Hacks for Beautiful Skin for a Big Event or Photo Shoot: For dark circles: lots of water, something with kojic acid and Vitamin K…and LOTS of water! Did we mention, lots of water? Glowing face, something with a stable form of vitamin A, or retinol, or peptides, or orange stem cells or hyaluronic acid. If you can find a European company with very few ingredients, you’ve got a good product. Molly’s 3 Habits to Ensure Her Health Journey Drink half your weight in water daily. Put it in your fridge so you remember. Sleep. It is SO important. Eat nutrient dense food. Eat the color of the rainbow and as much green as possible in the morning. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. We have to disconvenience ourselvess to make change. Like not eating donuts for breakfast every morning. Change can happen in the moment. Who can use HumanOS? People that are not trying to solve a specific problem right now. These are better-agers. Trying to age gracefully and keep the performance they currently have. There’s motivation to do well. They are optimizers- these are people that care to perform well in activity or mentally or both. They are trying to optimize their experience with new techniques. And then there’s people that want to make a change, like lose weight. They are not at the weight they want to be and have a motivation to make change. And people who have been diagnosed with something and have an immediate pain. For example someone who has diabetes and wants to find a way to eliminate that pain. Create Lasting Behavior Change There are great direction followers. People who are like that are very good at following direction and getting something done. They’ll get results, but results will not last because they didn’t’ develop a habit, they followed direction. The other group of people are those who learned along the way. They took a good understanding of the subject they were covering. Those people become independent and knowledgeable. This is what we all want. In Dan’s courses, they try to persuade people to understand the subject and believe that it is the right way. And then give people a clear path to get the results. As well as getting feedback from the users. They also take into account failure, because failure is a part of everything and it needs to be built in. Food, Movement and Sleep For Sleep: Dan encourages people to aim to get complete sleep. Means you’re waking naturally, because you’re getting enough sleep. That’s a goal. Maintain lights off at night because it determines our circadium rhythm. How much light we get will determine how much sleep we get and how restorative it is. Dimming nights in the evening will help. For Exercise: The best guidance to determine what level of physical activity we need is from the Department of Health and Human Services which put out a weekly exercise recommendation. They’re created by an advisory committee of experts every 8 years. They analyze all the literature that has come out. The next time the committee gets together there will be a whole slew of new information. We also know that just sitting too much is not good. We need to get up and move, low intensity. If it’s easy and simple, more people will do it. We do need to incorporate intensity to maintain muscle. For nutrition: This is challenging. But we do know a lot by trying to eat whole, fresh foods, and portion control. You will go a long way by consuming the fewest items out of a package. We want to avoid refined and over processed foods. And to have plant substances, fiber, and phytonutrients, the compounds that come out of these plants. They help cure our bodies in very complex ways. Dan’s 3 Habits to Ensure His Health Journey: InTune training: integrative and opportunistic training. Movement can happen anywhere. 10-20 minute sunlight exposure on skin. Sleep routine, including using his chilipad. Julie Rehmeyer was so sick she sometimes couldn’t turn over in bed. The top specialists in the world were powerless to help, and scientific research on her disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, was at a near standstill. Having learned from a total stranger that mold may be the culprit, she took a leap of faith, drove into the desert to avoid mold completely and began her journey to wellness. An incredible story that will give us all hope in our own journey to wellness. By avoiding mold completely, Julie will be at almost 100%. But as you can imagine, it is difficult to avoid mold all the time. There seems to be genetic susceptibility to mold. But is also a culmination of things: living in old travel trailers, was pushing her body really hard in the process of building her house where there probably was exposure to mold, stress due to her husband’s illness and other factors. Yet, her genetic susceptibility made it worse. Once you get sick, your susceptibility for it goes up significantly. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome- What Is It And How Do You Get Diagnosed? The name doesn’t capture the severity of the illness. One of the criteria is exercise intolerance. Being chronically fatigued the day after working out. Important to rest up and relax. If it doesn’t go away, there may be CFS present. If you can’t think straight, your heart rate goes up when you stand up, and high blood pressure, these could be symptoms. What do you do if you have these symptoms? First of all, don’t overdo it. Most doctors won’t suggest that. You have to learn to stop as soon as you feel tired, and not push through. If you learn to pace yourself when you have relatively mild symptoms, you have a better chance of recovering. Go to your doctor, recognize that most doctors know almost nothing about this disease. So you have to be cautious about what most practitioners have to say about it. Resources for ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome The greatest wisdom is in the patient community. You need to be careful and vet everything. What works for someone else may not necessarily work for you. Pay attention to what you read, pay attention to your body and experiment carefully. Some suggested resources: Paradigmchange.me which offers information about the role of mold toxins in chronic illness. Phoenix Rising Forum– online community for ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Follow Julie Rehmeyer on Facebook– you can learn from other people’s experiences and comments. Facebook- find groups, more informal setting. Mold- What Should We Know And What To Avoid Not all molds are dangerous. Cheese is made out of mold, and clearly not dangerous to our well-being the way CFS is. Mold is a stand in word. Mold grows on drywall and insulation. Mold produces toxins and spores that end up in the air. There’s bacterial and compounds in air and water damaged buildings. There is mold in all of that, that creates a reaction in people, but there isn’t enough information to pin point which one created her illness. We know that if there’s mold in your house, you have to get rid of it. Unfortunately, you can’t say there’s no mold in your house if you can’t see it so that’s not what’s making you sick. You’ll need to do a big experiment to get rid of mold, to see if over time that is what was affecting you. The only way you’re going to do this is if you’re really ill and nothing else makes sense. There are relatively standard tests your doctor can run to determine if mold is an issue for you. Julie’s Book: Through The Shadowlands When she got really sick, it became urgent to her that she needed to write a book about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with her experience and other people’s experience. In the process of eliminating mold, all her experience led to a book that became a personal memoir. It’s a book that even if you don’t have CFS will be a good read. Along the lines of Eat, Pray, Love…it’s a fun beach read. Aside from being a great story, has a lot of information and ends in a love story. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. Michelle Chalfant talks to us about the many benefits of meditation, including learning to love ourselves. Join our 66 Day Meditation Challenge on our private FSLModern Community, absolutely FREE. How do You Start to Love Yourself? Michelle’s model called The Adult Chair, a model that teaches people to love themselves. It’s a timeline. From 0-6 years old we live in our Child Chair where we learn feelings (sadness, happiness, etc) and needs (hugs, to hear I love you, etc.) and we learn vulnerability, passion and intimacy. Around 6-7 years old we move into the Adolescent Chair, where the ego comes in and tells us it’s separate from us. It’s based on fear and we learn about telling stories and assumptions. We live in the past and the future, not the present. We learn about control, blame and we use words like “You’re always like that” and “you’re never like this” , this is where codependency, control, narcissism, etc. comes in. We’re reactive. Around 25 years old, if we had parenting modeling to teach us how to process feelings and live authentically, we tap into our Adult Chair. But most of us have some sort of dysfunction and don’t quite know how to land in this Adult Chair. Michelle’s model is about learning to live in this Adult Chair. We learn to set boundaries, have passion, live authentically and tune into our child and adolescent to figure out what is going on and make decisions from our adult, our higher self. The model gives people a framework of where they’re at. It’s something that needs to be practiced over time and is absolutely life changing. To learn more about The Adult Chair model, download Michelle’s FREE ebook The Adult Chair: A Guide to What are the Benefits of Meditation? Meditation helps us to slow down. The more we have to do, the more we have to slow down to get things done. It seems to not make sense, but it works. “Meditations helps us to become observers of the mind”- Michelle Chalfant Benefits of meditation: Process things in a new way Slow down Helps us land in our Adult Chair Find peace Physical and emotional pain relief Insomnia Lower blood pressure Balance in our life 5 Minute Self Love Guided Meditation Michelle’s most popular guide meditation helps people in slowing down, bringing in light and love into the body, most people report physical and emotional pain relief, a huge sense of peace, self-love they’ve never felt before, clearing thoughts and beliefs that are not loving, and some people even cry because it’s such a contrast to how they talk to themselves. To meditate on your own, just close your eyes and breathe. Set a timer so your ego doesn’t get scared that you’ll meditate for 3 hours, and just be. Watch your thoughts go by and just let them go. You need to practice to be an observer of your thoughts. Over time and practice (just like going to the gym), you become better at it. Meditation can be done anywhere. Preferably sitting, because laying down people tend to fall asleep. It becomes a sacred time for people. Michelle meditates outdoors every morning. When it’s cold, she sets incense indoors and asks those around her to not interrupt. Can be done outdoors during a walk, and it’s about listening to the birds, looking at nature, and being present in that moment and taking deep breaths. Jen Springer talks to us about thyroid dysfunction and just how easy it is for thyroid related conditions to be completely overlooked by your doctor. Listen in to learn how to be your own advocate, what to read, what labs to request, finding a practitioner that will help you and get back to feeling like YOU again! What are the signs of thyroid dysfunction? Weight gain Hair thinning Always cold, hands and feet are always cold Eyebrows are thinning from outer edge If you stick out your tongue it looks swollen, or has ridges where the teeth press against it Body temperature below 96 degrees Candida, yeast overgrowth Adrenal Fatigue Hormone challenges over the course of time Anxiety and panic attacks Mood changes Blood sugar challenges What Steps Do We Take To Find Out If We’re Having Problems With Our Thyroid? Most doctors will only order a TSH which will not give you a complete picture of the thyroid function. Those patients that request more labs from their family doctor will most likely end up arguing with them, as it is not something they do on a regular basis, nor is it how they’re trained to look at thyroid function. Minimally we need to run a labs on TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. T3 is the hormone that does all the work in the body. Without knowing what Free T3 is doing, we know nothing. It’s also important to look at Reverse T3, Reverse T4, TPO and AB antibodies, to find out if there’s any autoimmunity going on in the body. These are just the basics. Jen talks about other labs she likes to look at to get a complete picture, including sex hormone panel. Look for a Practitioner That Will Help You Ask them for the labs listed above and ask them how they treat thyroid. If they can read those lab results and treat thyroid with nutrition, thyroid supplementation, you will be able to tell if this is a practitioner that can really help you. Functional medical doctors, chiropractors and naturopaths are good options to look at. How to Get Your Thyroid Back to Optimal Health Read good books on the subject. See below for her recommended books. Be careful when you read a lot about the thyroid because it’s very doom and gloom and it can be easy to get down. But it’s easy to treat with nutrition and supplementation. It can be reversed quickly. Gentle and moderate exercise is important to regulate estrogen production to regulate T3 hormone. Stretching and walking to start and once your hormones are under control, bring in some strength building. Low GI Tracker is a great app for keeping track of low GI foods. Don’t eat anything over 55. Jen goes over the various supplements that will help the thyroid function. Thyroid Replacement Some people do well on synthetic thyroid. Natural desiccated thyroid gland is preferred. Any type of thyroid replacement is going to replace what the thyroid would normally make. After taking the natural replacement for a while, the pituitary will know to pick up its production of thyroid hormone in some people. If this happens, those people can cut down. Others can’t. Karyn Garossino, former Olympic Figure Skater is just what we needed on the podcast to help move us forward in any goal we might have. We’ve discussed over physical fitness at length on the podcast, but today we will focus on mental fitness. Karyn talks to us about building mental fitness and resilience. This podcast episode is POWERFUL! Her successes did not make her resilient. Her challenges made her resilient. Listen in to find out how those very challenges we experience are building us up for success. How to Build Resilience You can’t buy it. It’s something you must build. You need to take the challenges that come up in life, whether it’s in family, business, school or friendships and take those experiences and save them as learning opportunities. This is where mental fitness comes in. How Do We Build Mental Fitness? It’s about withstanding the negative things that come our way. Not so much about withstanding the hurt, because it is real to feel the hurt, we’re only humans. Part of this mental fitness and resilience is to be able to recover. Component parts of building mental fitness: It’s asking why. Afterall, our guest’s name is Karyn with a Y!! When you are really scared, and connecting with that fear, one of the mental skills of resilience is to turn your attention on the why you’re doing this. What does this mean to you? What values are you honoring? What contribution are you bringing to the world in this? What are the things that you most look forward to? This is the skill area of focus. This is where you choose to put your attention. Then ask, does the fear serve me? Create an image in your head of where you want to be 1 to 2 years from now, and pull that image in your head every time chaos and stress are increasing and you’re getting busier daily. The hardest thing you can do, is work hard and simply plot your feet one in front of the other. When you have your vision in your head that is a clear mental image of you in the future, you will be drawn to it even through all the obstacles, whether you go through it, over it or around it. It becomes your conveyor belt. So create your visual image!!! You can create a vision board with images, or words and engrain it in your head every time you feel the stress and obstacles coming your way. Rather than a situation controlling the outcome, you control your own outcome. If you can practice the way you want to execute a skill with mental imagery and play it out in your mind, you will be far more successful in actually implementing it. The more we do this, the more we will be able to do it. Karyn’s 3 Habits to Build Resilience Stay connected with the people that you care about. Social relationship quality. Quotes for inspiration. Dr. Z talks to us about how to use essential oils and live the abundance life. He goes over the ailments that can be treated, how all the “smells” in our surroundings are creating havoc in our bodies and how to get started with a natural essential oil practice. If you’re not yet using essential oils in your everyday life, this episode is an eye opener. Listen in for his DIY natural and safe hand sanitizer and home freshener recipes. The 101 on Essential Oils How can essential oils help us? Even though they’re extracted from nature, you’re not going to see a puddle of oils in nature. However, you will smell it on roses, and other particles in the air that trigger the nose and let the brain know there is something there. There is huge component of safety when it comes to essential oils. It takes a lot of extraction to get our current essential oils. These are chemicals that can heal and make us feel better. There is no nutrition or minerals, but do have antioxidant properties. These are the particles God put in nature to help us heal. The sky is the limit on the types of essential oils available. One drop of oil has the ability to ward off disease and heal, but it needs to be used as any other medicine and not tamper with it. There is a safety factor to using them, and like with any medicine, you can get hurt if not used properly. How to Use Essential Oils and When Anything that is smelled or has a flavor, has an essential oil in it, whether synthetic or natural. Body care products, food, home fragrance, candles, etc. Antibacterial soaps and products (hand sanitizers) are thyroid hormone disrupters. All the chemicals around us are affecting every aspect of our life. To get started, it’s a matter of replacing the fake stuff with the real stuff. Stop the aerosols and plugins because they’re harmful to our health, leading to cancer, auto immunity, Alzheimer’s, etc. If you smell it, it will get into your body. Everything can be replaced with natural essential oil products. Steps to get started with essential oils Dr. Z is a big proponent of DIY with essential oils. Home air freshener DIY: Throw away the bad stuff and start to replace them one by one. Start with hand sanitizers and aerosoles. Get a diffuser for aromatherapy for your home. Use energizing scents in the morning, like citrus. Use relaxing scents at night like lavender. It’s not easy, it does need to become a habit. The truly natural way of life takes time. But it will be the most rewarding way of life. Hand sanitizer DIY: 1 oz. glass spritzer bottle Add a few drops of alcohol free witch hazel Add a couple drops of aloe Add a couple drops of vitamin E Add 10 drops of essential oils per ounce (pick your scent!) Fill up with water Types of Ailments that can be Helped with Essential Oils Alzheimer’s and weight loss and everything in between. Lime disease diabetes, stress, hypertension, anxiety, gut health, IBS…almost everything. If it’s a major disease and millions are affected by it, it can be treated with essential oils. Gut Health and Essential Oils What kinds of oils would help with leaky gut? There’s only a couple ways to get the essential oils there. Peppermint is the gut oil. But you can’t just put it in your mouth. You need an enteric coated capsule (peppermint, fennel). You take it orally, it goes through your system and won’t start to deteriorate until it gets to your large intestine and the essential oil gets delivered where it needs to be. The other way is topical application. Oils penetrate through the blood stream. If you massage the oil like lavender with a carrier, it will get delivered throughout your entire body within 20 minutes and will be completely metabolized within 4 to 5 hours. Unlike drugs that will never really get completely metabolized in your body. For leaky gut, you can create a massage oil with almond or jojoba, add 3% dilution , and rub it over your tummy. It will penetrate. This is amazing. You always want to dilute for safety reasons. They can burn your skin and the body can become allergic to an essential oil, helps prevent evaporation of the oil, and it will be wasteful. You need a carrier oil to apply it. Dilution rule of thumb- use jojoba 6 drops of essential oil per ounce. 1% is safe for the face and for babies. Boost it up to 3% (18 drops) to 5% (30 drops) max for medicinal purposes. How to Get a Quality Essential Oil This is difficult because you don’t know until you test it. Up to 75% of oils on the market have either been diluted, is synthetic or mislabeled. Dr. Z won’t recommend a brand. He uses several. He created a blog on his website “How to Choose an Essential Oil Brand“. There are several out there that have good quality oils. Get a starter kit from different brands and start testing them, smell them, see how your body reacts when you apply it topically, have your friends and family try them and make your choice. One of our choices at FSL is AnneMarie Pure Essential Oils Sample Kit. We’ve used it and enjoy it! But you’ll need to follow Dr. Z’s instructions to choose an essential oil brand. Dr. Z’s 3 Habits to Ensure His Health Forgiveness- forgive yourself first and foremost if you eat something that you shouldn’t Develop habits- when times get tough, then you’ll always fall back to the habits. Love yourself and others.
On today’s episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern Woman, we welcome Dr. If you have ever had a day where you were so busy, meeting to meeting, non-stop, fast forward to the end of the day and you ask “Did I really get anything done?” …if that is you, listen in on this interview with Geoff Woods from The One Thing. He discusses how can we become more accountable to ourselves and Time Blocking to reach our ultimate goal. We need to learn to take control of our time…our most important resource. But most of us have not been taught how to. Time Block is the act of scheduling time with yourself to do your most important work. We all know how to make and protect our important appointments like doctor appointments. But we have a very hard time scheduling time with ourselves and protecting it, turning off ALL distractions and interruptions. When you look at the coming week, what are you big rock? What absolutely has to happen? When you set ONE goal that you need to get done and just focus on it, it will get done. Identify what your ultimate goal is. What do you need to accomplish in 5 years to accomplish your ultimate goal? What do you need to accomplish in 1 year to accomplish your 5 year goal? What do you need to accomplish this month to be on track for your 1 year goal? What do you need to accomplish this week to be on track for this month’s goal? What do you need to accomplish today to be on track for this week’s goal? It’s encouraged not to make your goal a financial goal. One goal, 3 priorities, 5 strategies. That’s your ONE thing. “When you chase 2 rabbits you end up catching none of them.” Time Blocking Think big, but start small. Go into a place where you can be undisturbed and not get up to do anything. No bathroom break, no coffee break, no answering calls, no distractions…nothing else. Start with 5 minutes, or 15 minutes and expand from there. Get your most important stuff done first, then do other things. Start time blocking in one area first. Once, you’ve mastered one thing, you can add others. Start with business for example, and then family, working out, meditation, hobbies, etc. It takes on average 66 days to form a solid habit. So we could form a total of 5 solid habits in one year. Most people don’t form them because they take on too many going at one time….so again, let’s start with our ONE thing! This week we explore our mental state of mind, how we reached the point where we have our mean girl voice constantly talking to us, and how to tame it. Dr. Napatia Gettings talks to us about mental health. Seeking aid with our mental health is not a negative, it’s not about fixing something. It’s about being our best self, about being educated, and developing our fullest potential. The thoughts we have on a daily basis causes our emotions: fear, self-doubt, resistance, etc. On a daily basis when we have a self-dialogue, let’s be aware of that dialogue, and choose how we’re going to speak to ourselves. That conversation will be based on our upbringing, but we have the ability to reflect on it and evoke change as to how we speak to ourselves. We can be our own worst enemy. The man vs. woman hierarchy is a system we are living in and is built on comparison. We tend to compare ourselves daily and a way to pull ourselves from that is to accept individuality. We all have shortcomings, and we need to embrace that, and embrace everything that makes us a woman. Many of us don’t even realize the strengths we have. Comparison and the mold Social media plays a huge role in comparison and the mold. It can play a positive or negative role as to how we see ourselves. It h as thrown a huge curveball. We struggle with self-perception, but we don’t’ just compare ourselves to people at school anymore. It’s all day long. Adolescents place a lot of value on the expectation of what they should look like, and social media has created a huge avenue for bullying. Dr. Getting’s Social Media Best Practices Guide was created to help parents with the use of their children’s social media and help them navigate this through it. Young adults, and older people are also affected by what we see on social media and needs to be used responsibly and to our benefit, because it could be a positive thing too. Who doesn’t love to reconnect with grammar school friend?!! Tips for Breaking The Comparison Challenge We need to understand judgement, and adopt healthy perceptions about others. Dr. Gettings runs a conversation she calls Are you full of BS? What is your Belief System like? We judge others based on our own perception of ourselves!! This is huge! You are writing your own life story. What do you want it to say? What is that you’re grateful for? Put your intention to that. Visualize being in a room full of people and list the things you would hate to tell them about yourself. What are you ashamed of and why? How did it become an item of shame? Shaming and not being able to own your truth will completely clog your conscience. People take their lives over misperceptions. FSLers, let’s empower one another and build up each other’s strengths, so that we too can see and love the strengths and beautiful characteristics we bring to the table. On this episode of Food, Success & Life for the Modern women, Dr. John Dempster talks to us about aging gracefully and optimally. Anti-aging results start from within. With nutrition and not with fillers. Dr. Dempster discusses IV Vitamin Therapy, which is gaining popularity with the general public, and how it can help us age gracefully, perform better, recover quicker and live in optimal health. How can we age optimally? It needs to start within us. Anything we do to help our body avoid inflammation. Do a very through panel of tests and look specifically into the patient’s goals. But the first thing they work on is nutrition. What foods do to their body and what types of nutrients do they have. If nutrients are deficient over time the body will start breaking down over time. If someone is symptomatic, it can be reversed. What are general protocols for everyone? Every single listener can benefit by increasing amount of green leaf vegetables. North Americans are generally not getting their 10 servings of vegetables and fruits. They help detox the body, and is anti-inflammatory. That goes a long way to help us feel great, and look amazing and be around for many years ahead. Intravenous Therapies Food is medicine, and medicine is food. Even when someone is coming in for a vitamin IV program, they first start them up with nutrition and build up to the therapy. Many foods today are being stripped of their nutrients before we even get them. We also really need to make sure our body is absorbing the nutrients well, and most of us are not due to leaky gut and other gut health issues. So IV therapy is very effective for immediate absorption. IV Therapies help people with chronic diseases to feel better and avoid further conditions like heart disease and cancer. It is also being used by athletes to perform better and recover more rapidly, and want to be at their best. We are doing a lot more these days with our lives. We’re super busy, stressed out, sleeping less, taking less vacations, and all of this adds up. We should be concerned about what is going to happen to our generation. IV Therapy is not for everybody. What is the typical treatment cycle? It does vary widely. But there are generalities. If someone is generally healthy, but just working super hard at work, will usually start with about 3 in a row, and then go down to about 1 a month. But really depends on everyone’s lifestyle. Is it possible to work long distance with Dr. Dempster and his protocol? Yes. But not every country has doctors that are qualified and willing to do this treatment. But they generally meet with Dr. Dempster and then follow his protocols from a distance. Examples of patients he has helped range from those that come in to cure a hangover and patients that came in with cancer and only a few months to live, they’ve been on this treatment and going strong after 5 years, and patients with mental health issues that have been able to get off their medications. What tests should we be analyzing? Everyone listening today can benefit from a comprehensive metabolic workup and a micronutrient cellular nutritional panel. We need to find out what is happening in our gut. It’s an advanced organ scan, not only looking for disease. The ranges need to be looked at the optimal range. Many of us are told by our doctors that everything is fine yet we’re not doing well. That’s where these tests are helpful. Listen in to our interview with Dr. Dempster to learn more about intravenous nutritional therapy. Dr. Dempster’s 3 Habits to Ensure Optimal Health: 80/20 rule on eating. 80% of the time be super healthy and do the best you can; 20% of the time have some fun with foods and maybe a glass of wine, but be responsible. Take time with the ones that you love. Do fun things and take holidays and vacations. You’ll be a better, more productive person and be recharged for it. Reset your mental capacity and bring down your stress hormones. Even spending a day to yourself. Breathe. If you take 10 deep breathes every time you remember, you’re going to reduce the impact of stress by 40%. You can do it while driving, in the boardroom, etc. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. You will receive access for instant downloading. Ever sit around with your girlfriends and talk about all those things that drive you nuts about your man??? This episode is absolutely hilarious as Alison puts all those pesky behaviors into perspective and teaches us exactly how to understand and what to do to have a happy relationship with men. It is shock full of great information and tips we can put into action immediately and improve our relationship with the men in our lives and receive what we need and expect from them. This is Part 2 of a 2-part series to Understanding Men and Understanding Women, so make sure to listen in on Part 1 first, Become the Confident, Happy Woman You’re Meant to Be. Men 101- What do we need to know to successfully be in relationship with men? Most men are hunting most of the time. They are focused, committed, goal oriented, experience support and appreciation as it relates on what they’re focused on. Timing is everything because of their focus. The listen in now! “Honor yourself first, then honor others.” To have the best relationships, we have to start with you first. She chooses the appropriate amount of protein, fat, carbs, and timing based on activity level and client’s lean body mass. There is evidence that shows how the body reacts. And diets are adjusted when new data and reviews are available. Most common goals for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s in terms of weight and physique. Many women haven’t been to the gym in years and just starting a regime, and they see women who are competing in master cross fit nationals. They see a wide range of women. Goals are similar for women across the decades, but women in their 20s tend not to be as disciplined as the older decades to stick to their diets. How do you customize the protocols to different women? Training is fully customized. If someone is new to exercising, it takes less days of the week of training to have an effect. For women who have a garage gym and kids at home, they will work with the equipment they have at home. Different training is recommended depending on whether they’re trying to lose weight or maintain. Diet gets customized around schedule, fitness level, weight loss goals, hunger levels at different times of the day, etc. Based in science, are there specific foods that will create fat loss? There are tricks and shortcuts out there that will get you fast weight loss, but they will get you to lose muscle fat, and will not be sustainable. In a few months you will be back to where you were at or even worse. Juicing and liquid diets people will lose weight fast, but that’s because you’re losing muscle. This is especially bad for women because we need to keep our muscle mass so we can carry our bodies around for as long as possible. Is it bad to workout 7 days a week? Recovery is very important. Most people cannot recover without rest days and sleep. Pay attention to your body. A good tell-tale sign that you have pushed too hard and not recovered is that you lose motivation. Take a couple days off, sleep well and get back at it. What about working out twice a day? It is rare to lift weights twice a day and recover properly. If you do train twice a day, make sure you’re eating a lot in between and sleeping well at night. You really need to listen to your body. The pineapple day, or Hollywood diet? What is the deal with this? It’s supposed to have amazing fat burning effects. The overall, most important part of weight loss is that you’re eating less calories than you burn. You can eat Twinkies and lose weight. But it will have other health effects and chronic illness. You may be losing muscle and you may regain all the weight later. Worst organic foods myth People are paying for it and there are zero health benefits to it. Studies show that farmers spraying pesticides on produce are the least likely to develop cancer. So the only difference between organic and non-organic is the price. People taking supplements, and protein and fat burners need to first be focusing on nutrition and training. All the other stuff is icing on the cake and unless you’re properly taking care of nutrition and training, they won’t make a difference. Most important factors for weight loss: Eat less calories than you’re burning. Macro nutrient content- make sure you have enough protein, carbs and fat for performance. Timing- time your carbs around your workouts. Smaller factors to consider: Supplements and food quality, healthy fats, animal proteins vs. vegetable protein, whole grain vs. white bread, etc. What if I want a martini when I’m dieting? Fat loss diet is not a permanent state. It is a 12 week period to lose the weight. For those 12 weeks, no alcohol is recommended. It wreaks havoc on the body. But once your weight is stabilized, then enjoy an occasional drink. When losing weight you eat less, but that means less energy. And for those in athletic performance this is a big challenge she sees women struggle with. But this can be temporary once the weight is lost, then can reach a maintenance program. 15 Day Fat Loss Kick Start Ebook Download your FREE copy here!! DOWNLOAD! Check your email. Bill Benjamin helps us unpack the things we need to know about performing under pressure as women. When we hold leadership roles in corporate, we know as women, we operate under a different level of pressure than men. We have an added layer of pressure relating to making the right decisions and representing women positively in this role. A must listen-to episode to develop our emotional intelligence and perform better under pressure. What is emotional intelligence? Our work is around the idea of performing under pressure. To effectively perform in difficult moments there’s only 3 things we need to manage: our emotions under pressure, our thinking under pressure and our conversations under pressure. Emotions under pressure is the emotional intelligence work: awareness of our emotional response to certain things, ie: criticism, so we can manage our responses and connect with others. Thinking under pressure is how we’re interpreting what we’re going through and the messages we’re receiving. Conversations under pressure is around giving people performance feedback to have good impact on people and make them want to follow our lead and believe in us. It all starts with self-awareness. We need to determine what our triggers are emotionally, and identifying our default behaviors. Between men and women, men tend to be more aggressive where women tend to shut down. This is just how it is, it’s how we’re wired. We can improve our EQ by learning our in-the-moment behaviors. Bill’s book Performing Under Pressure has some great tips on how to manage emotional intelligence. One of the things that they have identified is that women have an advantage when working under pressure. Scientifically, our brains receive different signals, so we as women tend to be open to more options to resolution; whereas men tend to be more tunnel-vision in their approach and may miss other opportunities. This is why groups of men and women, tend to perform better than groups of just men or groups of just women. The pressures that women face in leadership roles has a second layer of pressure vs. men due to there being fewer women in high leadership roles and feeling the pressure of representing females in this position. Bill wrote a white paper on this explaining why there needs to be more women in these positions and how women can prepare for this type of pressure. We’re all wired to react in a crisis situation. And the idea behind Bill’s work is to see the different options available to solve that crisis and see them as an opportunity. Our brain chemistry changes when we see things as a crisis vs. an opportunity. It is important to hone in on this strategy to successfully get through it. Bills’ tip to step back in-the-moment when a situation arises is to do some breathing first. Bill and Jennifer do a role play during this episode that will clearly explain the 3 parts of emotional intelligence to successfully get through pressures at work, that can easily be applied to different groups and areas in our lives. So many people avoid the last 8% conversation. That’s when the conversation starts escalating as you’re delivering a message in terms of the receiver’s perception, so as the conversation goes on further, we tend to not deliver our entire message to avoid any further escalation. We need to be able to learn how to deliver that entire message. Bill’s book Performing Under Pressure gives some great tips to learn how to do this.
