How many of us have the urge to pee and be like, “Oh, I've just got to finish washing these dishes?” As a surgeon, it was always a wrong thing to scrub out of an operation to go to the bathroom, but something clicked in me about 5 or 7 years into my practice and I said, “I'm gonna pee when I need to pee and it's okay.” It's okay to choose yourself too, because your body is your companion. And awareness is the first step to healing it. I talk more about that in today's episode of The Best of The Menopause Movement Podcast with self-love sage and author, Nicole C. Ayers where she also shares the 3 tools you can use to cultivate a kinder and gentler relationship with your body. Discussion Points:  [0:00] Introduction  [6:52] How Nicole got into self-love as a calling or passion   [9:37] Meditation as a vehicle for observation [11:54] Where Nicole's negative thoughts came from  [15:27] Awareness is the first step to healing your relationship with your body  [16:48] The legacy part and how Nicole changes the programming she grew up with  [21:29] Acceptance of where we are  [22:42] The importance of community  [23:49] Journaling  [31:32] If you want joy in your life, it's gratitude  [35:59] How choosing to accept your body is an act of rebellion [41:45] Three tools to cultivate a kinder, gentler relationship with your body  [47:13] This is a journey, not an end point  About the Guest: Self-love sage and author Nicole C. How mean can you be to your body? Several years back, Nicole Ayers realized she wasn't okay. She was experiencing rampant thoughts and having nightmares, and old wounds she thought she had buried were reappearing. This led Nicole on a journey of self-discovery only to find that she didn't like myself very much, especially her body. She was horrified by how cruel she was to her body and now, with two daughters (ages twelve and ten), she couldn't allow her body-shaming be the model for how they might relate to their bodies. Nicole set herself on a mission to be a better role model for her girls and she did this through, of all things, writing letters. She started a daily journaling practice of writing love notes to her body and all its parts. The transformation was liberating and was the tool that silenced the voice of shame.         Bio: Self-love sage and author Nicole C. Ayers is a dynamic and engaging speaker who gets real, raw and vulnerable about her personal journey to finally loving herself. And all her body parts. She's a strong voice for female empowerment and the freedom it brings. Nicole's speaking style is just like a warm embrace, pulling people in and leave with transformative tools to get to know themselves.   Nicole is the award-winning author of Love Notes to My Body, recognized as one of 2020's best life-changing books, and its two body-positive companion books. She's been invited by local and national media to speak about the importance of body acceptance and where she encourages everyone to disrupt the narrative that tells them they are not enough. And that their bodies are not beautiful.   Contact Info: Website: https://nicolecayers.com/ Email: nicole@nicolecayers.com Instagram: @nicolecayers Phone: 704-451-8489   Links to three women whose bodies of work are significant to me: Elizabeth Dialto, Wild Soul Movement: https://wildsoulmovement.com/ Taryn Brumfitt, The Body Image Movement: https://bodyimagemovement.com/ Sonya Renee Taylor, The Body Is Not an Apology: https://thebodyisnotanapology.com/

This is a lovely expressive book that feels almost like an art journal. Author Nicole C. Ayers leaves no body part in the cold, from her thyroid to the rough patches of her heels. The art is energetic and has a child-like quality that transported me to that place of innocent acceptance and delight--the place I'd truly like to stay with this amazing life vessel that I have so often disrespected, ignored, abused and taken for granted. I would happily gift this book to young lady as an antidote for the body pressure she will inevitably face, whether internal or external, as her physique shapeshifts through life.Being transparent with you, I came to this work via its artist Mica Gadhai. We met in Target, where she was working and helping me find a notebook. We easily got to chatting about writing and art. Mica’s in-person energy was as magical as the paintings she created for the book. Her work is like the comforting, colorful quilt that you’d love to wrap yourself up in while enjoying the Chai Tea Latte that is the voice of Ayers. Together their intended message results in a book that is truly a feel-good ‘happiness snack...’
