It rhymes with Bfinity Stones. Once Superman showed back up, Steppenwolf was done. And nobody was a fan of that voice filter.Aquaman splits the guys right down the middle. Jay called it cheap, cheesy, and overhyped. Shayne liked it more and says Jason Momoa is the whole reason Aquaman works at all now. Also, Jango Fett himself, Temura Morrison, had a role. James Wan directed. It's better than Jay remembers.Shazam gets real love. Zachary Levi (yes, that's Chuck from the TV show) plays a superhero who looks like he's actually having fun, and the guys agree the lighter tone made it stand out.Birds of Prey lands strong. Margot Robbie owns Harley Quinn, Ewan McGregor makes a great villain, and the guys are genuinely impressed by DC's track record with strong female leads before Marvel got there.They close out by looking ahead: Wonder Woman 1984, the Suicide Squad reboot, The Batman, Black Adam, the Flash's Flashpoint storyline, and the hope that Henry Cavill stays Superman for a good long time.Toast of the round: "Here's to being single, drinking doubles, and seeing triple." Detective Comics #1112 brings Batman, Green Arrow and Black Canary to the truth surrounding Prion's death and an emotional decision about whether that truth should ever be revealed. Poison Ivy #47 accelerates Pamela's fall as she loses Harley, alienates Janet from HR, loses Vandal Savage as an ally and watches Peter Undine take control of the Knights of the Green Order before making a desperate bargain with the Parliament of Trees. Zatanna #5 takes Zatanna into the Hidden City as Jamal Campbell continues expanding the magical rules, rituals and mythology surrounding her role as Prime Magus. Absolute Wonder Woman #23 finds Diana singularly focused on locating Barbara Minerva without realizing Barbara has willingly become the Cheetah, while Zeus calls upon a reluctant Ares as part of an unknown plan against Wonder Woman and Veronica Cale's daughter becomes increasingly important to the larger mystery. Absolute Catwoman #3 reunites Selina with Holly and Helena Bertinelli as the story moves between their present-day mission and their earlier days as the Calicos, including a mysterious list connected to Cain and the reality-altering technology known as the Yarn. The Flash #36 has Wally expanding his attempt to prevent crime before it happens into Metropolis, prompting Green Arrow to finally confront him over how invasive and dangerous that level of intervention has become and quietly gather other heroes to discuss whether Wally has crossed a line. Green Lantern #38 forces Kyle Rayner to confront the amnesty granted to Major Force before swinging into a bizarre battle involving Condiment King, FEAST and Big Belly Burger's corporate mascots, while Hal Jordan's separate space storyline with Jana continues. The Justice League is up against Amanda Waller, her council of allies, and Taskforce X (a.k.a. The Suicide Squad) this week.  Waller is a planner and wants to protect the world from the League by any means. Batman and the League must examine themselves and their crew carefully. "The Doomsday Sanction" has a confrontation between Batman and Waller that leaves them both shaken. She and her allies are creating means of stopping the League to prevent what happened with the Justice Lords. In this process, they created Doomsday. The Justice Lord's Superman lobotomized Doomsday. But he has regenerated and is set free by Dr. Milo. Doomsday interrupts the League's rescue mission and fights Superman. Batman stops the Kryptonite nuclear bomb and Superman traps Doomsday in lava. The League sends him to the Phantom Zone. Batman is still leery of what the League can do. "Taskforce X" is Waller's Suicide Squad. All the members except for Flag are criminals freed from death row. They are forced into five years of service with an explosive implanted in their heads. Flag, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, the Clock King, and Plastique are tasked with getting abord the Watchtower. Once there, they are to blow the reactor to cause confusion and steal the Annihilator. The Clock King's plan goes well, until the Taskforce reaches the bridge level. Shining Knight, Vigilante, and Atom Smasher put up a fight that slows them down. Martian Manhunter almost has them, until Plastique threatens an unconscious Atom Smasher with a bomb in his mouth. Captain Atom helps but the Taskforce, minus Plastique, escape. They deliver the Annihilator to Waller. Today I'm talking with actor, writer, and lifelong comics fan David Dastmalchian. You know David from a ton of great genre work . He played Thomas Schiff in The Dark Knight, Kurt in Marvel's Ant-Man, and Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad. And horror fans have been raving about his performance as the haunted late-night host Jack Delroy in Late Night with the Devil.But beyond acting, David is also a serious comic book storyteller. This week he's launching a brand-new graphic novel called Through, created with artist Cat Staggs. It's a haunting supernatural story that mixes horror, trauma, and redemption in a way that feels very personal to David. We talk about how Through came together, what it was like collaborating with Cat Staggs, and how comics have been part of David's life long before Hollywood came calling. We also get into his earlier comic work, the influence of classic horror and indie comics on his writing, and of course some stories from the sets of The Dark Knight, Ant-Man, The Suicide Squad, and the breakout horror hit Late Night with the Devil.
