Romans 1:16-17 Part 2 Pastor Phil Ballmaier Calvary Chapel Elk Grove 3-15-23 Tonight Pastor Phil continues in Romans 1:16-17 to zoom in on the Power, Salvation, Believing and Righteousness in Christ in these verses. By our old nature, we are incapable in walking in any of those. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus, He makes us a new creation—and His Spirit enables us to put our whole weight upon Him, and the power to continue in Him... As Pastor Phil described previously, Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. So if he shared the Gospel there, whomever received it would carry God's Word, and the testimonies of Paul and the work they'd seen done out into the four corners of the world. First Baptist Belton exists for the sole purpose of knowing Jesus intimately, serving Jesus passionately, and sharing Jesus globally. Our desire is to know Jesus, have a passion to serve Him, and to share Him with others here and around the world.

Paul was not a man who lacked boldness. He fearlessly strode into places that he knew would not receive him well, where his enemies surrounded him and would relentlessly pursue his life. Yet, all the same, he persisted in preaching the gospel. What gave Paul his great confidence and boldness? Was it a confidence in himself? In his abilities and, if nothing else, his way with words? Let us consider today where that confidence of Paul has come from, and press to make it our own, lest we be said to be ashamed of the gospel.

Luther’s conversion to the true gospel was likely not accomplished in one specific moment. Yet, if there was a moment, it was in studying the passage that lies before us today. It was here, above all else, that Luther came to realize that God’s gift of salvation was truly that, a gift, and that he might leave behind all attempts to earn such favor through his own merits. And it happened as he considered the small phrase “the righteousness of God.” Let us take time to think through this important phrase this morning, and see in it the glory of the gospel of our God.

The Gospel is the still the power of God! The Good news of Jesus is effective at changing lives.

Christian ministry is driven by the conviction that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the one and only hope for restoring sinful people to a holy God.

Paul is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God. As the church, we need to believe that the gospel is the power of God. Only in the gospel is the sinner saved, God's righteousness revealed, and the believer declared righteous. I can stand before God because of Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
