The 8th beer out of the 13 brewed for Halloween, "Twisted Tater" This was the first beer named, created, and planned for brewing when this project began. The lack of a specific and much need specialty grain kept this one from kicking off the project. It's inspired by the best food in the Halloween Horror Nights event world - Twisted Taters. It's also my first Brown Ale, a style I tend to forget I like. So do I like this one? Check out this episode "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/LTGgo1PsqHI Full Recipe (All Grain 1 Gallon): 1lb 3.6 oz Pale Malt 2-Row 6.8 oz Munich Malt 3.4 oz White Wheat Malt 2.6 oz Carapils 2.1 oz Crystal 60L 1.6 oz Crystal 15L 1.7 oz Chocolate Malt Mash for 60 minutes at 153 degrees F Boil: .1 oz Idaho #7 Hops 60 min .1 oz Willamette Hops 25 min .14 oz Cascade Hops 5 min Yeast: 3.3 gram Safbrew S-04 Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
It’s the 5th beer and it’s a fun one! “Swamp Yeti”, named after a scare actor from the Halloween Horror Nights Haunted House “Slaughter Sinema”. An unusual beer for an unusual character - A Coffee Blonde Ale! Made with coffee beans from Grovers Mill New Jersey (the site of the Martian invasion of 1938’s “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast by the way) “Swamp Yeti” should be a smooth, full flavored rich blonde ale. Is it? Check out this episode of “Is It Beer Yet” and find out! https://youtu.be/_3zNT4_ClL8 Full Recipe (All Grain 1 Gallon): 2lb 2.2 oz Maris Otter 1.8 oz Crystal 10L 6.4 oz Flaked Oats 3.2 oz Flaked Barley Mash for 60 minutes at 154 degrees F Boil: .18 Northern Brewer Hops 60 min .09 Fuggle Hops 15 min Yeast: 3.3 grams Safale US-05 After primary Fermentation: .8 oz Cacoa Nibs 5 days .8 Whole Coffee Beans 5 days (both covered with vodka to sanitize) Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
Beer number 6 is up next, and it's the style I haven't been able get a look on for years now. “Patient Zero Pale”, named after the original content house from Halloween Horror Nights 28, is a simple, straight forward Pale Ale. Or at least it should be. For years I've struggled with this style - most of the time I add too many specialty malts and too few hops. For this brew I take the George Costanza approach and do the opposite of what I think I should do while making this beer. Does that approach work? Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/MdxlQN7SPJc Full Recipe (All Grain 1 Gallon): 2lb 2.2 oz Pale Malt 2-Row 3.2 oz Crystal 80L .6 oz Carapils Mash for 60 minutes at 153 degrees F Boil: .2 oz Cascade Hops 60 min .3 oz Cascade Hops 10 min .25 oz Cascade Hops 5 min .1 oz Galaxy Hops 5 min .2 oz Cascade Hops at Flame Out Yeast: 3.3 grams Safale US-05 Yeast After 5 days of fermentation: .3 oz Galaxy Dry hop 5 days Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
Beer number 9 and the only beer making a return from a prior Halloween Horror Nights year. In 2017 I made a milk chocolate coconut porter that was a far bigger hit than I expected it could be. With 13 different beers on the line I wanted to make at least one that work out, so I dusted off last year's recipe and made "Soul Grabber" again. The name comes from the Halloween Horror Nights 27 website them of a "Soul Collector" running things behind the scenes (sorta). Did lightning strike twice with one? Check out this episode "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/874uTvMxyN0 Full Recipe (All Grain 3 Gallon): 9 lb 12 oz Pilsner Malt 9.1 oz Chocolate Malt 4.6 oz Roasted Barley 2.6 oz Black Malt 2.3 oz Crystal 60L Mash for 60 mins at 153 degrees F Boil: 1.02 oz Willamette hops 60 mins 9.7 oz Lactose Sugar 10 mins .51 oz Willamette hops 5 mins Yeast: 11g Safale US-05 Secondary: 1lb Shredded sweet coconut – toasted (5 days) 2.4 oz Cacoa nibs (5 days) Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
Lucky number 7 - "Scary Ales". No brew project can go by without me making an amber ale. It's my favorite and I'm not ashamed to say it. The name comes right from the very last attraction announced for Halloween Horror Nights 2018, the Original Content House "Scary Tales - Deadly Ever After". Amber ales will likely be a style I'll spend my whole brewing tenure trying to perfect, and in the vein this is new, adjusted recipe for this project. Did I find the one that will keep my happily ever after? Check out this episode "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/f-6Gs_Drf2c Full Recipe (All Grain 1 Gallon): 2lb 8 oz Pale Malt 2-Row 2.4 oz Caraaroma 2.4 oz Crystal 60L 1.6 oz Munich Malt 1.6 oz Carapils Mash for 60 mins at 153 degrees F Boil: .11 oz Northern Brewer Hops 60 min .12 oz Fuggle Hops 20 min Yeast: 3.3 grams Salale US-05 Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts

Beer number 4, this might be where the creative juices ran out. "Scream Ale" is a near duplicate or a beer I made earlier this year with 1 change - the yeast. So I count this as a new beer...technically. But that's not the worst of the creative dry spell. It's a cream ale. Guess how long it took to settle on the name for this one. Even with this not being the most thought out and toiled over idea, it's a still a full all-grain brew so it took as long to make as all the others. And in the end - there's a good chance I made a HUGE mistake putting this one together that might make all of this a little more interesting. How did it come out? Did I make the mistake? If so, what was that mistake? Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/qAOPZWZGju4 Full Recipe - 1 Gallon All-Grain 1 lb 2-Row Pale Malt 1 lb Pilsner Malt 3.2 oz Flaked Corn Mash for 60 min at 152 degrees F Boil: .20 Saaz hops at 60 mins .09 Hersbrucker hops at 60 mins .09 Saaz hops at 20 mins 1.6 oz Corn Sugar at 10 mins Yeast: 3.3 grams of Safale US-05 (NOT Safbrew T-58) Find us on Social Media: Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
Third beer up in the 13 beer challenge gets a little interesting. It's a style I hate, and ingredient I couldn't resist. "Kill Grease Paint" is the first beer in the challenge named and inspired by a specific attraction at Halloween Horror Nights 28 - The "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" scarezone. I wanted to make a white beer as a direct nod to the clown make up. My first idea was a White Ale. But a big part of this project along with making 13 beers to learn while I'm doing it. So I stepped out of my usually taste preference and made my first witbier - a style I have never enjoyed. It does sound weird to make a beer I don't like. But I don know a couple of people that will, it it comes out okay, and in the process maybe I learn what combinations of ingredients leads that specific taste and style and I'll learn something. In this case, what not to do (at least if I'm making the beer for myself). But that's not all in this one. There's another specific, recurring element of "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" I had to include in this beer. Cotton Candy!!! Cotton Candy is a huge part of the movie, I had to include in this beer. How did it come out? Where is the cotton candy? Do I like Witbiers yets? Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out! https://youtu.be/Q28edlO36dU Full Recipe - 1 Gallon All-Grain 2 lb German Pilsner Malt 6.4 oz Flaked Wheat 3.2 oz of Flaked Oats 2.75 Gallons Water 60 Min Mash at 154 Degrees F Boil: .15 oz Saaz hops 60 mins .15 oz Saaz hops at 30 mins .15 Sweet Orange Peek at 5 mins .8 oz Cotton Candy at 10 mins .15 oz Saaz hops at 1 min Yeast: 3.5 grams Safbrew T0-58 Find us on Social Media: Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
It’s an all new video edition of our series “Is It Beer Yet?” – the home brew podcast from neozaz.com! To start this new video series off, is “13 Beers for Halloween”. This fall I challenged myself to come up 13 different beers for this Halloween Season and try out during out annual visit to Universal Orlando Resorts Halloween Horror Nights 28. All 13 beers were inspired and named after Halloween Horror Nights 28 attractions or elements of the Halloween Horror Nights event. In this intro episode I go through the method of brewing for these 13 beers and the name and styles of the 13 beers coming in the following episodes. At this point, all 13 beers are brewed and bottled. But are they any good? That’s what we’re about to find out in “13 Beers for Halloween”! https://youtu.be/lJZcBx37sDM Find us on Social Media: Instragram - @neozaz Twitter - @neozaz Facebook - facebook.com/neozazpodcasts
