Ho ho ho said the Santa Claus baby! That's right, there's another gift under your tree, a BONUS Christmas episode with a new guest Ben Wilson! Playwright, actor and cinephile, Ben is a mega-fan of 2007's Fred Claus starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti! He loves it so much, he even learned how to play the soundtrack on piano. Fred Claus and Santa Claus have been estranged brothers for many years. Now Fred must reconcile his differences with his brother whom he believes overshadows him. When an efficiency expert assesses the workings at the North Pole and threatens to shut Santa down, Fred must help his brother to save Christmas. (Sourced from Letterboxd) Will Fred and Santa be able to resolve their differences? Can we stomach the appearance of a cursed actor or will it all fall apart like a House of Cards? And why IS there a Naughty List, Santa? Kind of a fucked up thing to create in the first place. All this and more in our bonus holiday episode!
Ho ho ho. We continue our "Tops and Bottoms December" by discussing another stinker of a film, 2007's Fred Claus. A slapstick comedy about Santa Claus' un-extraordinary and bitter older brother, this movie has some major hiccups. Amanda wasn't a huge fan, but Zach does make some compelling points. Anyways, check it out! Take a listen and don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Bluesky and Twitter. Make sure to leave a 5 star rating on Apple Podcasts. Have questions or comments? Have you seen that Christmas movie with Vince Vaughn? Not the uncomfortable one about multiple Christmases where he's in an awkward relationship with Reese Witherspoon. But the one where he plays Santa's brother, Fred?If not, then you may want to press "Play" on this one. Yes, the movie is about Christmas, but it's also much deeper than that. It gets into family dynamics (aka "dysfunction"), getting curious about people and the "WHY" behind their behavior, and showing people grace and compassion. Because sometimes...we don't need a pile of gifts under that tree. Sometimes, all we truly need is knowing that someone cares about us, and what we're going through.Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Fred Claus (Vince Vaughn) has a very famous and beloved younger sibling, Santa Claus, whom he is very resentful of. Due to financial difficulties Fred makes a deal with his brother to move to the North Pole and help Santa and the elf (John Michael Higgins) to prepare for Christmas and thus rehashing the Claus Family dysfunction.
From the beginning of time Santa's task has been to create the spirit of giving and spread it around the globe. Is it possible, however, to build the spirit of St. Nicholas so the energy powers Santa's Village and Santa's Village helps it grow? In today's episode Elf, Arthur Christmas, Fred Claus, Get Santa, Spirited, Polar Express, Tim Allen, Papa Elf, Bumble and NORAD collide. Welcome to the conclusion of The Canon of Santa Claus.
