This week on the 'Cut to The Race' podcast, Oli, Matt and Emma chat to Lawrence Barretto, Senior Writer at Formula One.    Someone who works closely with drivers and teams, getting to chat to people we can only dream of, Lawrence tells us about his career to date including stints at Autosport and Motorsport.com. He discusses how he started his role at Formula One, and what he enjoys most about the many elements of his job. He also explains what is challenging about travelling with the F1 circus.    Emma asks him if he has interviewed anyone, a driver or team, who have been particularly difficult, or awkward. The response is juicy, and Lawrence explains that sometimes he has to think on his feet. After watching the interview that Lawrence did with seven time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, Emma asks why Lewis gets such a negative response on social media despite hus success, his achievements and his involvement in inclusion and diversity within the sport. The conversation turns to the much anticipated upcoming F1 season Oli asks Lawrence if the calendar is likely to change this year due to the ongoing pandemic and we find out the impact of not having fans at the circuits has had on the sport and Lawrence's job. With the car launches in full swing,     Oli asks what team we should be watching this year, as Matt wants to know what driver line up is the strongest, and whether "super teams" are a thing. We discuss what tracks are a "must go to" and what circuits Lawrence would want to see back on the calendar.    Matt also asks Lawrence on his thoughts about the CEO of Rich Energy, William Storey, trying to make a return to F1. Is it all hot air or should we have take him seriously? While we discuss this, William Storey tweets the Nerds and ignites the rumour mill again.    Finally Emma wants to know about his shoe collection, which is now famous around the paddock, and Matt probes Lawrence on his Instagram bio, where he states he is a "burger connoisseur".Give this a listen for top tips of where to find the best burger joints around the F1 circuits.   Follow FormulaNerds www.Facebook.com/FormulaNerds www.twitter.com/FormulaNerds www.instagram.com/FormulaNerds www.formulanerds.com

Join me for a week-long luxury retreat in Bali this October and learn to meditate amidst the beauty and spirit of Bali – go to lilab.life/baliretreat to learn more! In 2010, Emma Ferris had what she describes as her ‘handbrake moment’. It was a moment that would make her question everything she believed she knew as a clinical physiotherapist and wellbeing practitioner. And on a personal level, it nearly brought her to her knees. The discovery and learning that Emma undertook to get through some very tough times would lead her to discover what true wellness looks like and the critical link between effective breathing and health and happiness. Today, Emma Ferris is the trailblazer behind The Butterfly Effect. She is a wellness architect, a breath geek and someone who is truly, madly, deeply committed to teaching the world to breathe effectively. Emma is the creator of The Big Exhale breathing course, a public speaker, an acupuncturist, a Pilates instructor and a registered physiotherapist with over 12 years’ clinical experience. Emma’s straightforward, yet empathetic approach has seen her help people around the globe realise the power of effective breathing. Emma has helped patients recover from dysfunctional breathing patterns, injury, stress, chronic fatigue, hyperventilation, depression and chronic neck and back pain. I joined Emma in her hometown ofbreath-basedNew Zealand a small isolated town at the end of a road and at the top of a lake. We talk about the stages of life we work towards and expect to occur and the stress and drive we can put ourselves through in order to achieve success. Often it is only when something extreme happens that we consider and look for another way to live. For Emma, this was suffering Hyperemesis gravidarum during the pregnancies of her two children. A severe and debilitating form of morning sickness. Emma is my first guest to not be a meditation teacher or student of Ascension meditation and we discuss the differences between various styles of meditation and I share with Emma a bit about how Ascension works. Emma shares how for her it was through focusing on a breath based practice that she was able to find calm, by focusing on calming her body first it then allowed her to calm her mind and we discuss in more depth the mind-body connection. We discuss the myth that meditation needs to require a form of suffering which must be broken through in order to experience peace found on the other side. Emma shares how the breath and poor breathing patterns take a toll on the body’s blood chemistry. And how it is possible to breathe your way into joy! “If you can harness the power of your breath, you can harness a life of vibrant health and happiness.” Emma Ferris The Butterfly Effect provides breathing training (and retraining) to transform physical and mental wellbeing. We talk about ecstatic dance and the energy and meditative effect that dance can have and our own experiences with it - including my tendency to get angry when dancing! And then also another time when I was so Zenned out from dancing that I drove my scooter into a fence in Bali! Finally Emma shares a simple secret for happiness - SMILING! If you would like to try Emma’s program to discover more calm, focus and joy through better breathing, you can sign up to her 30-day program The Big Exhale - www.thebigexhale.com The first 5 days are free and then you can use the promo code: LilaB to get $30 off the rest of the course - Thank you, Emma, for that beautiful gift! This month we focus on the UK and European economies. Three key forces have ensured strong growth from most European markets so far this year, but structural flaws still need to be addressed. Holly Cook and Morningstar’s senior analyst Jose Garcia Zarate discuss this very issue and more. Turning to the UK specifically, Morningstar took to the streets to find out from the public what their views were on how well they feel the UK economy is doing. So sentiment about the UK economy is still fairly confident but of course there are some concerns about rising property prices. We return to Holly Cook and Jose Garcia Zarate who discuss the UK economy in more detail. Also Morningstar editor Emma Wall about how the falling oil price has pushed down inflation in the UK. Finally Emma wraps up our podcast with an interview with Michael Hulme, manager of the Carmignac Portfolio Commodities Fund on his predictions concerning the current economic trends and how they may affect oil and gold prices.
