We welcome back our in-house MCU experts, Nico Vasilo and Kevo Risse, to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! Will it hold up in an era of superhero burnout? Will Nico and Kevo like it more than they did when they covered it for mcu.html? We find out! After Nico takes James Gunn down a peg, we compare this Guardians film to Superman (2025), talk about the issues with Yondu redemption, and compare the Fast Family to the Guardians with regards to how they approach working together (and being a found family). We ask for insights about Planet X. Nico compares this movie to Final Fantasy VIII. Kevo explains the problem with Adam Warlock. There's lots of Fleetwood Mac talk, for some reason. Nico points out the vehicality of this film. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was such a delight. Man! I can't wait to see what James Gunn is gonna do next.
[School of Movies 2025] This film began life before James Gunn was abruptly fired overnight, by Marvel. It languished for years through the triumph of Endgame, then the Pandemic, and Gunn's hiring by DC to direct their Suicide Squad sequel. The man who came back to pick up the script had been changed, and while Superman (2025) shows the sheer optimistic joy he's capable of imbuing his projects with, this farewell to the Guardians is a dark, furious requiem of betrayal, loss, bitter conflict and ultimately redemption. In choosing to make it all about Rocket Raccoon, the secret weapon of the MCU was taken out of the picture. He is attacked by newcomer Adam Warlock on Knowhere home turf, in a failed act of corporate reclamation. His killswitch is triggered, leaving him in a coma and it is up to the Guardians to investigate the Doctor Moreau-inspired High Evolutionary, and find out how to bring Rocket back. This leaves him absent for much of the present-day movie, stuck reliving his tragic past, and the earliest friends he made. These tragic events would twist his future actions into those of anger and neurotic rejection of even his closest companions. It is unlike any other MCU film, deeply personal and imbued with such vociferous anger that it actually becomes a mess, half hanging onto what was originally intended, half channelling the mixed, spiking emotions of going back to deal with your monster, saying goodbye to your dear friends and moving on to other and better things. The world is better for the confluence of events that led us to getting our new Superman and a brighter future of the DC Universe, but it was Gunn who took the damage, and this film exemplifies that. Next Week: The Marvels

It's a brand new season and that means two brand new study topics! In Season 15, I'm studying something called the villain's monologue and Melanie is studying turning points. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is one of those films that's ok as long as you don't look too closely! There are definitely logic problems but insofar as our study topics are concerned, this movie offers up some valuable craft advice. Enjoy! -V. Maria Bakalova knows what she's doing when it comes to finding top-tier creative partners in film and television. As a student studying at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Bulgaria, she gravitated toward acclaimed filmmakers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, a directing duo she still works with to this day. She met Julian Kostov in 2019 when he shared a casting notice for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, the movie that'd ultimately earn Bakalova an Oscar nomination. Now, Kostov is Bakalova's producing partner. Under their Five Oceans banner they produced Triumph with Grozeva and Valchanov directing. The film was selected as the Bulgarian entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. Next up on Bakalova's list of dream collaborators she's hoping to establish a long-standing creative partnership with? James Gunn. In fact, during her Collider Ladies Night interview, Bakalova noted, “If I have to choose one person that I want to stick with the rest of my life, it will be him.”Bakalova worked with Gunn for the first time on Guardians on the Galaxy Vol. 3 in which she played Cosmo the Space Dog. While Gunn's run with the Marvel Cinematic Universe would come to an end there, his working relationship with Bakalova wouldn't. Gunn made the shift from Marvel to DC, and brought Bakalova along with him. He cast her as Princess Ilana Rostovic in his adult animated series, Creature Commandos, the project that'd kick off the new DC Universe. At the start of the show, Task Force M is brought in to protect the Princess and the nation of Pokolistan from Circe (voiced by Anya Chalotra) and the Sons of Themyscira. However, as the season progresses, those involved start to question who they're protecting the Princess from - and if she needs protecting at all. With all seven episodes of Creature Commandos Season 1 now available to stream on Max, Bakalova joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to revisit her journey to the DC animated series, and to share her take on what goes down during the finale episode of the season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Tissues at the ready, because Yosra's picked a surprisingly dark Marvel film for this month's Flicking. The final outing for James Gunn's ragtag family of heroes led by Chris Pratt's Peter Quill puts half its focus on Rocket's (hellish, heartbreaking) backstory and the other on saving a Guardian in mortal peril. But does it have enough of its usual irreverent swagger to charm Guardians fan Hannah? And how much sobbing at sci-fi can Mick do in a week? Learn more about your ad choices. "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3" was one of the few bright spots Marvel had in 2023, as the third entry in the franchise brought forth an emotional and thrilling conclusion to James Gunn's trilogy with these beloved characters. It remains the only mini-franchise within the larger MCU to receive an Oscar nomination for each of its films for Best Visual Effects. The Oscar-nominated visual effects team of Stephane Ceretti, Alexis Wajsbrot, Guy Williams, and Theo Bialek were all kind enough to spend time dissecting the work that went into this massive production. Please be sure to check out the film, which is up for your consideration for Best Visual Effects and is now available to stream on Disney+. Thank you, and enjoy! James Gunn gives his Guardians of the Galaxy an epic send-off before he abadons Marvel for a suicidal mission to save the DCU. And will Star Lord Chris Pratt get a second chance at love with his green girl Gamora (Zoe Saldana)? Find out when you take the road to Knowhere with Now Playing.
