Doug Sakmann was a truly special individual – a valued member of the Troma Team, friend, filmmaker, and shit disturber. Doug first joined Troma as a production assistant on Citizen Toxie, working his way up to an associate producer, and then going on to produce the Troma's Edge TV series while joining the company full-time as the Head of Production, a position he held until 2002 when he left to form his own production company Backseat Conceptions, which created the Punk Rock Holocaust film series in association with the Vans Warped Tour. Doug also produced and starred in the Kabukiman's Cocktail Corner web series, and he became synonymous with Sgt. Kabukiman, having portrayed the character far more times than anyone else. In addition, Doug was also a journeyman special effects artist, having created FX for everything from music videos to commercials to video games to TV shows and feature films, including the Return to Nuke 'Em High films and Shakespeare's Shitstorm.Doug tragically passed away on June 27, 2024 at just 43 years old. In July of 2023, we sat down with Doug for over two hours to talk about his time in Tromaville. The original intent was to use clips of the interview across various topics that we're covering on the show. In light of what's happened we've decided to air the full interview (mostly) uncut along with remembrances from some of his friends and colleagues. Please enjoy our look back with Doug on a very special episode of Talkin' Troma.Hosted by Zack Beins. Produced by Chris Lanphear for Loudspeaker Studios. Making this grant presentation from last year public now (with some minor edits) in anticipation of our world premiere next month at Amazing Fantasy Fest! Details are here: https://www.amazingfantasyfest.com and new trailer is here: https://youtu.be/pRheZpXsBpQ For the video version of this podcast episode, go HERE: https://youtu.be/w3m6ZF-TOpM On 12.27.23 (my birthday) I did a livestream update on the film via Zoom (while I was still in the clutches of the 'Rona - 1/10 do not recommend). I showed a couple completed clips from the film, and even the first trailer! All this stuff will be exclusive and for your eyes only until probably Spring 2024 (at least), so you're definitely getting an advance look behind the curtain! EDITS: I trimmed off the beginning part of the stream where we were waiting for folks to join the Zoom, as well as the last 2/3 of the musical number so that it's still a surprise at the upcoming screenings! Left the first verse until the big guitars come in though. Also the clips aren't fully foley-ed or mixed, etc. and the score is all temp stuff. Basically...the movie is pretty much done now, this was when it was still a work in progress. INBETWEENING stars Brandon Cole, Tye Blue, Debbie Rochon, Chelsea McCurdy, Jill Brumer, Dillon DeWitt, Seán Patrick Judge, and Angelo Moore (the frontman/singer/saxophonist of Black Rock pioneers Fishbone). Eric Linson is a struggling multiracial filmmaker with a few credits to his name and absolutely nothing to show for it. Inbetweening follows his journey trying to remain afloat and healthy in the liminal space between projects...while the voices in his head steadily become louder. Some are helpful, but most aren't...especially the Zombie Guy. Fortunately, the lead singer of Eric's favorite band (Angelo Moore, from the legendary Fishbone, playing himself) is on Eric's side. Inbetweening melds live action, animation, puppets, and even a musical number to reveal Eric's increasingly fractured journey. This particular work is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
It's a very special bonus episode as host Zack Beins is joined by Scream Queens Debbie Rochon (Terror Firmer, Tromeo & Juliet) and Monique Dupree (Shakespeare's Shitstorm) LIVE at the Colorado Festival of Horror. As a special treat, Ms. Rochon is also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her service to independent cinema.Hosted by Zack Beins. Produced by Chris Lanphear for Loudspeaker Studios. This is our first podcast on a train! Scott Goldberg is a writer and the director of The Forest Hills! This feature is not released yet but will be shown at the Salem Horror Fest on April 30, 2023. It's a werewolf film with an impressive line up of horror alum, including, Edward Furlong, Shelley Duvall, Dee Wallace, Felissa Rose and Debbie Rochon. With Chiko Mendez in the leading roll. Scott talks about how he was able to get Shelley Duvall in the film who was originally supposed to just be a cameo but he got lucky and she's in a few scenes. Scott talks about the rough beginnings of this film and the falling out he had with a producer. The filming location had to change from Michigan to the Catskills. The film went from having a $20,000 budget to a $200,000 budget as the bigger names were attached. He developed a love of film as a kid with a Vhs camera, filming family moments and recreating iconic horror moments. He was inspired by a Steven Spielberg and is a very technical filmmaker and just enjoys learning the ins and outs of filmmaking. He's always been an independent filmmaker because he never felt moved to move to New York or LA and work his way up from a P.A. He just wanted to direct. Scott explains that it might be 8 to 10 months before it is seen outside of the festival rounds because it takes a while to secure deals with streamers plus determining if he'll have to release it himself or sell to a distributor. This will be a different kind of werewolf movie that is connected to mental health struggles. Support indie filmmakers and put The Forest Hills on your watchlist! The Halloween season is upon us and we're kicking things off this year with 2002 slasher-lite Jon Keeyes' AMERICAN NIGHTMARE!! Genre icon Debbie Rochon stars as Jane, a mysterious serial killer who starts targeting a group of friends on Halloween Night after they call into a radio show. Debbie Rochon is fantastic in it, and Brandy Little as the final girl (?) does some great cry-acting but this is one of those ones where it seems like there's huge chunks missing and it was cobbled together with what they had. Totally worth the watch though! EVERYBODY WANTS TO KNOW WHY!

I play rough cuts from a few scenes I've edited thus far, plus a early sneak peek (listen) to "S**tshow", the song from the musical number in the film. INBETWEENING stars Brandon Cole, Tye Blue, Debbie Rochon, Chelsea McCurdy, Jill Brumer, Dillon DeWitt, Seán Patrick Judge, and Angelo Moore (the frontman/singer/saxophonist of Black Rock pioneers Fishbone). Join me for a WORK IN PROGRESS sneak peek at some of the footage and animation as well as discussion of some of the underlying themes/origins of the stories within!
On the eve of her execution, serial killer Tara (Debbie Rochon) passes the time by telling The Executioner (Gunnar Hansen, Leatherface in the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) a trilogy of horror stories, but that's not all she has planned for the night! Skull and Bones was established in 1832 at Yale University. When you view its list of notable alumni, it is plain to see that this is no ordinary fraternal organization. Since its inception, the men who have been hand-picked by its members to join are what many refer to as “the power elite.” After graduating college, a giant chunk of these names goes on to become people of significant influence, domestically and internationally. But what goes on at Skull and Bones? Why is the organization so secretive?Voting for the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards ends on Sunday, April 17. PUBLIC VERSION. Actress, icon, and legend of cult cinema Debbie Rochon (AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, TROMEO & JULIET, POULTRYGEIST, EXHUMED) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss her inspiring journey from a homeless teenager to one of the most beloved heroes of cinema with well over 260 film credits. From working as a featured extra in Lou Adler's LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FABULOUS STAINS (1982) and finding her calling in front of the camera… to becoming one of the hardest working actors in cult cinema over the next 40+ years… to the on-set accident that mangled 4 of her fingers down to the bone… to writing for publications like FANGORIA, GORE ZONE, and SCARS… to co-hosting FANGORIA RADIO with Dee Snider from 2006 - 2010… to winning enough awards to be known as “The Meryl Streep of Horror”… to her triumphant recovery from a brain tumor… to directing her first feature film with 2016's MODEL HUNGER… Debbie is a living example of never giving up, an eternal optimist, a survivor, and a hero to so many of us. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a writer looking to break in and a patient having anxiety about returning to “normal” after the pandemic, Joe recalls how Debbie taught him what a consummate professional looks like on a set, and Adam gets no respect after crowning an actress with the title of “Scream Queen Winner."

The Rikishi Driver Talk Show - Episode 30 (Stefano Milla) -A passionate film director renown for his exploratory techniques, and courage to embrace various film genres from fantasy/action/adventure and horror. His latest feature films are inspired by the life of Richard the Lionheart. Filmed in evocative, historical locations, with a dedicated cast and expert crew who have remained faithful to Stefano throughout his varied, original, if not controversial career. "Richard: The Lionheart" and "Richard the Lionheart: Rebellion" mark an apex of years of experience, bringing together all the true elements of a real epic. "Richard the Lionheart" is released in US by LIONSGATE and stars Malcolm McDowell as King Henry II. In October 2011 he directed "Solid State", proving yet again his desire to explore unknown territories. A sci-fi movie distributed by Wonderphil Productions, presented by Wonderphil Entertainment at MIPTV, Marché du Film in Cannes and American Film Market 2011-12. The cast of "Solid State" included Debbie Rochon, Suzi Lorraine and the star Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day/ Kill Bill vol.1). In 2011 his feature/TV film "Kingdom of Gladiators" won an Excellence Award at the Indie Film Fest in La Jolla. It's again a visual feast of stunning, intriguing locations, with gladiatorial fights to the bitter end marking the destiny of a kingdom. Right from the start of his career his work was appreciated and seen throughout major international festivals, not only at Cannes, but also at Dragon*Con Independent Film Festival. His first feature film "Armaghedon" (1993) was distributed in home video, Followed by a period of short film releases. 2001 saw the release of "La Via Della Gloria" (The Road of Glory), which was selected for the Donatello David Award and Golden Ciak, the major awards in Italy. His next feature "Shan - The Ancient Heart of Natural People" was produced with support from the United Nations, and screened at the UN Headquarters in New York during the Permanent Forum of Indigenous People. This project grew out of experimental theatre shows (2005) in collaboration with the Celtic music group Lab Graal. As producer he won the Kodak Showcase Award at the Turin Film Festival (2006) with the short movie "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" which was also seen at Cannes Film Festival in the same year. 2006 was a fruitful year as Stefano began working with the NWE (European Wrestling Federation) creating a TV series with international wrestling stars, leading to the production and direction (2007) of a pilot TV show "Black & 4X", with the WWE star Kishi as main character. In 2009 he returned to action and adventure with "Claang the Game" distributed worldwide by Wonderphil Productions, earning yet another Excellence Award at the Indie Film Fest. Claang Entertainment is his own production company set up specifically to offer a structure open to all forms of exploration regarding the film world of fantasy and action. Film critics have admired Stefano's scenographic and photographic skills, his capacity to create and produce epic feature films with limited resources and time deadlines, free from preconceptions and a "traditional" film approach. Whether it's to be considered a quality is obviously debatable, but the numerous awards and professional recognition he has gathered along his journey are proof of a director with clear, original, enjoyable ideas. In November 2014 his short movie "The Third Layer" won the Critics' Choice Award at the Medieval Short Film Festival in Italy. --Powered by KnokX Pro Entertainment-- --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therikishidrivertalkshow/support

On this week's podcast, we had a chance to chat with Greg, co-star/writer Paul McGinnis, star Jessica Zwolak and co-star Michael Thurber about their work on the movie, dubbed by one wag, "the wrongest film in the history of wrongness." If that's wrong, well...we don't wanna be right. This horror comedy is about a woman with low self esteem who opts for breast enhancement surgery, unaware that her surgeon, Dr. Thulu, worships H.P. Lovecraft's elder gods, and the surgery is part of a diabolical plot to rule the world. We talk about how the film came about, the involvement of Troma boss Lloyd Kaufman, Buffalo locales, casting, the effects, the film's incredible music, scream queen Debbie Rochon and much much more.
