This weekend Marvel Studios released the final chapter of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy. Greg had a chance this weekend to see the movie and give his thoughts on if it measured up to the two previous films and if it was better than some of Marvel's recent theatrical releases. NOTE: There's a discussion about the end credits scene, which will spoil the movie. Greg will give a warning followed by a few seconds of silence to let you stop the recording and go back later if you plan to see the movie.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy — or, at least, James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy — are about to make their last stand with this week's long-awaited Vol. 3, and in this week's episode of the Empire Podcast, Chris Hewitt Zooms with Nebula herself, Karen Gillan, for a fun chat taking in everything from conspiracy theories to James Gunn's initial firing from the project, and everything in-between. Chris also has a chat with another regular pod-guest, Joe Russo, who tells Chris about the second year of the St. Andrews International Film Festival, why he never keeps track of his score at golf, and more. That 'more' includes an in-depth chat about the state of the filmmaking union and the rise of A.I. and its impact upon movies, and while this was recorded a couple of weeks ago, it feels very timely now given this week's decision, by the WGA, to call a strike, with the rise of A.I. just one of the issues at stake. Discussion of that decision forms a big old chunk of this week's movie news section, as Chris and Helen O'Hara and James Dyer get their teeth into the issue, but they also find time to talk about the Best Movie Kings (guess why), and review Return To Seoul, The Laureate and, of course, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. I am Groot.
This week Joe makes Nick watch James Gunn's (Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad) 2006 directorial debut! This slimy, disgusting, slug-filled and hilarious tribute to 80's B horror movies is one of the great under-appreciated examples of sci-fi horror comedy. Enjoy Slither! Partially touted as one of the best Marvel films ever made (by junkets and ad marketing), Eternals, which originally was shown in theatres has now been widely released on Disney Plus. And with that the jury appears to be out with mixed reviews as a newest edition to the MCU created by the legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby in the late 70s. Eternals, for the MCU, would usher entry into the cosmic realm even far beyond what James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy would bring. The film also includes a star studded cast, including Selma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and newly crowned lead, Gemma Chan (who was previously cast as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel). The big question here is how was it received at TBC_afp? Tune in to find out. #HarryStyles #StarFox #nuffsaid
After loving James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films (especially Book 2), Jason was really excited to watch Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Carlos was excited, too, but not holding his breath. And after watching this new movie, Carlos and Jason are... kind of conflicted. Kind of happy, laughing along, at the same time they're frustrated by the movie. It's an ambivalent 24 minute conversation that we think is good listening. Please let us know what you think. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jason-sacks/message

We're closing out 2019 with some sweet sweet MCU goodness. We're talking about James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, the movie that really expanded what was possible in these Marvel flicks. By introducing a mostly unknown IP, casting unexpected actors, taking the whole thing into sci-fi territory, with a kick-ass soundtrack, Marvel Studios proved that they can pull off something totally different, and still nail it. Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, The 250 is a fortnightly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. This time, to mark the release of Captain Marvel, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Stealing a mysterious orb from a dead world, Peter Quill become embroiled in a high-stakes plot with galactic repercussions. As time runs out and the threat rises, Quill finds himself forced to assemble a ragtag band of misfits because the galaxy isn't going to save itself. Among that team, Quill finds the deadliest woman in the galaxy, a literal-minded killing machine, a bounty-hunting racoon and his "personal house plant slash muscle." Separately, they are a bunch of failures. Together, they are the Guardians of the Galaxy. At time of recording, it was ranked the 248th best movie of all time on the Internet Movie Database.
Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney are joined by special guest Tony Black for This Just In, a subset of the fortnightly The 250 podcast looking at notable new arrivals on the list of the 250 best movies of all-time as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. This time, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.
