It is now almost six weeks since the horrors in Israel and Palestine started – again, but this time in an unprecedented manner. It has never been so cruel so far. So much has been said about all of it already and it is still happening anyway. People are still getting killed on a daily basis by a huge military apparatus that is supported by the big Western countries of this world. Words don`t seem relevant or powerful enough in the face of this. The increasingly loud and aggressive discussions about Israel and Palestine seem to create more and more division instead of an understanding and an end to the killing. We took some time to reflect how we could add something constructive to the horrors unfolding. Because especially in those dark and violent times Utopias are needed more than ever. So in this episode we don`t give you a lecture about “the conflict”. We`ll tell you how we tried to create an Utopian moment in the midst of all the darkness, violence and despair happening. A tiny moment of freedom and justice from Germany for Gaza and for people in Germany that do not feel heard in their pain and disagreement towards what is happening. We`ll talk about: How we organized a protest with watermelons and for freedom rights for all people The very special German relation to Israel and Palestine The difference between antisemitism and criticizing the government of Israel The importance of freedom rights, especially the right of free speech The relation between journalism and activism A Haward study on the success of non-violent protest A young man from Gaza who is sending messages of comfort to the protesters in Hamburg More information about context and history of Israel/Palestine: BOOKS: The blue between sky and water by Susan Abulhawa The Birth of Israel: Myths and Realities by Simha Flapan The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance, 1917–2017 by Rashid Khalidi Gaza: An Inquest Into Its Martyrdom by Norman Finkelstein The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappé FILMS: The Promise Omar 5 Broken Cameras The heart of Jenin PODCASTS: in German: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjYxIkjGvQE in English: recommendations? Phil and Josh return for E194 of the GSP to recap a busy NASCAR Championship weekend at Phoenix, which saw Ford sweep the titles in Trucks, XFinity and Cup. Ryan Blaney used the momentum he built during the playoffs and a great car to overtake Kyle Larson late to become a Cup Series champion. Larson finished 3rd, Byron 4th and Chris Bell fell out early with brake failure. Blaney and Ross Chastain raced each other hard and a possible rivalry may be brewing with the champ and the Watermelon man who won the race. Kevin Harvick ended his full-time career with a strong seventh place finish. After two runner-up finishes at Homestead, Cole Custer broke through to win at Phoenix and get his first XFinity title to salvage a brutal year for Stewart-Haas Racing. Custer won in overtime over Sheldon Creed and championship contender Justin Allgaier. Sam Mayer finished fifth while John Hunter Nemechek's great season ended with a brutal 28th place finish. Ben Rhodes was the last man standing after a chaotic and frankly pathetic Truck Series finale at Phoenix to become a two-time series champion. Carson Hocevar dumped Corey Heim and the Tricon driver came back to clean Hocevar out. That incident brought out a yellow which likely cost Grant Enfinger the championship in the final race for GMS Racing. Kyle Busch Motorsports also ran their last Truck race after years of success. The guys give their thoughts on what transpired and the viability of the series in general. The Brazilian Grand Prix saw Fish Lips dominate and pass his BFF Lando Norris early. Aston Martin came back from hibernation while Mercedes possibly had their worst race in the last 10 years at Sao Paulo on the heels of winning the pole and race last year. On the NFL beat, both Phil and Josh's teams are on bye but plenty took place with the injury bug rearing its ugly head. Fantasy teams are definitely being affected by said injuries. The guys preview the Jaguars/49ers match-up and Chase Young's debut in the burgundy and gold. A brief GSP Roundup covers the WEC finale at Bahrain along with the post-season test along with previews of MotoGP/Moto2 at Malaysia and NHRA season finale at Pomona before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.

Though it might be one of the smallest states, the brewing scene in Delaware is mighty, and we're ushering in our 33rd State Show with a lineup of five flavorful beers from five different breweries. Thanks to Ryan Tracy (and family), we're able to live vicariously through his travelogue while sipping these delectable beers, just missing out on the coastal views and massive plates of seafood. Also, Ryan flies too close to the sun with his back scratcher, Craig's working on the leg rolls, and one podcast studio gets absolutely drenched in an exploding beer. Wireland Ranch is an incredible work of art and we're proud to host them on our feed. And today's episode comes with an important message, now more than ever. About Wireland Ranch This show is a psychedelic cosmic horror audio drama. A crumbling shack in an alternate version of the Mojave desert that houses the heartbeat at the centre of the universe. Long ago, the heart was diminished when new gods usurped the throne and began their own type of reign. They battled and bickered, causing tragedies, mass rituals, and monied black magic. Now, it seems that history is coming to a head and our spoiled gods are fighting harder than they have ever fought before. Israel has the right... Cucurbits: melons, squash, pumpkins, courgettes, zucchini, gherkins and… cucumbers. A bit “touchy” —don't like cold spells of weather— cool southerly winds are no good; frost tender. That's why it's best to sow them later in spring (from end of October onwards). I sow them in medium-sized pots with seed-raising mix (high in organic material); these cucurbits appreciate a good organic feed (compost, sheep's poo, Seafood Soup – a great liquid fertiliser) on a regular basis. But what you have to be careful with is too much water when they have germinated: their new roots are very susceptible to rotting in wet potting mix! A well-draining mix helps to keep the young roots safe from the rots. Keep your seedling in a nice, warm spot; around 18 degrees or more during the daytime hours and no less than 7 or 8 degrees at night. Sunlight is important: at least 7 hours per day direct sunlight. My tunnel house easily gets those numbers (and allows earlier planting and better regulation of watering too!). I'm not too keen on courgettes (which have a habit of becoming marrows – even worse!); nor am I a pumpkin aficionado. Let's face it: in Winter there are heaps of pumpkins on the market and they cost bugger-all! I usually concentrate on Cucumbers, watermelon, and gherkins. These fruits are usually largely made of moisture – which means that when the flowers develop into fruits, the plants need more water (compared to the seedling stage); It's the watering (liquid fertiliser!!) that really helps them to expand the fruit to a good size. Watermelon grows nicely on warm soils – sprawling all over the place; if you want to help them with lovely warm soil, perhaps cover the soil with some black plastic. Gherkins and Cucumbers are best grown on a trellis or climbing rack. Again: fruit develop best with increased watering / liquid fertiliser. Cucumbers need to be harvested regularly to make the plant set new fruit. Summer snack: Pickled gherkins? (or watermelon??). See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Nick and Angela welcome a TV and radio broadcaster to DISH HQ. Sara Cox is a proud northern lass from Bolton and began her career as a model in her teens. With the chops for more, Sara auditioned for The Girlie Show on Channel 4 and didn't take no for an answer. From there, work on the wireless beckoned and she became the host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show in the year 2000. Among other shows, Sara presented The Great Pottery Throw Down, which inspired her to write her debut novel Thrown. Sara presents Drivetime on Radio 2 and the new series of her book show, Between the Covers, starts on 6 November on BBC Two. Angela prepares Sara a dish by her friend Ravinder Bhogal - mackerel with a watermelon rojack - and the experts at Waitrose pair the meal with a Guigal Côtes du Rhône Rosé. Our threesome chat about the glory of a northern palate, Sara's passion for horseriding and why Nick simply cannot be a guest on her book show. Next thing you know I've recruited him to sit down and chop it up with me for an hour. We hit a few great topics such as 1. When is ACME going to start opening for lunch? 2. What asshole decided to make fried chicken & watermelons a racist thing towards black people? I am offended that I'm supposed to believe they somehow like either one of those more than I do. 3. Why are the watermelons from Smith County so much better than everywhere else? 4. We of course talked some Madison County corruption

Same old situation? We hope not… Its Episode 141 – Gerber, Danko and (long time listener, first time caller) Chuck are back after a break to talk sports and more in the Land. Due to hardware issues, Chuck checks in on his iPhone and the Guys start the show at home with a recap of demoralizing, but, not entirely unexpected loss to the Ravens. The Guys discuss the impact of not having a franchise quarterback for the game, the impact of the loss on Browns' fan psychology and the impact good punting. The Guys also take some time to reminisce about Terry Francona's time managing the Guardians as the season comes to a close with a loss in Detroit. On the Road (17:13), the Guys start in the NFL and celebrate a big Lions win on Thursday night, debate the biggest win of this NFL Sunday and try to figure out the 2-2 logjam in the AFC South. The Guys move on for some Fall Hot Shots and discuss highly anticipated (?) USFL and XFL merger, a blowout at the Ryder Cup and the impact of Portland's recent trades on the NBA Eastern Conference. Off the Field (33:35), the Guys dive into the random topics of a From the Land Grab Bag. The Guys spend the rest of the evening talking the impact of beer on life expectancy and the dumb end of Winning Time. The Guys also look back on Tupac's death as news of an arrest in Las Vegas was announced this week before checking in on the best way ever to spend lottery winnings, some Cleveland community news and the best new rock songs by artists over 70 (or 80) in the last week. Stick around after the close music (53:54) for the outtakes, more Browns and instant reactions to the Jets v. the Chiefs. Errors – Chuck said the Browns needed to do more to convince him they had a chance to win the AL Central. The Twins clinched that a while back and the Browns don't even play baseball. Chris is joined by Rachel Khong and John deBary to discuss watermelon. Do seeded ones taste better? How do you pick a good one? This episode's recipe is for a delightful drink called mohabbat ka sharbat—a refreshing floral concoction of watermelon juice, rose syrup, and whole milk. Rachel had to make it in less than 20 minutes. John, completely in his wheelhouse, made a luxe version (the ice cubes he made were $4 each, and it gets crazier). Chris had to tackle the “Double Taxation” challenge by making one of the ingredients completely by hand and also fusing it with Mexican flavors.
