This is My Truth is a platform for honest, open conversations. The stories shared are not often spoken about or discussed, but once told, have the ability to shine a light on another perspective, or a much needed conversation. These stories may make us laugh, some may make us cry, but together, we will learn from one another and begin to heal. Because walls need to be torn down, masks need to come off, stories need to be heard in order for our truths to be told. This is my Truth. Will you tell me yours?

It's a question I've been asking myself a lot recently because my husband recently looked at me and said, you never ask me if I'm happy. It made me realize how easy it is to dive back into the day to day and avoid asking myself the hard questions. Today I dive into all things motherhood, negative self talk & perfectionism with my friend Jessica Gershman. There are so many things I love about this conversation with the biggest being how REAL Jessica is about the ups and downs of life. We dig into marriage, raising daughters, and how perfectionism and negative self talk show up in both of our lives. Grab a glass of tea or wine, plug in your air pods or go for a walk. This conversation is a good one. More about Jessica in her own words: Jessica Gershman is the founder of The Zen Mommy and the voice behind the Mom, Slow Down! podcast as well as a passionate believer in the power of self care. Through her work as a certified yoga instructor, an accomplished home chef, and a dedicated mindfulness practitioner she has created a holistic program that supports women, especially moms, in giving them the tools to create a satisfying life. Jessica has experienced juggling the demands of a career, as a successful commercial real estate developer, with the life-changing role of “mom.” Through the work of The Zen Mommy, she shares her personal story of overcoming disordered eating, redefining her sense of self as a new mother, and finding ways to feed herself first as a foundation for a more joyful and less stressful life. I left my family for five days and went to a women's leadership retreat in Tulum. In this episode, I reflect on the reactions people had when I told them what I was doing. The reactions were reminiscent to those I received when telling people I was leaving corporate: disbelief, shock, jealousy. Creating space for myself and actually taking action toward the life I want didn't happen magically. I worked diligently and engaged in courageous and uncomfortable conversations. My challenge for you is to put pen to paper for two to three minutes and write, "What is it that I truly desire?" As a person ten years in recovery who survived multiple suicide attempts and an overdose, Jay fights to end the stigma around Mental Health and Substance Misuse by telling his recovery story and advocating for opportunities for others to do the same. Jay entreats that we must cease giving in to that stigma; instead, we can accept that they make us uncomfortable and push past that barrier toward life-saving change. Jay is an open book which made it so genuinely powerful to connect with him in this conversation. In a country where as many as one in two will struggle with an issue of Mental Health or Substance Misuse at some point in their life, the average American is still underserved by an outdated model of care. Too many communities don't have a Mental Health provider at all and, if they do, a lack of insurance coverage and the vast wall of stigma around these issues makes help unaffordable and unattainable for most. Mental Health coaches like Jay Shifman help close that gap, and to do so Jay works with those ready to choose the next step in their Mental Health journey. "I feel like I'm wilting." Hearing a women say this recently made me pause in my tracks. What a powerful word - wilting. I could see the visual - each time I didn't speak up - either at work or at home - a petal would fall off the flower. So in today's episode I dive into steps I've taken to go from wilting to thriving. Also, enjoy the cameo from Quinn at the end. :) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessi-shuraleff/message

Today I dive into some recent moments where I've seen my daughters' use their voice to advocate for themselves & it got me thinking about all the moments in the past where I haven't advocated for myself. For those who may be unfamiliar with the term, imposter syndrome refers to the feelings of self-doubt and personal incompetence that persist despite your education, experience, and accomplishments - and the steps I've taken to overcome imposter syndrome day in and day out to be the best role model I can be for my kiddos (though, let's be honest, they often prove to be role models for me!) There's also a cameo of Lucy singing at the end - you don't want to miss it! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessi-shuraleff/message

From living a double life and struggling in silence to thriving, my dear friend Ashlee shares her truth about how her high risk pregnancy eventually opened many doors for her. By sharing her journey with others, it lessened the weight of carrying it alone for so long. Once her son was born, everything changed. She was able to see herself through a different lens and chose to step into the woman and life she knew her son deserved. A little bit more about Ashlee: She is an entrepreneur – Founder and Chief Engagement Officer of Our Forté, a company dedicated to helping non-profit and charitable organizations grow support, awareness and, ultimately, raise funds for those in need. She works with her clients to build a culture of support, and powerful connections between their donors and volunteers to achieve their fundraising and social justice goals. In doing this work, she recognized that these same lessons are desperately needed in the wider business community...especially as we grow more disconnected working in an online realm. With that in mind, she launched “Teams with EDGE,” a program designed to bring the lessons of team encouragement and gratitude embraced by the most powerful charities to the business world. She's on a mission to teach leaders that work doesn't have to be so hard, providing them with the insights and skills to help create thriving, sustainable cultures which inspires their team, and helps them – and their businesses – succeed. Today, to acknowledge Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month (and the 7 year anniversary of my own pregnancy loss of Clark) I go deeper into some of the moments that stick out to me most when I think about my own pregnancy loss. I get emotional in this one team, so bear with me, but I dive into some of the stigma (only tell people you're pregnant after the 1st trimester!) that causes women to feel alone & isolated during a time when they need community the most.
