Send us a textWe're joined by guitarist and founding member Maik Weichert of German metal titans Heaven Shall Burn, as the band returns with their latest and most striking release to date—Heimat. Known for fusing unrelenting heaviness with deep social and political themes, Heaven Shall Burn once again proves why they've remained one of the most respected voices in modern metal. In this conversation, Maik dives into the broader meaning behind Heimat—an album that expands on the idea of “home” beyond geography. It reflects on both the physical homelands of different people and the spiritual sense of home—something that shapes identity, drives belief, and influences how we move through the world. It's a bold, thoughtful take that reinforces the band's commitment to making music with purpose. After more than two decades as a band, maintaining urgency and relevance is no small feat, but Heaven Shall Burn continues to evolve without compromising their message or power.AOTY contender, Heimat is out now worldwide via Century Media Records. This week, I conclude my three-part series celebrating the best albums of 2024 and reveal my favourite release of 2024. As is now our standing tradition, I am joined by Mike Hill. Mike is a fellow Horseman of the Podcasting Apocalypse, a member of Tombs, Scorpio Throne and Begotten Sun and the host of the Everything Went Black and Necromaniacs podcasts. PLUS, in my weekly news rant: Rivers of Nihil turn in another slab of hot garbage, while posers across the globe bleat: “AOTY 2025!” in unison. Soulcrusher Festival's recent cancellation of Akhlys highlights the need for bands to protect themselves contractually from the predations of our self-appointed moral superiors. And I share my first impressions of new tracks by Benediction, Grab, Cryptosis and others. We'll be joined by AKA Special Request for a conversation at 1pm in the British Library's Knowledge Centre. Taganistas get a 20% off code. Skive work and pop down? We'll have a few No Tags books for sale too.If you're enjoying No Tags, that's just GREAT. We really love making it. Why not rate, review and subscribe on your podcast app of choice? For this year's annual March Madness tournament of albums celebrating significant anniversaries, the show's listeners voted (in the JFH Podcast Facebook Group) to have four years' of albums compete against each other: 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2015. Listeners will be voting on the best albums in a bracket-style series of polls in the Facebook group, but for this episode, JFH staff writers Chase Tremaine, Scott Fryberger, Josh Balogh, and Evan Dickens have assembled to narrow down the hundreds of eligible albums to the 32 that listeners will be voting on. This episode is sponsored by CALLED (also known as CALLED MUSIC), whose new single "He Leads Me" is available now. Click here for more information. The ball boys are bouncing around the globe hitting all our favorite 500's and eating up the results and insane trick shots. We talk the Dallas Open which is hotter than ever as a 500 and on the heels of Queen B winning AOTY at last week's Grammys. Plus we honor two timing broads - that's a bad girls club we want to join - and Paul and Matthew almost come to blows over calls the chair umpires are just plain blowing. And we are both applying for the new job of Official Ball Czar.
Was Beyonce winning the AOTY a little too late? We also pay homage to hip-hop producer/executive Irv Gotti who passed away last week. The post Did Beyonce Get What She Deserved? appeared first on KUT & KUTX Studios -- Podcasts.

I know a lot about historic Hollywood feuds. I could do an entire episode just on the magazine covers featuring Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher, and Debbie Reynolds circa 1959. But to do any episode on Celebrity Feuds right — particularly one that airs just days before Kendrick Lamar performs at the Super Bowl — I knew I needed a different sort of celebrity feud expert. When Joel Anderson, host of three blockbuster seasons of Slow Burn (including a canonical one on Biggie + Tupac), agreed to come on the show, I legitimately let out a little scream of delight. He has so much knowledge, context, and perspective; this episode is a dream come true. ***Note: This episode was recorded before the Grammys, and we didn't correctly predict Beyonce's AOTY win nor Kendrick Lamar's FIVE awards for “Not Like Us.”***Join the ranks of paid subscribers and get bonus content, access to the discussion threads, ad-free episodes, and the knowledge that you're supporting an indie pod trying to make its way in the world. Jayden Sheridan was just 17 years old when he found out he was going to be a father, and immediately he knew he needed to give his son better opportunities than he had.Growing up in regional Victoria, Jayden experienced homelessness, substance abuse, violence and a general lack of direction. He had no male role models in his life, but he did have the local skate park. It's where he went to feel safe and to feel himself, and Jayden wanted to create that same feeling for his son, and all the other kids in his town of Seymour. What started as adhoc skate lessons quickly turned into Gnarly Neighbours, something far bigger and more impactful than 17-year-old Jayden could have imagined. This episode of Conversations explores substance abuse, drug use, drug dealing, expulsion, troubled children, mental health, bipolar disorder, teen parenting, teen fatherhood, teen motherhood, skateboarding, skating, streetwear, origin stories, family dynamics, male role models, father figures, dysfunctional families, single parenting, rural and regional Australia.

Steven and Ian begin this week's episode with some shocking news: It looks like Steven is going to win the Fantasy Albums Draft this quarter (1:57)! Big help comes courtesy of new albums out today from Michael Kiwanuka and Kim Deal of the Breeders, which have been very well reviewed. Then the guys talk about candidates for "Album Of The Year" according to critical consensus, including Charli XCX's Brat, Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, MJ Lenderman's Manning Fireworks, and Cindy Lee's Diamond Jubilee (13:00). Then they dive into the new album from Father John Misty, Mahashmashana, and how it compares to his previous records (32:25).In the mailbag, the guys address one of their all-time best questions: Who is the most "dudes rock" quarterback of all time (45:24)?In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the Philly indie band 22° Halo while Steven stumps for the cult singer-songwriter Lee Baggett (56:11).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday.
