In remembrance of the legendary Robert Redford, we're resharing this conversation from 2024 on his extraordinary career and most overlooked performances. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we talk about the movie star. The person who if you looked up “movie star” in the dictionary there would be a picture of him. Robert Redford! Today we talk the esteemed career of the quintessential movie star. Our B-Sides include: The Hot Rock, The Great Waldo Pepper, Havana, and The Last Castle. Our guest today is Blake Howard, podcast producer, host, and really good guy. Check out One Heat Minute Productions for everything new and relevant in Blake's world. We discuss a million things, from why The Hot Rock is so hard to find, to the airplane stunts in The Great Waldo Pepper, to why Havana doesn't work. There's an investigation into the politics of The Last Castle, a brief celebration of Lena Olin, and a quick rave for Jordan Harper's searing short story “My Savage Year.” Additional topics include that upcoming City of Hope release, why Peter Yates is “slow vibes central,” why great screenwriter William Goldman knew why The Great Waldo Pepper underwhelmed at the box office (from his book Adventures in the Screen Trade), and how exactly the A-Side The Natural literally looks like nostalgia. Finally, we mention why Raul Julia didn't take a credit on Havana, we reference that superb Scott Frank New Yorker profile, proclaim ourselves defenders of Hollywood Homicide, and discuss the end of Redford's career.
Today we’re diving into everything Coachella: the 2025 line-up featuring Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, Karol G and more (plus the Aussie skit that caught Sabrina’s attention), then taking a nostalgic walk through the festival’s most iconic moments. Think Beyoncé’s history-making “Beychella” set, the mind-blowing Tupac hologram, Florence Welch’s infamous ankle break and that unforgettable Madonna-Drake kiss. LISTEN: Love a walk down memory lane? How connected do your people feel? Phil Thomas is the Chief Creative Officer of Informa Festivals. They're the company that owns Cannes Lions. And Phil has recently been named as Chairman of Comic Relief. One of the things that I've learned hosting this podcast is that the most powerful leaders rarely get remembered for their titles. They're remembered for how they made people feel. In this conversation with Phil, what stood out most weren't his achievements. It was his perspective on making people feel connected. As you'll hear, when you emphasize connection in your leadership, kindness, challenges, accomplishments, language shapes the culture, and the trust that follows becomes invaluable currency that maximizes creativity. Connection is also one of the 13 conditions that's measured by FORM, the creativity diagnostic that I've been developing. Because in every organization that I've studied, when people feel seen, heard, and respected, creativity is unlocked and businesses grow faster. And, memorably, this conversation with Phil is a reminder that connection isn't a soft skill, it's the foundation of creative leadership and the impact that that leadership leaves behind. How connected do your people feel to your organization? Do they feel seen, heard, and respected?
As a dog parent, I bristle at doggie dress-ups at the local pet supply store, yet I still eat meat. Call me a hypocrite. I accept the critique. And yet when it comes to animals, there is a stratification as to how we treat them and the title of a book published a few years … Read More Read More

JOHN 8:1-11 - ADULTEROUS WOMAN - BRIAN SUMNER - 2025"But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.7 So when they continued asking Him, He]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”11 She said, “No one, Lord.”And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”To support this channel and partner with Brian in Ministryhttps://www.briansumner.net/support/For more on Brianhttp://www.briansumner.nethttps://www.instagram.com/BRIANSUMNER/https://www.facebook.com/BRIANSUMNEROFFICIALTo listen to Brians Podcast, click below.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Purchase Brians Marriage book at https://www.amazon.com/Never-Fails-Da...Brian is a full time "Urban Missionary" both locally and internationally with a focus on MISSIONS - MARRIAGES - MINISTRY. It's always a pleasure to get to go back to Muskegon, we just love this city located on the shores of Lake Michigan, and the very cool things that are happening here. On this episode of Behind the Mitten we'll introduce you to Skee town, and take you to cool places both old and new, hear all about one of the best Irish music festivals in the land, learn about a major art expansion, and eat some really good pizza. We kick off with the effusive Amber Mae Petersen, Marketing and Operations Manager for Visit Muskegon and her co-hort Lashelle Mikesell, Digital Marketing Coordinator. They give us a great overview of downtown, and the many nice changes that have been happening here, from businesses moving locations, to new ones opening up. One thing we mention is the beautiful Frauenthal Center, where they host the magical Singing Christmas Tree every year, plan ahead and get those tickets early. One of the largest, and best, Irish musical festivals in the country has happened for the last 25 years in Muskegon. The Michigan Irish Music Festival is happening September 11 through the 14th, and we have Morgan Witmer, the volunteer marketing coordinator for the festival on to tell us all about it. We were excited to learn that new this year there will be a Ceili (KAY-lee), which is a special Irish square dance that anyone can participate in. Organizers are pumped that on Saturday night, Skerryvore, a band from Scotland is coming for the first time. I'm excited to check out the Celtic Canines exhibit on Sunday, where I can meet (and pet!) all the breeds of traditional Irish dogs. There is also a cool Irish Instrument petting zoo on Sunday that sounds incredibly interesting. There are all sorts of Irish culture, food and drink classes as well, please be sure to register ahead of time. We have to give a shout-out to all everyone who gives thier time to this amazing event, it is entirely volunteer run. We've learned over the years that sometimes everyting just comes together, whether you planned it or not, and our time in Muskegon proved this once again. While recording at the new CORE Plaza, we realized that our friends from the Muskegon Museum of Art were also in the house. So, we invited Kirk Hallman, the Executive Director, and Cathy Mott, Assistant Director to join us and give us an update on their major expansion. We had them on last year, so it was nice to hear that it has been an incredible journey, and that all of Michigan is lucky to have this resource. The CORE Plaza is a lovely new spot for Muskegon, and has the feel of a place you might find in a much larger city. Co-owner Troy Wasserman joins us to share how this historic building remodel came to be, shares the businesses that call CORE home, including the very fun Liquid Assests Bar that runs all down one side, and talks about his family's long history in Muskegon. Stop by for lunch, or a meeting, or happy hour, or a hair cut.....CORE Plaza is a hot spot of activity, much like Muskegon.www.facebook.com/behindthemittenhttpswww.instagram.com/behindthemitten_twitter.com/BehindTheMitten#BTM #amyandgonzo #BehindtheMitten And you can find all sorts of things on our website, https://www.amyandgonzo.com/

JOHN 7:25-52 - LIVING WATER - BRIAN SUMNER - 2025"25 Now some of them from Jerusalem said, “Is this not He whom they seek to kill? 26 But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is [a]truly the Christ? 27 However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.”28 Then Jesus cried out, as He taught in the temple, saying, “You both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29 But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me.”30 Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. 31 And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?”32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him. 33 Then Jesus said to them, “I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me. 34 You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come.”35 Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this thing that He said, ‘You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come'?”37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.40 Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.” 41 Others said, “This is the Christ.”But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” 43 So there was a division among the people because of Him. 44 Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not brought Him?”46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”47 Then the Pharisees answered them, “Are you also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? 49 But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”50 Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, 51 “Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”52 They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”To support this channel and partner with Brian in Ministryhttps://www.briansumner.net/support/For more on Brianhttp://www.briansumner.nethttps://www.instagram.com/BRIANSUMNER/https://www.facebook.com/BRIANSUMNEROFFICIALTo listen to Brians Podcast, click below.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Purchase Brians Marriage book at https://www.amazon.com/Never-Fails-Da...Brian is a full time "Urban Missionary" both locally and internationally with a focus on MISSIONS - MARRIAGES - MINISTRY. God is a good Father who uses holidays and festivals to disciple His children all throughout the Old Testament. But for some reason these have been lost in modern Christianity. Now, we don't HAVE to celebrate these holidays, Christ fulfills them all, BUT we've found over the past 10+ years that they are a POWERFUL tool to disciple our kids, follow God more closely, and build deep memories that impact us, our kids, and our communities for a lifetime. JOHN 7:1-24 - FEAST OF TABERNACLES - BRIAN SUMNER - 2025"1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. 2 Now the Jews' Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” 5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him.6 Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to this feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come.” 9 When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.10 But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, “Where is He?” 12 And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, “He is good”; others said, “No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.” 13 However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.14 Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. 15 And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”20 The people answered and said, “You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?”21 Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? 24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”To support this channel and partner with Brian in Ministryhttps://www.briansumner.net/support/For more on Brianhttp://www.briansumner.nethttps://www.instagram.com/BRIANSUMNER/https://www.facebook.com/BRIANSUMNEROFFICIALTo listen to Brians Podcast, click below.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Purchase Brians Marriage book at https://www.amazon.com/Never-Fails-Da...Brian is a full time "Urban Missionary" both locally and internationally with a focus on MISSIONS - MARRIAGES - MINISTRY. Welcome to the Prehospital Emergency Care Journal Podcast! Today, we're tackling a critical and often deadly emergency seen at mass gatherings like music festivals: psychostimulant-induced hyperthermia (PIH). This condition carries high mortality rates, but what if early, aggressive intervention could dramatically improve outcomes? Join us as we discuss the paper, "Physician Directed Prehospital Treatment in Psychostimulant Induced Hyperthermia: A Case Series," with one of its lead authors, Dr. Dorothy Habrat. Dr. Habrat will share insights into their physician-directed prehospital guideline, which integrates on-scene sedation, intubation, and rapid ice-water submersion for severe hyperthermia patients at electronic dance music festivals in San Bernardino County, California. Discover how this innovative guideline, incorporating ice-water immersion before transport, offers a significant potential to decrease the mortality risk of PIH in the prehospital setting and achieve neurologically intact survival. With exposure to Brazilian cinema being so pitiful, I thought it would be past due to host both an episode and screening that put a bit of spotlight on their rich cinematic history. One of my favorite films I've seen in recent years is Carlos Reichenbach's Movie Dementia, which is both the cinema-induced madness its title suggests and a gritty view of national disaffection circa the 1980s––think Godard's Pierrot Le Fou peppered with more gritty realism and a greater dose fantasy. I'll be showing it at the Brooklyn Center for Theater Research on Wednesday, August 27th, for which tickets are now on-sale: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/amnesiascope-filme-demencia-tickets-1579316059849?aff=oddtdtcreator There is quite literally nobody I'd rather discuss that film, Reichenbach's corpus, and Brazilian cinema than Filipe Furtado, whose work as a critic has been a north star for myself and countless cinephiles. I was glad to have this discussion with Filipe, who called in from São Paulo. I hope you enjoy it and can make the screening on the 27th.
