In this episode of the Love & Weeds Podcast Claudia and Brandy explore the practice of Bhakti Yoga off of the mat. Bhakti Yoga is the Yoga of Devotion. Traditionally the practice of Bhakti Yoga revolves around one's devotion to a higher power or god. Is it possible for us to look beyond the traditional meaning of Bhakti Yoga and interpret it in a modern sense or are we stretching the true meaning when we do that? We are reminded that surrendering to a higher power is part of the 8 Limbed Path of Yoga (episode 3). This week's challenge is to reflect on what you are worshiping or devoting yourself to. Do you consider that devotion your practice of Bhakti Yoga? Share with us!

I am beyond honored to have Sri Dharma Mittra on the podcast this week. A former body builder, jiu jitsu practitioner, and wrestler, Sri Dharma moved from his home country of Brazil to New York City with the help of his brother to study with Yogi Gupta. He then went on to assist Yogi Gupta and found the Dharma Yoga New York Center. We talk about doing all things with compassion (and understanding that it starts from a place of ethics), the importance of studying scripture, where to start with studying the scriptures, and understanding the yamas and niyamas.Being healthy (by way of a vegan diet), having a sense of self-control, being dedicated to a teacher, and observing the 8-Limbed Path is Sri Dharma's best advice for success in any aspect of your life.Learn more about Sri Dharma Mittra:Instagram Facebook TwitterMUSIC:Process by 92elmFRIEND OF THE SHOW:Liforme: Check out their eco-friendly, non-slip Yoga mats that have been produced to provide you the best foundation for your Yoga practice. Jessica started a daily Ashtanga Yoga practice in 1994 while studying as an Exchange Student at the University of Adelaide in Australia. In 2004, she moved to Encinitas with her family and studied with Tim Miller. Over the last 14 years she has made several trips to Mysore, India, to study with Guruji, Sharath and Saraswati and has been granted a Teaching Authorization Certificate from the KPJAYI in Mysore. Because of her other career and parenting commitments, she teaches yoga selectively and for limited periods of time, including short workshops and private instruction. She is a nature-loving, yoga-doing, mother of two who loves travel and adventure, positive people, music, dancing, reading, and the simple pleasures in life. She’s an advocate of organic agriculture and has 19 years’ experience in organic certification. Four years ago, Jessica suffered a major spinal injury. While initially this caused a lot of fear and pain, it actually ended up bringing more joy to her practice, to her teaching, and to her life. In this Audio Blog, I discuss the Petal or Limb or Dharana in Pantajali's 8-Limbed Path to Enlightenment. It means concentration, focus, and stillness. This concept is helpful in balancing postures and for quieting the mind. George Seurat practiced concentration as he studies the park and these characters for two years before unleashing his Neo-Impressionist style, Pointillism. The musical, Sundays in the Park with George also discusses the concept of concentration. It is playing in San Diego for one more week at the Museum of Art : http://iontheatre.com/sunday-in-the-park-with-george-1/ Check out my paintings that are now on yoga leggings: https://society6.com/halfmoonyogaandart/leggings
In this audio blog, I discuss the Yamas (One of the Parts of Pantajali's 8 Limbed Path to Enlightenment) as they relate to our treatment of creatures, people, and land. I also describe sustainability in terms of products and materials including Iguaneye shoes and paperless books, Audible.com. Further, I tell the story of a hero in Universal Moarlity, Chico Mendes. https://iguaneye.us/?aff=3 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NB86OYE/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=half08-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00NB86OYE&linkId=27f37030b43b1c7eb5cc5ab665844988
