HWSI! Episode 154 Planes, Trains and Automobiles “Those aren't pillows!!” Happy Thanksgiving folks! This week we are talking about "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," a holiday travel comedy from 1987 written and directed by John Hughes and staring Steve Martin and John Candy. We both saw this back in that day but gave it a rewatch just for this episode. As always, we have some great cocktails for this one as well! Hopefully you have seen it and will join us for this episode of “How We Seeez It!" and hear the discussion on this one. So, mix a drink, have a listen and let us know what you think. We called our own 20-somethings, Sebastian and Avi, in to help us look at the most iconic Thanksgiving movie ever. Steve Martin and John Candy starred 1987's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. The film was written and directed by John Hughes, the writer/producer/director responsible for teen films like The Breakfast Club, and slapstick comedy juggernauts like Home Alone, and the National Lampoon's Vacation. Does this slapstick holiday classic hold up? Is it still funny to later generations? What makes it funny and why does comedy seem to run in cycles. Did anyone else think there might be a dark, true crime twist at the end? Avi did. You can find Sebastian on Instagram @sebastian_brambila and Avi on Instagram @avi.lieu. ____Have a question for one of our Friday “One Good Question” episodes? Thanksgiving is here and the boys are watching Steve Martin try to escape John Candy on his way from New York to Chicago, by way of Wichita Kansas. And the adventure goes right through Dan's backyard! (Finally a movie that isn't in Philadelphia!) Will George manage to set aside his tragedy bias and enjoy a heartwarming film? Will Travis set a new all-time curse record for the show? Will Dan ever fully self-diagnose his emotion deficiency? Hopefully this all resolves in time for Turkey! For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Vanck Zhu, full-time private investor. Prior to becoming a full-time investor, as well as working at Etsy, Vanck previously covered the Freight Transports sector on the sell-side and parlayed that experience and launched a substack called, "Planes, Trains, &...Trucks." Even though he hasn't updated his substack for little bit, he still has a wealth of knowledge about the space and thought it'd interesting to learn more about the freight transports sector. He also happened to compete on Season 29 of the Amazing Race, so I guess it's all very appropriate that not only did Vanck compete on THE reality competition show around traveling, he covered the travel (albeit on the freight side) for a living. Modern warfare extends beyond physical boundaries to the digital. Nowhere is this more obvious than the war in Ukraine where cyber-attacks have been part of Russia's arsenal from the beginning. In this episode of The Next Stage we hear from one of the founding members of the US army's cyber command unit, Josh Lospinoso, who has gone on to found cybersecurity startup Shift5. Josh talks about digital threats new and old.For example, he said the average iPhone is about one thousand times more secure than a trillion dollar fifth generation fighter like the F35. Meanwhile newer tech like Elon Musk's Starlink satellite - which has been used by Ukraine military - is using older protocols that can be tracked using a shop bought kit costing only 25 dollars. What can be done to prevent all out cyberwarfare?
