In an era where sustainable transport solutions are more critical than ever, rail travel is emerging as a preferred choice for many. In our latest podcast episode, Anthony Smith, chair of the Independent Rail Retailers, discusses the pivotal role these retailers play in encouraging more people to choose rail.Anthony highlights the importance of customer-focused retailing, which is essential for meeting the evolving needs of passengers. With a strong emphasis on innovation in ticketing, independent rail retailers are at the forefront of developing solutions that make rail travel more accessible and appealing. From split ticketing to digital ticketing solutions, these innovations are helping to drive growth in the rail market.A significant portion of online ticket sales, approximately 90%, is processed through independent rail retailers. This demonstrates their influence and the trust passengers place in them for value and service quality. As Anthony notes, competition among retailers fosters better outcomes for consumers, driving them to innovate and enhance customer experiences.Looking ahead, the introduction of Great British Railways presents both challenges and opportunities for independent retailers. Anthony emphasises the need for a level playing field to ensure fair competition between public and private entities. As the rail landscape evolves, the collaboration between these retailers and the government will be crucial in shaping a modern, efficient rail network.Fare simplification is another key topic discussed in the episode. While the idea of simplifying fares sounds appealing, Anthony warns that it may lead to increased costs. The focus should be on presenting clear options to customers, ensuring they understand the choices available to them without losing sight of affordability. As we navigate the complexities of the rail industry, it's clear that independent rail retailers are not just selling tickets; they are champions for passengers, striving to enhance the overall rail experience. With a commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, the future of rail travel looks promising. To learn more about how these retailers are making a difference and what the future holds for rail travel in the UK, make sure you listen to the latest episode of the RTM podcast. Author and satirist Andrew Doyle joins The Winston Marshall Show to unpack the death throes of the woke movement—and why the culture war is entering a dangerous new phase. Doyle makes the case that wokeness, as we've known it over the past 15 years, is collapsing—from the fall of DEI in major corporations to legal blows against gender ideology and the quiet retreat of activists once loud and proud. But he warns that authoritarianism never truly dies—it mutates. The two dive into the roots of wokeness in postmodern theory and Marxist identity politics, the alliance between Islamists and progressives, and why institutions like the NHS, civil service, and comedy world became infected with ideology pushed by just 8% of the population. Andrew also defends free speech by arguing that provocative art like Kneecap's performances and Kanye West's controversial song should be protected as essential expressions of artistic freedom. All this—non-crime hate incidents, Islamophobia laws, comedy censorship, deep state subversion, and the long war between liberty and control…-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------To see more exclusive content and interviews consider subscribing to my substack here: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Substack: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/X: https://twitter.com/mrwinmarshallInsta: https://www.instagram.com/winstonmarshallLinktree: https://linktr.ee/winstonmarshall----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapters0:00 Critique of Wokeness and Political Correctness 1:45 The End of Woke: A New Phase5:31 The Decline of Wokeness 8:28 The Cultural Turn and Marxist Influence19:00 The Role of Authoritarianism in Wokeness 34:50 The Impact of Wokeness on Democracy 40:22 The Defence of Liberalism 1:02:22 The Failure of Liberalism and the Rise of Post-Liberalism 1:05:02 Kanye West and Censorship 1:08:14 Kneecap Band and Their Controversial Statements 1:16:20 Artistic Expression and Incitement to Violence 1:22:07 Free Speech and Political Figures1:25:18 Liberalism and Political Figures 1:30:09 Conclusion and Book Promotion Hosted on Acast. In this episode, we'll discuss how many Churches and Christians are encouraging people on their way to hell. How and why is this done? Some Christians do it unwittingly because their seeker-sensitive, purpose-driven church leaders have taught them to win people to a building, not Jesus. Many Churches and leaders do it to tickle ears, keep their seats and services full, and care about man-pleasing, not God-pleasing. Let's look at this end-time spiritual deception together and see what the Bible says about not warning people—the consequences will be eternally tragic!Show Notes:One Minute After You Die - Book by Erwin LutzerHell's Best Kept Secret - Book by Ray ComfortOne Thing You Can't Do in Heaven - Book by Mark CahillBe sure to check out our YouTube channel!Text us for prayer, comments, or ministry questions.Connect with us at: concerningthetimes.com

Presented by Lisa Bishop Do you express genuine appreciation for others? I am examining 5 habits of an extraordinary leader. And today is the fourth habit: show appreciation. Gary Chapman's book The Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace shares a statistic that 65% of North Americans reported they had not received recognition or appreciation at their workplace in the past year. And while 51% of managers believe they do a good job of recognizing employees for work well done, only 17% of employees believe their manager actually does a good job of recognizing them[1]. Clearly, something is off! Data shows 79% of employees will quit their jobs due to a lack of appreciation (Zippia.com), while employees who feel valued are motivated to do their best work[2]. How regularly do you show appreciation in the workplace? It's been said encouragement is oxygen to the soul. Just as every person has inherent value, every human being has a desire (whether they will admit it or not) to feel valued and appreciated; it's one of the deepest and most basic human needs. While it's been proven there is a bottom-line benefit to organizations for fostering a gratitude culture in the workplace, the buck doesn't stop there. As a leader, and especially as a follower of Jesus, you are entrusted with tapping into the potential of the people in your care, helping them unleash their gifts and talents. This is a different mentality than, “Just do your job.” You have a high calling for cultivating a work environment that is built on an attitude of trust and to inspire and not to embrace the old “command and control” mindset. How can you genuinely show appreciation? Don't just show gratitude for what people do, show appreciation for who they are. Be specific, rather than general, saying “Hey, good job on that project,” doesn't point out what you specifically valued. Instead, it might sound something like this. “Hey Jim, I just wanted to say I really appreciated your attention to detail on the presentation last week. You do your work with excellence, and you bring a lot of heart and passion to the team.” When showing appreciation, go beyond pointing out a person's performance to acknowledging their intrinsic value too. Dr. Paul White says, “Even the hardest heart will soften and respond to a freely given ‘cup of water' of appreciation—reviving their spirit and creating new growth.” How will you make showing genuine appreciation a leadership habit in your life? Who is someone in your workplace you will encourage this week? -- [1] Chapman, G. D., White, P. E., & White, P. (2012). 1 John 1:4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. I think the encouragement from this verse comes from something John learned from Jesus. He heard Jesus say this very same comment after Jesus gave the disciples the new commandment to love one another as He loved them (John 13:34) and that they would know when they received the Holy Spirit that Jesus was in the Father, they were in Jesus, and that Jesus was in them (John 14:20). Jesus told them that without Him, they could not bear fruit for the glory of God (John 15:5). Then Jesus told them why He had said these things. “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full” (John 15:11). In this verse we understand the excitement and joy that comes with living to love with Jesus. In this first letter of John's, he essentially encouraged his readers (and us) to obey Jesus' commands to believe in Him and love one another in the power of the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus dwelling within them. That quality of life can only happen in them if they believe in and abide in Jesus. John wanted them to know that their living to love with Jesus filled the disciples with Jesus' joy. In his third letter he put it this way. “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth” (3 John 4). So the encouragement today should travel with us as we journey through these epistles of John. All of what he wrote was to encourage them to live to love with Jesus. He fully expected God, with whom they were in fellowship, to love through them. Nothing could complete his joy more than to hear that his brother and sisters after reading his letter, walked in love. This is why I am doing this podcast! I'm encouraging all who hear to live to love with Jesus for His glory. And if you do rise to God's call to love in all that you do, nothing could make me more joyful when I come to stand before Jesus to give an account of my life. I invite you to fellowship with me by committing yourself to walk in love with Jesus, and indeed, our fellowship is with the Father and the Son, who dwells in us. We will not be disappointed on That Great Day, when Jesus comes to be glorified in the saints and marveled at by all who believe. We will be filled with joy if we are making disciples who live to love with Jesus.

And that is the topic that touches on the Employee Value Proposition (EVP). The world has changed immensely post pandemic and since remote work has been how the majority of businesses do their business now, the emotional aspect has been set aside. For example, leaders are not able to see if their employee is having a bad day at the moment, they just see the result - the inferior work they did.  Gert's guest for Episode 122 is Kevin D. Monroe, who as a mentor explored how showing gratitude can have an immense impact in the workplace. In this ever changing world, gratitude is needed now, more than ever. One hundred years of research tells us that a bump in salary does not impact employee engagement. In fact, MIT recently published findings showing that how appreciated employees feel has three times more influence on their decision to stay or leave a job than compensation. Not only does this reduce the cost of turnover, but companies that pay attention to their human capital outperform others. Dr. Paul White joins Kevin to discuss the 5 Languages of Appreciation in the workplace. These include Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Tangible Gifts, and Physical Touch. The implementation of appreciation isn't a top-down process. It starts with education, creating a shared language among team members, and then grows naturally. It's about connecting people and recognizing them for who they are, not just their work.
