#trump #truecrime #secretservice On July 13, 2024, former President Donald J. Trump survived an assassination attempt. President Biden ordered a full review of security for former President Trump's Pennsylvania rally and to assess the security in place for the Republican National Convention this week in Milwaukee. On Sunday afternoon, Trump said he would head to Wisconsin for the RNC as planned. He'd thanked the nation on Sunday morning for its concern in the wake of an attempt on his life the evening before. Throughout the morning, Republicans and Democrats alike called for lowering the temperature of political rhetoric. Amid those calls, there were questions about how this happened and descriptions of the rally as a “security failure.” One person at the rally was also killed, and two others were critically injured, officials said. Overnight, the FBI named the suspect in the shooting at a rally in Butler, Pa., but offered no other details. Authorities said Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pa., was involved. Today, I am joined by James E. Craig, the 42nd Chief of Police for the City of Detroit. About my guest: James E. Craig has dedicated his life to service, spending more than four decades in law enforcement, leaving the cities he served safer than he found them. In 2013, Craig was asked by Governor Rick Snyder to serve as the 42nd Chief of Police for the City of Detroit, his hometown. Over the next eight years, Craig led a department of 2800 sworn and civilian personnel and achieved great success, propelling the DPD into the 21st century. Accomplishments as the Chief of Police in Detroit include a significant reduction in violent crime rates through the utilization of data and analysis to support proactive policing, quicker response times for priority 911 calls, and the institution of programs to cut gang membership in at-risk communities. Craig received widespread acclaim for his leadership during the unrest in the summer of 2020. While other cities were marred by looting, riots, and destruction, Detroit stood firm, a model for other cities to strive for. The Detroit Public Safety Foundation is celebrating "Women In Blue" for the month of May. The Women in Blue program is a celebration of the women within the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Fire Department and EMS. This week I went to the breakfast where all of these amazing women were honored. I had a chance to speak with so many incredible people, including Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aqualina who resided over the Larry Nassar sexual assault trial. She is an inspiration and after hearing her message about women power, I truly believe there is nothing that women cannot accomplish if they truly decide to. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/judge-in-larry-nassar-case-to-be-keynote-speaker-at-women-in-blue-event While at the event I spoke with Carolyn Clifford from WXYZ Channel 7, Detroit Police Chief James E. Craig and a survivor of Larry Nassar Trinae Gonczar. I also ran into Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy who was featured on "Women Who Rock" a couple weeks ago and 1st Assistant Police Chief Lashinda Stair who was featured on last weeks' "Women Who Rock". In the 2nd half of the podcast Cyndy Schalter-Salsido from Turning Point Macomb and I discuss the "Royal Wedding" and America's obsession with the royals. We also discuss cults. Lately, it seems every network has some show about someone who was in a cult, or escaped from one. Cyndy and I talk about why people are drawn to these organizations, and really how common they are. https://www.wmagazine.com/story/best-cult-documentaries-films-tv-to-watch Cyndy and I also discuss the second season of the Netlfix hit "13 Reasons Why". The show is back and is crating controversy again over the way some claim it glamorizes teen suicide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INuybFt2ZIo There is always help available if you or someone you know is thinking about hurting themselves.  The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the United States. Danielle Woods is a Detroit native and 16-year veteran with the Detroit Police Department. She is currently assigned to the Chief's Neighborhood Liaison unit where she coordinates and oversees the operations of the Citizen Radio Patrol. She recalls responding to a domestic violence disturbance in 2006 that was between two females who were romantically involved. Her male partner at the time made an offensive remark about the couple's sexual orientation. Woods was so upset that she approached her boss about the need for a community liaison officer for the LGBT community. Woods was appointed the Detroit Police Department's first LGBT liaison officer in 2013. She formulated the first LGBT Advisory Board Committee under the appointment of Chief James E. Craig and is a driving force in the LGBT community in her efforts of "Bridging the Gap" between law enforcement and the LGBT community. Woods says her role as LGBT liaison is to "serve as a bridge between the LGBT community and the police department," helping to build mutual trust, respect, and understanding between the two groups. She works closely with LGBT organizations within Detroit and surrounding areas, including Equality Michigan, the Ruth Ellis Center, Affirmations, and LGBT Detroit, and serves on an LGBT advisory board whose goal is to advocate for the LGBT community and make sure their concerns are heard.
