This week on Hashtag History, we will be discussing the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. On March 30, 1981, President of the United States Ronald Reagan was shot outside of the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, as he was leaving a speaking engagement. He was shot by a man named John Hinckley, Jr., a twenty-five year old man who had fallen in love with actress Jodie Foster after seeing her in the movie, Taxi Driver (which she starred in when she was twelve-years-old), and believed that if he successfully killed the President, that she would be impressed.Reagan was actually seriously injured during this attempt. When he was thrown into his limousine by his servicemen, they originally thought he had just broken a rib or something and that's why he was experiencing chest pain. But they discovered after he reached the hospital – where he collapsed – that Hinckley had successfully hit him with a bullet that had come within an inch of his heart. He miraculously recovered and was released a few weeks later.As for his would-be assassin, he was found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity and was sent to a psychiatric hospital…that he was actually released from in 2021…so yes, he is out and about…so that's great.I don't want to spend this whole episode talking about just Reagan and Hinckley though because, one of the major pieces of this story that so many people neglect to tell, is that several of Reagan's staffers and local policemen were also wounded during the assassination attempt including White House press secretary James Brady who was hit in the head and, as a result, suffered from brain damage for the rest of his life. Failed Assassinations, Inventions, and Baseball Trivia "This Evening"

Next week, Andrew Iler, Mark Adamczyk, and I are heading up to Washington, D.C., to meet with Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna. Congresswoman Luna chairs the Congressional Task Force On The Declassification of Government Secrets. We have secured an opportunity  to brief her personally on critical record keeping  and oversight issues that have been festering for years.   These are issues that we  believe are core to the committee's mission when it comes to  assessing the state of JFK Records disclosure and accounting for all JFK assassination records. Perhaps, more importantly, these are  issues core to restoring the government's strict legal compliance with the JFK Records Act and public confidence in what is being shared with our citiziens. Congresswoman Luna's Task Force on the Declassification of Government Secrets is currently finalizing its historic report, and we are making this trip to ensure that our actionable recommendations are explicitly cemented into that document. We are hopeful that our recommendations are going to be taken seriously. For nearly 27 years, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has operated outside its statutory authority, undermining a law that Congress unanimously passed to guarantee an "enforceable, independent, and accountable" process for public disclosure. Early in the task force's existence, we provided a formal submission that outlined and discussed a myriad of critical issues including missing Final Determination Notifications (FDN's) and the lack of a searchable (and verified complete) index of records. We are hopeful that our input will help to restart congressional oversight of the records collection and be the  blueprint to finally correct decades of improper record  administration by NARA in the post Assassination Record Review Board era. Andrew Iler and Mark Adamczyk  are two of the foremost experts on the planet when it comes to the technicalities of the  JFK Records Act.   Their continuing research has uncovered issues with the records collection that can no longer be swept aside. I love James Bond movies. I grew up with them. I just talked about having gone through every Bond film a few weeks ago (there's 28, if you include The Rock, and you should!). When I watched the marketing for First Light, it looked like a Hitman game. A very well done, excellently made, Hitman game. And that meant I was out. I'm not hating on Hitman. Blood Money is a classic, and as far as I'm concerned the peak of the series because after that I never got into it again. World of Assassination is supposed to be incredible - if you love Hitman and haven't played it - get after it. This is by no means trying to talk you out of anything Hitman. But... Is James Bond right for a Hitman game? It didn't land for me. For whatever reason, James Bond means car chases, fast action, gun fights. In game form, that screams shooter to us. First or Third person, but shooter. Not stealth, not sandbox, not puzzles. None of those things are bad, and judging by the reviews IO interactive did a fantastic job. So, why is the game tracking low sales? Well, who is this game for? Hitman fans? James Bond fans? Uhhh... Uncharted fans??
