Larken and Amanda Rose return to Outer Limits of Inner Truth to discuss the philosophy of self ownership, the illusion of authority, and their new book and live event, both titled Approaching Humanity. Larken is the author of The Most Dangerous Superstition, and together the Roses catch listeners up on their work at the Rose Channel, including the Candles in the Dark seminar that teaches people how to reach friends and family with the message of liberty without arguing or debating, along with the deep library of talks and exclusive content they offer subscribers. They then lay out the heart of Approaching Humanity, an event set for July 18th in the Sedona or Prescott, Arizona area, featuring speakers including Patrick Smith of the Disenthrall channel and James Corbett joining remotely from Japan. Where their earlier work focused on tearing down the belief that authority can ever be legitimate, this new project flips the approach and describes the positive vision instead, painting a picture of how people might treat one another and organize in a world that does not hand its judgment and conscience over to a ruling class. The conversation moves through the central argument Larken and Amanda return to often, that the world's problems are driven less by a handful of genuinely malicious people and more by the enormous number of well meaning people who fund, obey, and enforce on their behalf, and that the only power the few hold is the power the many agree to give them. They point to a cultural shift already underway, citing the public pushback police now face online, the recruitment struggles of police and military, and ordinary people questioning authority out loud for the first time, which they believe plants doubt even in those who never speak up. Together with host Ryan, the Roses explore why so many people choose what they call familiar injustice over unfamiliar freedom, the fear of imagining life behind door number two, and how the final section of the book, the Unbound World, sketches what voluntary cooperation could look like. The discussion closes on more personal ground, including Larken's own near death experience and how it made him a fearless speaker, along with references to David Icke, economist Martin Armstrong, and historical examples like Iceland and indigenous societies that functioned without centralized rule. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 11, 2026 is: saturnine SAT-er-nyne adjective Saturnine is a literary word that typically describes people who are glum and grumpy, or things that suggest or express gloom. It can also mean “slow to act or change.” // A walk in the sunshine can improve your mood significantly, raising the spirits of even the most saturnine among us. See the entry > Examples: “If he was once more cautious in interviews, coming across as a little saturnine, he's looser now, illuminated by flashes of wry humour.” — Patrick Smith, The Independent (United Kingdom), 1 Feb. 2026 Did you know? Saturnine is far—even astronomically far—from the cheeriest of words. It has a long history of describing the glum and grouchy among us, and comes ultimately from Sāturnus, name of the Roman god of agriculture, who was often depicted as a bent old man with a stern, sluggish, and sullen nature. Saturn, the ringed gas giant that is one of five planets visible to the naked eye, is of course the namesake of Sāturnus, and Saturn does indeed seem to dawdle; it requires over 29 of our Earth years to orbit the sun. The ancient Romans (like some astrologers today) believed those who are born when Saturn is rising in the sky tend toward being a Gloomy Gus or Debbie Downer. We don't know A. A. Milne's take on the influence of Saturn, but his gloomy, cynical gray donkey Eeyore is famously saturnine, a fact Eeyore himself would surely stoically accept as true if it were pointed out to him.

Patrick Smith on RV Life, Letting Go, and Building a Business from Anywhere In this episode of Living the Good Life, I'm sitting down with my friend Patrick Smith—who's currently parked near Mount Hood, living and working full-time from the road. And this isn't the “race around the country and check the boxes” version of travel. Patrick has chosen a different pace. Slower. More intentional. The kind where you actually experience where you are—and leave room for life to surprise you. We talk about some of those unexpected moments…like a simple campground change in Florida that turned into snorkeling alongside a manatee and her calf. Or the hidden natural spots near San Diego that most people drive right past. And yes—there's a raccoon-on-a-leash story from Louisiana that you just can't make up. But this conversation goes deeper than travel. Patrick shares how he started in real estate back in 1988, and how a serious car accident in 2013 shifted everything—eventually leading him into online business, systems, and building something he could run from anywhere. We also get into the reality of RV life:learning as you go, fixing things the hard way, downsizing (more than once), and figuring out what actually matters. And of course, we talk business—because freedom still needs funding. Patrick now helps businesses get found online, streamline their operations, and use tools like AI in a way that supports the work… without replacing the human connection. Because at the end of the day, some things haven't changed. Helping people matters.Relationships matter. And sometimes your “one job” is simply to make someone smile. ✨In this episode, we talk about:What “slow travel” really looks like in real lifeWhy he chose RV life instead of flying to destinationsThe unexpected moments that come from leaving room in your plansDownsizing and what you learn when you let go of “stuff”Funding life on the roadBuilding a mobile-friendly businessUsing AI as a tool (not a replacement)Why sales is really just helping peopleThe value of old-school relationship buildingThis one isn't just about RV life. It's about paying attention.Letting go of what doesn't matter. And building a life—and a business—that actually fits who you are.______________________________________________Patrick Smith helps business owners build systems that allow their companies to run smoothly—so they can reclaim their time and create a business that supports their life.Connect with Patrick Smith:https://MeetPatrickSmith.comhttps://mybizsuite.com/https://www.facebook.com/mybizsuiteLearn AI from Patrick Smith at the Anchored with Freedom Summit - https://AnchoredinFreedomSummit.comJoin the Living the Good Life FB Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LTGLCommunityContact Kimberly Henrie at https://livingthegoodlife.us/

Today, we're putting The Tonearm's needle on Toronto saxophonist Patrick Smith.Patrick has become a key player in the city's creative music scene. His new album, Words Underlined, came out in December on Lit Soc Records. It's the first release from the new label started by Sellers & Newell, a Toronto bookstore that moonlights as a music venue. Patrick recorded there with guitarist Dan Pitt and drummer Lowell Whitty. The trio plays without a bass, and the album alternates between composed pieces and full improvisations.A few episodes back, we featured a talk with Noah Franche-Nolan, who also collaborated with Dan Pitt. A link to that, and my November 2024 conversation with Dan, are both in the show notes.Patrick's here to talk about making music in the trio format, the Toronto scene, and why a bookstore was the right place to record.(The musical excerpts heard in the interview are from the album Words Underlined by The Patrick Smith Words Trio)–Dig DeeperArtist and Album:Visit Patrick Smith at patricksmithsax.com and follow him on Instagram and FacebookPurchase The Patrick Smith Words Trio's Words Underlined from Lit Soc Records, Bandcamp, or Qobuz and listen on your streaming platform of choiceListen to Patrick's fusion project Pangea: Rebirth on BandcampSellers & Newell and Lit Soc Records:Sellers & Newel Secondhand Books — Toronto's beloved College Street bookstore and performance spaceLit Soc Records on BandcampWhy this Toronto bookstore is starting its own record label — Toronto Today, November 2025Toronto bookstore is moonlighting as an underground live music venue — BlogTO, September 2021The Musicians:Dan Pitt — guitarist and composer, TorontoBetween the Lines of Dan Pitt's 'Horizontal Depths' - The Tonearm, November 2024Lowell Whitty — drummer and founding member of the Heavyweights Brass BandMentors and Influences:Mark Shim — saxophonist; Patrick's primary teacher in New YorkMark Shim at Manhattan School of MusicDave Young — Order of Canada recipient; Oscar Peterson's longtime bassist, now based in TorontoDavid Liebman — saxophonist, educator, and major post-Coltrane voiceDeveloping a Personal Saxophone Sound by David Liebman — available via J.W.
