AI-powered research tools are changing how consumers shop for powersports vehicles, prompting dealers to spend more time explaining financing options and correcting misconceptions about rates, promotions and pricing. Consumers are increasingly arriving at dealerships with information gathered from online searches and AI platforms, creating both opportunities and challenges for finance managers, Fun Bike Center Motorsports Finance Manager Samer Fidy tells Auto Finance News during an episode of “The Roadmap” podcast. “They're coming to confirm the research that they've done online,” he says. At the same time, affordability remains a key factor in powersports financing decisions, with about 80% of the Lakeland, Fla., dealership's customers focused on monthly payments as they evaluate motorcycles, personal watercraft and side-by-sides, Fidy says. AI-driven shopping behavior The preparation consumers are doing is leading finance teams to engage earlier in the buying process, Fidy says. “The monthly payment is key [to] us closing the deal,” he says. While AI tools can help shoppers gather information quickly, they can also create confusion when consumers encounter financing offers, rates or promotions that do not apply to a specific brand, vehicle or lender, Fidy says. “The challenge is people are coming more prepared. They're coming with more knowledge, or they think they know more than we do.”  — Fun Bike Center Motorsports Finance Manager Samer FidyAffordability and financing options At the same time, longer loan terms, including 72- and 84-month financing options, continue to increase in powersports financing, particularly for higher-priced units such as personal watercraft, side-by-sides and premium motorcycles, Fidy says. Dealers now need to spend more time educating first-time buyers about credit, interest rates and financing structures, especially when a powersports purchase represents their first independent financing experience, he added. As AI adoption grows and consumers keep researching before entering a showroom, education is becoming a larger part of the sales and financing process, Fidy says. “I think this will be the new norm,” he says. “That's why it's important to educate your team on the importance of the dealership.”

Striding out from Surprise View, we set the historic context for the emergence of the walking guidebook – the earliest travellers seeking low-level views from Thomas West's formative Guide to the Lakes (1778), and the use of paid mountain guides, often shepherds, taking well-heeled visitors on mountain adventures. ‘Roving Laker' Harriet Martineau's Complete Guide to the English Lakes(1855) was among the first to speak to fell-walkers, Liz tells us, with an ascent description of Fairfield that was – like the woman herself – quietly revolutionary. On the long climb of Cat Gill we discuss the forgotten Victorian colossus of Keswick, Henry Irwin Jenkinson, who compiled the most authoritative guide of its era, his Practical Guide to the English Lake District (1872), in just seven winter months (he would go on to consult on mountain rescues, and organise the Latrigg Fell Mass Trespass of 1887). Entering the age of M. J. B. Baddeley, we turn to his evergreen (tiny type) Thorough Guide to The English Lake District – first published in 1880 and still selling nearly a century later. We consider the democratisation of travel, and walking, in the age of rail, and the changing nature of the guidebook, as fells received dedicated chapters and publishers augmented directions with maps. Atop breezy Walla Crag we talk about the contribution of The Rev. H. H. Symonds – committed to “rescuing scraps of natural beauty” – who published a kind of ‘campaigning guidebook' in his classic highbrow Walking in the Lake District (1933), and the very different books of his contemporary, outdoors advocate W. T. Palmer, who urged readers to get off the beaten track and take walking tours between youth hostels in his Penguin Guide, The Lake District (1939). Finally, on Falcon Crag, after a discussion of Walter Poucher's photographic guides, we arrive at the master himself, Alfred Wainwright, whose uniquely artisanal take on the format turned the guidebook into companionable pocket art. Back at Ashness Bridge, we reflect on the factors that make for the perfect guidebook – portable, easy to use, with an intuitive blend of text and imagery – and ask Liz to name her favourite guidebook; to consider where guidebooks go in the post-AW digital age; and to tell us why Steeple remains aloof in her 214 completer's list.

In this episode, Jennifer sits down with Thomas Brawner, owner and CFO of Alta Schoolhouse in Lakeland, Florida, to talk about what it really looks like to grow with intention. Thomas shares how he made the decision to overstaff his first location so he could create the space to focus on expansion, prepare for a second school, and keep the first one strong at the same time.   Their conversation gets into the real pieces behind that kind of growth: knowing your numbers, making smart tuition decisions, building a team that stays, and learning how to let go of the things that do not all have to stay on your plate. Thomas also talks about something a lot of owners overlook: how much first impressions matter, from your online presence to what families see before they ever walk through the door. ...in which we visit springtime Allan Bank to explore the forgotten phenomena of the Grasmere dialect plays – celebrations of Westmorland dialect and life that put Lakeland on the national cultural map for nearly 40 years – and the woman behind them, Eleanor Rawnsley (née Simpson), second wife of Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley. In the company of Eleanor's great-niece, Harriet Spence, and academic Sue Wilkinson, who has resurrected the plays for a modern audience, we discuss the emergence of the turn-of-the-century village drama movement and Eleanor's relocation from London to Grasmere, where she acquired a passion for local dialect. A series of clips from the plays featuring members of the Lakeland Dialect Society illustrate recurring themes: local traditions like rushbearing and pace egging; marriage proposals (and refusals); vignettes of everyday life including sheep-clipping and children's games. As Sue describes the plays' extraordinary rise in national fame – which brought queues over Dunmail Raise and reviews in papers worldwide – Harriet details the developing three-way relationship between Eleanor, Canon Rawnsley and his increasingly frail first wife, Edith. Emerging from World War II, we consider the demise of the plays, the death of Edith, and the short-lived marriage between Rawnsley and "True Help Meet" Eleanor. Harriet closes the podcast reflecting on the life of her "quiet, pious and kind" great aunt, whose achievements have been overshadowed by her husband, but who was not only a remarkable author and producer of plays, but also a formidable painter, campaigner and champion of all things Lakeland. The featured dialect play recordings feature the voices of John Campbell and Jean Scott-Smith. Women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond are crushing courses around the world. At a time when we've been preconditioned to believe we'll slow down, many women are holding strong—or even improving. This week's guest Anna Troup, 56, who has clocked many of her greatest ultrarunning feats since turning 50, is a perfect example. Last year she took first overall (including the men) at the 268-mile (430K) Montane Summer Spine race—Britain's toughest ultra marathon—in 84 hours, 56 minutes, and 37 seconds. This after a 2022 injury that left doctors questioning if she'd ever run again. This week, we talk about her most recent feat: completing the Montane Winter Spine Race this past January in 106 hours, 19 minutes, and 12 seconds—through brutal conditions including gale-force winds literally blowing runners off their feet. We dig into her journey to ultras, how she trains, races, and recovers, her menopause experience, and why more midlife women should line up and give it a go.Anna Troup took up ultra running in 2013 with the sole aim of completing the UTMB, which she did for the first time in 2014. Unexpected success followed, much of it after she turned 50, and she has since won and held course records for many of the UK's toughest single stage ultras including the Arc of Attrition 100, the Lakeland 100, Exodus 100, Wendover Woods 100, the Oner and the Summer Spine and Winter Spine. She has run the women's Fastest Known Time for the Pennine Way and was the first female British finisher in UTMB in 2022. Ultra running has been a family sport since the beginning and she normally competes with Richard Staite, her partner, whilst her two children can be found either running themselves or as volunteers in aid stations. Abraham Shakespeare won thirty million dollars in the Florida Lottery. Three years later, he was dead -- shot twice, buried under concrete in Lakeland, Florida. This episode features real court recordings and interrogation audio.Abraham Shakespeare, 43, was a truck driver's assistant from Lakeland, Florida, who lived simply and was known for his generosity. Friends described him as someone who would help anyone, even when he had little to give. On November 15, 2006, Shakespeare won a $30 million Florida Lotto jackpot, choosing a lump-sum payout of approximately $17 million. He purchased a million-dollar home in a gated community, bought cars for friends, paid off mortgages for relatives, and gave cash to nearly anyone who asked. Within two years, the majority of his fortune had been spent or given away. He told relatives he sometimes wished he had never won.In late 2008, Dorice "Dee Dee" Moore approached Shakespeare, claiming she wanted to write a book about how people were taking advantage of him. Moore positioned herself as his financial protector. Within months, she had Shakespeare sign over his home, his remaining properties, and control of his bank accounts to companies she owned. By early April 2009, Moore controlled nearly everything. When Shakespeare began pressing her about where his money had gone, he vanished. His last confirmed sighting was in the first week of April 2009.Moore launched an elaborate deception to cover his absence. She sent text messages from his phone, forged letters in his name, and paid a man to impersonate Shakespeare on a phone call to his own mother. She told police he had planned his own disappearance. When Shakespeare's family reported him missing in November 2009, investigators with the Polk County Sheriff's Office traced the financial records. Every explanation Moore offered contradicted the evidence. A controlled phone call arranged by detectives caught Moore pressuring an attorney to maintain lies about Shakespeare's whereabouts.In January 2010, acting on evidence from an undercover operation, authorities discovered Shakespeare's body buried nine feet deep under a concrete slab at a property on Highway 60 in Plant City, Florida. He had been shot twice in the chest with a .38 caliber revolver. On December 10, 2012, a Hillsborough County jury convicted Dorice Moore of first-degree murder after three and a half hours of deliberation.
