My guest is Dr. Alia Crum, Associate (tenured) Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and Director of the Stanford Mind & Body Lab. Dr. Crum is a world expert on mindsets and beliefs and how they shape our responses to stress, exercise, and even to the foods we eat. We discuss how our mindset about the nutritional content of food changes whether it is satisfying to us at a physiological (hormonal and metabolic) level. She also tells how mindsets about exercise can dramatically alter the effects of exercise on weight loss, blood pressure, and other health metrics. Dr. Crum teaches us how to think about stress in ways that allow stress to grow us and bring out our best rather than diminish our health and performance. Throughout the episode, Dr. Crum provides descriptions of high-quality peer-reviewed scientific findings that we can all leverage toward better health and performance in our lives. “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”  Jesus heard this and said to them, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.  I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”  Mark 2:16-17Jesus did it, how about you?  Are you willing to be seen with those who are “sinners?”  What's interesting to note about this passage from Scripture is that EVERYONE is a sinner.  Therefore, the truth is that everyone Jesus associated with was a sinner. But this passage and criticism of Jesus was not so much about Him associating with people who had committed sins; rather, it was more about Him associating with those who were looked down upon by the elite of society.  Jesus freely spent time with the “undesirables.”  He was not afraid to be seen with those who were scorned by others. The scribes and Pharisees were very quick to notice that Jesus and His disciples welcomed these people.  They ate and drank with tax collectors, sexual sinners, thieves and the like.  More than that, they apparently welcomed these people without judgment. So back to the initial question…Are you willing to be seen with and associate with those who are unpopular, dysfunctional, hurting, confused, and the like?  Are you willing to let your reputation suffer because you love and care for those in need?  Are you even willing to go so far as to befriend someone who will damage your social reputation?Reflect, today, upon the person in your life that you may feel like shunning.  Why is that?  Who is it that you may not want to be seen with or who you may not readily want to associate with?  It may be the case that this person, more than any other, is the person that Jesus wants you to spend time with. My loving Lord, You love all people with a deep and perfect love.  You came, especially, for those whose lives were broken and sinful.  Help me to always seek out those who are in need and to love all people with an unwavering and non-judgmental love.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2022 My Catholic Life! The lightbulb finally turns on for Peter.  The three visions about Iguanas and birds weren't just about dietary habits.  The Spirit then verbally chimes in to say, "ACCOMPANY THEM (the gentiles) WITHOUT HESITATION."  This is big, as there has been a couple of thousand years of hesitation. Of note, this is Peter's perception and understanding and interpretation of the Old Testament principles.  Unfortunately, there were lots of "add-ons" from Jewish custom that were not what God intended. Finally, he gets it.  Don't call any FOOD unclean.  Don't call any PERSON unclean or common.  Associate with the Gentiles.  Give the Good News to the Gentiles. Accompany them WITHOUT HESITATION. God is breaking down barriers. Obey what God has shown me.  EMBRACE CONVICTION.There are some big moments in history in today's reading: "he invited them in...he went away with them...don't call any person unclean." Three Mistakes Salespeople Make When Setting New Year Goals | Donald Kelly - 1520

The Sales Evangelist

It's easy to make simple mistakes when setting goals for the new year, especially if you quickly fall back into the same habits as you did the previous year. So on today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald discusses the three mistakes salespeople make when setting goals and how you can prevent those same pitfalls. And happy birthday to Donald's sister, Jessica!  1. Don't set huge goals without a plan. A Harvard study revealed that people aren't likely to succeed in huge goals. The key is to set micro-goals that are far easier to obtain and make you happier. The 12-Week Year concept is powerful because it does precisely that - breaks down an overarching goal into smaller, easier-to-obtain segments. Whether it's to make a million dollars in sales or lose a certain amount of weight, micro-goals are far easier to obtain than a massive goal. 2. Be more descriptive when setting goals 65% of the population are visual people, and it's natural for humans to think in pictures. If you have a goal in mind, making it descriptive allows you to visualize and thus better understand why the goal is important in the first place.  If your goal is to hit a quota, what are the benefits of hitting that quota? Associate the benefits and results of the goal with the goal itself to overcome objections you might create for yourself. To learn more about the benefits and how to engage in a descriptive mindset, check out the Sales Evangelist Sales Mindset Training Program.  3. Set a goal, not a dream. It takes discipline to accomplish a goal. And you might have habits that are in direct conflict with achieving a goal. You can't just wish on a plan - set it up and designate steps to accomplish that goal to see it come true! 4. Of course, a bonus: Believe in yourself! Whether in personal or professional goals, many people don't believe in their ability to reach them. Affirmations are a great way to affirm your beliefs in yourself. The problem - they're typically too vague, Keep them in the present tense, keep them visual, and keep them descriptive. It's a great way to force yourself to believe in yourself and your goals. This episode is brought to you in part by Skipio. Are you sick of crickets? As a salesperson, the pain of reaching out with phone calls or emails and not receiving a response is real. But all text messaging is not created equal. 85% of people prefer text over email and phone calls because they want to engage in a conversation, not listen to bots. How do we make them feel confident about their financial future? How do we tell stories of people that they see themselves in? There's a new class [of investors] that's being born out of this moment; how do we invite them in? How do we have our arms wide open to let them know that they're not alone?” This future-focused mindset, paired with an incredible background in politics and entertainment, gives Rashad a unique perspective as a marketer. The key to getting the most out of your own brand and budget lies in the quality of the stories you have to tell. Good stories resonate, and a good story can help you compete with the likes of fancy, high-dollar productions. The human touch of a great story can have just as much impact with your audience as some fancy production elements. The point is to lean into your strengths as a business and lean into your strengths as a marketing team to compete against bigger players. Picking the Right Influencer: When thinking about your own influencer program, bigger numbers are better, but there are some additional factors you should be considering to make the best partnership decisions. The quality of their audience engagement is critical and the overall alignment of their mission with yours are two of the factors that, when aligned, will serve both parties well. What Does a New Class of Investors Need? The opportunity to reach a new audience is one that excites a creative marketer. First, the challenge is to educate and inform. The best way to do that, to draw in a new audience, is by asking them the right questions. Seeing things from their perspective will help you to craft your message and really connect with your audience. Key Quotes“The way we leaned into our ability to create branded content across social and digital; We were doing virtual reality concerts. This was back in 2013 [when] no one was really doing that. If MTV is able to create interstitials and vignettes that live on linear TV because they have 80 to a hundred million households, what's our value prop? What we landed on was, we have phenomenal storytellers. We have great content creators. We're going to go and create content for brands that we'll use across all of our social media and our digital and linear. And on top of that, we'll white-label it and give it to you to use however you want across your channels. And so we were able to really be innovative in that, in that space.”“Robinhood really did lower the barrier of entry and democratize information and democratize people's [ability] to participate in the wealth generation process, especially for folks that have been historically, and systematically left out of financial empowerment in this country. I felt like there was an incredible opportunity to come here and help tell stories, to help inspire people to get involved in their financial health and wellness.” “hat we're developing at Robinhood over the next three years is how do we inspire people to think, feel, and act? How do we make them feel confident about their financial future? How do we tell stories of people that they see themselves in? There's a new class [of investors] that's being born out of this moment; how do we invite them in? How do we have our arms wide open to let them know that they're not alone? “The way I have the team approaching [influencer relationships] is avoiding one-offs, and [istead] developing a real partnership with talent that not only pushes forward our business goals but also helps the talent reach their goals. I never walk into a partnership conversation with a fully fleshed-out plan. [I'm] making sure that our missions are aligned because this is not just about someone cashing a check. [I'm making sure] we're both invested and passionate about what we can do together. I don't let how many followers someone has be the determining factor on doing a deal or not. Numbers you see on Tiktok and Instagram and Twitter are important, but what's the engagement and what's the conversion metric from past partnerships or even their own work?”BioRashad Drakeford is the Head of Content Marketing at Robinhood - Head of Content Marketing. Previously he spent time at Apple as their Head of Global Social Media. Before that, Rashad spent some time at REVOLT MEDIA & TV as the Senior Director of Digital Content Development. Because of an opportunity, he came across while he was in college, as a student he became the National HBCU Outreach Coordinator for The 2008 presidential campaign of United States Senator, Barack Obama. This campaign position led to jobs for him as the Obama-Biden Transition Project, as an Associate and Public Liaison in Intergovernmental Affairs, and then took a position in the government at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary. ---Marketing Trends podcast is brought to you by Salesforce.
