Why hasn’t The Sound of Music been remade? That question makes us ponder the rules that determine which Hollywood properties can be recycled indefinitely and which apparently must remain untouched. Movie scenes and celebrity anecdotes keep complicating the distinction between cultural treasure and something people simply like for no good reason. Someone made proposal that Dolly Parton needs to be a saint, a proposal that's problematic on it's own terms but doubly probIematic when the proposition comes from an atheist. If canonization worked by popular vote, celebrities would arrive with ready-made constituencies, because fame has a way of turning reputation into evidence of virtue. Popular celebrities are assigned virtues by their fans. The focus widens to another cultural achievement: convincing people to buy things that are readily available for free. Water, dirt, coffee, and other everyday products become examples of what happens when marketing convinces us to pay a premium price for bargain level items. By the time the Hollywood Walk of Fame enters the discussion, movies, sainthood, products, and celebrity status are all running on surprisingly similar rules. A classic film can become too revered to remake, Dolly Parton can accumulate saintly credentials through public affection, and water or dirt can acquire value through presentation—while Hollywood puts famous names into the sidewalk and lets everybody walk on them.

Happy Hump Day, yo! We got a ton of rain during the overnight which makes me wonder why I watered my lawn yesterday in the afternoon??? Derp. Anyway, speaking of water...we had a few news stories about water this morning. One was about the flooding at Zion National Park, and the other was about a private water line for a data center that leaked over 3 million gallons of water. Also in the news this morning, Tony Romo plead "no contest" to his DUI, more info on the deadly stabbing incident in NYC earlier this week, a 14 year-old girl who got pregnant by her own father, Dolly Parton's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is getting replaced after it was vandalized, and Bonnie Blue gave birth. In sports, the Brewers bounced back and got a 9-4 win over the Cubs last night, the Packers have NOT seen the footage in the Josh Jacobs case, the Vikings sign Kyle Van Noy to the practice squad, Keenan Allen should be on the field for the Colts in Week 1 after his recent DUI arrest, a look at the upcoming NCAAF schedule, and the Angels are finally getting sold to Stan Kroenke. We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight. Plus, the guy who does the announcing on "Wheel of Fortune" is suspended, and a documentary about Matthew Perry is coming to Netflix in October. Brian recently found out some very interesting things about some of the people living in his neighborhood and is now wondering if he's gotta move. Elsewhere in sports, an updated on the college football running back who died after suffering a seizure on the sidelines, a coach from "Last Chance U" gets fired, a high school football team refused to participate in a pre-game handshake, an Arizona school district cancels it's entire season, and a wild brawl between youth football coaches in Pennsylvania. A principal of a school in Nepal reacted quickly and saved hundreds of lives from that recent flooding, and a class ring was found with a metal detector & made it's way back to the original owner! It's "One Gotta Go Wednesday" and this morning's edition dealt with some of the best sophomore albums of all time! Nirvana's "Nevermind". Led Zeppelin's "Led Zeppelin II". Alice in Chain's "Dirt". Or Motley Crue's "Shout At The Devil". Which one are you getting rid of? Would you say that Wisconsin is a "fun state"??? According to some new research, we aren't doing too bad compared to the rest of the nation. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a couple of guys who got arrested for making jokes about explosives at an airport, a Japanese man arrested for the massacre of a bunch of hamsters, the serial pooper in Utah got arrested finally, and the serial butt-sniffer in California also got arrested........again! Plus, someone named "Crooked Jess" decided to do something crooked. Go figure. And a dude from WI broke into a bar after-hours & stole some White Claws and vodka while rocking a Packer robe.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rejected by his parents for being gay, Harvey Brownstone turned pain into a best-selling memoir

“Everything I did was about making my parents proud,” said retired Ontario Court of Justice judge Harvey Brownstone, summing up his lifetime struggle for acceptance. Rejected and cut off at age 19 when he told his parents he was gay, Hamilton native Harvey Brownstone went on to succeed in school, in the legal profession, and now in the world of show business. But his new book, “Without Prejudice: My Life as a Gay Judge” , which was released earlier this summer, reveals the heart-breaking personal cost of fighting homophobia from his family, at university, Bay Street law firms, and even from the top level of the Ontario government. But as Brownstone turned 70 last week, on July 24, he is thrilled that his life story is now touching a chord with so many readers both in the gay community and beyond. His book has been on the bestseller lists. Soon, a new Hollywood bio-pic of his life, starring David Arquette, based on the manuscript, is to be released this fall. And while Brownstone doesn't have his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, nearly five years post-retirement from the bench, he's already interviewed hundreds of famous movie stars since he launched his second career as a celebrity talk-show host in 2021. On today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast, Harvey Brownstone returns to the show to talk about the reaction to his new book: he shares how he finally forgave his mother, why the Ontario court system — specially family court — needs a serious remake, and he gives his advice for any young people considering when to “come out” to their families. If your idea of a productive morning includes hiding whiskey in your shoes, arguing with Oprah, and learning more about kidney stones than any human ever wanted to know, congratulations—you've found today's daily comedy show. The gang kicks things off by reacting to Fireball's newest invention: high-top sneakers with hidden compartments designed to smuggle booze into concerts. Is it brilliant? Is it incredibly stupid? Can both be true? Absolutely. The conversation quickly spirals into stories about sneaking drinks into venues, golf-course bathroom etiquette, and why "shoe whiskey" should never become part of the English language. Then things take an unexpectedly painful turn as Bret Michaels undergoes emergency kidney stone surgery, which leads Moon to share some of the most unforgettable—and honestly horrifying—kidney stone stories ever told on this show. Hospital visits, tour disasters, screaming in public bathrooms... somehow everyone survives, but barely.Celebrity news brings plenty of chaos, too. Tommy Lee reveals one of Motley Crue's most unbelievable drug stories, Bon Jovi struggles through a concert after vocal issues, Korn's Jonathan Davis gets married, Johnny Depp surprises Comic-Con fans, and Jason Alexander makes headlines by apologizing for a decades-old comedy sketch. The crew also debates whether Johnny Depp will always be Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, or something completely different depending on who you ask. Then Oprah enters the conversation with a comment that lights the fuse on one of the episode's biggest discussions. Should young people sacrifice everything to build a career, or should work-life balance begin immediately? Everyone has an opinion, nobody completely agrees, and somehow the debate turns into one of the most thoughtful conversations of the morning without losing the sarcasm that keeps everything fun.Of course, it wouldn't be The Rizzuto Show without plenty of side quests. There are discussions about Olive Garden Pasta Pass failures, Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, celebrity birthdays, awkward David Letterman moments, the Kardashians, concert ticket disasters, and enough random tangents to make your GPS give up entirely.Whether you're here for celebrity gossip, weird news, hilarious fails, pop culture commentary, or simply because you enjoy hearing a group of friends derail every conversation imaginable, today's daily comedy show delivers exactly the kind of organized chaos you've come to expect. Thanks for making us part of your day. If you laughed, learned something completely unnecessary, or now have an irrational fear of kidney stones, we'd call that a successful episode.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of JJ Meets World, JJ and Tucker break down JJ's wild one-day trip from Fargo to Los Angeles to see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in an immersive Cosm shared reality theater experience. JJ and his sister Chrissy wake up at 3:30 in the morning, fly from Fargo to Minneapolis to Los Angeles, visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, stop by Hollywood landmarks like the Dolby Theatre, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the TCL Chinese Theatre, the Roosevelt Hotel, and the El Capitan Theatre, and then head to Inglewood for a one-of-a-kind dome screening of the first Harry Potter movie. The episode digs into what makes the Cosm Harry Potter experience feel different from IMAX, 3D, VR, or traditional moviegoing. JJ describes the huge dome screen, the expanded Hogwarts environments, the flying Hogwarts letters, the Quidditch match, floating candles in the Great Hall, and the idea of "shared reality" as a new way to experience movies with an audience. JJ and Tucker also talk about the future of immersive cinema, whether movies like The Matrix, Jurassic Park, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Wizard of Oz, and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey would work in formats like Cosm or IMAX, and why familiar movies might be the perfect fit for this kind of expanded theatrical presentation.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Grammy® Honoree, Hollywood Walk of FameLet's Celebrate Rock & Roll Hall of Fame IHonoree Robert " Kool" Bell & Kool & The Gang! Robert's NEW Brand is.  La Kool. lKool had always envisioned having his own brand out of Europe. For many years, he sought out Grand Cru Vineyards from owners that have been selling for generations and decided to work with Paul Berthelot, a Multi-Vintage Grand Cru Producer since 1884. Kool & the Gang, officially launched in 1969, after performing for five years under various band titles, has influenced the music of three generations and the band has become true recording industry legends. Thanks to iconic songs like Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, they've earned two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albumsIn 1969, Kool & the Gang released their self-titled debut album/ It was the introduction to a theme, music is the message, that Kool & the Gang stands by today. The instrumental album was an expression of their deep love of music. It was also an introduction to their signature sound and the fierce horn arrangements created by Khalis, Dee Tee, and Spike. Their debut album spawned their first Billboard R&B charted single Kool & the Gang and later Let the Music Take Your Mind. In 1970, their audacious sophomore set Live at the Sex Machine peaked at #6 on Billboard's R&B chart and yielded three hit singles: Funky Man, Who's Gonna Take the Weight, and I Want to Take You Higher. Next came The Best Of Kool & the Gang Featuring The Penguin, Kool & the Gang Live at PJ'S, Music Is The Message, and Good Times, all of which helped solidify a sound that wowed not only fans but such contemporaries as James Brown and Nina Simone.e 80's would see them dominate the mainstream, starting with the double platinum-selling album Celebrate (driven by the international monster hit Celebration, which spent six weeks atop the R&B chart and became a #1 Pop single). Celebration, which played as the American hostages returned from Iran, remains de rigueur at joyous occasions worldwide. The smashes Get Down On It, Take My Heart, Let's Go Dancing, Joanna, Tonight, Misled, the #1 R&B, #2 Pop giant Cherish and the #1 R&B anthem Fresh (these last three from the multi- platinum LP Emergency) solidified the group's international stardom. Kool & the Gang landed global commercial endorsements, supported countless charitable causes and were the only American group to participate in Band Aid's 1984 Do They Know It's Christmas project for famine victims in Africa. With the explosion of hip-hop in the 90's, Kool & the Gang's incredible catalog of grooves made them DJ favorites. They were second only to R&B icon James Brown as sources of rap music samples. Today, the group enjoys global fame and recognition and a following that spans generations due in part to the groups widely sampled catalogue.© 2026 Building Abundant Success!!2026 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

For over a century, Alfred Hitchcock has remained one of cinema’s most influential directors. Known as the Master of Suspense, this visionary filmmaker directed more than fifty films over six decades. His thriller “The Lodger” (1927) marked the start of his signature style, which was later exemplified in classic films like “Vertigo” (1958), “North by Northwest” (1959), “Psycho” (1960), and “The Birds” (1963). Hitchcock’s work received tremendous success and critical acclaim. While he never won the competitive Academy Award for Best Director, he received five Oscar nominations, two Golden Globes, the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, a BAFTA Fellowship, multiple lifetime achievement awards, and two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Nine of his films are preserved in the United States National Film Registry. His mastery of tension, innovative camera techniques, and psychological depth continue to inspire and influence modern filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Jordan Peele, and Bong Joon Ho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NUJN1fq0Sc Drawing on new archival research, previously unpublished interviews, and a rigorous examination of key biographies, “A Century of Hitchcock” challenges the long-standing narratives that have shaped Hitchcock’s legacy. Author Tony Lee Moral revisits controversial claims regarding Hitchcock’s alleged abuses, scrutinizing biographer Donald Spoto’s interpretations—particularly Spoto’s portrayal of the director’s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren. With his analysis of Spoto’s 1980 interview of Hedren, Moral reveals for the first time how one key document contradicts decades of exaggeration. In this comprehensive reappraisal of Hitchcock’s career, Moral encourages readers to explore the complexities of creative collaboration and the risks of relying on a single biographical narrative. Marking one hundred years since Hitchcock’s first film, “The Pleasure Garden”, and fifty years since his last film, “Family Plot”, Moral reexamines the director’s cinematic brilliance, storytelling mastery, creative partnerships, and controversies, offering a fresh perspective on Hitchcock’s legacy in the post-#MeToo era.

She has been awarded Academy Awards, a BAFTA, a Critics Choice Award, the Costume Designers Guild Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But before that, she was exploring Black literature and history in Black Studies-focused enrichment programs in her home state of Massachusetts. When she was a young adult, she was deconstructing clothing and taking notes from grunge scenes, citing Lisa Bonet and Madonna as early beauty and style inspiration. In our conversation, Ruth walks us through her life and career, explaining how the girl who dressed like a grunge artist would introduce Afrofuturism to the world. During our chat, Ruth tells us about how she has always drawn on her interest in literary, dramatic, and visual arts to design on film sets. She shared the initial culture shock she experienced at her HBCU, Hampton, and how the theater department helped her blend her artistic sensibilities with the coiffed presentation of her classmates. Ruth detailed how she drew on these experiences in her first position in School Daze, and how her dedication led to the first of many creative collaborations with directors like Spike Lee, which would shape her career. Our conversation ranges from the specific way she employs the lessons her psychologist mother taught her, like gaining and keeping people's trust, to spending time with Tina Turner. We discussed so much of her portfolio, and what compelled her to begin archiving her designs, which now make up the traveling exhibition “Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design.” Ruth is open about her painstakingly detailed commitment to historical accuracy and how her early exposure to ideas about the future being a site of freedom and exploration shaped the visual identity for Black Panther. Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 2 (5.27) Adam Carolla got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today! Dr. Drew and Jimmy Kimmel were there to support him, so let’s listen to their speeches. Timmy recalls all the times he’s been suspended for naughty things he’s said on air. Everybody in Garden Grove is back home! But there’s now a big fallout because of that chemical tank scare. Why did GKN Aerospace keep such dangerous, unstable chemicals so close to homes? People are still robbing donut shops! It happened in Simi Valley after a driver repeatedly rammed his car into the shop’s facade. Apparently, he was upset that the store was closed. Wells is in full midlife crisis mode: A new espresso era, a power washer obsession and a big purchase he's a little embarrassed to talk about. But the show must go on... So Brandi shares all the behind-the-scenes from Miley's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony (Donatella Versace and the vintage Atelier Versace gown, Anya Taylor-Joy's speech, but no Spencer Pratt?). Plus, she unveils the truth about the headline breaking the internet about “Miley's husband.” Also on the docket: Brandi should go on The Traitors, men who read fiction are a green flag, and don't tell Matt about the salmon jizz. Plus, a potato masher from Amazon that is causing some confusion and MTV shows that should make a comeback. Date My Mom? Gold. Oh, and Wells needs to die with $500 in his bank account so he can leave his loved ones confused at his funeral. Classic Wells. Love ya, Fam!
