When a visit to a memory care facility turns into a brainstorming session for the ultimate Gen X Retirement Home "in the year of our lord Dolly Parton 2026"... This week on Laugh Lines, Penn and I reflect on a visit with his mom and find ourselves imagining a future filled with Oregon Trail reenactments, Running Man lessons, prank calls, and Pantera during music hour. We talk about the surprising connection between music and memory, why laughter and grief often show up together, and what we'd want waiting for us in our own retirement community. We also dive into a conversation about aging after someone on the internet suggested my eyebrows needed help. That leads to a bigger discussion about beauty standards, the pressure women feel to age "correctly," and why it's so hard to stop caring what other people think. We also explore women supporting women, the loneliness epidemic among men, and what healthy community and connection might look like for all of us. Plus a walk down memory lane with Mr. Microphone, if we should do a psychic podcast, and more Gen X nostalgia. Laugh Liners, don't forget your homework assignments! We love to hear from you! (2) James Tabor investigates the mysterious name "Pantera" (or Panta) found in early rabbinic sources, which refer to Jesus as "Yeshua bin Pantera." He explores historical evidence to determine if this was a family name or a specific individual, noting a Roman soldier's tombstone found in Germany belonging to Julius Abdes Pantera. While later critics used the name to suggest Mary was seduced by a soldier, Tabor posits a different historical possibility: Panteramay have been a Jewish youth and relative known to Mary's family who was later impressed into Roman military service.1492

“Would it be fair to say that horror metal and death metal are kinda…symbiotic?” Released May 25, 1987, SCREAM BLOODY GORE, the debut album from Florida death metal pioneers DEATH, marks a dark and transformative turning point from thrash metal into something else…something with “thrash overtones” that “sounds like thrash” but also doesn't. While it seemed to be the next logical evolutionary step for extreme metal, we weren't exactly sure what it was. It was still thrashy, yet there was a much darker presence to it than the thrash to which we were accustomed. “They don't have the cookie monster vocals, which is kinda nice…” As it turns out, when you mix in the violent themes of horror movies like ‘Evil Dead' with the sonic intensity of thrash metal, you end up with death metal, the genre which Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH helped establish in the mid 1980's, putting Florida on the map as the death metal capital of the world. “They just have a sound…if you take the vocals out, you can tell it's Death.” Discover how immersion reading can make Dr. Seuss and Lord of the Rings even more compelling, always remember where you should “NEVER put alcohol…”, and find out which song on this album was “renamed” (thanks to the PMRC) when you JOIN US (with special guest “Xander Bonerman”) as we explore the dark depths of the debut album from the band that revolutionized extreme metal by launching a brand new subgenre of horror infused thrash with DEATH and SCREAM BLOODY GORE. We've been living on the road and in the pit! This week on The Heavy Metal Hangover, Rex and Duff are breaking down our thoughts on some killer recent live shows, including the high-octane thrash of Death Angel and the hilarious, riff-heavy spectacle of Steel Panther. If you want to know who still delivers the goods live in 2026, we've got your front-row report. Then, we are shifting gears into the ultimate temple of groove. Rex recently went back to school, relistening to the entire Pantera discography from top to bottom—including the legendary live albums. We're breaking down how the albums hold up today, the evolution from Cowboys from Hell to Reinventing the Steel, and why their live recordings capture a level of sheer, hostile energy that few bands have ever matched. Crack open a cold one, turn the volume up to 11, and let's get vulgar!
Steve Beres and Ike Goss open the Underpowered Hour with Land Rover news, including a UK pastor caught using a cellphone while driving who avoids disqualification by arguing his congregation would suffer without him, and JLR's CEO signaling renewed investment in the struggling Discovery—alongside discussion of Discovery's dog-focused “Pet Pack” accessories. They're then joined by Rebelle Rally team sponsors Aaron and Jasper of ModPro AI, who share their automotive backgrounds and the origin of their app after spending heavily to modestly increase power on a Subaru WRX. They explain ModPro AI's enthusiast community, digital garage, social features, and AI advisor that aggregates data and provides recommendations with a confidence meter, plus upcoming agentic AI improvements and plans for business profiles and groups. The guests recount touring Jay Leno's collection, seeing a Pantera, and witnessing delivery of a Leopard tank.
Berserkers!!! #metallica #M72WorldTour #FiebreAmarilla #LaGaleriaNocturna GothProds Links Spotify -https://open.spotify.com/show/2hnlgkcGNl9GOAPa0WT9HW?si=7e9b95f203464fe6 Apple Podcast — https://podcasts.apple.com/mx/podcast/goth-prods/id1606324255?l=en Amazon Music — https://music.amazon.com.mx/podcasts/d10f63b6-f4f3-4a91-b21d-d98c2b08ca01/goth-prods?ref=dm_sh_xBGgYoDaqnREmWm0IoJu5r4kd Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/Goth-Prods-104237088306624/ Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/goth_prods/ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@goth_prods

In this episode, I sit down with Yoshi Pantera to talk about Regenerative Leadership… and what it actually looks like in practice. We explore how this way of thinking applies directly to the work we're doing with Exit & Build… and the kind of communities we're trying to create. We get into: What “regenerative culture” really means Why habits and daily actions matter more than big ideas The role of community, land, and connection in building something real How spiritual and ancestral wisdom ties into modern systems What it takes to create environments where people and ecosystems actually thrive If you're serious about creating a life that's more aligned… more grounded… and actually contributes to something meaningful… This conversation is for you. We evolve over the course of a lifetime. This quartet of lifelong musicians—guitaristRichie Faulkner [Judas Priest], vocalist Ronnie Romero [Rainbow, MSG], bassist Dave Rimmer [Uriah Heep], and drummerChristopher Williams [Accept]—have rallied around a collective vision. Of course, their peerless musical pedigree providesendless fodder for creativity, but the band's commitment to collaboration is really what detonates their sonic arsenal. They'vearchitected a signature style sealed tightly by unforgettable riffing, surgically precise solos, bold grooves, and skyscrapinghooks.Exhibiting both a craftsman's attention-to-detail and an innate knack for arena-ready anthems, they push forward again ontheir second full-length offering, the aptly titled Evolution.“Finding a voice of your own as a technical player and as a songwriter is a never-ending journey,” Richie observes. “You'realways trying to strike the elusive balance between thrilling listeners and communicating with them. You Opened for Metallica. You Got MTV Airplay. So Why Does Nobody Know Your Name? The strange disappearance of Metal Church and The DarkThe Dark earned its place on the turntable the way all our episodes do: through community vote. It pulled 47% of combined Patreon and Substack poll votes, beating out Fastway, early Pantera, and Metallica to claim this week's dig. If you have an album you think deserves a closer listen, suggest it here and let the community decide. You toured with Metallica. You got MTV airplay. You peaked at #92 on the Billboard 200. So how does an album just disappear?Metal Church released The Dark in October 1986, opened for Metallica on tour, and landed Watch the Children Pray in MTV rotation. They had every ingredient for a breakthrough. And yet, most people who love 80s metal have never heard a note of this record. This week Jason, Tim, and Chip work through all eight tracks, argue about whether the second half holds up, and make the case for David Wayne as one of the most underrated vocalists in the genre. They also dig into the band's origins in the Bay Area thrash scene, their move to the Pacific Northwest, Terry Date's early engineering work, and the real (and fictional) connections to Metallica.Highlights: what makes Ton of Bricks the perfect opener (23:00), the Queensrÿche-ish shading in Watch the Children Pray (19:44), the Lars Ulrich rumor and how Vanderhoof debunked it (33:14), and the honest case that the second half sags (35:16).

Kenny Hickey As the guitarist for goth-metal icons Type O Negative, Kenny Hickey sold millions of albums and toured with everyone from Pantera to Motley Crue during the mid-1990s through the early 2000s. Today, he fronts the doom-metal supergroup Sun Dont Shine featuring members of Crowbar, Down and Type O. He joins us to discuss Sun Dont Shine's debut album, “From Birth to Death,” the band's balance of crushing power and ethereal melodies, the contrast in writing styles between himself and Kirk Windstein, and the unexpected announcement that a live Type O Negative album is in the works. Nesse Braincast, a gente faz uma coisa simples... e potencialmente caótica: uma tier list dos maiores vídeos virais brasileiros de todos os tempos. Mas com uma regra clara desde o começo:
From colonoscopies to Breckenridge, episode 211 covers a lot of ground. The crew checks the math on whether the No Kings protests have the numbers to matter, relitigates the country music discourse, and swaps first-concert stories that range from Genesis to Pantera to, yes, Air Supply. The back half goes deep on education: what's actually going on with autism diagnoses, why ADHD might just be a mismatch between how kids learn and how schools teach, and whether any of this gets fixed if we keep paying teachers $38,000 a year. Patty from the IEP trenches joins to set everyone straight.
It's a pop up podcast! And on this episode we have our battle of the cohosts! Zakk Wylde opens up about Ozzy's final show, the 17 days that followed, Dimebag's unfinished recordings, and the making of Black Label Society's crushing new album Engines of Demolition. Topics Include: Zakk runs on 14 pots of Valhalla coffee every single day. He was invited to Back to the Beginning well in advance. Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page, and Ritchie Blackmore are mythical heroes to Zakk. No More Tears was rehearsed but Ozzy pulled it on the day. Ozzy was giddy meeting Axl Rose — couldn't believe it was happening. Zakk watched Sabbath's final set alongside Axl Rose and Sharon Osbourne. Just 17 days after the show, Ozzy passed away unexpectedly. They'd been texting memes and planning another record together right until the end. Zakk envisioned a global Back to the Beginning charity tour series. A sober Zakk and Ozzy watched their blasted crew destroy a Tokyo restaurant. Dimebag left hours of unfinished song ideas on tape for potential release. Playing Dime's solos means staying faithful — like Stevie Ray covering Hendrix. Zakk and Eddie Van Halen's amp, calling it life-altering history. Engines of Demolition was built across several years alongside the Pantera Celebration tour. Zakk confirms BLS, Zakk Sabbath, and more Pantera shows are all coming. Corey Morrissette is back with Sean and Todd for Part Two, and we're coming in hot. We pick up with a conversation about the radio industry — specifically how corporate ownership reshaped music selection and stripped DJs of the autonomy they once had to break new artists and take real risks. We talk about what it used to mean to hear a song on the radio for the first time, and how that experience has largely been replaced by pre-determined playlists built for engagement metrics rather than music discovery. On a more hopeful note, Corey shares his plans to host a show called Hoser Rock Hour on a community cooperative radio station — and honestly, the concept is exactly what radio needs more of. We also get into album-oriented rock stations and how AOR formats used to be the ones deciding which songs became singles, not the labels. It's a fascinating piece of music industry history that doesn't get talked about enough. From there we get into concert war stories, and this is where things really get going. We talk about seeing the Headpins live, with Darby Mills commanding a stage the way very few performers can. We swap memories of Pantera opening for Skid Row in Montreal — a lineup that, on paper, sounds almost too good to be true — and we get into the Killer Dwarfs, including a wild story about a vocal showdown between Sebastian Bach and Russell Dwarf that you genuinely have to hear to believe. These are the kinds of nights that remind you why live music matters. Then we take on one of rock's great what-ifs: was there actually a rivalry between Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen? Two of the greatest guitarists of their generation, both rising at exactly the same time — it's the kind of question that sounds like it should have a dramatic answer. The reality might surprise you.Things take a genuinely unexpected turn when we get into Mary Shelley's writing group — yes, that Mary Shelley — and the remarkable fact that the circle of writers who gave us Frankenstein and Dracula were all in the same room, cooking up horror together. Corey also recommends Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein film, which he found to be a faithful and beautifully crafted adaptation. It's one of those historical footnotes that sounds made up but absolutely isn't.We close things out with a look back at 1994 — one of the most stacked years in modern music history. Green Day, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Beck — we go through the releases and argue about which ones still hold up. Along the way, Seanorama drops an unexpected piece of history about Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love" that genuinely stopped the conversation cold. It's been an absolute blast having Corey on for both parts. Corrosion of Conformity takes center stage as bassist Bobby Landgraf joins Metal Mayhem ROC to break down the band's new double album Good God / Baad Man and a pivotal new chapter in the group's evolution. Landgraf details how he joined Corrosion Of Conformity through long-standing musical relationships with Pepper Keenan and the band's extended circle, stepping into the role without a formal audition. That foundation of trust carried directly into the studio, where the band built a sprawling double album through a mix of structured demos and spontaneous, full-band jam sessions. A key focus is the organic writing process behind Good God / Baad Man, including songs that emerged in real time while the band recorded together in the same room. Landgraf also discusses working alongside drummer Stanton Moore, whose groove-driven style helped shape the feel and direction of the material. Beyond the album, Landgraf shares insight from his time as a bass tech for Pantera on Metallica's 72 Seasons stadium tour, offering a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most technically demanding live productions in modern metal. With new music, a major tour cycle, and a refreshed lineup, Corrosion Of Conformity continues to evolve while staying rooted in the sound and spirit that defines the band. Don and Dude crash into the second round of March Metal Madness where glitter, hairspray, and street‑corner hooks square up against steel‑toed stomp and Texas‑born groove. Skyscraper choruses, talkbox licks, mosh‑pit breakdowns, and arena‑ready riffs drive a bracket showdown between a late‑80s glam breakthrough and the record that dragged metal out of the Sunset Strip and into a heavier, meaner decade. The Albums Skid Row – Skid Row (1989) Young Jersey upstarts turn the glam formula meaner and more grounded, stacking blue‑collar storytelling, towering Sebastian Bach vocals, and streetwise riffs into a sleek debut that feels more alleyway than catwalk.Pantera – Cowboys from Hell (1990) Former glam lifers slam the door on their past and invent their future with precision riffs, machine‑tight rhythms, and swaggering grooves that reset how heavy metal could punch, swing, and strut at the same time.Diggin' AlbumsWilliam Crighton – Further Down the Road (2026) Australian folk‑rock storyteller stretches his baritone over spacious, atmospheric arrangements that move at a slow burn, turning journeys through the outback and inner life into something that feels mystical and lived‑in.Richard Marx – Richard Marx (1987) Chart‑ready 80s pop rock in its purest form, all gleaming guitars, radio‑perfect hooks, and power ballads that prove craft and polish can still hit like personal confession.Ladytron – Paradises (2026) Liverpool synth lifers lean into bright club rhythms and detailed electronics, pairing cool, detached vocals with disco‑tinted grooves that feel like dancing through neon at the end of the world.Tommy Emmanuel – Living in the Light (2025) Fingerstyle wizardry meets song‑first warmth as Emmanuel tracks mostly live in the studio, letting ringing acoustic lines, subtle band touches, and a generous spirit turn technical fireworks into something intimate.Follow & Support Follow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing.“I detest the phrase ‘hair band' or ‘hair metal.' This week, we went out to the Firehouse backyard and dug up a time capsule from the decade when your two humble hosts met and decided to form their first band together: the sometimes amazing, sometimes confusing 1990s. The capsule revealed a collection of tunes spanning rock, punk, and metal. Robert was forced to test his endurance of the macabre and provided feedback that only Captain Content could. And all for your listening pleasure! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we talk exclusively about the 1990s and all things: grunge, alternative, goth, punk, hard rock, and everything in between. We hope that we turn you on to something new. Songs this week include: Sugartooth – “Frisbee” from The Sounds Of Solid (1996) The Mission U.K. – “Deliverance” from Carved In Sand (1990) Poster Children – “Junior Citizen” from Junior Citizen (1995) The Men – “Chuch Of Logic, Sin, & Love” from The Men (1992) Thee Hypnotics - “Heavy Liquid” from The Very Crystal Speed Machine (1993) Mind Over Four – “Funny Pocket” from Halfway Down (1993) Overwhelming Colorfast – “Arrows” from Overwhelming Colorfast (1992) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! This week on America's Podcast, the amps are cranked past 11 and the groove hits harder than a Dimebag riff.
Ever since compact discs came out in the mid-1980s, the concept of SIDE 1 and SIDE 2 on an album sort of fell by the wayside. And with this new quantum leap in technology, the entire process of consuming music began to transform. By the late 80's and early 90's, CD sales began outselling vinyl records and cassette tapes, due in large part to convenience and technological innovation, as vinyl records (albums) were limited to a maximum of 20 minutes or so per side and cassette tapes maxed out at around 30 minutes per side. But prior to compact discs, consuming music was (at a minimum) a two-step process which involved inserting the cassette into your tape deck and pressing play or placing the album on your turntable and dropping the needle to begin your music enjoyment experience. With the advent of compact discs, the maximum recording space jumped to 74 minutes, far exceeding the limitations of records and tapes, and bonus: you didn't have to flip anything over and repeat the process as all of the album tracks were included on one side (so to speak) as one complete, seamless work that systematically eliminated the technologically imposed intermission which required ejecting the cassette or removing the stylus from the album and flipping it over to SIDE TWO, as a CD version of an album quickly became a singular entity devoid of one side or another and just became one complete work (think Reign In Blood on cassette, where both sides are repeated). In the case of a near perfect album, sides didn't really matter, but what we've come to notice over the years is that SIDE TWO would sometimes be superior to SIDE ONE. Granted, this is not by any means an exact science nor is it always a guarantee, but many of the finest albums in metal history have a SIDE TWO that is much better than SIDE ONE. So, with that in mind, we invite you to JOIN US as we go through a few of our favorites to determine whether or not there is any validity to the claim that SIDE TWO IS BETTER THAN SIDE ONE. I'm your host, James Cox—a lover of music who knows firsthand how a riff can become a lifeline. In today's episode we sit down with Sean Martin, the powerhouse vocalist and guitarist behind the hard‑rock outfit The Quarantine. Sean's journey weaves together grunge grit, military grit, and raw, unapologetic honesty. From his days in the airborne infantry and covert training in Alaska and Thailand to the darker corridors of PTSD and a “temporary psychotic breakdown” that landed him in a VA inpatient program, Sean shows us how music can become both therapy and rebellion.Together we explore:Art as Therapy – how Sean turned a scathing rap‑rock track, “Nemesis,” into a cathartic outlet for trauma. The Weight of OPSEC – why soldiers often stay silent, and how breaking that silence unlocks healing.Band Identity – the meaning behind “The Quarantine” and its stance against societal other‑ization.Discipline Meets Creativity – what military rigor taught Sean about practice, improvisation, and pushing beyond the sheet music.Grunge Roots & Influences – his first connection to Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and how those sounds still echo in his writing.Lightning‑Round Favorites – from Soundgarden and Pantera to Incubus, Deftones, and even Michael Jackson, revealing the eclectic soundtrack that fuels his soul.If you've ever felt the sting of isolation, the roar of anxiety, or the need for a musical spark to pull you back from the edge, this conversation is for you. Grab your headphones, take a breath, and let Sean's story remind you that, no matter how loud the world gets, there's always a chord that can bring us back to center.Stay tuned—because when words fail, music speaks.
This week we bring you the first installment of Jarvis' interview with Carlos Cruz, a veteran drummer perhaps best known for his work in Warbringer and Powertrip. The interview begins with Carlos discussing his deep family roots in music, including his grandfather's recorded output. After a detour into the perils and hazards to the human body of playing heavy metal music for an extended period of time, and the corresponding need for self-care and treatment along the way, the interview traces Carlos' musical journey through high school cover bands to the burgeoning LA thrash movement in the early 2000s and eventually to the pivotal moment when he joined Warbringer in 2010.
