Steven and Ian open with a conversation about Steven's upcoming trip to London and whether he'll actually get to see Oasis (1:27). Then they talk about the Fantasy Album Draft and how Clipse did slightly worse than Steven hoped, perhaps because there's "dad rap" fatigue with critics (6:07). They also talk about the new album by Alex G, and how he was able to make his most accessible music without losing his essential Alex G-ness (1950).Then they transition to the new Deftones single, and how the long-running metal act keeps growing in public estimation (34:43). Finally, they conclude with a discussion of Tame Impala's Currents, which turns 10 this week (46:13).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks up the up emo band Sport and Steven reps for psych-rock veteran Andy Boay (58:29).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday.

Steven and Ian begin this week's episode by noting the returns of two indie-rock favorites from the 2000s — Grizzly Bear and Fiery Furnaces are both returning to the road later this year (0:42). (Given that Grizzly Bear's Shields was recently inducted in the Indiecast Hall Of Fame, could this be evidence of the vaunted Indiecast bump?)The guys also talk about an upcoming fall tour from Modest Mouse and Built To Spill, and weigh the catalogs of these iconic bands against each other (7:32). Then they discuss the latest song by Alex G, a teaser for his upcoming RCA Records debut LP (19:05). In the mailbag, a listener asks whether being a music critic makes it harder to be a music fan (28:19). The guys also answer an email about Sleep Token, which makes this the second consecutive episode with Sleep Token discourse. In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the latest from the UK band Caroline and Steven goes for the Chicago guitarist Eli Winter (53:35).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. This week's Empire Podcast (episode 664 if you're keeping score!) is more packed with goodness than your average Easter egg. Not only do Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, and Alex Godfrey get into a discussion about what exactly makes a musical a musical (along with an impromptu visit to a certain mountain), but they tackle the week's movie news, including the revelation that the Oscars will finally have a Best Stunt Design category (note: this was recorded, due to the Easter holidays, before the new Fantastic Four trailer and Star Wars movie news. We'll get to those next week), and review Ryan Coogler's Sinners, Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza's Warfare, and the new Steve Coogan film, The Penguin Lessons. And if that weren't enough, our guest egg overcracketh, as Chris sits down with Steve Coogan and co-star Jonathan Pryce, [21:13 - 33:16 approx] and Sinners' genius composer, Ludwig Göransson, [1:31:25 - 1:45:01 approx] while Alex has an engrossing chat with Warfare's directors, Ray Mendoza and the other Alex G. [52:19 - 1:07:55 approx] And finally, there's an excerpt from Chris' wonderful spoiler special chat with The Monkey director, Osgood Perkins. [1:46:16 - 1:57:31 approx] Our full spoiler special for that movie is now up in our spoiler special feed. Phew, told you it was a packed show. Enjoy!

https://www.instagram.com/olliebyrd_owlpagoda/https://www.youtube.com/@olliebyrdBioOllie Byrd finally dated the girl he had dreamed of since he was 14. They were together for several years before parting ways. A year after the breakup, Ollie wrote a song about the experience—a quintessential emo narrative. Decades later, he revisited the track, producing it in low-fi with subtle rock guitar elements, and released it as “The Sun Will Bring the Day Again.”The title, which does not appear in the lyrics, reflects a sentiment of optimism, as Ollie explains, “I couldn't bring myself to make it that sad… I thought it would be nice to have at least the title be optimistic.” The song, a reflection on the loss of his first true love, captures a raw, universal theme.“The Sun Will Bring the Day Again” is, in Ollie's words, “about acceptance.” He elaborates, “I had a crush on her since I was 14. She was literally the girl of my dreams. We had four or five years together, but I took it for granted, and of course, there's the level of testosterone motivating a young man to do silly, extremely stupid behaviors.”Having started recording at home in 2004, Ollie has long embraced the low-fi sound. He often draws comparisons to Alex G, a popular artist known for recording at home, with Ollie noting, “Every kid records at home now. Every kid in America has an album.” Ollie plays all the instruments himself and serves as his own producer.Ollie's 2006 album Barrel O' Fun received positive reception, and he toured with a band for several years. However, he realized that the music business, while rewarding, couldn't sustain him long-term. After a period off the radar, Ollie released music in 2012 before taking it down for rework. In 2018, his song “Couple Skate” from Barrel O' Fun went viral on Instagram, prompting him to return to his music career. Although Ollie still enjoys hard rock and over-driven guitars, he has since embraced a more mellow style, drawing inspiration from acoustic artists like Nick Drake and Jeremy Enigk.Reflecting on his growth as a musician, Ollie notes that when he originally wrote “The Sun Will Bring the Day Again,” he had limited compositional skills. However, when recording it years later, he applied the techniques he had honed over the years. He incorporated elements of over-driven guitar inspired by Brian Eno's work on Here Come the Warm Jets to add complexity and texture to the original, simple concept.“The Sun Will Bring the Day Again” remains a deeply personal track for Ollie, infused with raw emotion. It is a testament to both his growth as an artist and the heartache that inspired it. With new music on the horizon, listeners can connect with Ollie Byrd across all platforms for fresh songs, videos, and updates.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

This week, the guys recorded Indiecast a few days early, so they apologize in advance for missing any potential indie news. Steven was off to NYC for the film festival premiere of Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary — which he worked on as story producer — ahead of streaming on HBO/Max on November 29 (2:24). After a brief conversation about yacht rock, the guys talk about the exodus on social media to Bluesky and how the new-ish app feels like a Christian rock alternative to X/Twitter (10:09).Then they hash out an unfortunate trend: The end of Pitchfork Fest. They share memories of the festival and discuss how it was like a convention for music writers (17:57). From there, they review the recent Grammy nominations, some truly weird picks for Best New Artist, and some surprisingly good picks for Best Alternative Album (30:40). Finally, they discuss the meteoric rise of the indie-adjacent singer-songwriter Mk.gee and whether it annoys Alex G (43:00).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the Chicago emo band Bottom Bracket and Steven recommends the LA post-punk quartet Bondo (53:52).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Molly Brown and Alex Gravatt hold it down with Matt Hamilton away in San Diego and Jim Rutledge on his way back from Oklahoma. Molly has Alex G give her the recap of his food poisoning that caused him to miss hosting last night's Great Dane Huddle with Barry Alvarez, where Barry was sick of hearing from basketball player Ben Brust. Molly and G get into a different hot seat after the Packers opponent this week changed play-callers. With the Bears demoting their OC Shane Waldron — just as Jim Rutledge predicted — Molly and G get into Packers' fans joy from watching their rival in misery, asking which team's fanbase do Packers fans enjoy watching fail the most: the Bears, Jets or 49ers? Chicago is the ultimate archrival, but are the Jets with Aaron Rodgers and the playoff boogeyman 49ers more disliked by Packers fans? G also asks Molly which team she remembers enjoying the most when the Packers beat them and the teams who hurt her the most. Jason Wilde joins Molly Brown and Alex Gravatt to discuss Packers fans enjoyment at watching the Bears dysfunction and Barry Alvarez ripping into "the basketball player" Ben Brust. Jason first asks G how he's doing after missing Barry's debut as the title member of the Great Dane Huddle and Jesse setting him up to tear into Ben Brust. They also talk with Jason about his take on Wilde & Tausch this morning that, since he's not a Packers fan, he actually feels bad for Bears fans after the team showed its continued dysfunction by demoting its OC today. Are fans getting too caught up in Bears fans misery and looking past Sunday's game as an actual contest? They wrap up Hour 1 with a check-in on G's tummy and the results of today's poll question.
Molly Brown and Alex Gravatt hold it down for Hour 1 until Matt joins from his spot under the stairs at the AirBnB in Red Deer, Alberta. Molly and Alex G get personal on this Halloween, discussing their deepest darkest irrational fears... Molly discusses why she is afraid that, given Jordan Love's erratic play when healthy-ish this season, he won't be good enough to beat the Lions if he's anything less than 100% healthy. Is Alex G fully bought on the upside of Love even if he's not healthy versus the safe backup of Malik Willis? Also, why is Molly afraid of being murdered at a haunted house and what is Alex G's fear/fascination with the ocean? What are the best Halloween party and trick-or-treating traditions, what are the most irrational holiday fears, and did Primetime dress up as a serial killer for Halloween, or is this just how he dresses every day...? They wrap up Hour 1 with the High Life Dive Bar of the week, featuring the Nitty Gritty in Middleton (the birthday place of the greater Madison area right on the eve of Alex G's birth month)!
Molly Brown and Alex Gravatt are joined by Matt Hamilton live in between matches from the Pan-Continental Curling Championships in Alberta. They invite Matt in on their Halloween topic of the day: with Molly's fear of being murdered at a haunted house, what is your irrational fear? Molly, Alex G and Matt slide from talking about irrational fears to Molly's fear that Jordan Love won't be good enough to beat the Lions if he's not 100% healthy with his groin injury. Is fully healthy Malik Willis a better option under center than Love if he's anything less than healthy, and has Love been good enough this season for us to believe he can beat the Lions when not fully healthy? They play Molly's Game, including picks in this weekend's Wisconsin Volleyball matchups, Bears vs Cardinals, and Falcons vs the Cowboys (and Matt's favorite, Mr. Mid Dak Prescott). They wrap with Throwing Stones on why Halloween stinks in cold weather states, why this is the best Packers season since the Super Bowl and sports coaches who need better time management during practice.
Jim Rutledge is joined by Alex Gravatt with Molly Brown out on mommy duty and Matt still curling in the Pan-Continental Curling Championships. Jim and G start with the biggest story in baseball -- the two "jackass" Yankees fans who interfered with the Dodgers' Mookie Betts in last night's World Series game! Jim demands that these two be put on the "no-fan" list and banned from ALL sports FOREVER! Alex G makes that case that Mookie's wrist is "fine" and there's no need to overreact. They also talk about the most egregious incidents of fans interfering in sporting events and the most embarrassing fan moments they've seen in person. Jim shares the story of when he maybe made a "Skip" of himself during the Pats vs Giants Super Bowl in 2007, and Prime shares his most uncomfortable movie fan moment. During Minute to Win It, with the Badgers first rivalry trophy game of the season coming up this Saturday, Jim and Prime quiz Alex G on the Big Ten's 17 rivalry game trophies!
