September 7, 2018 One of the finest albums of the fall season that deserves space in your autumn playlist (right alongside everything Sabbath & Zeppelin) is PIG DESTROYER's 2018 work of grindcore perfection, HEAD CAGE. While the Alexandria, Virginia based grind lords are one of the most recognized bands of the genre, HEAD CAGE has a more “mainstream” sound that could best be described as a convergence of 80's & 90's thrash with an infusion of hard core and doom textures as well as subtle hints of industrial sampling and modern metal, packing a veritable “buffet” of jaw droppingly sick riffs into each and every song, resulting in a complete work that's so satisfying it's virtually impossible to not listen to on perpetual repeat. Hold off on consuming those “big fruity drinks” until after you've heard our brand new “health advice” segment, including an acknowledgement of “Sober October”, a breaking news update impacting the nymphomaniac community, as well as our ongoing debate regarding “which itch is worst?”. Get ready to learn the identity of the individual responsible for every outgoing answering machine message in the 80's (not to mention the spoken word intro to “Prowler in the Yard”), discover the hidden dangers of banana peels at funerals and JOIN US as we dive into one of the finest moments ever chronicled in the history of metal and unlock the secrets hidden within PIG DESTROYER's HEAD CAGE. Drummer Adam Jarvis of Pig Destroyer,Misery Index, Scour, Asthma Castle, & Fulgora (to name a few) talks breathing when playing intense music, our mutual fascination with drummer Ash Pearson, "Squeezin'" in some notes, the confusing parts of PD's Prowler in the Yard record and the process of demoing songs written by Scott Hull, recording Head Cage with Will Putney, recalling the first time he heard Pantera, seeing Metallica live, zodiac drumming, Jim Morrison as a prophet, Keith Richards as a vampire, John Bonham as a 50 year old teenager, and a whole lot more! https://pigdestroyer.bandcamp.com/ https://miseryindex.bandcamp.com/ https://scourofficial.bandcamp.com/ https://fulgoramusic.bandcamp.com/ https://asthmacastle.bandcamp.com/
After a six year period of absence, Pig Destroyer deployed their sixth full-length record, “Head Cage” this past fall. In addition to their signature brand of blistering death-grind, “Head Cage” hints at subtle expansions into the realm of noise rock and more traditional “rock ‘n’ roll” styling.I caught up with the band in the green room on the night of their record release show at Gramercy Theater in New York City this past fall. Usually, I try to limit the conversation to a maximum of three guys, but this time around I was able to get words in from the whole band. It was a little chaotic at times, but still a lot of fun.Check out Pig Destroyer’s new full-length “Head Cage” available on Relapse RecordsIntro: “House of Snakes” – Pig Destroyer off of “Head Cage”Outro: “Circle River” – Pig Destroyer off of “Head Cage” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Blake Harrison of Pig Destroyer guests this week. We discuss the lengthy break between the band's new album Head Cage and Book Burner (2012), if the title of the record contains any messages about modern society, how a Pig Destroyer show has become an event for our genre, how they got on the Showtime promo for the new Twin Peaks series (while we fanboy hard on David Lynch's career), playing “Natasha” in its entirety and if there is a demand for that song, his thoughts on doing a Pig Destroyer live record, and turning down an offer to do Prowler in the Yard in it's entirety (and his take on that general phenomenon). Also this week MetalSucks co-founder Axl Rosenberg calls in to discuss his perfect score for Head Cage, the comments and reviews he's been reading about it and his thoughts on the rest of Pig Destroyer's discography, which Petar unfairly makes him rank on the spot. Petar and Brandon create an ad for the splendid new Atreyu song, discuss Brent Hinds' comments about metal being "the most brutal job" he's ever had (and Devin Townsend's response), the Sword's recently-announced hiatus, and our thoughts on the cruel realities of being a non-stop touring musician in 2018. Songs: Pig Destroyer - “Army of Cops” Pig Destroyer - “The Torture Fields” Pig Destroyer - “Mt. Skull”
In episode 11, let me stop you right there- it’s the Pig Destroyer episode. Pig Destroyer super-fan Jon, takes the crew into his journey of listening to the album, Head Cage, and shares a story of the “band-cestuous” connection between Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed. We also round up the notable releases from week ending 9.07.18, such as Set Sights, Boston Manor, Graduating Life, Takers Leavers and much more! Today's featured music was provided by Napoleon!
