I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.Nolite putare quoniam veni solvere legem, aut prophetas : non veni solvere, sed adimplere. 18 For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.Amen quippe dico vobis, donec transeat caelum et terra, jota unum aut unus apex non praeteribit a lege, donec omnia fiant. 19 He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis, et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.[17] "To fulfill": By accomplishing all the figures and prophecies; and perfecting all that was imperfect.[18] "Amen": That is, assuredly of a truth. This Hebrew word, amen, is here retained by the example and authority of all the four Evangelists. It is used by our Lord as a strong asseveration, and affirmation of the truth.

The Danger of Waiting Too LongScripture: 2 Corinthians 6:2—For He says, "In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you. James passed away on May 17, 2026 and this is one of my last conversations with him. I've never known anyone as passionate about the gospel and in love with people as James and I will miss him dearly.
John 4:1-42 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband'; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” 27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him. 31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.' 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” 39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
Sin Is Not HarmlessScripture: Romans 6:23 — “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”Let me say this clearly to you: Sin doesn't just affect what you do—it affects where you're going. And here's what makes it dangerous: Sin doesn't always feel destructive in the moment. Sometimes it feels normal. Sometimes it feels good. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe…” Mark 16:15–17Today we honor the Gospel writer, Saint Mark. Mark, also called John Mark, was likely from modern-day Libya in North Africa but grew up in Jerusalem with his mother, Mary. Her home was a significant meeting place for early Christians, possibly hosting the Last Supper and Peter's visit after his release from prison (Acts 12:12). Many scholars believe Mark was the young man who fled naked during Jesus' arrest (Mark 14:51–52).Mark accompanied Barnabas (his cousin or uncle) and Paul on an early missionary journey but left them before its completion, which led to a sharp disagreement with Paul. Barnabas took Mark to Cyprus, while Paul continued elsewhere. Despite this conflict, Mark and Paul reconciled, and Paul later referred to Mark as a co-worker and a helpful companion during his imprisonment (Colossians 4:10–11; 2 Timothy 4:11).Mark also developed a close relationship with Peter, who affectionately called him “Mark, my son” (1 Peter 5:13). Tradition holds that Mark wrote his Gospel in Rome at Peter's request, preserving Peter's preaching for the Church. Mark's Gospel, likely written for Gentile converts in Rome, became—and remains—a vital record of Jesus' life and ministry.Later traditions hold that Mark became the first bishop of Alexandria in Egypt, where he preached the Gospel. While these signs were often manifested in miraculous ways in the early Church, they carry a deeper spiritual significance for us today.Like Saint Mark, each of us is called to be an evangelist, bringing the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Though we might not be given the grace to perform miracles, Jesus' promises remain true when we act in His name. Demons are cast out not only through exorcism, but also when we bring the Light of Christ to the darkness of sin and evil. We “speak new languages” when the Holy Spirit uses us to communicate God's Word in ways that touch hearts anew. The “serpents” we handle and the “deadly drink” we overcome symbolize the temptations and evils God's grace protects us from when we remain faithful to Him.As we honor Saint Mark the Evangelist, reflect today on how his Gospel calls you to heed Jesus' commission. Symbolically speaking, have you learned to speak the new language of the Holy Spirit, combat the powers of evil, and radiate God's love and mercy to others? This mission takes firm resolve and courage. Do not fear when “serpents” or “deadly drink” appear along the way. Trust that God's grace will protect and guide you. When you are fully united to Christ, everything you do and say flows naturally in His name, making the Gospel known to the ends of the earth. Saint Mark the Evangelist, though you were young when you met our Lord, you grew deeply in faith and faithfully heeded His commission to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Through your fidelity to Christ, countless souls came to believe through your preaching and continue to encounter Him through your inspired writing. Please pray for me, that I may have the courage to speak and act in Jesus' name, becoming an instrument of His saving Word. Daily Dose of Hope April 1, 2026 Scripture: Ephesians 4 Prayer: Almighty Father, Thank you for loving us despite our many faults. Thank you for showing us a different way of doing life. Help us seek holiness in all we do. Help us become the people you desire us to be. As we work through today's Scripture and devotional, I pray that you speak to our hearts. Help us see things differently. We want to hear from you. In Your Name, Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope daily Scripture reading plan. We have been journeying through Paul's letters and we are currently in our seventh letter, the book of Ephesians. Today's reading is Ephesians 4. Paul has been discussing the new life we have in Christ and the new faith community that is created, what we call the church. The church, as the body of Christ, is an entirely new kind of community-a family of people who belong to Jesus and to one another AND love one another with the extravagant love of Christ. But this unique community has standards. Look at verses 2-4. This body of believers should be humble, gentle, patient, and bear one another in love. There should be unity among them as a demonstration of to whom they belong. While there is unity, there is diversity in gifts and strengths. Jesus has made sure that his church has everything it needs to become mature and effective. Thus, some people are given the gifts and graces to become apostles, others prophets, still others evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Jesus obviously excelled in all these categories, but we don't. Thus, we need one another desperately to build up and strengthen the body of Christ. Historically, the church has focused more on pastors and teachers than the apostles, prophets, and evangelists. If we look at the state of the Western church, you can see how badly this has hurt us. We are incomplete, we are missing some of these critical roles, and without them we are ineffective. We need everyone to build up the church. Here is a quick summary of these roles: · Apostles are the entrepreneurs of the church, starting new mission and ministries, leading the church into new territory. Without apostles, we get stuck in the same place, not responding to the changing needs of our world. · Prophets often stand on the fringes of the church, as God's messengers, speaking hard words into the family of faith. We have pushed the prophets aside because we tend to not like hard words. · Evangelists are the salespeople of the faith. They are particularly gifted at sharing the Good News of Jesus with people who don't get know him. We are ALL called to be evangelistic but certain people are truly gifted in leading new people to Christ. We need them. · Pastors are shepherds of the flock. They nurture and protect the congregation. They are essentially the caregivers of the flock, ensuring and guarding the spiritual health of the people. · Teachers are the communicators of the faith. They help the people remain Biblically grounded, teach the next generation about Jesus, and ensure that the church is faithful to God's Word, growing in their knowledge of Scripture and doctrine. Think about your unique gifts. Are you an apostle, a prophet, an evangelist, a pastor, or a teacher? How can you use your gifts to build up Jesus' church? Have a wonderful day.
