Sermons from Grace Church, Walworth, WI
Last week we began exploring our values as a Church. We started with the Gospel and Pastor Jim showed us that the truth of the gospel transforms every area of our life. One of those areas, is our life together as a church. The gospel shapes how we see ourselves as we gather and how we should treat one another and care for one another. It's not that we are trying to make ourselves something as a church but live up to what God has made us. And in the process we have the opportunity to display the manifold wisdom of God.
Teams are made up of different people with different talents. Not everyone can play the same position or the team will not be strong. The team is actually only as strong as the weakest player. A church is designed this same way. We can't all be the preacher or the piano player. Find your position, and serve will all your might.

The Apostle Paul reveals that the church is the primary vehicle by which God’s master plan of the reconciliation is fulfilled. As God works in this world to redeem and unite all things back to himself, Jesus gives gifts to his followers to equip and empower the church to fulfill it’s mission in the world. Jesus gives us gifts, he gives gifts to be given away and calls all of his followers into full time ministry.

In the concluding sermon on relationships, Dr. Sams masterfully boils down two basic approaches to relationships. Scripture has a great deal to say about each one, and, broken as we are, back and forth we go between the two. In fact, we all have experienced relationships where each approach has affected us. What is this moment-to-moment choice we all make in relationships, and how would Christ have us live in the midst of that choice? Have a listen to find out.

Why combine the two terms, pastor and teacher into one category? What is the primary roll of the pastor and how is it to be accomplished? The Bible details high standards for those who would be elders or overseers in the church, who can meet these standards and how? Are pastors and/or elders to be obeyed by those they care for and if obedience is a requirement, are there exceptions to the rule and are there conditions that must be met by those in leadership rolls?

Is there a correct model of church government? What are examples of what the Bible refers to as “disputable matters”? What is meant by “Christian liberty” and what problems arise when it is denied or abused?

The diversity of the gifts of the Spirit is proof that God desires unity, not uniformity. How does that look in a marriage, a family, or a congregation? What about cessationism? Are the gifts still operating in the church today?
