A New Reassessment: Realism on Israel-Palestine

To conclude my series on the Israel-Palestine conflict, I look at Jewish presence in the Levant going all the way back to the Iron Age, the events leading to the founding of the modern State of Israel, its unique economic and military relationship with the US, and its long asymmetrical conflict with Palestinians. Please consider donating to help bring an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It can be confusing and complex to navigate the many charities that claim to offer direct aid in Gaza. Some recommend giving directly to family fundraisers, but investigative reports suggest some GoFundMe donations never reach the citizens they're intended to help. As for charity organizations, some smaller ones have proven to be fronts, and even some major organizations accept donations for Gaza despite not providing direct aid on the ground there. There are even calls by other charities for the Israel and US backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to be shut down because of the numerous massacres occurring at its distribution sites. Among the more trustworthy charities actually working on bringing aid to Palestinians are UNICEF, Oxfam International, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, and Palestinian Children's Relief Fund. Trek has just launched a versatile trail platform in its new Fuel. Riders here at CCM have been fans of the previous Fuel EX and the Slash enduro bikes. The new Fuel, which actually comes in three configurations, has elements of both of the preceding models as well as the 27.5” Remedy. In this episode of the Canadian Cycling Magazine Podcast, MTB editor Terry McKall speaks with three folks from Trek about the new Fuels. Ross Rushin, Trek mountain bike marketing manager, Dylan Howes, Trek mountain bike senior engineer and Trek marketing manager for Canada Taylor Cook get into the details about the expansive system for talking on all kinds of trails. The discussion turns to the project both McKall, and CCM photo editor and MTB tester Matt Stetson have been working on: a comparison between the Fuel LX model and EX one. McKall took the longer travel bike out on the trails of Vancouver Island, while Stetson played on routes in Ontario. You can check the video with McKall and Stetson's insights, after you listen to the pod.Trek offers three versions of the Fuel: EX, MX and LX. The Fuel EX and LX models both run 29” wheels. The former has a 150-mm fork and 145 mm of travel. On the LX, there's 160 mm of travel working with a 170-mm fork. Finally, the MX is a mullet bike (29” front, 27.5” rear wheel) sporting a 160-mm fork and 150 mm of rear wheel travel. To add to the lineup, there's also the new Fuel+ eMTB, which replaces the EXe. It is similarly available in EX, MX and LX versions with a new motor and battery. Find out more details about all those bikes.McKall and his guests discuss how Trek came to develop the new Fuel system and what changes designers had to make to the frame so that it could work with such a wide range of forks and travel options. They give you more information about what's required to convert from one platform to the other. Also, Howes and Rushin talk about how riding has evolved and how those changes have affected the design of the new Fuel system.

In this episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary welcomes her friend and fellow homoeopath, Jessica de Barco. Now based in Colombia and working exclusively online, Jessica shares her deep experience with one particularly powerful remedy—Cina. Often known for its role in treating intestinal worms, Cina is far more than just a parasite remedy. Jessica explains how its emotional and physical reach can make a life-changing difference, particularly for children and families. The Link Between Parasites and Emotions Jessica explains that Cina is traditionally associated with pinworms and roundworms, especially in children. Classic signs include an itchy bottom, tantrums, bedwetting, and disturbed sleep. But in practice, many children don't show those typical signs—symptoms like joint pain, headaches, or just emotional instability can also be clues. She emphasises that parasite infections are far more common than most people realise. In many cases, only one family member is affected, despite good hygiene, suggesting a deeper susceptibility. Cina as a Clearing Remedy Jessica describes Cina as a clearing remedy, useful for starting the healing process. While it might help expel worms and calm behaviour, it's often just the first step. Long-term resilience, especially gut health, requires further support with other remedies. She also shares that children with autism or ADHD seem more prone to parasite issues, making Cina even more relevant in those cases. Emotional Outbursts and Behaviour Beyond the gut, Cina is a remarkable remedy for intense emotional behaviour. Jessica often sees children with directed aggression—tantrums aimed at siblings or parents, even hitting or throwing. It's not random anger; it's reactive, sharp, and often stems from internal restlessness. Unlike remedies like Chamomilla, where the child is distressed due to pain, the Cina child is irritable from within, almost like their body is being invaded. Jessica notes this as symbolic of the parasitic presence—an energy that doesn't belong. A Memorable Case Jessica shares a case of an 8-year-old boy with bedwetting, nightmares, fidgeting, and sudden violent outbursts. The mother felt helpless and overwhelmed. After a week on Cina, he passed worms, and within five weeks, he was calmer, more expressive, and more emotionally stable. Jessica observed a physical transformation as well—the boy looked less pale and thin, had more energy, and even started thriving socially and academically. Cina opened the door to deeper healing, which continued with follow-up remedies. Beyond Worms: Cina's Other Uses Cina also supports digestive discomfort, especially spasmodic pains around the navel, worse after eating. It's useful during teething, sometimes resembling Chamomilla, but with more irritability and anger. Jessica warns that if Cina doesn't work, don't give up on homoeopathy—it just means another remedy is more suitable. Remedies like Sulphur, Calcarea Carbonica, Teucrium, or constitutional support might be needed. Jessica's key message: Cina almost always has an emotional component. If you notice intense impatience, emotional outbursts, or behavioural disturbances alongside gut issues, Cina may be the remedy that helps bring balance—not just physically, but emotionally too. Episode 159: Lycopodium - A Remedy for Digestion, Anxiety & Dyslexia – with Elisa Joulfaian

Homeopathy247 Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 23, 2025 26:56

In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes back homeopath Elisa Joulfaian for an in-depth look at the powerful remedy Lycopodium. Though not always the first remedy that comes to mind for first aid, Lycopodium is surprisingly useful in both acute and chronic situations—especially when digestive issues and anxiety are involved. Lycopodium and the Digestive System Elisa begins by highlighting Lycopodium's strong connection to digestion. It's her go-to remedy for bloating, gas, and digestive upset—especially when the pain or discomfort is focused on the right side of the body. It's also helpful when symptoms worsen between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., a key characteristic of the remedy. Lycopodium is particularly useful after heavy meals or when someone feels uncomfortably full but still wants to eat more. This paradoxical combination—a big appetite with digestive distress—is typical in Lycopodium cases. It's even suitable for colicky babies or children with gas. Confidence, Anxiety, and the Lycopodium Personality One of Lycopodium's defining emotional traits is the contrast between outward confidence and inner anxiety. Elisa describes this as someone who may appear bold or controlling but is secretly afraid of failure or rejection. This shows up frequently in children who act bossy or demanding but then hide behind their parent's leg when confronted. Adults with a Lycopodium picture may seem confident in public, but suffer from self-doubt internally. This remedy is especially helpful before public speaking or high-pressure situations where nerves take over. It's also commonly associated with reading difficulties or dyslexia, which often stem from a fear of failure. Comparing Lycopodium and Nux Vomica Mary and Elisa compare Lycopodium with another popular remedy—Nux Vomica. While both can treat digestive complaints, the emotional profiles differ. Nux Vomica types are driven, intense, and impatient, often pushing through pain or discomfort to get things done. In contrast, Lycopodium individuals are more laid-back outwardly but deeply affected by anxiety, self-doubt, and the fear of underperforming. Nux Vomica personalities also tend to overwork and overplan—even during rest or holidays—while Lycopodium people are more inclined to retreat and recover quietly, though they still want to be seen as competent. Physical and Emotional Clues to Look For Elisa explains that choosing the right remedy isn't just about physical symptoms—it's about matching those with emotional traits and patterns. She recommends looking for at least three strong indicators across physical and emotional areas. For Lycopodium, key clues include: Symptoms worse from 4–8 p.m. Right-sided issues (like eczema, pain, or throat inflammation) Gas, bloating, or overeating Anxiety around performance or failure Reading or word recall difficulties Interestingly, Lycopodium can also help with skin conditions like eczema (especially right-sided) and even facial tics or involuntary movements. A Family Favourite Remedy Elisa points out that Lycopodium is one of those rare remedies that people often return to again and again. If it suits a person constitutionally, it tends to be effective across multiple situations—whether it's a physical flare-up or emotional stress. This makes it a strong candidate for your home first aid kit. Mary adds that Lycopodium often helps clarify the picture and open the door to deeper healing. It's both versatile and transformative, especially when physical complaints are intertwined with emotional patterns. How to fight against Christian Hypocrisy. A lack of the fear of God is at the root of Chistian hypocrisy.  Cultivating a fear of God in our lives is the remedy for fighting against this sin. Thankfully, hypocrisy is a sin that we can and must confess to God. It is a sin that can be forgiven in Christ. Okay friends, confession time: I'm sitting here in my black hoodie, glasses on, looking like I just rolled out of bed (because let's be real, I kinda did), and I'm about to do something that might be brilliant or might be totally chaotic. Plot twist: I'm rereading my entire book on the podcast and calling it the I Andee Reads Between The Lines Series. Like, live. With all my current thoughts. And possibly some tangents about how I'm thinking about CMP right now. Here's What Went Down: Started with that gorgeous John Roedel poem that makes me cry every. single. time. Then I dove into reading my book's intro and had to pause because my 17-year-old daughter gave me a card last night that said "I know I can talk to you about anything and you'll always listen" and NOW I'M CRYING AGAIN. (Sorry, I'll pull myself together. Maybe. Probably not.) The Big Takeaways: Corrective parenting = Playing slots in Vegas (you might win occasionally but you're definitely losing overall) Connect Method Parenting = Smart pension fund investment (boring metaphor but CONSISTENT GROWTH, baby!) You already have everything you need inside you (I'm not being woo-woo, I promise, I just know you're AMAZING!!!!) What's Coming Next:Part 1: Get Ready to Go Against Tradition (aka why everything you learned about parenting might be backwards)Part 2: Understanding Your Own Behavior (spoiler: it's not actually about the kids

As Catholics, we are called to not only accept the tenets of the Catholic Faith, but to approach all facets of our lives with the mind of the Church. This is imperative when it comes to Holy Communion. As the greatest sacrament that God has offered to us, we must not presume that we are simply entitled to it nor that we can ever “earn” it. Rather, in keeping with mind of the Church, we should always appreciate that it is a great gift bestowed upon us by God out of His infinite love for us.
