Happy Friday! We've got another bumper episode for you this week, so thanks for downloading. Ask The Pod this week wants to know what the best and worst club builds and purchases we've made are, and The Cool Board is back for a second week, too. Heading somewhere on the board this week are black irons, 14-way dividers on stand bags and bag tags. Finally, with the PGA Championship starting next Thursday, we thought we'd take a trip down memory lane to 2015 to take a look at what Jason Day had in the bag for his first (and only) Major championship victory. Day was repping a full bag of TaylorMade equipment in 2015, an era where TaylorMade had some mixed results with its hardware and golf balls. So, what did Day use to conquer Whistling Straits ten years ago? Welcome to the Fore Golfers Network/Michigan Golf Live Podcast Ep 470 - Caddie Tales & Life Lessons: Behind the Bag at Whistling Straits with Mark Milatz In this powerful and insightful episode, host Bill Hobson sits down with Mark Milatz, author of Caddie Tales and host of the podcast by the same name. Together, they take you inside the ropes at Whistling Straits, sharing untold stories from the caddie's perspective — from sore feet and stolen shoes to the emotional rollercoaster of dealing with high-strung golfers. Mark opens up about the physical demands of caddie life, the importance of investing in quality gear like Hoka shoes, and the potential recovery benefits of ice baths. He and Bill also explore the mental side of golf, highlighting how the game reflects deeper truths about a person's character, expectations, and attitude toward life. They tackle tough topics, including inappropriate behavior toward female staff, and the challenges of managing pace of play while dealing with strong personalities on the course. Mark's journey is as inspiring as it is raw — a former pastor who battled addiction and found redemption through golf, storytelling, and authentic human connection. Caddie Tales isn't just about golf — it's about growth, respect, recovery, and relationships. Whether you're a player, a fan, or someone curious about the lessons behind the game, this episode offers wisdom, humor, and heart.
The hosts are joined by Mike O'Reilly, General Manager of Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run at Kohler Wisconsin, who breaks down the golf offerings and more at the Midwest destination on this episode of the LINKS Golf Podcast. Love is in the air for this Friday episode as Brendan and Andy discuss their plans for Valentine's Day to start the show. If you're looking for a last-minute gift, a tipster passed along a run of Zach Johnson "Tour-Issued" memorabilia currently up for sale on eBay. Andy has PJ make some picks for collectors looking to invest, leading to a discussion about whether ZJ is out there wearing a Small polo when playing. Golf's premier gambling podcast then shouts out some LIV odds for Adelaide, where 52-year-old Richard Bland finds himself favored over Dustin Johnson in a head-to-head market this week. Andy and Brendan briefly chat about DJ's career and current standing in the game, noting how much things have changed for him since the 2020 Masters. Speaking of changes, Andy went full data boy to compare the potential teams for the Ryder Cup this fall. With the median OWGR of these teams being almost equal, Andy dispels the notion of a large advantage for the Americans as many thought there would be following the rout at Whistling Straits. Data Boy Andy then shares some numbers showing that it may be beneficial for big names to play events in the fall in order to hit the ground running at early-season Tour stops, but Brendan isn't so sure about his data set. At the Genesis, both Rory McIlroy and Jay Monahan discussed the potential PGA Tour-PIF deal. Rory commented on his recent round with President Trump, who is apparently not a fan of LIV's format despite hosting events at his courses across the globe. There's also some talk about reunification, leaving everyone wondering whether the PGA Tour or the Champions Tour would benefit more from having LIV players back in the fold. Brendan received a Champs Tour scoop and sent PJ on an investigation into a potential Champs Tour Cutthroat Corner for this week's Chubb Classic. Brendan then briefly reads some comments from new LIV CEO Scott O'Neil before saving the rest for Monday. Flashback Friday returns to send you into the weekend with Brendan remembering the anniversary of Wayne Levi's 1982 Hawaiian Open win, the first-ever with a neon golf ball on the PGA Tour.

Rogier is een paar dagen naar Spanje geweest en heeft als Teletubbie rondgereden om een vlog te maken op ons YouTube kanaal van de golfbaan Calanova. One of the best events of the entire year in golf is upon us, and who better to have than Golf Digest's Joel Beall on the show to break it all down? Joel is live from the media center at Marco Simone to give us his initial thoughts on the golf course, who he thinks it favors, why it'll be an awesome match play course and plenty more. The two then dive into which player on each side must have a good week for their team to win, the Rory struggles as of late in Ryder Cups and who is likely to go out with Ludvig Aberg this week on the European side. Plenty more is discussed including media dining, the shuttle situation and where this event ranks in terms of the greatest events in all of golf. A big shoutout to Joel for taking the time to jump on. Make sure you're following him at @joelmbeall and reading all his work this week (and always) at Golf Digest. Smylie Kaufman is joined by European Tour winner, fellow "golden retriever," and host of the "Beef's Golf Club" podcast Andrew "Beef" Johnston for a two-part Ryder Cup collaboration. Smylie and Beef relive the late-night/early-morning FaceTimes they used to exchange before digging into a preview of the Team Europe roster ahead of the Ryder Cup. The two are then joined by Padraig Harrington - who made six Ryder Cup appearances and captained the European side in 2021 - to provide his perspective on the way that roster has transformed since the loss at Whistling Straits. Few golf writers know the Ryder Cup like Shane Ryan. Since his book, The Cup They Couldn't Lose: America, The Ryder Cup, and the Long Road to Whistling Straits, he's only increased his exhaustive reporting of the biennial event's origins and history. On this week's TGJ Podcast, he and host Tom Coyne discuss the best and worst captains, the formation of the pod system, bad blood and preview next week's showdown in Rome. The Golfer's Journal Podcast is presented by Titleist and made possible by member support.
On this week's Get a Grip, Shane chats with Golf Digest's Joel Beall about the Justin Thomas debate surrounding the upcoming Ryder Cup. Should JT's incredible Ryder Cup record (and ability to get under the skin of the Europeans) be enough to earn him a spot even with the very spot season he's having? Joel and Shane discuss JT on the team, then move to what this American team might actually look like considering how many guys from Whistling Straits won't be a part of the 12. A reminder to follow everything Joel writes/tweets/thinks at @joelmbeall and a big thanks to Mr. Beall for jumping on! Temperatures soar as David, Torie and COB fave Michael Croley tackle the disturbing news of best-selling author Delia Owens. Best selling author Shane Ryan zooms in to share “The Cup They Couldn't Lose.” Ostensibly about the historic Ryder Cup, Shane's book is an eye opener on the psychology of golf, team building and international competition. He takes “inside the ropes” to new levels.
Shane Ryan stops by ahead of the release of his upcoming book The Cup They Couldn't Lose which profiles the US's dominant Ryder Cup victory at Whistling Straits while also exploring the history of the event. We discuss all aspects of the Ryder Cup including the evolution of the competition, what makes a good captain, and some of the notable mistakes both sides have made in recent years.
This Friday episode begins with some questions on who asked for a Robert Allenby image rehabilitation tour. Then Brendan and Andy get to the latest on LIV, notably Westy Island sinking into the sea (this was recorded PRE-SERGIO, which will be addressed on Monday). There's also a discussion of the weird PGL memo that was sent out to the world. Andy has some thoughts on Matt Wolff's struggles and first-round lead at TPC Potomac. Then they're joined by Shane Ryan, whose book on the Ryder Cup will come out next week (pre-order here). They get into a wide range of interesting and amusing topics related to the matches, from its future prospects, the PGA Tour getting involved on the Euro side via the strategic alliance, Phil's bencing at Whistling Straits, and some of the biggest surprises in researching and writing the book. Thanks to Shane for his time.
