Today, a fun trip down memory lane! Lots of things have shaped my life and work as an ecologist, and this experience when I was 25 was one of them. As I wrapped up my master's degree at the University of Durham in England, I was hired onto a grey seal project on some tiny, uninhabited islands off the coast of Scotland. While I was there, I recorded the seals and the six weeks of fieldwork on my Walkman cassette recorder. I had no idea I’d be digging into those archives 32 years later! He's got a couple of records upcoming, too, set for release in the coming weeks: One is archival from 1994, previously unreleased material from an embryonic stage of LHP's evolution as a songwriter he's calling "1994: The Lost Tapes." Then "The After Party Sessions" features live recordings from night shows at various trucking events over the last several years, most held in the custom-outfitted venue trailer of Brandon Carpenter that is the Old Iron Bar. Off the top of the podcast, a bit of taste of that live record via a track that is the very first of Marhoefer's we ever heard at Overdrive, when he competed in Overdrive's Trucker Talent Search music competition more than 10 years ago now: https://overdriveonline.com/14888649 He'd go on to place second that year. And his star rose so quickly among owner-operators and drivers in the aftermath that he never competed again -- no doubt in our minds he'd have won it had he. But he became a real fixture in performances around the competitors after that, alongside copious writing and reporting he's done for Overdrive since, all with a clear desire to tell the stories of others with care, with faith to the their voices and no small sense of empathy for the struggles we all endure. Thanks to some subscribers to this podcast, an apparent effort to cast doubt onto the 2023 Las Vegas alien incident has been uncovered. A person representing himself as someone with a great interest in the case has, for more than a year now, been submitting various images to the podcast host that he said were discovered within the 1-minute and 41-second-long cellphone footage filmed by the Kenmore family of Las Vegas. The most stunning material submitted by this person showed a very detailed still image of what appears to be a reptilian alien. Thanks to the eagle eye of one of the podcast's subscribers, however, the image was a drawing extracted from an episode of a series called “Lost Tapes,” which ran on cable channel Animal Planet. Recently there has been a renewed interest in the Son of Sam Case in the form of documentaries, the latest by NETFLIX. Inspired by the sworn testimony of UFO whistleblowers, Congress is grappling with legislation designed to force the disclosure of materials, craft, and bodies allegedly collected from crash sites. The current wave of whistleblowers is not the first to spill secrets about UFO crashes and reverse engineering efforts by military contractors. In 1997, a high-ranking Army Intelligence official Colonel Phillip Corso shocked the world with his account about a Pentagon office charged with dribbling bits and pieces of alien technology out to major corporations and labs. The tech, Corso said, came from crashes near Roswell New Mexico. Corso's book "The Day After Roswell" became a huge bestseller in 1997, the 50th anniversary of the Roswell events.  But five years before he released a book, long before he was known to anyone in the UFO field, Corso told his story to George Knapp. Corso also sat down for two lengthy interviews conducted by personnel associated with NIDS, the National Institute for Discovery Science.
