Are you eating well, working out consistently, doing everything you have been told to do and still not losing weight? Maybe even gaining? You have blamed your metabolism, your hormones, your genetics, your age. But what if none of those are actually the problem? What if the real reason your metabolism feels completely broken is something almost nobody is talking about honestly and something you have complete control over?In this episode, I am giving you the full picture on cortisol and why chronically elevated stress hormones are the single biggest reason most women cannot lose weight no matter what they eat or how hard they exercise. And before we get into it I want to be upfront about something. I almost did not record this episode because the word cortisol has become one of the most overused and over-marketed words on the internet. I am not here to sell you a $300 cortisol test or an adaptogen supplement stack. I am here to tell you what cortisol actually is, why it actually matters for your weight loss, and what you can do about it for free starting today. We are talking about why intense daily cardio is making your metabolism worse not better, why every time you restrict your food you are spiking the very hormone that makes fat loss impossible, and why nervous system regulation is the most powerful metabolism tool you are not using. This is the episode I wish I had when I was cutting a protein bar into thirds and doing HIIT seven days a week and still gaining weight.Your metabolism is not broken. It is flooded with cortisol. And today we fix that. Press play.xoxo,JackieMORE FROM JACKIE: >

If you've been eating well, doing all the right things, and still not feeling better — this one's for you. I sat down with Stephanie Nelson, a trauma-informed somatic coach and founder of The Stress Healers, to talk about something most health conversations completely miss: what happens in the body when stress and trauma don't get processed. Stephanie was diagnosed with arthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis in both hips at age 12. She spent years trying to heal through diet, yoga, and supplements — and while those helped, it wasn't until she discovered nervous system and somatic work that things actually shifted. In this conversation, we get into: • Why your nervous system — not your diet — is the master coordinator of your health • What fascia actually is and why it's your body's richest sensory organ • How perfectionism, procrastination, and anxiety are all adaptive survival strategies (not character flaws) • The three body languages we're born with — and how Western culture teaches us to ignore two of them • Why the goal of somatic work isn't to be calm — it's to have *choice* • A simple 10-second practice you can do today to signal safety to your nervous system Stephanie also shares how her forever-free "Resourced" membership is a great starting point if you want to actually try this work. Why can't I change? If you have ever promised yourself that this time would be different, only to end up right back where you started, this message is for you. Real change never comes from trying harder. It comes from something far better than willpower. In this sermon, Pastor Brandon walks through the life of Zedekiah, the very last king of Judah, found in 2 Chronicles 36:11 through 16. Zedekiah knew exactly what God wanted him to do. He had the prophet Jeremiah speaking directly into his life. And yet he could not bring himself to obey. Pastor Brandon traces four snapshots of a failed king: a man who knew God's word but would not obey it, a man whose fear became his functional king, a man who listened to the wrong voices, and a man who tried to save himself and lost everything.Sound familiar? We are remarkably optimistic about our future selves. We tell ourselves that next time we will be more patient, more faithful, more disciplined. But if the answer to fixing your life is more willpower, you will keep looking to yourself to fix a problem you have never been able to fix. As Pastor Brandon puts it, maybe our deepest need is not a stronger version of ourselves. Maybe we need a better king.Fear is sneaky that way. In Jeremiah 38:19 Zedekiah admits it out loud: I am afraid. Fear of people, fear of losing control, fear of what obedience might cost. When fear runs the show, it quietly becomes the king of your life, and it will lead you exactly where it led Zedekiah. The same is true of the voices we listen to. Zedekiah surrounded himself with people who told him what he wanted to hear, and it cost him everything. That is where the good news of Jesus comes in. Where every other king failed, Jesus succeeded. He died for failed kings and failed subjects, He rose victoriously, and now He invites anyone who will listen to surrender to Him, to walk with Him as a friend, to learn from Him as a teacher, and to worship Him as a Savior. Your identity is not something you achieve. It is something you receive. Real transformation happens not by trying harder for Jesus but by belonging to Jesus.Whether you are exhausted from fighting the same battles, skeptical that faith could actually change anything, or simply curious about what the Bible really says about transformation, Pastor Brandon's message will meet you where you are with honesty, humor, and hope.#AllianceChurch #SundaySermon #BibleTeaching #JesusSaves #ChristianFaith #ChurchOnline #WisconsinChurch #FaithThatMoves #HopeInJesus #SermonSeries #faith #jesus #god #christianity #christian #change #transformation #willpower #surrender #hope #church #gospel

Fear is something we all face. Whether it's anxiety, insecurity, depression, uncertainty, or something else, the question is: What do you do with your fear? Do you try to ignore it, face it in your own strength, or bring it to Jesus? Looking at Psalm 56:3, "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you," we see why David knew could trust God. God saw him, knew him intimately, rescued him, and faithfully led every step of his life. Because of who he is, we can trust Jesus in the hard times, the waiting, and everything in between. No matter what, we can trust Jesus.

I just got back from driving six kids and two dogs (including an eight-week-old puppy) from northern Idaho to northern Wisconsin, and the trip left me with a takeaway I didn't expect. I am so in love with my ordinary, day-to-day life. Watching cousins become friends and swimming and puppy chaos was wonderful, and it made me more grateful than ever for the life I've built at home. So in this episode I'm going to make the case, hard, that you can enjoy your day-to-day life too. I take on the obvious objection head-on ("sure, Sterling, but you're in an easier phase now") and explain why it isn't the property or the ages or the lack of babies making me happy. It's the tools. I walk through calming your body first, opening the messy closet of your thinking, putting what you actually want in the result line, and building rest into your rhythms so you stop living for the next escape. It comes down to rebuilding trust with yourself, and it's available in any season. WHAT WE COVER IN THIS EPISODE: Why a big, un-relaxing family trip left me more in love with my everyday life than ever The objection I take head-on ("it's easy for you now") and why circumstances aren't what make me happy Calming your body first: the anger thermometer, breathing, and being Dominic the dragon "cooling his fire" so your kids can see it Opening the messy closet of your thinking, popping the comparison bubbles, and redirecting on purpose Putting what you actually want in the result line (like "enjoy the kids in the afternoon"), solved both practically and mentally Building rest into daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly rhythms so you don't feel desperate to escape your life Rebuilding self-trust, why peace and acceptance come before problem-solving, and the great household yo-yo drama EPISODE TIMELINE: [00:00] – Home from Idaho to Wisconsin, and falling more in love with daily life [05:00] – "It's easy for you now": the phase objection, and why it's not the circumstances [10:00] – Calming your body first (the thermometer and Dominic the dragon) [14:00] – The messy closet of your thoughts, and popping the comparison bubbles [18:00] – Putting what you want in the result line, and rest built into your rhythms [23:00] – Rebuilding self-trust, peace before problem-solving, and the yo-yo saga [27:00] – Six spots left for France LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED: Come to France with me this fall (six spots left!: https://catholicmomcalm.com/france/ Catholic Mom Calm membership: https://catholicmomcalm.com/ Calm Catholic Kids (Summer of Kindness stories free until September): https://catholicmomcalm.com/calm-catholic-kids-collection-3-kindness/ CONNECT WITH STERLING JAQUITH: Website: https://catholicmomcalm.com Connect on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/catholicmomcalm

In the grand scheme of things, Lyme disease is a fairly new scientific discovery. It was first traced back to ticks in the late 70s and early 80s. The tick-borne illness can cause a rash, fever, pain, neurological complications, and even facial paralysis. It's spread by only two of the nearly 50 species of ticks in the United States. Historically, most Lyme cases were limited to a small region, including the Great Lakes area and northeastern US. But thanks to changing temperatures, animal migration and shifts in land use, scientists say tick territory is expanding. So what does that mean for Lyme disease risk? And do you have to be worried about it in your own backyard?Interested in more episodes about pests and parasites? BIG IDEA “Approval through Christ sets you Free.” FALLEN CONDITION We walk into every room as slaves to the opinions of others. Their praise goes to our head and their disapproval goes to our heart, and we wear ourselves out performing for a verdict we can never finally win. Even our religion can become one more performance that nullifies the grace of God. SOLUTION IN CHRIST By faith we have been crucified with Christ, and Christ now lives in us, justified once and for all. The Son of God loved us and gave Himself for us, and our names are graven on His scarred hands. His verdict settles every other verdict in the room. VISION FOR THE GROVE The Grove to become a community whose freedom runs so deep that no room can shake it. People who walk in already most loved by the Father, no longer ruled by the lust for approval or the fear of disapproval, free to love every person they meet because they have nothing left to prove. Send us Fan MailA viral clip about aborting a baby with Down syndrome lit up the internet, but the part that matters most to me isn't the comments section. It's the question sitting underneath it: what is the unborn, really? As a physician and a dad, I walk through that question with the one person who has made it impossible for our family to keep this debate theoretical our son Thomas, now 26, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome and fought for his life from his first moments. Thomas was born on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, rushed to the ICU, and spent his earliest weeks in congestive heart failure before a pediatric heart surgeon repaired his heart. I share what that season looked like in real life, and why those details matter when we talk about prenatal diagnosis, disability, and the choices parents feel pressured to make. Then we shift to what Thomas has taught us over decades: how caregiving forms a servant's heart, how joy can be louder than fear, and why his simple, wholehearted worship often moves a room full of guarded adults to actually sing. From there, I lay out the moral framework I believe we can't avoid: is the unborn a human being or a potential human being? We talk personhood, the image of God, and why I don't believe value changes with size, location, age, health, or circumstances of conception. If you care about the abortion debate, Down syndrome advocacy, Christian ethics, or the dignity of human life, this conversation will challenge you and it may change how you speak about it. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs a clearer lens, and leave a review with the question you're still wrestling with.Support the showhttps://www.jacksonfamilyministry.comhttps://bobslone.com/home/podcast-production/

In this conversation we talk about what keeps a musician grounded, purposeful, and genuinely present no matter what stage they are standing on. We cover the comparison that shows up at every level, a 30-second habit before every service that changes the culture of your team, why the supportive role is not a lesser role, and what Daniel would tell his younger self about guarding his heart when the doors start opening. Join Alex and Dr. Ethan Harrod as they navigate the spirit world in Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece Spirited Away (2001)! The English language dubbed version features the voice acting of Daveigh Chase (RIP :'( ), Suzanne Pleshette, Jason Marsden, and Susan Egan. Chihiro is a little girl whose family is moving, when they happen upon a strangely deserted resort town. Her parents turn into pigs after eating some food, they are subsumed within a spirit world, and Chihiro, now named Sen, must navigate working for an evil witch named Yubaba so she can find her parents, turn them back into people and get out of the spirit world. Along the way, she meets No Face, a spirit that learns the value of family and empathy from Chihiro. Several topics are discussed in this episode, but cultural psychology — and the differences between this Japanese film and American films — is the overarching theme and concepts. It's definitely a beautiful film, so it deserves a watch — and parents, listen to your kids! Why We Should Sing At Mass No Matter How We Feel | Fr. Mathias Thelen

In this homily given on the 11th Sunday of Ordinary Time (June 14 , 2026), Father Mathias preaches on Psalm 100 and why we are to sing a joyful song of praise to the Lord at Mass. After outlining why singing at Mass is one way we actively participate in divine worship of God at Mass, Fr Mathias outlines several common reasons why we might resist singing to the Lord at Mass: we mistakenly believe singing is optional, we might not know or like the music, the music might not be good, we're not certain about who God is, we simply don't feel like it.   But the Mass is not about us; it's the worship of God, giving him what's his due.  Therefore, we need to resist the temptation to not sing to God because we don't feel like or we don't want to. Since God is Good, no matter how we feel, Father challenges us to sing his praises at Mass precisely when we don't feel like it.  Doing so opens our hearts to the God who loves us and wants to bless us in whatever we're going through in our lives.

Hey friend,  Do you have flare-ups that seem to come out of nowhere, and you cannot trace them to anything you ate or did? Has your doctor said "everything looks fine" while your body is clearly not fine? Have you wondered if the hard week you just had has anything to do with the way your body feels right now? I'm Ashley — a mom living with chronic illness in a neurodivergent family. If you're dealing with constant fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, and broken sleep while trying to keep up with your kids, you're not alone. Chronic Illness Moms is a podcast for moms with chronic illness or chronic symptoms who want stress relief, better sleep, and simple, realistic habits that actually work inside a full, demanding life. In this episode, I'm walking through the connection most of us were never taught — the real biological link between unprocessed emotional stress and physical inflammation. I'm explaining how your immune system responds to emotional stress the same way it responds to physical threats, and giving you one small subtractive win: pulling ONE emotional input out of your life for seven days and noticing what your body does.   Resources and Links Mentioned Join the free Chronic Health Moms Facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chronichealthmoms 1:1 chronic health coaching: https://ashleybraden.com/coaching   Related Episodes: 219.
