Though Heidi published her book as a yes to herself, she didn't expect how her story of 10 years of dating, 104 dates, and finding love after divorce would resonate with everyone from happily married couples to 20-somethings navigating modern dating. Heidi's message is simple but powerful: sometimes what feels like the worst luck in the world is actually setting you up for the best thing that will ever happen to you. They explore:Why karma is real, and why you have to do more than just sit on your couch and hope for the bestThe idea of "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?" and how it changes everything when life hands us setbacks Why giving to the universe what you want to get back actually works (yes, even for finding a husband)This is a conversation about hope, resilience, and trusting that our negative experiences may be exactly what needs to happen to lead us to our next "yes!" Faith, Hope and Love, the first day of the season of Lent, Ash Wednesday. It's the source of lasting truth. So let's make this time of Lent the wonderful joy-filled gift that it really is, a time of peaceful self-denial and making space for God, fostering positive habits that will last well beyond 40 days, and may God, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to perfection in the secret of our own hearts. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. Brian From reconnects with longtime friend and former youth group student Brad Wetherell, now lead pastor of The Orchard, to talk about calling, mentorship, and stepping into leadership after a respected predecessor. Brad shares how a hunger for God’s Word shapes the DNA of their six-campus church and reflects on the intentional transition that followed years of investment and team-based leadership. The conversation closes with a pastoral word of hope for anyone feeling weary, reminding listeners that in a relentlessly negative world, Christ remains our steady source of faith, hope, and love.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Love doesn't follow the syllabus. This episode Alika and Emille talk about why feelings still show up—even when you intellectually understand them.

Readings for Sunday, February 8, 2026 - Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Year A FIRST READING: Isa 58:7-10 Ps 112:4-5, 6-7, 8-9. "A Light rises in the darkness for the upright." SECOND READING: 1 Cor 2:1-5 GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (John 8:12). Alleluia, alleluia! I am the light of the world, says the Lord. The man who follows me will have the light of life. GOSPEL: Matt 5:13-16 The readings this weekend clearly point us to how we are to live as disciples, to be generous, merciful and just, and to share of oneself, a sharing that hurts and can be a cross to carry. But with God's grace, we can be that disciple. Salt, light, a city. +++++ References: Fr Paul W. Kelly; Kersten, J. (2013). New —St. Joseph Sunday Missal, Canadian Edition. Faith, hope, and love are beautiful words—but for many of us, they don't feel simple or safe. When they've been wielded to control, silence, or shame, these core concepts can carry weight, confusion, and even fear. In the wake of spiritual abuse, what once promised life can feel distorted or out of reach. Today, Dan and Rachael step tenderly and courageously into what it means to reclaim faith, hope, and love after harm. Rather than treating faith as certainty, hope as optimism, or love as obedience, they reframe these virtues as deeply human, relational realities: faith as trust, hope as imagination for a future shaped by goodness, and love as a force grounded in honor, freedom, and delight. Together, they name how spiritual abuse exploits fear and shame to protect power—fracturing our ability to trust ourselves, others, and even God. Healing doesn't begin with forcing a set of dogmatic beliefs, but with safety: learning to listen to our bodies, recover discernment, and engage relationships where difference and nuance are welcomed. This conversation is for anyone longing to rediscover a faith that makes room for personhood, courage, and love that does not demand fear in return. ===== About the Allender Center Podcast: For over a decade, the Allender Center Podcast has offered honest, thoughtful conversations about the deep work of healing and transformation. Hosted by Dr. Dan Allender and Rachael Clinton Chen, MDiv, this weekly podcast explores the complexities of trauma, abuse recovery, story, relationships, and spiritual formation. Through questions submitted by listeners, stories, interviews, and conversations, we engage the deep places of heartache and hope that are rarely addressed so candidly in our culture today. Join the Allender Center Podcast to uncover meaningful perspectives and support for your path to healing and growth. At the Allender Center, we value thoughtful dialogue across a wide range of voices, stories, and lived experiences. In that spirit, our podcast features guests and hosts who may hold differing perspectives. An introduction to the hope of the Christian story.
An introduction to the love of God.
When we think about family, we get a variety of feelings, thoughts, and memories. Some are good, some are painful, all seem to be powerful. What does the Bible have to say about the family who is following Jesus together? How can God use the family as a way to bring hope and love not only to our family members, but also to others in our community?
Exploring Christianity through the topics of faith, hope and love. In this first part, faith in Jesus is contrasted with some of the other ideals that are commonly held up as things to put our trust in.

On Monday, we looked at faith. And on Wednesday we zoomed in for a closer glimpse at hope. Faith is about right now. Hope is about tomorrow. Today, we take a closer look at God's gift to us of love and discover the reason why it's the greatest of all of them.
Faith, hope and love are often described as virtues, a series of behaviors we develop over time with practice. While that's true, it's easy then to miss what Paul has to say about them here in this verse. All three of these are precious gifts. Specifically, their God's gifts to you and me. And while they're connected, each one of them is unique. Last Monday we talked about faith. Today, let's take a closer look at hope.
Perhaps you've been to a wedding in recent weeks or watched one take place in a movie. If so, you may have heard the familiar reading from 1 Corinthians 13:13 in which Paul says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." However, this passage is more than aspirational poetry. These are precious gifts from God. Join us as we take a closer look at all three - beginning with faith.
