It's finally time! Rockstar has revealed an in-depth look at Grand Theft Auto VI for the first time, with tons of gameplay, details, and more that so many tens of millions of fans have been hungry for. We discuss all we saw and what we loved and didn't, along with in-depth coverage of the hullabaloo surrounding the game's preview cycle and price. Colin even takes some time to educate the masses that GTAVI at $80 is nearly twice as affordable as GTA1 was at $50, based simply on average incomes and not at all adjusting for dreaded inflation (so next time someone tells you pay hasn't kept up with the increase in game pricing, now you know they're unapologetically lying). Other news this week includes fresh rumors of electronics tariffs in America, booming Helldivers 2 sales, a ton of Gamescom ONL fodder (including Witcher 3 Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Stage Tour, Exodus, Mega Man: Dual Overdrive, and more). Then: Listener inquiries! Is game development in danger of so-called "mode collapse"? How has MiHoYo managed to find so much success across so many high-caliber games? Would Sony ever explore re-releasing old PlayStation hardware? Will Chris and Dustin join Colin in the Fart Corner? The Nerdpocalypse opens with a tribute to Peter Cullen, the legendary voice actor behind Optimus Prime, who passed away at 85. We discuss his massive legacy across generations of Transformers fans. Then some serious news: a lawsuit alleges Elon Musk's xAI used child sexual abuse material to train its Grok models, a disturbing allegation we break down along with its implications. On the lighter side: Ryan Gosling has publicly thrown his name in the ring for Warner Bros.' live-action Flintstones reboot centered on Bamm-Bamm, we discuss whether that idea makes any sense. Dave Bautista's casting as Kratos in Amazon's God of War series is now official. Miami Vice '85 rounds out its cast with Danny Ramirez, Michael B. Jordan, and Austin Butler. Amazon's RoboCop series casts its Alex Murphy. Ridley Scott is reportedly returning to the Alien franchise to complete the David trilogy. "Hooters: the movie" is apparently happening, because someone thought that was necessary. Plus trailers for Get Jiro and The Social Reckoning. The Nerdpocalypse is a weekly podcast covering the latest movie news, TV show news, trailer reactions, and pop culture commentary. It's time for another edition of What Did I Miss?, our monthly recurring series where we catch up on the biggest pop culture stories from the past few weeks that may have slipped under the radar. This month, we're joined by returning guests Roo Ryder and Ivan Gafiltha as we tackle everything from the future of physical media and some massive D23 announcements to controversies surrounding AI and the entertainment industry. We'll also take a moment to remember several beloved figures we lost this month before diving into our Discord roundup and wrapping things up with our usual game of pop culture Kahoot!• The apparent move away from physical media, with PlayStation reportedly scaling back its commitment to discs while Xbox may be taking a different approach in the future. We discuss what the potential disappearance of physical games could mean for collectors, preservation, and the way we own the media we love• The huge number of announcements coming out of D23, including Frozen 3, Coco 2, Kingdom Hearts IV, new Disney Parks attractions, major Marvel and X-Men casting announcements, and plenty of other reveals from across Disney's upcoming slate• Twitch's AI controversy and the backlash from creators after the platform seemingly opted streamers into a new AI related feature without clearly informing them, raising bigger questions about transparency, consent, and how platforms are using AI with creator content• The recent passing of Hayden Panettiere, Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Peter Cullen, reflecting on their incredible careers and the impact each had on film, television, music, animation, and pop culture across multiple generationsWe also head into our Discord roundup for a lightning round of additional stories, including Dave Bautista being cast as the new Kratos, a surprisingly fun McDonald's Godzilla and Hello Kitty collaboration, reports that Horizon Zero Dawn 3 could still be years away due to the focus on live service projects, and several more stories from the Wait For It Podcast Discord server.Join us for another packed episode of pop culture news, reactions, debates, and plenty of unexpected stories you may have missed. We've hit another high point in the gaming year with the industry centered in Cologne, Germany for Gamescom 2026, and the kickoff to that each year is Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley with games both big and small appearing on the almost three-hour showcase. What did Sean and Marc think of what was shown? Any favorite games or surprises? Also, Rockstar is once again in the news, not for their upcoming Netflix showcase of Grand Theft Auto VI but because of a leaker that has leaked quite a bit of the game out to the public and although Take Two Interactive has done takedowns and even subpoenaed both Microsoft and Discord to try to find the culprit, so far he remains at large. Does this hurt the game? Plus, Sean has been playing Mexican Ninja and DuskFade while Marc has been playing Mortal Shell 2 and Beast of Reincarnation. Dave Bautista has officially been named Kratos; Horizon: Hunters Gathering is getting rebooted, Konami has a new Castlevania in development, and more! You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/Y1omGV9ZBrA

Shoutouts, Song Memories & Celebrity Chaos: A Friday Rundown

The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 21, 2026 25:57

It's Friday on The Rizzuto Show, which means this comedy podcast is landing the plane with music nostalgia, celebrity chaos and enough questionable information to ruin several perfectly good movies.First, Rizz gets ambushed by his own shuffle when a Rollins Band song he hadn't heard in roughly 25 years suddenly comes back from the dead. That launches the crew into Henry Rollins memories, MTV, Beavis and Butt-Head, Black Flag, Lollapalooza and the fascinating contradiction that is Henry Rollins: an inspirational motivational speaker who always looks like he's about three seconds away from yelling at a parking meter. Some of the crew remembers the song. Some absolutely do not. Rizz insists everybody needs to listen to it. Rafe now apparently has new music for the closet he cries in. Great start. Then it's time for Crap on Celebrities, where Foo Fighters joining AC/DC in St. Louis continues to be enormous news. Dave Grohl explains just how much AC/DC influenced him, while everyone tries to figure out what happened to The Pretty Reckless and whether the lineup change was designed to give ticket sales another shot of adrenaline.Either way, September 8 is shaping up to be massive.Unfortunately, so is the parking nightmare. From there, celebrity news takes the wheel and immediately drives directly into a ditch. The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic sequel is expected to tackle the controversial later years of his life. The ongoing Tupac Shakur murder case raises new questions about alleged connections to Sean “Diddy” Combs. Then Biggie's family enters an estate fight after changes were reportedly made to his mother's will shortly before her death.Nothing brings a family together quite like hundreds of millions of dollars. We also get new music releases, Dr. Phil lawsuit news and one of the uglier family betrayals in comedy history. Dane Cook's documentary revisits his rise to superstardom and the revelation that his own brother, who handled his finances, embezzled roughly $12 million.Imagine becoming one of the biggest comedians in America and still discovering the most expensive heckler was sitting at Thanksgiving dinner. The entertainment rundown keeps rolling as Yellowjackets heads toward its final season and Dave Bautista takes over as Kratos in Amazon's God of War. The original actor had already gotten himself ridiculously ripped for the role before suffering a torn bicep and losing the job, which is one of those stories that makes your bad week seem slightly more manageable. Then Moon performs an important public service by warning everybody away from a movie he describes, with tremendous critical nuance, as a total piece of crap. You're welcome, America. And because apparently we haven't damaged enough childhood memories, Lern brings in a list of famous movie and TV couples who reportedly hated each other while working together. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey had issues before Dirty Dancing. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn clashed on Four Christmases. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams reportedly needed a screaming match while making The Notebook before eventually dating in real life. Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte? Apparently not exchanging Christmas cards.Claire Danes wasn't thrilled with Leonardo DiCaprio's behavior on Romeo + Juliet, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny went through rough stretches on The X-Files, and Sarah Silverman had her own memorable confrontation with Michael Richards on Seinfeld.Romance is alive, everybody. We finish with celebrity birthdays before the Friday tradition manages to make things uncomfortable one last time, because this comedy podcast refuses to simply arrive at the weekend like a normal program. It's forgotten music, rock news, celebrity gossip, Hollywood feuds, ridiculous show-business money, St. Louis entertainment and enough sarcastic humor to make HR quietly close the browser tab. Apparently one Friday show wasn't chaotic enough, so this episode brings together sports-radio confusion, Banana Ball insanity, celebrity disasters, '90s music nostalgia, Taylor Swift fandom, and an emotional goodbye that briefly forces The Rizzuto Show to experience genuine human feelings. Gross. The crew is coming off its takeover of The Fast Lane, where St. Louis sports-radio listeners turned on their radios expecting serious sports analysis and instead found… us. Confused texts start rolling in, Moon commits the apparently unforgivable crime of discussing soccer, and everyone discovers that sports-talk fans approach radio hosts with roughly the same restraint they bring to yelling at referees. From there, we head to Busch Stadium for the Savannah Bananas and the wonderfully ridiculous world of Banana Ball. No bunting. Batters can steal first. Ball four turns into a sprint. Fans can record an out by catching a foul ball. There's a Golden Batter. There are bizarre tiebreakers. Basically, somebody looked at baseball and asked, “What if this moved faster and people actually had fun?”That naturally sends us down the Steve Bartman rabbit hole, where we discover the infamous baseball was eventually purchased, publicly blown up and—because humanity had apparently not done enough—its essence was incorporated into pasta sauce. Sports fans remain completely normal. We also get into Rizz's upcoming first trip to Buc-ee's, the Gathering of the Juggalos, a drug bust involving a man with the incredibly discreet nickname Blunt Man, speeding, road rage and those tiny towns where the speed limit suddenly drops just in time for a police officer to welcome you personally. Then nostalgia attacks.A forgotten Rollins Band song sends Rizz straight back to the '90s, MTV and Beavis and Butt-Head, leading to an appreciation of Henry Rollins as perhaps the only man capable of delivering inspirational wisdom while looking permanently furious about it. Rafe even discovers the perfect soundtrack for the closet he apparently cries in.Once Crap on Celebrities gets rolling, things become significantly more expensive and legally complicated. Foo Fighters are joining AC/DC for a huge St. Louis show, which is incredible news right up until everyone remembers they'll eventually have to escape the parking lot. The crew also digs into the Michael Jackson biopic sequel, developments surrounding the Tupac murder case and reported Diddy allegations, questions surrounding changes to Biggie's mother's will, and Dane Cook revisiting the brutal discovery that his own brother embezzled millions from him.Nothing says family like alleged financial crimes. There's also God of War casting drama involving Dave Bautista, a public service announcement about a movie Moon thinks is absolute garbage, and a rundown of famous actors who reportedly couldn't stand each other while filming some of Hollywood's most beloved romances. Turns out all that incredible on-screen chemistry might occasionally just be two attractive people professionally suppressing rage. And then Courtney Diamond — aka Eight Ball — comes home. The former Rizzuto Show intern joins the crew ahead of the final TaylorMade tribute to Taylor Swift show, closing a chapter that grew into 45 performances across 28 cities. Courtney talks about knowing when it was time to end TaylorMade, remembering the nerves surrounding the first show and making sure the project went out while everyone involved still loved what they were doing.Things get dangerously sincere when Courtney reflects on her time working with the show and tells Rizz that one of the lessons she carried with her was watching him treat people well and thank her for her work every day as an intern.Don't worry. Everyone immediately starts making jokes before Rizz can develop an emotion.Courtney also explains how a die-hard Def Leppard and '80s hair-metal fan became a massive Taylor Swift fan, why Swift's songwriting won her over and where even a dedicated Swiftie draws the line when it comes to merch drops, album variants and the Taylor Swift business machine. Then we enter the terrifying world of parasocial fandom. The crew debates fans driving 12 hours just to stand outside a celebrity wedding, Courtney admits to incorporating some Def Leppard sightseeing into her honeymoon, and even one of the biggest Swifties we know arrives at an important conclusion:Some Swifties need to chill. Finally, Courtney looks ahead to the emotional final TaylorMade performance and talks about what it feels like to deliberately close something she's spent years building. She doesn't know exactly what comes next—and for once, nobody needs to turn that into a five-year plan. It's sports, weird news, celebrity gossip, music memories, St. Louis chaos, Taylor Swift, Juggalos, Banana Ball, family betrayals, emotional farewells and enough wildly unnecessary side conversations to remind everyone why The Rizzuto Show remains your daily comedy destination.Basically, we laughed, we learned, we almost had feelings, and somewhere along the way Blunt Man got arrested.Another productive day.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.St. Louis City considers demolition of fire-damaged church, home to non-profit's skate parkFour arrested on drug charges tied to Gathering of the Juggalos near Macks CreekMargaret Qualley Just Wore Those Controversial Chanel Shoes for The Dog Stars PremiereSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week on Second Chance Cinema, MC and Spro check into Hotel Artemis, the 2018 crime thriller where Los Angeles is thirsty, criminals have health insurance, and Jodie Foster runs an exclusive members-only hospital for people who absolutely cannot call 911. With a ridiculously good cast: Sterling K. Brown, Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Charlie Day, Jeff Goldblum, and Zachary Quinto. Hotel Artemis has all the ingredients of a cult classic. A great premise. A strange near-future world. Criminals with code names. Dave Bautista as a "healthcare professional." What more could you possibly need? So why did this thing mostly disappear? We talk about what works (damn near everything), what doesn't (the robbery masks), and whether we ourselves would trust it. Hotel Artemis deserves another night's stay. Check it out.

After roughly half-a-dozen episodes of unfortunate absence, we're pleased to welcome Dustin back to the fold, and just in the nick of time at that. A trio of interesting stories have bubbled to the surface over the past week worth examining, and they require further inquiry from the whole cast. For starters, Sony's financials show a stagnant (albeit perfectly healthy) PlayStation brand, as PS5 marches ever-slower towards 100 million units sold. And then there's Electronic Arts, the pioneering American publisher that sold-out to a wealthy foreign interest, with untold ramifications on the other side of the biggest-ever leveraged buyout in human history. Finally, we come to Netflix and Rockstar, who have teamed-up for what can only be described as a unique approach towards showcasing Grand Theft Auto VI, one (perhaps not surprisingly) some people aren't thrilled about. Among other news (and other nonsense), we also get into your listener submissions, as we do each week. How will MLB: The Show 27 be affected next year by what appears to be an inevitable work stoppage in professional baseball? Is there any workable idea for a framework surrounding the second-hand buying, selling, and trading of digital games? Could Sony blunt PlayStation 6's inevitably-high cost by taking a page from Xbox's book and offering hardware on long-term payment plans? Has Colin been saying "beaucoup bucks" wrong, or does one listener simply not know his French? This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Tom Holland's fourth outing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man opened to a massively successful box office, shattering the domestic opening record previously held by Avengers: Endgame, and raking in nearly $1 billion globally in its first weekend alone - so while it beat Endgame's North American opening take, it comes in just behind it globally. Not a bad start for Disney and Marvel Studios as the conversation around superhero movies ebbs and flows in the zeitgeist. Those numbers exclude the premium IMAX format, as Spidey couldn't web up those screens due to The Odyssey still holding all IMAX screens. While Marvel is on their Spidey high, other headlines have circled the news this week - some good and some disappointing. On a positive note - Samara Weaving has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost. Horror fans will recognize Weaving from the Ready or Not films. Obsession breakout star Inde Navarette confirmed her meeting with Jake Schreier and she mentioned interest in playing Mystique. And for the bad news, Wonder Man will not get a season two after all - even though it was confirmed earlier this year - and both Kevin Feige and Maershala Ali expressed regret about the Blade film; with Feige admitting he feels like a failure for not getting it off the ground and Ali saying he's done with the project. Last week, DC Studios and HBO's Booster Gold series writer David Jenkins said that the project is no longer moving forward. Shortly after he made this statement, IGN reported that the series will, in fact, be moving forward, but with a new creative team. The New York Times reported that Barbie 2 is currently stalled, with Warner Bros. struggling to come to terms with lead talent Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling. The studio has until December to reach a deal before the right revert back to Mattel. Stephen King's 1996 novel Desperation is getting a film adaptation from Final Destination: Bloodlines directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Sam Raimi will also produce the feature, his first time working with King. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, which opens in theaters on December 25. The film returns franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40k animated event series alongside the upcoming live-action version, sources close to the project confirmed to Deadline. Additionally, Henry Cavill, who is set to star, is also on board to be an executive producer.Dave Bautista is in talks to take on the lead role of Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series, replacing Ryan Hurst, who had to drop out of production after he sustained an on set stunt injury. Mary Holland, Star of Ghosts and The Little House on the Prairie, has been cast in a lead role as Sandra in the upcoming DC Studios and HBO Max Superman spin off series that centers on Jimmy Olsen. In a recent interview with Inverse, Jessica Henwick revealed that she declined an offer to reprise her role as Colleen Wing in Daredevil: Born Again season three because she wants to protect the character's perfect ending in Netflix's Iron Fist.

In today's Daily Fix:FF7 Remake Trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi isn't a fan of Sony's decision to stop supporting physical PS5 discs. Speaking at FF14 Fan Fest, Hamaguchi said it would be, quote, "a real shame for that culture to disappear," referring to physical media in games. He also said he's pushed for a physical release of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Revelations, but Square Enix has not made a final decision yet. In other news, Xbox Game Pass games for August have been announced, and the trial for Gears of War: E-Day leads the pack. And finally, Amazon and Dave Bautista are reportedly in talks for the star to replace Ryan Hurst in the Gears of War live-action series. Hurst was injured earlier this year on set, and recovery will apparently take too long for them to wrap production on time (not to mention, child co-star Callum Vinson, who may age out of the role during Hurst's recovery).

Amazon's God of War series is getting a new Kratos, and it might be the exact actor fans have been calling for since day one. On this quick-hit episode of Geek Freaks Headlines, Frank breaks down the report that Dave Bautista is in talks to replace Ryan Hurst as the God of War in Amazon MGM's live-action adaptation of the PlayStation franchise. The recast follows Ryan Hurst's on-set injury, a torn bicep suffered during a stunt that required surgery and a recovery window long enough to push Amazon and Sony toward finding a new lead rather than delaying the two-season production. Frank shares why he sees Bautista as a genuine upgrade for the role: the actor is already physically primed coming off his Highlander villain role, his pro-wrestling background makes the Spartan warrior's size an easy fit, and Frank has been a longtime fan of the guy across the board.Frank keeps plenty of respect in the room for Hurst while making the case that Bautista's build, screen presence, and existing relationship with Amazon line up almost perfectly with an older, grizzled Kratos. Nothing is signed yet, so this one stays in the "watch this space" column until the deal closes.0:00 Dave Bautista in talks to replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos0:04 Why Frank calls this recast an upgrade0:11 The Highlander factor and Bautista's built-in bulk0:18 Respect for Ryan Hurst and the case for Bautista0:24 Deal not final yet, more to come0:28 Sign-offDave Bautista is in negotiations to play Kratos in Amazon's God of War series, stepping in for Ryan Hurst.Hurst exited the role after tearing his bicep in an on-set stunt, an injury serious enough to force a recast instead of a production delay.Bautista's wrestling career and physical frame make him a natural fit for the size and presence the role demands. He is coming off a physically demanding Highlander role, so the bulk is already there to carry over. The deal is not locked. Talks are ongoing, and Frank will share the confirmation the moment it lands."Personally, I think this is a bit of an upgrade.""He's coming off of Highlander, so he's already bulked up for a role. He could use that in God of War.""Ryan Hurst is great, I like Reiners, I just think Batiste is even better fit.""As soon as I know, I'll make sure to share it."If you want geek headlines like this in your feed every week, follow and subscribe to Geek Freaks Headlines on your podcast app of choice.
