Knowledge of the truth is not the same as being changed by it. In this message from 2 Peter 2:21–22, Pastor Jim Osman brings chapter 2 to its sobering close with a warning that cuts close to home — the false teacher and the apostate aren't condemned for what they never knew, but for what they knew and walked away from.Drawing on two of the most vivid images in the New Testament — a dog returning to its vomit and a sow returning to the mire — Pastor Jim traces Peter's animal theme through the entire chapter and shows how each illustration makes the same point: temporary improvement is not the same as a changed nature. A pig cleaned up for the prom is still a pig. An unbeliever who outwardly reforms, speaks the right language, and runs in the right circles can do so convincingly for years. But without a genuine heart change, they will eventually go right back to what they love most. The sermon closes with two sharp summary points: false teachers are a present danger to the church, and they are a cautionary tale for every person sitting in one. Pastor Jim's direct challenge to his congregation — especially young people who grew up in solid churches — is straightforward: why are you here? Has your nature actually been changed, or are you simply assuming the gospel? ★ Support this podcast ★

God sometimes uses the unlikeliest people and situations to accomplish His purposes. This week, Pastor Jim continues our journey through Judges with a look at the rise of Samson, a judge chosen by God before birth. He was set apart and given great strength. But from the very beginning of his story, Samson proved himself to be unspiritual, disrespectful, and impetuous. He chased pretty foreign women instead of deliverance for his people. And God used Samson's character flaws to spark a one-man war that would devastate the Philistine people. Pastor Jim leaves us with encouragement to obey God willingly, not in spite of ourselves, bringing the sweet honey of God's truth with us everywhere we go.This week, our hosts continue their discussion on the book of Judges, some of the talking points were, the jerks that God uses to fulfill His perfect plan, the lion and the bees, and ways we can grow spiritually. Oh and tune into the beginning to hear our hosts talk about something that a lot of us have been wondering, is TBC still planning on going on their trip to Israel? The wedding feast of Samson painted by Rembrandt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wedding_Feast_of_Samson#/media/File:Rembrandt_Harmensz._van_Rijn_146.jpgIf you would like to watch the video podcast, find us on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMhDfGn0zfzi6XjcKkSVcFAFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/discovertbcInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/topekabiblechurchWebsite: https://www.discovertbc.com/
In this sermon, Pastor Jim Schultz teaches from Luke 18:18–30, the story of the rich young ruler, to explore what it really means to follow Jesus. When the man asks how to inherit eternal life, Jesus exposes the one thing he is unwilling to surrender—his wealth. The story reveals a powerful truth: the things we hold most tightly can become barriers that keep us from fully following Christ.Using a memorable illustration about carrying a heavy anchor in the water, Pastor Jim explains how our possessions, priorities, and comforts can weigh us down spiritually. Jesus calls His followers to let go of whatever competes with Him and trust in God's grace. This message reminds us that salvation is impossible through human effort but possible through God alone, and that every sacrifice made for the kingdom of God is ultimately worth it.

Finding freedom from fear. Is fear holding you back? In "No Fear Here," Pastor Jim unpacks the biblical keys to finding real freedom from fear. Starting at the very root, how sin and separation from God first opened the door to fear in Genesis, this message walks through the difference between destructive fear and the reverence for God that actually brings life, health, and wisdom. Anchored in 2 Timothy 1:7, Pastor Jim reveals how God's love is the ultimate fear-eraser, how understanding your position in Christ transforms your mind, and why speaking the Word of God is one of the most powerful weapons against fear you have. If fear, worry, anxiety, or torment has been stealing your peace, this message will show you exactly what the Bible says about walking in the sound, self-controlled mind that God always intended for you.

This week, Pastor Jim walks us through 1 Samuel 8, where the people of Israel ask for a king so they can be like the nations around them. Even though this request grieved Samuel, God allowed it and warned the people about the cost of putting their trust in human leadership. The chapter reveals how easy it is for God's people to trade His leadership for something that feels more familiar or visible. It challenges us to examine our own hearts and remember that Christ alone is the King we truly need.Scripture: 1 Samuel 8Recorded: March 8, 2026

2/22/26 - The Book of Acts Pt 32: Learning to Live with God - Pastor Jim Baker by Zion Christian Fellowship
In this message from Ephesians 4:7–16, Pastor Jim explains how Jesus, the victorious and ascended King, gives gifts to his people so that the church can grow into maturity. After defeating the powers of sin and death through his life, death, and resurrection, Jim shows how Christ now distributes grace to the church through leaders who proclaim and clarify the gospel, equipping believers for works of service. The goal is not spectatorship but participation as every follower of Jesus grows beyond spiritual infancy and begins to serve as part of the body of Christ. Jim challenges listeners to move beyond gathering information about faith and instead allow the gospel to shape identity, produce transformation, and lead to active ministry in everyday life. As the church builds one another up in truth and love, believers grow toward unity, deeper knowledge of Jesus, and the fullness of maturity that reflects Christ to the world.

Pastor West explores the foundational story of Abram in Genesis 15 to distinguish between believing in God's existence and truly trusting His character. He describes a "predictable letdown" that often follows spiritual highs, noting that even great biblical figures experienced vulnerability and despair. By looking to the stars, Abram moved his focus from his own limitations to God's infinite power and sovereignty. This shift illustrates the core theological principle that righteousness is credited through faith rather than earned through human effort or perfect behavior. He concludes that the imputed righteousness of Christ is a gift received by those who believe God's promises despite their circumstances. Through this lens, believers are encouraged to find sufficiency in their relationship with the Creator when all other worldly securities fail.Support the showThanks for listening! This week, Pastor Jim walks us through 1 Samuel 4–7, where we see both the consequences of misplaced trust and the faithfulness of God to restore His people. Israel treated the ark like a good luck charm and suffered defeat, but even in their failure, God proved that His power is not limited or controlled by anyone. As the ark is returned and the people turn from their idols, we see a powerful moment of repentance and renewal under Samuel's leadership.Scripture: 1 Samuel 4-7Recorded: March 1, 2026

In this message from Ephesians 4:1–6, Pastor Jim calls the church to walk in a manner worthy of the calling we have received. After three chapters of celebrating our new identity in Christ as one family, Jim shows that unity is not something we manufacture but something the Spirit has already created and we are called to preserve. With humility, gentleness, patience, and a commitment to bear with one another in love, we reflect the oneness of one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all. Jim challenges the cultural currents of division, outrage, and self-advancement that shape us throughout the week and invites us to root our identity fully in Christ instead. Because Jesus humbled himself, gave up his seat at the table, and welcomed us into God's household, we are now empowered to extend that same grace to one another. The church becomes a living masterpiece when we eagerly work to preserve our God-given unity, displaying the wisdom of God to a watching world.

In this message from Ephesians 3:14-21, Pastor Jim walks through Paul's breathtaking prayer that drives him to his knees. After unfolding the cosmic scope of God's plan to unite all things in Christ and form one new people, Jim shows that the only way forward is through the Spirit's power at work in our inner being. This passage centers on God's love, our ongoing grasp of that love, and the glorious goal of being filled with the fullness of God. Jim unpacks what it means for Christ to dwell in our hearts, not as a fleeting feeling but as the deep center of our identity, shaping our affections, obedience, and communal life together. The love of Christ is wider, longer, higher, and deeper than we can comprehend, yet we are invited to press on and seize it daily. As we are strengthened by the Spirit and rooted in love, we become a living display of God's glory in the church, a foretaste of the day when all things are united in Jesus.

Pastor West explores Genesis 14, focusing on Abram's rescue of his nephew Lot from a coalition of powerful kings. He describes how Abram, acting as a prototypical hero, led a small group of 318 men to defeat an unstoppable army through faith and divine intervention. His narrative is presented as a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ, the ultimate rescuer who leaves safety to save those captured by wickedness. His sermon also highlights Abram's encounter with the priest-king Melchizedek and his firm refusal to accept rewards from the King of Sodom. Ultimately, he encourages believers to prioritize God's glory over worldly gain and to trust in the Good Shepherd who pursues those who have gone astray.Support the showThanks for listening! This week, Pastor Jim walks us through 1 Samuel 2:11–3:21, contrasting the corruption of Eli's sons with the growing faithfulness of young Samuel. In a time when “the word of the Lord was rare,” God calls Samuel by name, showing that He is still speaking even in spiritually dark seasons. Samuel's response—“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening”—challenges us to posture our hearts in readiness and obedience. The passage reminds us that God is raising up faithful servants and that His Word never fails to accomplish His purposes.Scripture: 1 Samuel 2:11-3:21Recorded: February 15, 2026
