US May Permit Europe to Supply Tomahawk Cruise Missiles to Kyiv. Rebecca Grant of the Lexington Institute comments on the talk that the United States may permit Europe to supply Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv. Grant discusses the Tomahawk's capabilities, noting that while Ukraine uses its own drones, they have shorter range and smaller warhead size compared to weapons already present, such as ATACMS and the British Storm Shadow. Grant states that the Tomahawk is the "missile of choice." The US May employment report is due, with the regular reminders that this data has become increasingly unreliable in recent years, and average earnings are not wages. This month's data will correct errors that crept into last month's data. Signs of weakness in restaurant and leisure travel sectors mean fewer lower paid workers may be employed, raising average earnings without affecting wages. But, the Federal Reserve's “data dependency” means the labor market is seen as a trigger for policy action.

US equity futures are firmer following Thursday's mixed close. European equities opened flat, while Asian markets ended mixed with modest moves. Trump and Xi agreed to launch a new round of trade talks, though China's readout urged the US to remove sanctions and show prudence on Taiwan. ECB cut rates by 25 bp for the eighth time, but signaled a likely pause in July. White House aides reportedly scheduled a Friday call as they seek to deescalate the feud between Trump and Musk, with both signaling openness to reconciliation.
