I would simply remind you that God remains faithful to His covenants. The rainbow belongs to God, and it will serve as the sign that He established in Genesis 9, come what may. Of greater importance is the need for God's people to remember God's covenant of forbearance.Support the showThanks for listening! Follow us on Facebook or Instagram more info colonialkc.org
Education and status are pursued by people every day. But these things are meaningless when it comes to revelation—what the Holy Spirit reveals to believers about God. The world seeks its own kind of wisdom, but it's only through the Spirit that we can truly be wise—for salvation, to grow in our Christian lives, or to walk in spiritual victory. Christianity is hopeless without the Holy Spirit!

Asking God for the Impossible | Pastor Jim Boyd | Refuge City ChurchSupport the show
In this first message of the Be Wise series, Pastor Jim explores why wisdom is not only helpful but commanded by God. Drawing from Proverbs 3 and 9, Jim teaches that wisdom begins with fearing the Lord and trusting in Him rather than leaning on our own understanding. He illustrates how wisdom is more than just intelligence or kindness—it is truth applied to the complexities of real life. Jim challenges listeners to consider what shapes their identity and how that identity leads to either foolishness or a life marked by peace, humility, and eternal perspective. As he unpacks the fruit of wisdom, he points to Jesus as the ultimate source and model, the one we must cling to if we want to walk wisely in this world. The invitation is clear: root your life in the gospel and drink deeply from the spring of Christ, the one thing that makes the rest of life possible.

In this sermon, Pastor Jim examines Peter's three denials of Jesus as recorded in Mark 14:66-72, contrasting Peter's earlier bold declarations of loyalty with his fearful denials when confronted. The pastor explores how sinful fear led Peter to keep a distance from Jesus, deceive others, and deny his faith rather than declare it boldly. Despite Peter's failures, the message emphasizes that Jesus had predicted this would happen and that Peter's restoration was already planned. The sermon concludes by showing Peter's complete restoration through Jesus' forgiveness and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, transforming him from a fearful denier into a bold witness who would later preach courageously and write letters encouraging others facing similar struggles with fear. Please let us know if you are watching our stream for the first time, if you have made a decision, or need prayer – text CONNECT to (941) 260-1395 or click here: https://form.church/connectionClick here if you would like to give online: https://subsplash.com/u/-QJD4RD/giveMusic used with permission, CCLI License # 594759, Streaming Plus License # 21044022

Today, we have a question from a listener about the experience of loss in ministry. It doesn't take long serving in ministry to face disappointment and loss. As a pastor, we are asked to lead through death but also through conflict, division, and transitions. The loss can add up. Pastor Jim shares how he has experienced seasons of loss and how we can sustain our hope and optimism in the midst of sadness.

In this final message of the Come and See series, Pastor Jim invites listeners to respond to Jesus's call not only to come and see, but to come and go. Drawing from Luke 10, Jim explores how Jesus sends His disciples ahead of Him into everyday places to proclaim that the kingdom of God has come near. He challenges listeners to wake up to a greater purpose beyond comfort and consumerism, embracing a life of missional living that reflects the presence of God through everyday friendship, hospitality, healing, and courage. Jim shares that being sent by Jesus is not about having all the answers, but about trusting God to work through us as we proclaim good news, display the fruit of the Spirit, and bring wholeness to a broken world. The invitation to join Jesus on His mission is not an optional extra to the Christian life, but the very purpose of it.
The source is an excerpt from a sermon that provides an in-depth analysis of Genesis Chapter 8, focusing on the conclusion of Noah's flood narrative. The preacher breaks down the text into themes such as the flood as "devastating decreation," God's subsequent "work in recreation," and the resting of the ark on Mount Ararat. A significant portion of the sermon is dedicated to discussing the historical nature of the Genesis account and reviewing historical claims and evidence, including a detailed account of a Russian Imperial Force pilot's alleged sighting of the ark in 1916. Finally, the sermon concludes with the "new promise" God makes to Noah—never again to curse the ground by a flood—and challenges the congregation to respond with a "sacrifice of praise" out of gratitude.Support the showThanks for listening! We know about the gift of sex, but there's another gift, too! As we continue in 1 Corinthians, we find some powerful principles governing God's gift of intimacy between husband and wife. Oh, what a different world we would live in if those who name the name of Christ would trust Him in this area! But we've also forgotten what the Lord said about celibacy. Paul presents it as a higher gift, without denigrating marriage. Here's Pastor Jim to begin the message, Sacred Sex. This week, Pastor Jim walks us through Hebrews 10:26–39, a powerful reminder of the seriousness of turning away after knowing the truth. The author warns that rejecting Christ leaves no other sacrifice for sins - only the judgment we deserve. This passage also calls believers to endure in faith, remembering how we have already suffered for Christ and joyfully endured hardship for His sake. We're urged to hold that same confidence and keep pressing forward.Text: Hebrews 10:26-39

Scriptures That Irritate People In 2025 | Pastor Jim Boyd | Refuge City ChurchSupport the show
Pastor Jim walks through Jesus's teaching in Matthew 16 where the invitation shifts from “Come and see” to “Come and die.” After Peter boldly confesses Jesus as the Messiah, he quickly resists the idea of a suffering Savior. Jim unpacks how we often do the same, embracing belief in Jesus but resisting the cost of following Him. The message explores how the call to discipleship includes denying ourselves, taking up our cross, and daily choosing God's kingdom over our own comfort, safety, and self-worship. Jim challenges listeners to examine the version of Jesus they follow. One who aligns with personal ambition, or the true King who calls us into suffering that leads to life. Through stories, Scripture, and honest reflection, the message re-frames death to self as the path to healing, wholeness, and full life now and forever.

The source is an excerpt from a sermon delivered at a church, focusing on Genesis chapter 7 and the biblical account of Noah and the worldwide flood. The speaker treats the flood narrative as a historically valid event, discussing details like the Ark's size and construction time and connecting the biblical account to various worldwide flood myths. The central theological theme is the concept of costly faith and perseverance demonstrated by Noah's obedience in building the Ark, serving as a herald of righteousness to his wicked generation. Furthermore, the sermon draws a parallel between the days of Noah—specifically when God shut the Ark's door—and the imminent future judgment of God at the return of Jesus, urging listeners to enter the open door of salvation now through faith in Christ.Support the showThanks for listening! This week, Pastor Jim takes us through Hebrews 10:19–25, where we're reminded that Christ's sacrifice has opened the way for us to confidently enter God's presence. Through His blood, we have full access to the Father. With hearts made clean, we're called to draw near in faith, hold firmly to our hope, and encourage one another to love and good works as we gather together in His name.Text: Hebrews 10:19–25
God—the Creator of the universe—knows us each by name. He has a purpose for our lives. He loves us more than anything else in the world! The apostle Paul saw that love firsthand when Jesus called him by name and radically changed his life. Another man, Annanias, was also called by name to do something great for God. The Lord calls us all to something. Let's be available to Him.

While Pastor Jim spends most of his time preaching the Bible and leading a church, he still keeps up with his love of science. In today's episode, we talk about what advancements in science have him excited and how he continues to find the integration of faith and science strong. It was a fun conversation to explore deep into one of Pastor Jim's favorite topics and hopefully inspire future Christian scientists and students. It might be a great episode to pass on to a friend or child with similar interests.
Although we may not feel like it, every Christian body is a temple for the Holy Spirit—God Almighty is living inside born-again believers! The odd thing is, we still try to act with our human desires, and thus we don't please God. Only the life-changing power of the Spirit can make us do things for Christ! Tell your human spirit that it's not in control of your life—God is!
What a curse grumbling is! The Lord has given us more than we could ever need, yet we still find ways to complain. But God is with us, and He has a purpose for our circumstances. We should give Him thanks in the hard times as well as the good—the Bible tells us to be thankful for everything! Let's pray for spirits of thankfulness today. May we never forget God's goodness.
This week, Pastor Jim walks us through Hebrews 10:1–18, where we see the insufficiency of the law's repeated sacrifices compared to Christ's once-for-all offering. The old sacrifices served only as a shadow, never able to fully cleanse the worshiper. But through Jesus' perfect obedience and single sacrifice, we are made holy, forgiven, and assured that our sins are remembered no more.Text: Hebrews 10:1-18

We're continuing our study, taking questions from listeners, and today we have a question about staying healthy for ministry. Pastor Jim and I look at the topic of health, fitness, and pursuing longevity. We discuss how we have both failed and succeeded, and why Christians should think more about the body and recognize how the Christian faith leads to physical responsibility.
The difference between being rich and poor could be as simple as one good deed. A five-dollar bill doesn't mean much here on earth—but if it's used to bless others, it has extreme value in heaven! On the other hand, $50,000 on earth is meaningless if it is used only for selfish reasons. If we have Christ, we are rich! Let's be like Him and bless others today!
Discover why everyone needs a mentor in Part 1 of Pastor Jim's compelling two-part series that will transform how you approach growth and learning. Pastor Jim encouragingly unpacks 13 powerful mentor mandates—from understanding that mentors are shortcuts to success, to recognizing that God stores portions of your destiny in someone else's wisdom. This message challenges the "know-it-all" culture of our online age and calls believers back to authentic community and biblical accountability. Whether you're navigating life transitions, seeking direction, or simply want to grow deeper in your faith, this message offers invaluable insights on learning from mistakes, choosing correction over permission, and embracing the mentors God places in your path—because moving forward with mentors is always better than cleaning up from consequences.
