SASAMI has just released a new pop album called Blood on the Silver Screen. While her first record fell in the indie rock realm and her second album had a lot of metal influence, this album represents another left turn. SASAMI talks with Emily Fox about what draws her to make music from so many different genres, and how her family’s story of immigration and involvement in unconventional religious communities might have impacted her self-described identity as a “weirdo outsider.” “As long as they're okay with me finding my own path, which they have really been supportive of as I've gotten older," SASAMI says. "For them, it was getting mass married in Madison Square Garden. For me, it's playing with a metal band." But behind all that stardom was a man living a hidden truth in an industry that made no space for openly queer leading men.Join us as Gary shares his long-time crush and personal reflections on growing up watching Chamberlain, while Holly explores his lasting impact on queer culture. From The Thorn Birds to Shogun, The Three Musketeers to The Slipper and the Rose, we celebrate the art and complexity of a man who gave the world beauty, drama, and, eventually, his truth.

Although his career was groundbreaking, he's largely been forgotten over time.  In this episode, we talk about his life, his football career, and what he did after he finished playing with the NFL's Dayton Triangles (yes… that was really the name of the American football team he was part of). Nicknamed “Sneeze”, he was a high level athlete all his life and broke barriers on the football field and in the wrestling ring.  We begin the episode by talking about some current events (the sad passing of K.W. Lee and the happy green-lighting of the Crazy Rich Asians show on Max). And we end the episode with the recurring segment of What are We Listening To? Our guest today is alternative pop polymath SASAMI. The Korean American songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist is a true musical chameleon, seamlessly shifting between heavy metal, industrial, folk ballads, and alt-pop while touring with the likes of Mitski, Soccer Mommy, and Snail Mail. Today, she releases her most pop-focused record yet—her third studio album, Blood on the Silver Screen. In this episode, we chat with SASAMI about stepping into the world of pop and why embracing it was actually the punkest move she could make. We discuss her shift away from classical roots, the contrasting production styles of Jenn Decilveo and Rostam, and whether we'll see her on Australian shores later this year.SASAMI: Instagram / Spotify Purchase Blood on the Silver Screen and find SASAMI on tour here.Visit our official website here and follow us across our socials.

"Friday night, we lit a match under the quiet myths and watched them burn. It started with Theodor Herzl, scribbling dreams of a promised land while Europe simmered—then jumped to the Frankfurt School, those brainy exiles who swapped Germany for America, whispering chaos into the culture. What's the payoff? A grip on the levers that move us—dating apps turning romance into a game, silver-screen kings scripting our fantasies, and bankers counting coins while the world spins. Don't sleep on the night owls either—those shadow-dwellers churning out late-hour temptations, paired with music moguls remixing our souls. We asked the big one: is this a plot? A Marxist fever dream from the ‘30s, unleashed through tycoons who own the board? Some say it's a takeover—disrupt, dismantle, dominate—while others shrug it off as hustle in a free-for-all. Then there's the loyalty twist: can you root for a homeland far away and still bleed for the one you're in? We didn't hold back—Herzl's vision meets Frankfurt's critique, landing in a modern maze of power and play. The chat blew up, lines were drawn, and yeah, jaws dropped. Missed the fire? Replay's live—dive in and pick a side. Is this the blueprint for a flipped society, or just winners winning? We've got the dots; you connect ‘em. Bring your skepticism, your theories, and maybe a stiff drink. This isn't your average history lesson—it's a wake-up call from the shadows."

Sasami is a singer, songwriter and producer who grew up in Los Angeles. But now she's based in Northern California, and as you'll hear in this episode, that's significant. Sasami went to school for classical French horn. She was in the band Cherry Glazerr, and she's had a lot of collaborations with other artists on their projects and her own. Collaboration is at the heart of the song that I talked to her about for this episode. It's called “In Love With A Memory,” and it features Clairo on vocals, and it was co-produced with Grammy-winning producer Rostam. The song is on Sasami's third album, Blood on the Silver Screen, which is out March 2025. Coming up, you'll hear the original voice memos that she recorded for this song back in the fall of 2022. You'll also hear the demo she made in Garageband after that, and then how she and Rostam turned that demo into the final version, a duet with Clairo. For more info, visit songexploder.net/sasami.

In Tijssens’ first foray into literary fiction, ‘The Edges’, an unnamed narrator returns to his hometown to settle his mother’s affairs following her death. While there he finds comfort in the arms of a former lover. It’s a tale of young love and deep emotion sharply contrasted with an abusive childhood and an adulthood lived on the edges. Told in searing prose that grips with the tender assuredness of a seasoned stylist, ‘The Edges’ is no ordinary debut. And just kind of sitting back and saying, ‘All right, God, you have led this journey. What's next?’” - Chris Wall “I think that endless discovery, curiosity, is something that I believe God and His Holy Spirit does in us if we're willing to patiently listen.
