A powerful lyric can contain the essence of an entire therapeutic reframe.Songs as metaphors. The storyline can become a structure for communicating ideas about relationships, addiction, opportunity, resilience or change.Music as an anchor. A song already carrying emotional significance could be connected to a new empowering meaning so that hearing it again triggers hope, possibility or resourcefulness.Songs as hypnotic training. Studying phrasing, rhythm, pacing, imagery, inflection and cadence could help therapists become more compelling communicators.They also explore an important warning: if music influences emotional states, that influence isn't automatically positive. Repeatedly listening to music that reinforces hopelessness, anger or disempowering beliefs may potentially strengthen the very state someone is experiencing.Ultimately, the episode challenges the idea that useful metaphors have to come from books, mythology or traditional therapeutic stories. A three-minute song can contain characters, conflict, emotion, transformation and meaning — essentially a miniature movie for the mind.And perhaps the biggest lesson is that there doesn't have to be one “correct” interpretation. Vroeger was alles beter, dat weet iedereen. Twintig jaar geleden werd de debuutplaat Count Your Blessings van Bring Me The Horizon terecht weggezet als een vergetelijk broddelwerk en kon je kopie van het videospel Grand Theft Auto ook als onderzetter gebruikt worden. Anno 2026 stopt Sony met het uitbrengen van media op cd (nota bene het format dat het zelf uitgevonden heeft) en mag Bring Me The Horizon op het prestigieuze Outbreak Fest geschiedenis vervalsen met een integrale vertoning van haar debuut. Gelukkig verandert er al jaren niets aan de zuurgraad van Osmium - de zwaarste podcast in het Nederlands - en worden deze twee ontwikkelingen uitgebreid besproken. De rehabilitatie van Count Your Blessings is symptomatisch voor de recente heropleving van scenemuziek die zich aandient als de natuurlijke opvolger van de nu-metalrevival. Maar wie beschikt eigenlijk over het sociale kapitaal om te bepalen wanneer verguisde muziek ineens weer goed mag zijn, en moeten we zo'n herschrijving van de canon zonder meer accepteren? Tegelijk dreigt met het verdwijnen van de cd ook de zeggenschap van luisteraars over hun muziekcollectie verder af te nemen. Wie de toegang tot muziek controleert, kan immers ook bepalen wat beschikbaar blijft, terwijl zonder fysieke dragers een betaalbare tweedehandsmarkt langzaam verdwijnt. Bij games leidt die ontwikkeling tot discussie over bezit, licenties en conservering. Is de economische realiteit voor muziek werkelijk anders, of staat dit ons ook te wachten? LOUIS – Oli Sykes, the lead singer of British rock band Bring Me the Horizon, says he suffered a mild concussion after an audience member apparently threw a phone that struck him onstage Monday evening at the Enterprise Center. A video shared by BMTH News, a platform that promotes the band, showed a phone striking Sykes on the left side of his head as the band performed a tune called “Happy Song.” “Who the f*** just threw a phone at my f*****g head?” said Sykes, following the completion of “Happy Song,” visibly distraught after he was struck. The video later shows Sykes handing the phone to a security worker. He also appeared to check his hands for blood and paused several times during the next song to rub his head. According to a Billboard report, on Tuesday, Sykes shared an update on his condition Tuesday via an Instagram story. “Alright everyone, just wanted to let you know I'm all good,” said Sykes. “The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling's gone down a decent amount already.” (Fox 2 St. Louis)

We talk about the very real pushback they got from traditional hardcore bands for wearing tight pants, why they skipped the "paying your dues" phase, and a wild story about a lost Skrillex remix that never saw the light of day. We also get into the current state of songwriting and the uncomfortable reality of AI tools pushing pop artists to either innovate or be replaced. "We were in that phase of wearing tight jeans, girl pants... we were kind of in a heavier scene, and so there was still hardcore bands that weren't really into that at all. We got a lot of pushback and hate because of that." "AI highlighted to me how formulated pop music actually is. And I think what it's forcing actual big pop artists to do now is to push the boundaries and mix it up more, because if they don't, they will be replaced by AI."
