Come in and know me, slenderman! It's Day 9 of the 25 Days of A Christmas Carol and today, we're looking the Walt Disney produced, Robert Zemeckis directed A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey! Wait a sec, the director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Back to the Future, teamed up with the star of Dumb and Dumber and the Mask for a fresh, energetic take on the Dickens' classic? Well color me excited. Just kidding! It's the finale of Zemeckis's motion capture trilogy where he glues little dots to real human beings faces and insists that they do "acting" in front of a green screen. Then after he turns all the "acting" into computer generated NPC characters from a Sega Dreamcast game. The entire thing looks like it was rendered on a Game Gear and is truly a nightmare. Thankfully, good buddy Casey Malone acquiesced to this mind-melting torture. It's the 25 Days of A Christmas Carol! I'm so tired Disney's A Christmas Carol is available to stream on Disney+ (use offer code "25Carols" to pay full price for a subscription package!) Everyone has their favorite Christmas movies, and GamerDude is no exception. In this episode, he gives his criteria for what makes a good Christmas movie, and explains why Die Hard and Lethal Weapon don't make his list. (They're great action movies that happen to be set at Christmas!) He talks about five of his favorite Christmas movies that are often overlooked, or underappreciated, which include Four Christmases, Scrooged, Arthur Christmas, Disney's A Christmas Carol, and The Polar Express, and he talks about why he likes each one. He then gives his list of five favorite Christmas movies, and talks about each: Fred Claus, Christmas Vacation, Elf, A Christmas Story, and Love, Actually. He then talks about why, for him, Love, Actually is his favorite Christmas movie, and explains why he disagrees with the critics who have found so much fault with the relationships in the movie. SPOILER ALERT: The last five minutes of this episode (which contains the defense of Love, Actually) is thick with spoilers, so if you want to avoid them, it's best to skip those last five minutes.

For Day 5 we get back on track with a real version of the original story, this time with the Robert Zemeckis directed "Disney's A Christmas Carol". Jim Carrey voices Scrooge, as well as the three ghosts, and does a pretty good job of it in this 3D animated motion-capture feature. We also get probably our scariest Jacob Marley spirit and creepiest looking Ignorance and Want too.
This week, Brent concludes our holiday excursion with a look at the third of director Robert Zemeckis' motion capture films, Disney's A Christmas Carol, which stars Jim Carrey as Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future. The conversation includes talk of motion capture technology, digital animation, and an appreciation of holiday movies. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This Episode was recorded late in my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, this was after Mousefest, and it was also the one day that my wife, Carlene, chose to join me in the parks. Since she had been in a lot of pain when walking for a while leading up to the trip she used an ECV this day, which worked out well as otherwise I would have not been able to cover so much ground going back and forth around World Showcase. I had a schedule for the World Showcase Players and knew coming into the park when they were performing, butwhat I did not know was which times were for thier "regular material" and which sets they would be doing thier special Holiday skit A Christmas Carol. So when they did their first set of the day I was there but they were performing King Arthur and the Holy Grail so we got the set times for A Christmas Carol and continued on our way. Working our way all the way around to Mexico before putting it into reverse and working our way back to the United Kingdom for this afternoon set.
