Episode 93, Steve Lodge a slimming story of resilience and hope after a time of great loss. Podcast Episode re-run. Do we ever really know what is on the other side of “are you o.k”? This is the question Steves's friend asked during a time of despair when Steve was suffering from suicidal thoughts. Before Steve had hit rock bottom he had managed a successful weight loss of 6 stone after a health scare with his heart. Steve had also discovered a love for running and on paper was taking positive steps in the right direction. Unfortunately for Steve, his mental health had plummeted, and unbeknown to him at this time Steve was about to discover his true inner strength. After confiding in his friend and seeking professional help Steve is thankfully living life to the full equipped with an armor of mental resilience. Steve went on to lose a total of 11 stone 11 and a half pounds with Slimming World and currently runs his own group as a consultant. This episode is unapologetically raw and honest and demonstrates hope in the darkest of times. Steve recently helped raise funds for the charity “Mind” and encourages anyone struggling with their mental health to seek help. If you're reading this grappling for excuses why this isn't the week to start the healthy changes that your body is crying out to take a listen to Steve's story. This episode is an abundance of inspiration and clearly demonstrates that no slimming journey is without its twists and turns. Steve recalls the time when he suffered from dark thoughts as having an out-of-body experience. This story is very needed and I know this will help anyone who is struggling with isolation and who may be experiencing similar difficulties. It goes without saying that I am so grateful that Steve has agreed to share his full slimming story on my podcast. Steve Smith / Dan Eakins :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, October 1, 2017 What gets you up in the morning? In order to speak up, grow up, build up, and power up in the Christian faith, we need a reason to get up and live for Jesus. Steve Smith preaches about two important motivations for believers rooted in not only the commands of God—the Great Commandment and the Great Commission (Matt. 22:37-39 and 28:18-20)—but also the compassion of Christ, “for the love of Christ...who died and rose again on their behalf.” (2 Cor. 5:14,15). Before Steve’s sermon we hear briefly from Heidi Koppen, visiting missionary to Ireland, and also from Dan Eakins, who led worship for the morning (Dan and his wife Georgiana are Creekside-supported missionaries to Romania).
Steve Rodgers is the founder of The Alchemy Advisors and author of Lead to Gold: Transition to transformation. Not long ago, Steve was flying high as the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway’s southern California real estate company. He was leading over 5000 sales people at 110 different offices. It was his dream job. However, he took control when the real estate market was at its worst. And he had to start cutting everything back. He had to layoff friends. He had to close offices. And then he was laid off. Steve took this blow hard. It knocked the wind out of him. Yet he was able to bounce back and start The Alchemy Advisors and pursue his calling. This rollercoaster ride is where Steve and I start our discussion in today’s show. What you’ll enjoy in this episode: How Steve chose to focus The Alchemy Advisors on productivity, profit, and purpose. Why Birkshire wasn’t behind him, in the way Steve expected, when the going got tough, and told him to start closing offices. How he stuck to his ideals and tried to grow the business, despite being told to cut everything back. Why he said, “When you’re the coach of the team, and the team is not winning, a lot of times they replace the coach. Sometimes that needs to happen.” Why he moved out of his parents home when he was 17, and what that means to Steve today. Before Steve took over as CEO, he could see the “writing on the wall” that led to his termination. What a little voice in Steve’s head said to him when he sat in the CEO chair for the first time. How he thinks being fired was actually a push, forcing him to pursue his dream. The emotional challenge you face when firing the people you call friends. Why his wife took the firing worse than he did. How he discovered his true friends after being fired. How he went from being attached to his position and title to, what I called, “Happy Steve.” How he finds gratitude, and maintains a positive outlook, throughout all the struggles he’s faced… and will face. Why he feels like he’s finally found his purpose. Enjoy the show: You Discover Your True Friends On The Way Down
Season 1 finale! Before Steve takes off for the rest of 2016, he talks with two great young singer-songwriters. Alex G has made his name as an indie-pop tunesmith via his Bandcamp releases, but he's making in-roads toward the mainstream, including a recent cameo on Frank Ocean's "Endless." Ryley Walker is a Chicago guitarist who was raised on punk rock, and then took a left turn into jazzy, enigmatic folk music. His latest LP, "Golden Sings That Have Been Sung," is one of Steve's favorites of 2016.
