“Y'all don't have to make everything about everything…”   Time has a strange way of playing with the mind and blurring perceptions. For example, 24 years is effectively a quarter of a century, and while that sounds like a pretty vast swath of time, in reality it is merely a tiny speck in the grand scheme of the endless universe. To put it another way, as of the date of this episode in 2025, it has been the same amount of time (24 years) since 2001, which included the launch of Wikipedia, the September 11th attacks, and the very first iPod by Apple.   In keeping with the relativity of time, NATIVITY IN BLACK: A TRIBUTE TO BLACK SABBATH was released way back in 1994, a whopping 24 years after the groundbreaking eponymous debut from Birmingham's founding fathers of metal. This week on the podcast I had the privilege on sitting down and chatting to father of 2, Adrian Szonyi. Adrian takes us through the story of his eldest son, Leon. At just 6 months, Leon was rushed into emergency brain surgery for a rare condition called hydrocephalus (swelling of the brain). He needed immediate brain surgery to insert a shunt to regulate the fluid. Five brain surgeries resulted in Leon having hemiplegia, limiting his mobility on his left side. He was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Adrian takes me through the challenges but also the amazing steps Leon has made and how proud he is of Leon. An absolutely amazing chat! To be clear it doesn't matter if the federal government was shut down or not. They already do nothing and have done nothing for many years. This problem didn't start yesterday.That is the Island where the town of Buxton is. The water has moved +2000 feet. That's almost half a mile. The water line was much further away that that when most of these homes and businesses were built in the 50s to 90s. It moved the last 147 feet in a few days after Hurricane Erin broke the last jetty. NO ONE built their house on the beach, much less next to the water. That would not even be legal.Picture from 2009Some of the large “homes” you see falling in the water are not homes they are motel units that many people stayed in. These businesses are also washing away.The beach is gone and unusable as it is now full of dangerous debris. You can see broken concrete because these structures were on concrete in the town not on the beach. The beach has moved because of rapid man made erosion.
