Student Success Podcast By The Continuous Learning Institute
What we've learned from research on Guided Pathways and student success since Redesigning America's Community Colleges.
Dana and Dennis didn't have a bunch of preset topics for the day, but we did talk about... Our first email from a listener! We will talk about Guided Pathways and equity in future shows (hopefully with some colleagues who are leading the way on both of these fronts). Dennis mentioned the book Redesigning America's Community Colleges during this segment. Dennis went over some of the topics from the CCCSFAAA executive board meeting earlier this week. The deadline to submit your Intent to Create form for the Financial Aid Multi-Media Showcase (FAMMS) has been extended to FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30th! Dennis's "I Dare You to Read" selection is A Mind at Home With Itself by Byron Katie. He hasn't read it yet, but comedian Pete Holmes interviewed Ms. Katie on his You Made It Weird podcast. Interesting - and very useful - insight into how just four questions can make your life better. Find out more about CCCSFAAA at cccsfaaa.org. Follow CCCSFAAA on Twitter at @CCCSFinaidAssoc. Find this and future WBC podcast episodes at What's Brewing, CCCSFAAA (WBC) podcasts. Find us also in Google Podcasts, the Apple Podcasts app, and on Spotify. Have feedback for Dennis and Dana? Got a topic you want us to discuss? Email us at wbcccsfaaa@gmail.com. "What's Brewing, CCCSFAAA?" is a Studio 1051 production. I had the chance this week to talk with Denise King, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Cleveland State Community College. She talks about the need these days to supplement the perspective of an educator with analytical and data tools that help explain the environment we’re working in, and come up with solutions to the challenges we’re dealing with. This was our first attempt at a remote interview, where we weren't both sitting in the same room, and I appreciate Denise's great attitude as we tried something new with technology! Glenda Barron stopped by last week and we had the best conversation about her background growing up in deep east Texas-not northeast Texas, she said. It's "deep east" Texas-in the little town of Joaquin. She talked about her educational journey, her time working for the Texas legislature and the Higher Education Coordinating Board, and her current role as President of Temple College.
