Tonight, we find out if it is harder to last four rounds with our guest or 300 episodes with us. Verbal Shenanigans smashes pass a new milestone with a huge guest. Eric “Butterbean” Esch gives us a few minutes on the show talking about his humble starts going pro while still building mobile homes, his biggest fights in the ring, crossing over from boxing to kickboxing and wrestling, and some of the stuff he has been into after his fighting career. We also bring on our good friend, former NYPD detective, Tom Verni.  Tom is a really important voice that should be heard.  We discuss everything about the George Floyd case, from what was wrong with the arrest, to the effect it will have on policing and the country.  Tom is a really genuine guy and one of our favorite guests.  Catch him on CNN or on ID discovery.     We also talk about our idea for a movie called SpaceJail, play a game involving our toughest guests, and celebrate 300 episodes of Verbal Shenanigans.  Thank you to anyone who has supported us along the way.

Larry Holmes (born November 3, 1949) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 2002. He grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania, which led to his boxing nickname of "The Easton Assassin".Holmes, whose left jab is rated among the best in boxing history,[1] held the WBC heavyweight title from 1978 to 1983, The Ring magazine and lineal heavyweight titles from 1980 to 1985,[2] and the inaugural IBF heavyweight title from 1983 to 1985. He made 20 successful title defenses,[3][4] placing him third all time, behind only Joe Louis at 25 and Wladimir Klitschko at 22. He also holds the record for the longest individual heavyweight title streak in the modern boxing history. Holmes is one of only five boxers—along with Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks and Trevor Berbick—to defeat Muhammad Ali; he is the only one to have stopped Ali (while Ali was suffering with early Parkinson's disease).Holmes won his first 48 professional bouts, including victories over Norton, Ali, Earnie Shavers, Mike Weaver, Gerry Cooney, Tim Witherspoon, Carl Williams and Marvis Frazier. He fell one short of matching Rocky Marciano's career record of 49–0 when he lost to Michael Spinks in an upset in 1985. Holmes retired after losing a rematch to Spinks the following year, but made repeated comebacks. He was unsuccessful in three further attempts (against Mike Tyson in 1988, Evander Holyfield in 1992 and Oliver McCall in 1995) to regain the heavyweight title. Holmes fought for the final time in 2002, aged 52, against the 334lb Eric "Butterbean" Esch, and ended his career with a record of 69 wins and 6 losses.[5] He is frequently ranked as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time[6] and has been inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and World Boxing Hall of Fame. Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show, featuring YAMMA ‘Pitfighting 1’ from 2008. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez of Bloody Elbow as they relive this Pay-Per-View event this week, complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. On April 11th, 2008, YAMMA Pit Fighting 1, “2 Masters Superfights”, an eleven-fight card, with only four finishes on a card full of decisions, went down from the infamous Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersy. This was a Pay-Per-View Cable event at the time, which advertised “The Return of ‘The Russian Bear’ Oleg Taktarov and a +8-Man Heavyweight Tournament to Crown the YAMMA Heavyweight Champion”. So, the main event that night showcased Heavyweights, Travis ‘Diesel’ Wiuff, who went undefeated to take the crown that night winning three bouts during the tournament against, Marcelo Donald Pereira, Ricco Rodriguez and winning the Championship via Decision in the main event, which ended up with him going up against Chris ‘The Crowbar’ Tuchscherer, who had made it to the bout by defeating Tony Sylvester and Alexey Oleinik that night. Also on the card, we had a Co-Main which featured Patrick Smith winning with one of the four finishes that night, decimating Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch with a Submission via Punches and Elbows at just 3:17 into Round 1, and we were treated to one of our other finishes that night which showcased Oleg ‘The Russian Bear’ Taktarov in his return, which would turn out to actually be his last professional fight. He went up against Mark ‘The Smashing Machine’ Kerr and swiftly defeated him via a Kneebar Submission at just 1:55 into Round 1. Main Card: MAIN EVENT: Travis Wiuff DEF. Chris Tuchscherer by Unanimous Decision, 3 Rounds - 265 lbs Co-Main: Patrick Smith DEF. Eric Esch via SUB - Punches & Elbows at 3:17 of Rd 1 Travis Wiuff DEF. Characters of Boxing (And Beyond)

Eric "Butterbean" Esch has been in the news these past couple weeks. In the wake of his shocking victory over Anthony Joshua, Internet trolls compared Andy Ruiz Jr. to the legendarily tough, yet heavily overweight Butterbean. It's hard to find a bigger character in the history of boxing than Butterbean. We explore his "toughman" roots, Sega Genesis covers, Wrestlemania appearances and epic showdowns with Johnny Knoxville.  The man fought Larry Holmes in his final professional bout in 2002 and TKO'd Peter McNeeley before that. It's time to take a complete and total look at Butterbean and explore what his legacy means to boxing.

Butterbean caught my eye when I saw a youtube video called "The Legendary Power of Eric Butterbean."  I linked it up at ericzaneshow.com (click "in the news").  He's retired now, but looking back on that video, I was in awe of how hard he punched and how fast he was.  I loved talking to Eric.  He's a fantastic dude living in Alabama relaxing and making ink pens!  Check out his work by search Butterbean Eric Esch on Facebook or click the link in the "in the news" portion of my site.  Peace.
