Dan talks to Philadelphia DJ Cosmo Baker about growing up in South Philly, his parents' skateboard store, King Britt, The Remedy (a regular club night that Cosmo put on with Rich Medina for years), moving to Brooklyn, the hustle and grind that is living in New York City, coming home to Philly after years on the road, how he shelves his records (depends on which room), and how his tastes have progressed and evolved as he gets older. In our first masked up, socially distanced episode, Cosmo Baker joins us to talk about his crazy election season DJing adventures, including his work with Joy To The Polls, Election Defenders, and how he ended up DJing for the most important block party in the world. But first we start out all over the place talking about some new songs that came out in the last few week. Then we realize that we're actually doing a podcast and officially start the show. Cosmo tells us how it all went down in the weeks leading up to the elections and how everything unfolded in Philadelphia in the days after the election. We get into Covid and other current events. Since we love a good list here, we went down some of the classic uplifting freedom bangers Cosmo played at these events, which somehow leads us down the road of making fun of salty memes that old head rappers post. Then we talk about the Redbull Radio mix series that we're all involved with, HOLLERBOARED REDUX! This episode was really serious and hilarious at the same time and there was a lot of out takes that we may release in a bonus episode, but for now this is more than enough!

Episode 158: COSMO BAKER On this week’s episode of the @RoadPodcast, the fellas speak with South Philly’s finest @CosmoBaker. Cosmo and @DJCrooked reminisce on their Philly road trips from NYC in the early 2000s (00:45) and speak about Philly’s tight Hip-Hop community emerging in the early ’90s with @QuestLove, @BlackThought, and @DJAMLives (18:41). The fellas discuss racial tensions and the temperamental political climate in Philly (24:22) as Cosmo expands on his verbal interaction with @JoeMaz on Twitter (29:55). Cosmo later explains how the infamous @ItsTheRub party in Brooklyn started with co-founders @DJAyres and @DJEleven (1:03:35) and their legendary Mash-Up Compilation #ItsTheMothafuckingRemix feat. @MarkRonsom @Diplo @LowBeezy (1:08:20). The crew express how grateful they are for the culture of #HipHop and how it’s impacted every DJ's life (1:22:01). Finally, Cosmo speaks on DJing the @Do_Over for the first time (1:44:55) and his deep dive discovery into the amazing music of the mysteriously anonymous band @SaultGlobal (2:06:30).

It's been way too long! We will have new episodes coming soon! But for now, we have an older episode that got lost in the shuffle. Unlike Nas' Lost tapes, this was too good to let just disappear into the abyss. Its from February 26, 2020. It got sandwiched in between a bunch of other episodes and kinda forgotten about. We edited all the stuff that would make it dated and left in an hour and a half of us listening to mostly new dance music. But then the fun really started when we accidentally got into running down the best and worst sports-related rap collabs. Then, as if we hadn't already reached the apex of our podcast existence, Cosmo Baker pops in and joins in on the convo. Thanks for listening and we hope this holds you over till we drop some new episodes NEXT WEEK!
