In this episode of Nice To Meet You, I highlight previous episodes discussing traveling. Tommy shares his travels to South America and learning about the African Diaspora from another perspective. Alise talks about her travel blog, (@blackgirltravelslay) focused on highlighting and destigmatizing the misconceptions around black women and traveling, and how she started traveling with study abroad programs in college. JusPaul explains how he was inspired to change the way he traveled when he was performing abroad after he had some locals show him around the city their way. Stephen informs me about what it means to him to travel because of his friends who are unable to, teachers that doubted him, and family members that look up to him. Sydney tells the story of traveling home for Christmas while living in Germany and how luck was barely on her side that day.
JusPaul and I talk about growing up in Southeast DC and how his music career began as a battle rapper at 11 years old. We chat about travelling and going off the beaten path to learn more than the mainstream historical sites and understand the actual culture of an area. Lastly, he shares his dream musical performance and also his fool proof way of finding new good music: listen to artists from the DMV. Today we will be joined by singet/songwriter JusPaul and record label owner Randy Gill. Thanks for tuning in
JusPaul is a multi talented entertainer born and raised in Washington D.C. He has been performing since he was very young, learning to play several instruments by ear. By the age of 9, he discovered he could also sing; however, as adolescence approached, singing morphed into rapping. JusPaul went on to become lead singer of the legendary, Grammy-nominated jazz-funk/soul band, Blackbyrds! JusPaul was recently voted winner of syndicated radio station WPGC-FM’s “Verses & Flows” competition, the Titan Arts Awards of D.C.’s 2017 “Best Male Vocalist of the Year,” and signed to a distribution deal with Priority Records. He has blessed stages from Russia to Panama and prides himself as a true artist and lover of the people!
