On this edition of The Will Cain Show's Friday sports episode, Will is joined by 'Sports Illustrated' Senior Writer and NBA Analyst, Chris Mannix to break down the evolving landscape of the NBA, the rise of parity, and whether the Oklahoma City Thunder are building a quiet dynasty. Will and Mannix also dive into the Mavericks' shocking lottery win and what Cooper Flagg's arrival could mean for Dallas's future. They debate the long-term ceiling of Flagg, whether he'd be worth trading for a proven star like Giannis Antetokounmpo, and how today's NBA front offices are starting to think in windows, not dynasties. They finish it all off with an expert level NBA trivia quiz that will have you questioning your knowledge of the Association. Can you do better than Will and Mannix? We're back—and now streaming on hockeyhotstove.com! In this episode, we break down the highs, lows, and head-scratchers of the Leafs' playoff performance, as they are in the thick of it versus the Florida Panthers in this 2nd round series. Joseph Woll has been thrown into the fire with a tough goaltending assignment, while the team continues to struggle with scoring in key moments. Penalties sure disrupted the Leafs momentum in game 4, and Auston Matthews is getting heat despite his strong defensive play, but Tanev's toughness has been a game-changer—and we're here for it! The Leafs as a unit will need to take their cue from this tenacious D'man if they hope to come out on top in this now best of three showdown. We also shine a light on the community side of the game. We were delighted to have welcomed Ultimate Leafs Fan Mike Wilson on with us to talk about an important fundraising initiative he is championing in support of a cure for ALS; one that that hockey fans will definitely want to get involved with! Of course, while he was with us we also got his thoughts on the Leafs vs Panthers series, and chatted about his experiences following the Blue and White on the road. We could've talked to Mike for hours, as he has some incredible stories! The playoffs are all about momentum swings, and the Leafs have allowed the Panthers to get some. A quick start and taking our game to them will be the key to getting it back. Go Leafs Go! The Toronto Maple Leafs are just one win away from sending the Ottawa Senators packing, and in this episode, we're breaking down all the action. The Leafs' have so far showed a lot of composure under pressure and seem to have taken Coach Berube's message to heart. Add strong defensive play and elite goaltending to this mix and you have what should be a recipe for success in this first round and hopefully the makings of a long playoff run. But it's not all smooth sailing. We've been talking for some time about the critical importance of depth scoring if the Leafs hope to make a deep playoff push, and we seem to be getting some of that. But, as fans, we feel that we are still needing more from our big guns, and are looking for Matthews, Marner and Nylander to elevate their games even more. We wrap up the show with a look at a couple of the other series in progress. The playoff energy is absolutely buzzing — especially over in Montreal! With coaching strategies front and centre, we also ask the tough question: If Edmonton should fall in this first round, will it be time for a new voice behind the bench to take this team to the next level? Game 5 is now upon us and its crunch time for the Leafs! If we are to believe that the ghosts of the past have gone and they've truly bought in to Berube's process, it's time to change the narrative. It's felt a little different so far, so for now we are choosing to Beleaf! Go Leafs Go!

In the latest episode of The Voice of Retail, host Michael LeBlanc sits down with Phil Wahba, Senior Writer at Fortune, to explore the ever-evolving landscape of retail leadership, consumer behavior, and strategic transformations. Wahba reflects on more than a decade covering retail bankruptcies, leadership shifts, and innovation, highlighting that while consumer desires have remained relatively stable—good value, seamless experiences, and quality products—retailers often struggle to meet these expectations consistently.Wahba shares insights into how some of the biggest names in retail excel by focusing on core strengths. He points to Costco and Walmart as prime examples of companies that continue to thrive by relentlessly pursuing operational efficiency, value pricing, and consistent store execution. In contrast, many department stores have downsized or disappeared because, as Wahba puts it, they “chased the wrong rabbits”—pursuing short-term gains over long-term brand definition. Dillard's stands out by maintaining steady store counts and focusing on a solid merchandising strategy, proving that success hinges on knowing your customer and offering them a clear reason to shop. The conversation then shifts to Hudson's Bay and its recent struggles, which Wahba attributes to a lack of focus on fundamental retail principles and a greater emphasis on real estate extraction. He also touches on the broader implications of retail real estate vacancies, noting that large anchor-store spaces often require creative repurposing—whether converted into smaller retail footprints, medical clinics, or mixed-use developments.Looking ahead, Wahba anticipates a future where technology plays a more backstage role, with the spotlight on operational improvements such as inventory management, demand forecasting, and smoother omnichannel experiences. Shoppers do not seek flashy tech for its own sake; rather, they want frictionless pathways to purchase. The episode also explores how retailers like Foot Locker and Gap might engineer turnarounds under new leadership, taking cues from successful transformations at brands like Abercrombie & Fitch.Wahba underscores that retail “winners” will be those that evolve with shifting consumer expectations while staying true to foundational principles: consistently fair pricing, well-curated inventory, and reliable customer service. The conversation wraps up with a look at up-and-coming brands and international retailers—including Uniqlo—that could make bigger U.S. expansions in the coming years if they adapt carefully to the market's nuances.Whether you're watching for the next big turnaround or seeking to understand why some iconic names falter, this episode offers deep insights into the interplay of leadership, strategy, and consumer loyalty—critical elements shaping the future of modern retail.
