Welcome to November 18, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we remember a celebrity host and a mighty mouse.  Just over a year ago we lost one of our most beloved game show hosts: Alex Trebek. While he is best known for his 30 plus years hosting Jeopardy, this was not his first show. Canadian born Trebek began his American career with a show called the Wizard of Odds. Sadly, the odds were not in his favor when he began his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Anyone facing the 8 percent survival rate knows, this disease is about time. That time is often measured in months and while the odds haven't changed in more than 40 years, today there is a reason to celebrate. The folks at PancOne are dedicated to research that gives patients more time through something called personalized medicine.   Marlo: What is an organoid?  John: Yeah, what is an organoid?  Anna: Visit PancOne.org to find out more and do your part by donating to this groundbreaking research. On World Pancreatic Cancer Day we come together to find a cure. It's about time!   Marlo: I miss Alex Trebek, I've already donated. Anna: Me too. I miss Ruth Bader Ginsberg. John: What's that website again?  Anna: PancOne.org. We give a shout out today to the world's most popular cartoon character: Mickey Mouse. Here are a few facts about Walt Disney's loveable rodent, that you might not have heard. His original name was Mortimer, but Disney's wife made him change it. His first appearance was in the 1928 silent cartoon, Steamboat Willie. Mickey didn't speak until the following year's animated feature The Carnival Kid, in which he worked as a food vendor. His first words were “Hot dog! Hot dog!” He was the first animated character to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978. Today we celebrate the birthday of this little mouse who's made a big impact. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This podcast covers New Girl Season 2, Episode 22, Bachelorette Party, which originally aired on April 9, 2013 and was directed by Matt Sohn and written by Kay Cannon and Sophia Lear. Here's a quick recap of the episode:After the loft receives their wedding invites and finds out that Cece's wedding is in 3 weeks, Jess plans Cece her “perfect” bachelorette party. Meanwhile, Schmidt goes looking for a girlfriend to bring a plus one to Cece's wedding. We discuss Pop Culture References such as:Bachelor / Bachelorette Parties - In this episode, Jess throws Cece a Bachelorette Party. Additional Pop Culture References such as:Gérard Depardieu - When Schmidt busts into Cece's apartment, rather than answer who he is to Cece's Auntie, he says he's Gérard Depardieu. Gérard Xavier Marcel Depardieu is a French actor known for performances in The Last Metro, Police, Jean de Florette, and Cyrano de Bergerac. He was granted citizenship of Russia in January 2013 and became a cultural ambassador of Montenegro in the same month.Alyssa Milano - When trying to convince Cece he could get a partner by the time of her wedding, he mentioned he “once figured out Alyssa Milano's phone number just by randomly choosing numbers.” Alyssa Jayne Milano is an American actress, producer, singer, author, and activist. As an actor, she's known for her roles in Who's the Boss?, Melrose Place, Charmed, and My Name Is Earl. As a political activist, she's known for her role in the Me Too movement.Jane Lynch - It was joked that Nick looked like Jane Lynch while wearing his dad's yellow track suit. Jane Marie Lynch is an American actress, comedian, and author. She is known for starring as Sue Sylvester (who wore a lot of tracksuits) in the Fox musical comedy series Glee, which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2013, Lynch received the 2,505th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category. [Robin] Williams - Shivrang is “baffled” why the US “refuses to embrace Robbie Williams”. Robin McLaurin Williams was an American actor and comedian. Known for his improvisational skills and the wide variety of characters he created, he is regarded as one of the best comedians of all time. “Candy Shop” - 50 Cent - Alfredo, the stripper, played this song when he was trying to do his strip dance. "Candy Shop" is the second single by rapper 50 Cent from his second commercial album, The Massacre. "Candy Shop" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming 50 Cent's third number one single and fifth top-ten single. The song was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 2006 Grammy Awards and the music video was nominated for Best Male Video at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. We also cover Schmidt explaining why he goes to Booty Burn Bootcamp as our “Schmidtism” this episode. For our “Not in the 2020s” we discuss Schmidt and Elizabeth's relationship, how Nick and Winston tried to get a picture of Shivrang's penis, Schmidt demanding a +1, and Schmidt thinking women are supposed to want commitment. For our “Yes in the 2020s” we highlight Schmidt apologizing to Cece. We also give a brief look into Merritt Wever (Elizabeth), the Guest Star we feature in this episode. Also in this episode were the following guest stars who we do not discuss in the podcast: Satya Bhabha (Shivrang - Previously discussed in S2E18), June Diane Raphael (Sadie - Previously discussed in S1E15), Rebecca Ballantine Reid (Nadia - Previously discussed in S1E22), Lauren Dair Owens (Young Jess - Previously discussed in S2E5), Sudha Desai (Grandmother), Frank Cappello (Male Stripper), Britni Stanwood (Model - Previously Appeared in S2E5), Margarita Kallas (Model #2), Eugenia Kuzmina (Svetlana), Talia Toms (Hot Girl #1), Katie Walder (Cheryl - Previously Appeared in S1E8), Cynthia Murell (Hot Girl #3), Jaidan Jiron (Young Cece), and Roma Chugani (Ankita). In this podcast, we call out a few camera goofs like how you see Jess say “Not Now Alfredo” but don't actually hear her speak (around 13:20) and how when Schmidt knocks on Elizabeth's door, it was never closed (around 15:50). We also share this article (which contains spoilers) where we learned that Elizabeth serves as a foil for Cece because Elizabeth tries to make Schmidt a better guy. Elizabeth Meriwether also mentions the inspiration for the idea of the “dead dad pass.”While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:Shandy - When Shivrang is hanging out at the bar with Nick and Winston, he asks them if they want a shandy. A shandy is a beer mixed with either a lemon or lemon-lime flavored beverage that is popular in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada. This episode got a 7/10 Rating from Kritika whose favorite character was Shivrang and Kelly rated this episode a 7.5/10 and her favorite character was Jess! Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 23!Music: "Hotshot” by scottholmesmusic.comFollow us on Twitter, Instagram or email us at whosthatgirlpod@gmail.com!Website: https://smallscreenchatter.com/

Two dynamic people merging into a karmic-destined, intense and turbulent love relationship. Each struggling with their own demons including sexual abuse and incest. Their private life was replete with love, passion, erotic pleasure and eventually bondage, sexual experimentation, and pain as an avenue to pleasure. Their marriage was marred by a toxic secret that could not be ignored. Her writing speaks to readers universally by focusing on their personal journey, revealing the truth about the couple, addresses conquering fear and overcoming obstacles, self discovery, recovery, re-inventing and rebuilding one's self. TRT World's Daily News Brief for Thursday, October 7th: *) UN warns that Afghanistan's economy is on the verge of collapse Afghanistan's health system is failing and the economy is on the brink of collapse, the country's director for the World Food Progamme has warned. Mary-Ellen McGroarty said donor pledges and commitments “must urgently be turned into reality” before it is too late. Nearly half the population, more than 18 million people, require aid assistance to survive, while conflict and insecurity have displaced more than 3.5 million, with nearly 700,000 uprooted this year alone, UN figures say. In mid-August, the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in parallel with a US troop withdrawal from the country. *) Earthquake in southern Pakistan kills more than a dozen people A magnitude 5.7 quake strikes Pakistan's southern Balochistan province, killing at least 20 people and wounding 200 others, officials say, warning death toll could rise. The worst-affected area has been the remote mountainous city of Harnai, where a lack of paved roads and electricity has hampered the rescue effort. Pakistan straddles the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, making the country susceptible to earthquakes. *) Probe finds refugees face illegal pushback at Greece, Croatia borders Migrants and refugees are suffering sometimes violent illegal pushback carried out by special police units at the EU's borders, especially Greece and Croatia, says Germany's Der Spiegel. Videos of 11 pushbacks described by Der Spiegel allegedly show men beating refugees before bringing them back across the border into Bosnia-Herzegovina. "Asylum-seekers' testimony is piling up in Greece, Romania, and Croatia, gathered by aid groups, lawyers, and journalists," the paper added. *) Armed bandits kill more than a dozen in northwest Nigeria Armed men have killed at least 18 people and set ablaze cars and shops in Nigeria's Zamfara state, two residents have said. The attack comes as the government imposed a telecoms blackout as part of a security operation against groups of kidnappers. Northwest Nigeria has been engulfed in crisis since late 2020 when groups of armed men began a spate of mass abductions from schools and other violent attacks on villages. And finally… *) Daniel Craig gets Hollywood Walk of Fame star next to former James Bond Roger Moore Daniel Craig finally has got a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, days before his last movie as James Bond opens in the United States. The actor's pink and terrazzo star has been placed next to that of the late Roger Moore, who played Bond in seven movies from 1973 to 1985. "It's an absolute honour to be walked all over in Hollywood," said Craig.

Brenda and Shelley catch up with the legendary soul-stirring gospel and R&B singer CeCe Winans at her home in Tennessee. This vocal powerhouse has won twelve Grammy Awards, twenty-three GMA Dove Awards and she's performed everywhere from Oprah to the White House. CeCe has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and she has 3.5 million record sales to date. One of ten children, CeCe's love of gospel music started in the church and many of her top hits were recorded with her brother, Bebe Winans. She sang her first solo in the church at the tender age of eight. The Winans' house rule was only gospel music was played in the house. CeCe explains, “I was in church all of the time. It was my foundation." CeCe's highly anticipated new album “Believe For It” is full of anointed worship music. CeCe shares, “I know people have gone through a lot. People are hurting, people are broken-hearted. Some have lost their loved ones and their jobs. I want to challenge them to still believe, to release their faith for the impossible, and not to give up because the God we serve is faithful. The Bible says (Mark 11:24) when we pray, if we believe what we're asking for, then it is ours." In this episode CeCe reflects on what Black History Month means to her. CeCe states, “It's a time to celebrate, a time to reflect on all of the great things that people who went before me paved the way for me to be where I am today.” She also talks about her twenty-nine year friendship with the late great Whitney Houston and their smash duet “Count on Me” from the multi-platinum “Waiting to Exhale” soundtrack CeCe was the godmother of Whitney's daughter, the beautiful Bobbi Kristina. CeCe's still suffering from this devastating loss, even today. “My heart is still aching because we lost a jewel. We were sisters. We were friends. People don't realize how amazing Whitney was. She knew she could count on me, and I could count on her.” CeCe also discloses what hurts her the most about losing Whitney too soon. CeCe discusses her TV Show on TBN “Better Together” (real life, real conversations with powerhouse pastors and leaders) and what's next for this iconic voice. “What's in my cup today?” CeCe laughs. “Gratefulness. I am so grateful for what He's already done, and so grateful for what He's going to do."

Our guest today is 80s star, multiple-awards film, and theater actor, and activist, Edward James Olmos. Olmos's roles in films or TV shows like Stand and Deliver, Battlestar Galactica, broadway musical and film Zoot Suit, Blade Runner as detective Gaff, and many others are some of the most memorable of all time and he's still dominating our screens. While I could not resist talking about his iconic roles over several decades, we mainly discussed Olmos' new must-see film, Chasing Wonders. The picturesque Australian/British drama was the official selection at the Adelaide film festival in 2020. The beautiful cinematography of the film was shot over a five years period to authentically capture the coming of age story by screenwriter, Judy Morris. Chasing Wonders is a story of hope, possibility adventure, and overcoming your past - a heart-warming story of a young boy, who, encouraged by his grandfather (Olmos) to live a life of hope and possibility, takes off on the adventure of a lifetime to find the magical Emu Plains. His journey through the lush landscapes of Australia and Spain leads him to the heart of the human condition – learning to acknowledge the complexity of what comes before us but struggling not to be defined by the past. The Hollywood Walk of Famer earned an Academy nomination for Best Actor in the 1988 drama, Stand and Deliver. He gave a stellar lead performance as Bolivian- American educator Jaime Alfonso Escalante Gutiérrez. Olmos filmography is quite extensive. Literally, the man has stayed booked and busy since 1974. He's appeared in over 130 films, TV shows, and plays. One of his outstanding roles is perhaps,  Lieutenant Martin Castillo in the Miami Vice (1984) as a series regular. A fan-favorite for sure. But if we do talk about Lieutenant Castillo we must mention Olmos' role as Detective Gaff in Blade Runner (1982) and a brief reprise in the sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017).Gaff is the Los Angeles police officer who detains and escorts Deckard (Harrison Ford) throughout his mission as a ‘Blade Runner' to track down bioengineered humanoids known as replicants and terminally "retire" them.Olmos showed the world his versatility in both the Broadway play and film adaptation of the musical comedy, Zoot Suit. The story weaves the real-life events of the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial - resulting in the racially fueled Zoot Suit Riots throughout Los Angeles. Olmos portrays El Pachuco, an idealized Zoot Suiter, who functions as narrator throughout the story and serves as Henry's conscience in both adaptations.Honestly, I could go on and on down Olmos' filmography, but we can't spotlight all of his other spectacular films right now. So, let's get into this interview, shall we?
