EASY LISTENING DEP'T.: There we have one of the basic problems with writing about the Trump administration and what its officials said, in that pretty much every part of that paraphrase is false. The review was not in response to Donald Trump's executive order against diversity, equity and inclusion. It was quite obviously in response to the government shutdown. Likewise, the specific transportation department rule that Duffy was citing was hastily issued to create a pretextual mechanism for taking away the funds. Duffy announced that the funding had been put under review, and that that review was unfortunately on hold because the lawyers who would do it were unavailable under the shutdown, in a single integrated action. The story also does not mention that the particular contracting requirements the Duffy claims may violate the rule that he just issued are congressionally mandated and longstanding contracting rules. This moment is more than political—it's spiritual. And how we respond will define a generation. The Church must not cower in fear, rage in retaliation, or retreat into silence. Like Paul in 1 Thessalonians 2, we're called to courage in the face of opposition—fueled by the fear of God, not man. Courageous Christians speak truth no matter the cost, love each other like family, and protect the mission at all costs. Evil will rage—but it cannot win. Our task is clear: live bold, holy lives; preach Jesus with conviction; protect one another in love; and hold fast to the hope that God will avenge, redeem, and restore.

You might say, All I ever do is clean up after people.  As a janitor, I'm sweeping floors day in and day out.  I clean them, and other people get them dirty.  I clean the bathrooms, and they get dirty again.  I just want a job that matters.  I'm gonna quit my job and go into full-time ministry.  STOP.  You are not just a janitor.  You have a unique set of gifts, talents, and abilities that God has given you to see dirt and know how to clean.  You see a mess and know how to bring order.  You know how to fix things.  You know how to clean things.  You know how to make things safe.  All of that stuff is very important.  You are gifted, and you are called.  Just imagine a world where everyone who is a janitor quits their job to go into full-time ministry.  That's not a world I want to live in.
